just thought Id share something. I finally found out why some days my battery lasted a decent amount of time, and then others it would be dead before I got home from work.
well, I unplug it at 6:30am, and pretty much leave it in my glove box from 8am to noon and 12:30 to 5:15PM.
once it was down to about 25% before noon when I check it at lunch, and a few others its at 15% or so when I am on my way home at about 5:15
if you have screebl (lite at least) and hold your phone with the screen pointing to the floor and hold it like you are lookin at the back (basically a normal landscape usage position but flipped), the screen stays locked on as long as the volume buttons are up, volume buttons down it wont stay locked. so after I check my phone I just wrap it back up in a napkin and slide it in the glovebox, and obviously the way the screen stays locked.
I flashed a new rom the other day and forgot to re-enable the stillness detection in screebl.
I think this is it anyways, would explain why sometimes it goes dead FAST, and why others it lasts a long time.
but androids battery use shows screebl using 87%, but system panel (paid version) shows screebl having absolutely no cpu activity over the last 6 hours and maybe .01% for an hour around 1 today...
Im gonna uninstall screeble for tomorrow and see how it goes. then Ill reinstall it and enabel stillness detection and try again.
Prior to ICS my tf101 would last a good 3-4 days on a fully charged battery with my normal usage during the week. Yesterday I installed ICS went to sleep with just over 50%, it had suffered some heavy usage yesterday, and woke up to a completely flat and switched off tablet this morning. This is very unusual performance for my tab.
When I installed ICS I did a factory reset to clean up my tab so only have a pinch of the apps I had previously installed. One thing I did notice is on the battery tab of system settings the tablet was awake 100% of the time were traditionally it would only have a blue mark were it was in use on the awake line. Battery usage data is unavailable, too, so cant see what is causing tablet not to sleep.
Any suggestions?
I would wait until it settles a bit more, plus wait for a custom rom. It probably has some bug, seeing as it is the first ICS for our device.
I also notice some battery drain last week
on HC and ICS
right now i reverted back to honeycomb
ill update you later
if anything changes to me
MyZine Widget
Got rid of the MyZine widget and my tablet now goes to sleep in standby. I noticed, when browsing the running apps list, that the app kept 'restarting' so it could buggy or at the least was having a problem with my tab.
Prior to ICS my battery drain was crazy, especially if I leave wifi on. Not anymore, it's back to normal consumption like I had before the last HC firmware update.
I had the same problem this morning.
take cpu spy to have a look if the tablet goes into depp sleep.
https://market.android.com/details?...251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5idmFsb3Nlay5jcHVzcHkiXQ..
i had to reboot and then everything was fine...
I've still got problems with my tab. Returned to it after a few hours non-use and it had shutdown itself. Battery Drain still seems an issue too. I'll install that app and see what it reports.
Check WiFi disconnection policy and if GPS is disbled.
Here I am trying to get answers to exactly the op's problem. Everything went smooth installing ics. Even wiped data.
Woke up this morning to a very dead battery. Went to sleep at 83%. Interestingly, the battery graph show nothing after about 80%. No indication on the graph of total discharge...and no app usage. Just straight from 80 to zero.
I can't determine if it's a hung app or what....I've installed almost nothing. And it looks like the tablet drained while it was OFF!

Sorry for the link....I could not get the damn picture posted for the life of me...despite 45 minutes worth of my time.
i also woke up to a dead battery this morning. it was 50%+ when i left it on standby, wifi & gps switched off. i would have expected minimal drain on HC.

Try this
Go to settings /WiFi /click three dots in upper right corner/Advanced/ uncheck keep wifi on during sleep.
go to recently used apps and close all ( swipe to right)
put tab to sleep for a while
Come back and turn on.
go to settings
battery
tap grey battery level graph to expand
check individual bars to see what was on and off.
Looks liks some apps are keepi9ng WiFi and GPS on and draining battery.
It would be really nice in future update to have a setting like below:
Setting
Sleep setting
On screen off close all apps except ( here you get to choose apps to leave open)
I'm glad I am not the only one with battery drain issues. I thought I was doing something wrong.
Several days ago I charged my dock and tablet fully. I then turned off the tablet, closed the lid and didn't use it for a few days, when I went to run it again it was totally dead. I would have expected it to at least hold something of a charge in a completely off state.
Yesterday I left the tablet and dock on but just turned the screen off and again this morning had a drained dock.
Just seems like no matter how I try to settle on a way I still see more of a drain than I would have expected.

I will have to take a look at that setting myself and see what is up with it.
Yes, it would nice to have a sleep setting button for some helpful settings.
Have there been any firmware updates for the dock itself, or is that not possible?
I'm having the same issue dock was at 80% last night get up this morning and it's at 6%. I set wifi to off during sleep to see if that helps any.

Have to close apps that are keeping stuff on. Look at permissions. More and more are adding "prevent "Function X off during sleep."
As soon as I got the update installed I turned GPS off and set WiFi to never sleep, woke up this morning to only 4% battery drain. The tablet went 12 hours and went from 40% to 36%, i also had apps open...
apps open: engadget, camera, browser, gmail, market and settings..
no battery drain yet, updated yesterday and only 5% drain during the night with apps open
Help!
Same problem here. I noticed high battery drain yesterday and didn't think to leave it plugged in.
This morning, it wouldn't turn back on! I've left it plugged in in case the battery drained too far and will try to turn it on later on.
With HC, the power button was buggy (had to press really hard) and seemed that that went away with ICS (well except for now). Don't know if this is related.
Same issues with me. Except my tablet won't wake up when I push the power button. I have to hold and reset it. Here is the kicker: I will get a 20% power drain over 9 hours on top of it. So not only does my tablet not turn on after it being asleep, but I get a power drain as well!
My Settings: Stock ICS off a completely reformatted device, Keep Wi-Fi on only when plugged in, screen timeout is 1 minute and MobileDock Battery Saving mode is on. My battery usage indicator does not work... I have to get the very basic info from my battery widget.
Very disappointed! This was the one thing I wanted fixed the most. I hated using the airplane mode app. It severely affected performance.

Maybe we are all having the random reboot problem.
It makes sense if you think about it.. Mine would randomly go into reboot in sleep and the device would get stuck on the Asus loading screen. So when the device cycle through the loading screen for an entire night, you would find a dead tablet by the morning.
So far, I have encountered 2 random reboots, the only way to bring the device out of the boot screen is to hard reset it by holding down the power button.

balor you most likely got better battery due to custom rom
custom roms tweaked the battery for couple days use.. asus claimed like 9 hours on the tablet.. and like 19 with dock keyboard. custom ics roms inc
Do you guys think it's better to let your tablet sleep or turn the tablet off when you're done with it for the day also if I know I'm not gonna be using the tablet for 2-3 hrs which option would be better?
I usually power mine off if I don't plan on using it for more than an hour or two. It still uses a little bit of power to sleep, and doesn't take very long to turn back on.
I leave mine on all the time.
I never turn mine off. The only time I turn it off is when I need to reboot it for whatever reason. I don't like having to wait for it to start back up, and I don't see how leaving it on could have any adverse effects.

i have had my tablet since april 19th of last year its NEVER been left turned off.Only time its ever powered down is to flash something. I also agree that there really is no harm in leaving it on.I do the same thing to my notebook .
I use mine all day, charge it every night, and never turn it off.
Same with my phone. I've never found a good reason to turn them off.
I never power off, just restart after flashing and never went into any problems
The only time my tablet gets turned off is if the battery dies or if I flash something or it locks up.
From the time I bought it I just put it to sleep, but for about the past two weeks I've been turning it off. Finding it doesn't bother me (start up time) like it used to. The advantage is much longer times between charges. Also the wifi starts right up now when turned on since I used the fix.
Hi,
The screen on my Nexus 4 has started to stay awake. I've noticed my battery drain a lot quicker over the last couple of days and I also noticed that every time I pulled my phone out the screen was lit so I've taken it out and watched it. It just stays awake all the time. If I turn the screen off the minute a message or anything comes in the screen wakes and stays awake so near impossible to keep it off for any length of time.
I do have the developer screen enabled and had stay awake whilst charging option enabled. I disabled that to make sure that this wasn't causing the screen to stay awake thinking it was somehow on the charger when it wasn't however the problem persists even with that option unchecked.
I have the screen timeout in display set to 30 secs.
Anybody else experiencing this or no how to solve?
The phone is stock and unrooted though I plan on rooting later today.

Does it stay awake but go very dim? I have this issue too.
can it be caused by the screen protector blocking the light sensor somehow?
Can you install BBS (BetterBatteryStats) and see what's keeping your phone awake?
Sounds like a FULL_WAKE_LOCK is constantly being imposed on your phone.
Questions
Is it only when you put it for 30s?
What's around your pocket when you put your phone in it?
Do you have any attachments onto your phone? e.g. skin protectors, cases...etc
Does this occur on any screen or just your home screen and the developer options screen?
Though some questions may be obvious, the best method is to be thorough with the situation. Answering these questions will help us better help you.
My phone shut itself down about an hour ago (plenty of battery left as I had to charge it earlier and was at 50% when it did come back on). It took several minutes before it would respond to getting turned back on again. I've got 2 messages since and the screen is now tuning off as it should. I had turned the phone off a few times to see if it rectified yesterday however that didn't work.
The problems wasn't anything to do with me having it in my pocket as the problem still existed when I had it sitting on my desk. I have no screen protectors or case and I never put it in any pocket that has anything else in it as I don't want to ruin too quickly.
So not sure what's going. All seems very odd. Hopefully not a sign that the phone is on the way out but looks ok for now. Will have to watch and see what happens over the next few days.
Thanks to all who took the time to respond. Hopefully I won't need to bother you again on this issue but not convinced just yet
Got a weird problem with my AT&T stock non-rooted S4. About 4 or 5 times since I got it on release day when I charge my phone and I get the notification that it's fully charged the screen won't turn back off. I use a Belkin Conserve socket that is set to shut off after 3 hours and I've woken up after charging to find the phone dead. I've managed to catch this happen once and when the fully charged notification comes on the screen won't go to sleep, it just stays on and flickers a little bit. For all but one of these instances I had blocking mode on so I'm not disturbed by email or text notifications in the middle of the night. It did happen one time when I didn't have blocking mode on. I use a pin lock for my lockscreen and usually have BeyondPod playing overnight (only one hour long podcast while it's still charging) if that makes a difference. Is the function that enables the screen to stay on when you're looking at it malfunctioning? Any help? I've attached two screenshots of battery life when this happens.

So in settings under the Developer Options, there is a setting "Stay awake" if checked screen will never sleep while charging. Now I see that your Belkin shuts off the power but your phones still detects the usb plugged into a power source.
I think things happen in this order: you hookup your phone to charge and shut off your screen, phone charges to 100% and screen lights up saying fully charged, it stays on because of that setting, Belkin kills the power, it is still hooked up to USB so ... you get the rest.
I would find that setting and disable it.
if your next question is "I don't see developers option" it is hidden by default in android 4.2.2 so to make it available, go to Settings > About phone and tap tap tap Build number seven times. Return to the previous screen to find Developer options. Or Indiana Jones might pop up and give you the cup to get eternal life !!!
Thanks for the reply Commodore64 but I already checked that setting when it happened the first time and it's not checked.

I have this problem as well as my wife's S4. around 3am, I notice our room is bright with our two phones' screens on. It will stay on until the morning.
In the developer's section of the settings, the stay on when plugged in is NOT checked.
Also, on our phones, we notice the phones overheating because the screen is on for hours at a time at night.
I've just spent an hour looking through the internet, and while many report this, they are simply being dismissed by others as in having "checked" the setting in developer section.
Also, when the batttery does get fully charged, the "Battery if full, unplug the power" notification also rings the default notification ringtone. I've installed phoneweaver to set my phone to no sound overnight, but it only stops the sound, the screen still stays on and phone gets really hot.
This is turning out to be a huge problem for us.

Do you use a PIN (number) lock? I did but switched to the pattern unlock and it hasn't happened since. Also, I've been trying to charge only during the day or evening, not overnight. Maybe, since I charge during the day and I use it periodically while it charges it doesn't go into a "deep sleep" like it would if it charges while sleeping and the full charge notification would keep it awake. I don't know exactly why but it hasn't happened since. Hope this helps.
