Hi,
I have installed Android 2.3 on my HTC HD2. Right now, I do not have wifi at my home and i am using an ASDL Ethernet connection to my PC.
Earlier while using Windows 6.5, I used ActiveSync for this purpose. ActiveSync allows us to share PC (desktop) internet on phone using USB cable.
Is there any way i can connect to internet on my phone using internet from PC using USB cable (using ANDROID) (as was working for Microsoft ActiveSync)?
Thanks
Rajiv
No easy way...
try http://www.codeproject.com/KB/android/UsbPortForwarding.aspx
I also wanted this feature missing from wm ,But finally opt for wireless router ..
I'm currently using "MccMBoxmaX GS V7.0 Gingerbread 2.3.3[Sense 2.1+3.0]3D Effect" and it has an option called "Internet pass through" when u connect your HD2 to the computer, I believe this is a Sense 3 feature so all builds based on this new sense has it too. I tried to test it first to see if it works, and it works
But first of all you need to download "HTC Sync" Version 3 to install the required drivers for your HD2.
Second of all, make sure your firewall on your PC isn't going to block the new installed application from sending and receiving data from the internet to your HD2.
Finally you enable "data pass through" option on your HD2 after you connect the usb cable of course and that's it!.
hopes this helped you...
Been wanting this feature on Android forever!
But I like my CLK Typhoon builds.

So I'm writing this from my PC using the Internet Sharing option of the X7500.
I'm going to explain how to use it but first off all I beg your pardon because since my ROM is in spanish I have no idea of the names of the programs and the messages that the WWE ROM gives so I'm translating the spanish messages and programs names into english. Apart of that eventualy my english goes nuts.
So...
First off all you need to have a plan to get data access on your X7500 on a reasonable price. I got Movistar (a company in Spain) that allows me to access using WSDPA where available per around 60 euros a month. If WSDPA is not avaible I can enter the net using UMTS or if not available I can still accessing using GPRS.
Hopefully in the village I'm on holidays (15000 people near Cadiz coast) I got WSDPA coverage.
Second thing. If you have Blackberry on the X7500 just use the Suspend option in order to avoid BB interfering with the Internet Sharing.
Third. If the PC has ActiveSync go into options and unmark the USB in order to avoid the AS connecting the X7500 using USB.
The PC running XP don't need any driver to use the connection.
1) With the X7500 NOT plugged to PC run the Internet Sharing program in the PDA.
2) You will find two combo-boxes. At the first one choose USB. I did the connectiong using BT too and works great but I prefer USB since looks more stable and is suitable to use in any PC even not having BT interface. At the second combo-box choose your profile to access the net. My is Movistar Access... is a name you gave while configuring the profile.
3) Still having the X7500 NOT plugged to the PC press the Connect which is the soft-key in the left side of the screen. You will see the PDA negotiating with the ISP.
4) Once connected then plug the USB cable and the XP will start to recognize the PDA as a Internet Sharing device. First time takes long XP to connect the PDA. As soon as you get the message that the new hardware is usable you can start using Internet Explorer in the PC to access the net thru the X7500.
At the PC in a MSDOS window I need to run a continous ping to a site in order to keep the connection alive. For sample ping -t www.google.com
Whatever the reason if I don't issue the ping the connection hangs if I keep on reading a web page for long time. I tried to find where this timeout is configured but I could. But with the ping to keep alive the connection works great.
In order to disconnect properly my advice is:
1) Close all PC programs running against Internet like Internet Explorer or the ping you are issuing.
2) Unplug the USB cable
3) Press the Disconnect soft-key in the PDA
Unplugging the cable before hitting Disconnect helps to avoid the XP seeing the PDA without the Internet Sharing running.
As I told I run the test using the Bluetooth PAN connection too and works great. My BT interface in the PC is a Concentronic CBTU2 (is USB not bigger that an USB key). And the BT software is IVT Corporation Bluesoleil but I guess any BT interface and software will do the job too.
I hope this is useful.

mahjong
P.D.: If someone knows how to solve the timeout stuff let me know.
Thanks for the detailed tutorial. I've been wanting to try this for when I'm doing presentations and don't have an internet connection. Your English was just fine.
I've also been meaning to try this out, and your post prompted me to do so.
After I press the 'connect' softkey, the status changes to 'check usb cable'.
I then connect the usb cable, and the PC starts the Found New Hardware Wizard, which starts to search for Generic RNDIS drivers. It fails to find them, even using windows update.
And that's as far as I got....
Have you installed Activesync (XP) or WMDC (VIsta)?
Internet sharing uses the drivers from that to create the connection.
Problem solved, with the help of google.
I had activesync 3.8 on my laptop, upgrading to 4.5 has solved the problem, and it all works perfectly now.
mahjong,
What version of BBConnect are you using with your x7500? Did you have to cook your rom to make it work?
I have tried 2.1.2.52 and 4.0.0.67 but both show PIN: Pending and IMEI: Radio Off. I trying not to go through reflashing everything to make this work.
BTW, I'm from Asturias but living now in sunny caribbean.

I'm using 2.1.2.54 over WM5 SO 5.1.465 (15673.3.3.1). I installed BB 4 (don't remember the release) once and the X7500 went nuts so I should hard-reset. But 2.1.2.54 works stable for me for months. OK I forgot to mention I'm connecting to a BES server so is not Blackberry Professional. Mine is Blackberry Enterprise.

P.D.: Desde Asturias al Caribe... hmmm sales ganando en el tiempo pero perdiendo en todo lo demás... jejeje... I love Asturias

My PC runs XP, so... ActiveSync.
My firm just upgraded my notebook to Vista Enterprise 32-bit (against my wishes!). My Mogul is running the most recent Sprint/HTC-supplied ROM, 3.56.651.0. Under XP, I had no problem tethering using the built-in WM "Internet Sharing" app over USB.
Under Vista, no joy.
I've tried a thousand things. I've downloaded the most recent version of WMDC. After disabling "Enable advanced network functionality" in Connections -> USB to PC, I was able to get WMDC to see the device, xfer files, sync, etc. But still no joy on tethering.
The steps I'm following (that worked on XP):
(1) on the device, I fire up Internet Sharing, select USB, and hit Connect; the phone connects to Sprint's Phone as Modem service (which I'm paying for) fine.
(2) I plug the device into notebook via USB cable
(3) the notebook complains "Windows needs to install driver for your Generic RNDIS" and offers "Locate and install driver software (recommended), "Ask me again later", or "Don't show...". I select "Locate and Install..."
(4) the notebook says it's installing the driver, but then complains:
=======
Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.
Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device
A device attached to the system is not functioning.
=======
and then the driver install windows complains:
=======
Device driver software was not successfully installed
Please consult with your device ...
Generic RNDIS Failed
=======
Has anyone gotten _THIS COMBINATION_ (i.e., Vista on the computer, plus a Sprint Mogul running ROM 3.56.651.0) to work? I'm at my wits end.
Thanks!

A quick [non]update, if you're having this problem too... No joy from hours of internet searching and posting on other boards.

my search continues also
i use wmwifirouter to tether via usb/wifi, so i guess you could try that. But i don't think it'll make a difference.
For a while, my vista ultimate wouldn't detect my phone via activesync, i did a repair on it and it fixed. It could probably be the usb driver problems.
I also installed windows 7 to play around, the usb tether worked on that also
I discovered a short while ago that the Media Net was needed in the drop down under Network Connections on the Internet sharing app.
Not sure if ya still looking for a fix but in vista you have to download/install Windows Mobile Device Center then plug your phone and wait for it to detect it. Once the sync is set up disconnect and boot up the internet sharing hit connect then hook up the usb cable. BTW using internet sharing with vista sucks ass cause it randomly connects and disconnects.
I have been using "Wireless Router" for a year and a half now on my XP desktop. It works great, now I have just purchased a laptop w/ Vista Home Premium 64 bit and I get an issue with drivers too.
I have WMDC installed but the system will not recognize my Mogul 6800 as a modem.
If anyone has an idea of were to get the driver or knows any other parameter settings we would appreciate it. I also will update my finds as I search.
BTW, Wireless Modem has a non detection feature if your are interested.
I have a Sprint HTC SNAP S511, and cannot tether.
Rom 1.14.651.1
To begin, I want to tether via USB to a PC. (this phone does not have wifi)
Built-in "INTERNET SHARING" app in WM6.1 gives error 67......I was told this will not work in any case and is essentially a useless app on this phone.
There was another suggestion......to install ICSInstall, and they claimed it is tricky to install ICS.....but this will not install .
If anyone has CURRENT success with USB tethering SPECIFICALLY a Sprint HTC SNAP , please share the how to.
Thanks much!
Hi,
I have a S521, so the information I am going to provide might be totally useless
The Internet sharing app does work fine for me. But a friend with the same phone, and an operator-locked ROM could not get it to work. He flashed is phone with the original HTC ROM and now, it does work.
In your case, it could be that Sprint inhibated this function in order to sell more 3G usb pendrives....
I saw that, also :

Hi
first of all thank you for this great forums. Helped me out a lot of times.
But now I´m facing a problem that I cannot find any solution within xda-forums.
Maybe someone can help?
My HD2 is running with the Pdaimatejam Rom Wp7.5 mango 7.10.8107.79 v7.5
and let me say everything works perfektly, even the market (thx to the zune chatsupport).
I tried to connect to my Laptop (OS: W7) via a virtual wifi connection to use it´s internetconnection for my HD2 at home.
The virtual wifi router (Virtual Router Manager v.0.9Beta) works fine. Tested with a second notebook. (Internetsharing works also) It also could be found via the Hd2 with wifi enabled.
By connecting I typ in the password and the virtual wifi shows the HD2 trying to connect. But at least it can´t. After a few second I get notification on the phone saying: "connection not possible due to no answering from network"
(sorry trying to translate)
On the other side my virtual router manager shows the HD2 during connection process (showing MAC adress) saying "retrieving hostname and IP adress".
After loosing the connection it says "hostname and IP adresscould not be found"
looks like both side trying to connect and can see eachother but can´t catch up. I tried to connect by stopping all AntiVirus Softwares and shutting down Windowsfirewall - no effect. I´m stuck... anybody got the same problems?
Any ideas?
*fixed*
finally I found a solution that worked for me
For all out there that might face the same problem as I described in my first post, here it is:
1. deinstallation of my HD2 from windows7 devicemanager
2. installation of service pack 1 for windows7 on laptop
3. new installation of my HD2 on wm7 (connect phone via usb > autoinstall)
4. installation of the wifi manager named "connectify" (leaving an emailadress is not necessary for downloading it)
5. enjoying a working wifi connection
next step was to remote my zuneplayer via zemote what went smoothly and within minutes
peace out!
