I keep getting these chat messages to my phone. From wierd people I don't even know. It's not a number but a user name. Does anyone know how to block them?

i tried to find an answer to this a few months ago. I could not come up with an answer, the blocking texts, just phone calls...
let me know if you find a solution
Anti SMS bomber
Get SMS bomb er too it'll come in handy
Sometimes responding to the text "stop"without the quotes will remove you from their list. It's worked for me before, but doesn't work on all of them.

some times profanity works too, just throwing it out there. I have successfully unsubscribed from spams emails that way before.

Google voice because?

I understand some ppl use it for voicemail only but how many others use it because sprints service is garbage where your at? Ex being that i miss 3-4 calls n bout 5-7 txt a day jus using sprint service...how do i know this? Google voice tracks calls and texts even when the phone is off (not saying my phone is off tho). Ill get notifications in gv n never get a missed call or txt thru native apps. This is very disappointing on sprints part...

yeah i use it because i get missed calls/texts sometimes. but the google voice app is problematic that it likes to freeze/doesn't send my text/ update my gv inbox.
overall, i'm happy though, and i can respond to text messages from my laptop now
I started using it when my texts would take about an hour to come in. That was on my palm centro. The web interface is best thing in the world.

It doesnt freeze for me but i quit using the app to text i jus use to to notify me of anything incoming. Kid, i feel u. it really sux once u turn gv off n miss a bunch ppl needing to contact

I use it for 2 reasons. First, so I can text over wifi. Second, so I can get my voicemail transcribed. Even with bad transcription, I can usually get the main points.

How do you quit txt if you fully went over to GV?
I use gv so I can text at work (via wifi) and when I'm not at work, I go back to using handcent.. just leave gv sending texts to my phone.. may not be optimum, but can't stand some of the quirks of the gv app...

I leave gv open to receive messages(get notifacation in gv app n turn off notify in native and go sms apps to prevent triple notifies) but i use go sms to send texts out unless i get a text fail because service drops. Then i open gv to text thru 3gdata or wifi. I do this because I get texts that i dont get thru my native text service or go sms apps but can still reveive them in gv even when not on wifi because google intercepts it. Get missed call messages also even tho my phone doesnt ring.

I have been using Google Voice since you had to get a invite to use it. I originally got it for my Archos 5, as it doesn't have a data plan from a carrier. I find it nice that when I got my Optimus s, and Epic, all of my messages were there. No having to copy messages over or anything like that. I didn't have to change my number between phones either, which is always a hassle. I love this app, and have for a longggg time.
Ever since I decided to try gv, it asks me to press "1" to accept calls when I answer them. Even tried uninstalling it, and it still does it. How can I stop it from doing that? Even still get transcribed vm in messaging too. Annoying...

it's easiest to change those settings by logging into the GV site, and changing your settings. If you've enabled the carrier integration, you'll have to call Sprint to get them to remove it.

you need to go into google voice and turn off call screening. uninstalling the app will still have calls going through GV

Group Text / Messaging Woes

Let me first start by saying that I know there are a ton of threads out there supporting issues with users who switch from and iPhone to an S4 and not being able to receive ANY group messages. this is NOT one of those cases.
I have an S4 on AT&T, rooted, stock rom. i use the included/stock SMS/MMS app for my messaging purposes. I know there are alternatives, but this is bugging the crap out of me, so here I go:
I have a group message going with 3 other people with details as follows: Contact 1 - t-mo Windows Phone 8x, Contact 2 - AT&T iPhone 4s, Contact 3 - Verizon S4. When i send a group message, EVERYONE receives it as a group message. when Contacts 1 and 2 respond to the group, i see it as grouped, as does everyone else. When Contact 3 responds, Contacts 1 and 2 see his response as grouped, however, I receive it as an individual message.
This behavior has been consistent on every rom i've tried (unfortunately being on MF3 i'm kinda limited to Tw based, but I digress). If i use textra, chomp, gosms, Contact 3's responses show as part of the group, not individual. what's weirder about this is if I head back to the stock app after Contact 3 responds and his response shows in the group; but when i use the stock app, the aforementioned behavior occurs.
I have literally (at least I think) tried everything beyond a "reflash" suggested by samsung support.
a couple of "requirements" that I've already checked:
1. group messaging - checked
2. mms - enabled
3. mobile data - enabled
i'm getting to my wits end with this. any assistance ANYONE can offer would be amazing!
thanks!
Ha, guess in the only one this is affecting. :/ damn

I have searched and searched as well.. My scenario is close to the same. Any group message my girlfriends is included on (verizon Note II) the exact same thing happens. Her message I receive as a individual separate message, and everyone else receives it in the group.
P.S. Im on an AT&T S4
anyone else?
Fixed the issue. Left the s4 got an HTC one. Couldn't be happier.

That's a sure bummer. Tons of people are switching devices because of things similar to this and of course MF3 locking things up. Referring to your message (although you switched), on my S4, I have that problems sometimes. I also sometimes receive the group message in our individual convo allowing me to download it. After downloading it, it appears in the group chat. Odd behavior.
Glad you found a fix.
I usually have use MMS for group chats on textra and it works fine for me but you have to be on 4g for it to push and send.

How can you send the same text or pictures to multiple people without it being a grou

The reasons that I would not want it treated as a group message are:
I do not want the recipients to see the numbers of other recipientsI do not want the recipients' replies to go to multiple peopleI do not want the recipients' replies to be grouped in a group message, but to instead be part of each individual threaddepending on the message, I may specifically not want a given recipient to know that other recipients received the same message.
Even when I check or uncheck group message it still does it. To me it's a invasion of privacy when you're sent a number from a person you don't know or when your number is sent to someone who you don't know.

Would love the same thing

If you open Settings in the Message App, you can deselect Group Message, you can still send messages to multiple recipients and it will not display the names or numbers that you sent it to.

What about sending pictures. It still including numbers even when it's not checked

I don't think the recipients will see who all you sent it to. Even though you may see it on your phone. I tried it and it works for me.

Sms blocking issue

Im using the stock sms app and I blocked a number but I still get notified when I get an sms from that number, it was my understanding that it will be archived but its not happening for me. Anyone know how to fix this?
Ask them to stop texting you. Eventually 7/10 times they will cease, just wait them out. Give them what they want.
If it. Continues and they threaten you then you have a case for harassment

Textra lets you blacklist people, you will no notifications.
