[How To] Upgrade to Rooted .596 Official Rom - Droid X General

Hey guys! Thought it was weird that no one has done this yet so here it goes!
**FIRST WARNINGS!!**
1) I do not take ANY responsibility for anything that happens to your phone, contract, etc, etc.
2) I do not take create for any material posted here nor do I take credit for the download links! SUPER PROPS to p3droid & Black hat team for those.
3) Make Sure you know what you are doing BEFORE your root / SBF your phone, as I am not usually on much during the day to answer question (do to my job).
** END OF WARNINGS**
So on with the awesomeness that is GINGERBREAD! This How To shows you how to get from basically any rom to Rooted (supposedly deodexed) Official .596 Gingerbread from Motorola & Verizon!
First!! for those of you that upgraded to Leaked Versions of Gingerbread:
1)You need to check both your Gingerbread Version & Radio Versions.
---- To find your versions go settings > about phone > System Version/Baseband Version ----
If your Gingerbread Version is ANY of the following: (588/591/595)
&
If your Radio (baseband) Version ends with: 12P
Then Follow 2b) OTHERWISE FOLLOW 2a) !!
Second!! If You are on a Rooted Froyo Device go to 2c)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2a) SBFing / Back to 2.2 Froyo:
If you are here that means you don't have the requirements to just "update" via bootstrapper to get to Gingerbread I know that sucks BUT there is a WAY!
A) First thing to do for this is to backup ALL your apps!! That's because all your data will be deleted as you will need to be going back to default froyo.
B) You will need to SBF back to Default 2.2 Froyo now. For those of you who don't know what SBF is: think of it as a Recovery process.
ANYWAY back on topic; If you do NOT KNOW how to SBF, then please follow how to do it Here You'll also have to download the default Froyo sbf file found there too. **Please make sure to read through everything in that post before trying to do it!!
Now After your SBF says it's at 100% (and it reboots your phone) Some Droid's perform differently than others. Here is what I mean; in MY personal case the phone rebooted right up into froyo. However some other people's didn't - it was stuck on the red eye logo screen.
If this happens to you:
1) Pull out the battery
2) unplug your usb cord (you can now quit RSD Lite - Don't worry about the warning as it told me the same thing)
3) put the battery back in
4) hold the power and home buttons to get into recovery mode on your phone
5) when the "!" sign shows up click on your search button, and scroll down to "factory reset / cache wipe" click ok then reboot. (this will get you into froyo)
C) Now that you are back to Default Froyo, You'll need to root it again with "Z4Root" which is at the bottom of this post.
I assume since you already rooted before you know how to...
D) After Rooting You'll need to install a copy of Droid 2 Bootstrap which can ALSO be found at the bottom of this post. If you already have Droid X Bootstrapper GET RID OF IT. Because it does NOT work in Gingerbread and for this process, but Droid 2 Bootstrapper does.
After installing Droid 2 Bootstrapper, you'll need to download both of the following files (part 1 & Part 2) and put them on your phone's SD Card:
Part 1:
Mirror 1
Mirror 2
mirror 3
Part 2:
Mirror 1
Mirror 2
Mirror 3
Now that your have both files downloaded I would advise you to rename the files to "2.3.340.MB810.Verizon.en.US-Part1" & "2.3.340.MB810.Verizon.en.US-Part2" This is because when you finally get into bootstrapper you'll know which part you are getting ready to install!
E) NOW ITS TIME TO GET SOME YUMMY GINGERBREAD!! Please PLEASE read everything before doing anything after this point!!
1) First get into bootstrap recovery
2) Go to: Install update off SDCard > Pick part1 > Click ok!
3) DO NOT EXIT RECOVERY!!!! If you do you could brick your Droid!!
4) After it installs part 1, go back down to Install update off SDCard > Pick Part2 This time > Click OK!!
Now at this point you can do 1 of 2 things:
1) You can restart your phone (as I did - which started up the first time)
2) You can go back to the main menu and "Factory reset / Wipe data"
** Please note that Option 2 was NOT tested by me, so I can not say if it works or not **
Your phone should have restarted and is now in Android 2.3.3596 CONGRATS!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2b) Upgrading Directly to Gingerbread
Congrats!! You are part of the few that are able to directly upgrade through bootstrap to Gingerbread!!
1) FIRST Back up all of your Apps, as this update my delete them.
2) Grab Droid 2 bootstrap from the bottom of this post and install it since the Droid X Bootstrapper doesnt work with Gingerbread.
3) Grab the Update below:
Mirror 1
Mirror 2
Mirror 3
Mirror 4
4) Just install as you normally would a ROM, and restart. This Should get you into Rooted, Deodexed, Official .596 Gingerbread
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2c) Time to go back to default!
Alright so you are rooted on Froyo.. Well it's time to go back to your original backup of Verizon's DEFAULT 2.2 that SHOULD have been your first backup. Now if you are reading this and you don't have an original backup, you'll have to either find one for bootstrap, or go to 2a) and follow those instructions
1) Bootstrap Back to your original "Verizon Default 2.2"
2) You'll need to install a copy of Droid 2 Bootstrap which can be found at the bottom of this post.

Your phone should have restarted and is now in Android 2.3.3596 CONGRATS!
Hope this helps those in need! I know I needed a tutorial like this, but unfortunately, I had to get bits and chunks off of about 10 different forums... so HAVE FUN!!

Stuck. Thanks!

Why do we need to SBF to original Froyo if we are running stock rooted Froyo that has never had a ROM installed or anything? I could never find an answer to that, thanks for the instructions, they are a lot clearer than the ones on Droid World.

Nevermind, just did the 2 part install without SBF'ing and it worked like a charm. Nothing like jumping in with both feet!

I'd give it a try before SBF'n

I used the 2 file method yesterday to go from CM7 Nightlys back to GB rooted. No issues. I used Droid 2 bootstrapper to flash the 2 files (I know, not recommended by the CM7 guys). I first tried to perform a restore directly back to GB but that failed due to the kernel differences. But then when I flashed the two files, my data from the attempted GB restore was still there so it all worked out in the end.

THe quick answer is you never needed to. If you follow my directions to 2c) then you see that you need to bootstrap back to default (I assumed that anyone on an already rooted default froyo would just skip this step ) then install the update...
So just for future peoples:
If you are already on the default STOCK motorola 2.2 system and are rooted, just go straight to updating your bootstrapper, and then to the update.
I've had a few days now with this new stock rom, and I am mainly very impressed! Motorola really did bump up the speed, and now I have a lot less freezes / failing apps. I have noticed that the camera is still just a bit buggy, but other than that very good and stable.
Can't wait to see what kind of roms people build off of this one makes me extremely excited just thinking about it... EIther that or the unlocking of the motorola bootloader.

Yes GB is a lot faster and smoother. My only complaint is the keyboard, it seems less responsive and the keys seem smaller. I've had to correct a lot of typing since the upgrade, other than that it's great.

????????

Thanks! Worked great until I noticed a problem...
I started out with a rooted FroYo Droid X and this is what I did step by step for folks like me.
I installed the Droid 2 Bootstrap attached to the original post.
Saved the part 1 and part 2 files in the root of the SD Card (Phone Files).
Started the Bootstrap app.
In the Boostrap app I clicked the Bootstrap Recovery button first and then clicked Success.
I then clicked the Reboot Recovery button and let the phone reboot into recovery.
Now in recovery you have to use the volume up/down buttons to move around on the screen and then use the camera button to select something.
I moved to Install Zip from SD Card and selected it.
I moved to the part 1 file (it's the first one in the list) and selected it.
I moved to the Install Zip from SD Card again and and selected it.
I moved to the part 2 file (it's the second one in the list) and selected it.
After all this you should be back at the main recovery screen again and you should have Reboot System Now as an option. Select it to reboot your phone.
When your phone comes back up you should be good to go. I did notice some of the game icons weren't showing up correctly and so I rebooted the phone again (normally by turning it off and then back on) and then everything showed up fine again.
Like the original poster I didn't wipe my data or cache and everything seems to work fine and I didn't need to reinstall all of my apps or anything.
Again, thanks to the original poster!
[Edit] Had to SBF back to FroYo. After playing with this Gingerbread update for a while I found that my wireless tether apps (Wireless Tether and Barnacle Wireless Tether) were not working and complaining about the phone being in a weird state and also that WiFi Manager was interfering with the wireless tether apps. Since I use my phone as a hotspot a lot I decided to go back to FroYo until this release has baked a bit.

Heck yes, man. This is great work. Definitely will be checking back to this thread to see what is going on with rooting in Gingerbread.
edit: By the way, in Android Market, I see two apps. One is name "Droid 2 Recovery Bootstrap" and the other is named "Droid X Recovery Bootstrap." Both apps are published by ClockworkMod.
Q1: ClockworkMod is a person, right?
Q2: Why does the original poster recommend using Droid 2 Recovery Bootstrap instead of Droid X Recovery Bootstrap?

This is all fine and dandy, but is anyone actually working on a root option for OTA. I have grown tired of SBFing, I just want root. I do not have the know how to find little niches to put root in to my phone, I depend on much smarter people for that, please do not become complacent with this option, help those of us who want root, but either do not have time, do not wish, or just are to afraid to try this method with a simpler way. Thank you
Zues

yes, it is a slight inconvenience, but i dont see any merit to your complaint. You only have to sbf once then flash the pre-rooted gingerbread OTA rom. it's really simple.
1. sbf to froyo 2.3.340
2. root with z4root
3. install droid 2 boostrapper
4. boot into recovery using bootstrapper and install the 2 part zip files.
Done

1) No, ClockworkMod is a group of people working together.
2) I believe the original post said something about how the Bootstrap for Droid X doesn't work with Gingerbread but the Droid 2 Bootstrap attached to the original post does and that is why the post said to use it instead of the Droid X one.

Ok, I have a few answers for a few people:
sjmoreno: The first is about the wireless Tethering: I have the original "wireless tethering for root" available in the android marketplace (although verizon probably has killed it on their droid's so look for it online. I have that, and it works all day long without giving me any complaints.
Second: VZyx: Best way to root is via z4root on Froyo 2.2 if you need help with this go to the topic entitled "Droid X for noobs" to see how to do it.
heyandy889: No need to go to the android marketplace, just grab the .apk that's at the bottom of this post. The reason why you don't want droid X bootstrapper is because for some reason, (most likely because it's older) it doesn't work in gingerbread but droid 2 bootstrapper does. If you ever use droid X bootstrapper in gingerbread you have a possibility of bricking your phone... that and it won't do anything.

It has been reported by several people that Droid X Bootstraper can work but you have to turn off USB debugging in /Settings/Applications/ Development

I would still not trust it. Better to just have droid 2 strapper

shukero,
It has been reported in several sites that the Gingerbread update from Verizon has an added software blocker that disables non-Verizon wifi apps from working. So I find it working for you to be surprising to say the least.
In the thread in this section titled "wireless tether" there is a post with a link to another site where a user named wugfresh has a very nice post about the problem and has a solution to it as well. After trying his patch to get wifi tethering working again on this Gingerbread rom I can report it works GREAT.
So, thank you for this rom but without wugfresh's wifi tether fix I'd still be using the FroYo rom.
Thought some other users of this rom and those that use Wireless Tether for Root will find this post interesting.

.596 ROM's deodexed?
Are these .596 rom's provided are they Deodexed by chance?

I am on the .596 root made by p3droid.
I am wondering if I could reinstall the 2 parts to get back to a stock .596 root with all the apps back on. Every once in awhile my phone will reboot and apps will just force close then reopen with no questions.

[Q] (Q) Droid X Life Timer & Refurb status

I just got a used Droid X , and want to know the life timer and refurbish status, what dial code to check that ?
The Droid X is still Android 2.1 and i want to upgrade to Froyo 2.2 and custom rom, can somebody help expalining the procedure to Flash, Root, 2.2 Upgrade and custom rom (I am a newbie to this) ?
Thanks a ton before.
First you want to make sure you charge your battery to atleast 70% then go to Settings>About Phone>Check for Updates. It will download 2.2 then guide you through the installation. To root your phone their are several methods. One of the easiest probably being downloading the app "z4Root" from the market. It was made by a member of these forums and I have used it many times its a simple 1 tap and its done.
Then you will need to get a few things to flash a ROM. They are Droid X Bootstrapper and Clockwork Recovery (Rom Manager).
Open up ROM manager and click "Flash Recovery" at the top, make sure you click allow when the superuser thing pops up.
Open Bootstrapper hit "Bootstrap recovery" and allow it then hit "Reboot recovery." Don't freak out when your phone restarts its supposed to do that. Then you know Clockwork recovery works.
Once you find the ROM you want just follow the instructions on the thread for the ROM EXACTLY! And you should be all set.
If you need more help their are plenty of tutorials all over the internet.
Sorry for the terrible organization and grammar i just woke up and I'm still in bed using my phone to type this lol.

[Q] Moto Milestone X (Any way to root/custom rom's) ?

Hello, I just got a Motorola Milestone X. Its running on ACS alaska network. From reading I've done this phone appears to be the moto x but just not the vws branded phone? My question does anyone know of a way to root it and or any custom roms for it? Its filled with bloatware and no way to remove it and the stock rom is very ugly.
Ive tried z4root, superoot, androot and various other rooting guides that were supposed to work on the Moto X but all have failed me. Its running 2.2.1 and from what I gather this might be the problem?
Any help or info from anyone else familiar with this phone would be greatly appreciated as I hate it in its current stock form and would like to at least be able to remove the bloatware and crap I dont use even if there arent any custom roms for it. Thank you
Possible root
I also have a milestone x from a local carrier, and was able to root it.
I downloaded and installed all the Motorola drivers.
http://www.motorola.com/Support/US-...tware_and_Drivers/USB-and-PC-Charging-Drivers
Hooked the phone up and went through each mode to ensure all the drivers were installed.
I then installed the latest version of SuperOneClick from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
I then extracted and ran SuperOneClick, chose the psneuter exploit and clicked root. This was able to root the phone. I did need to reboot the phone before the superuser application would work though.
I haven't looked into custom roms yet.
thank you very much for the information. I tried super one click but it would always lock up but maybe i'll give it another try. Is your phone running 2.2.1? Thanks again for the reply.

I must have used a older version of SuperOneClick before. This one you linked worked with no problems at all. Thank you so much!
No prob, glad it worked for ya.
Thanks for the post. I was going through the same frustrations with my new ACS Milestone X. I see now that there is a new version of SuperOneClick ... anybody else trying to make this work, make sure you use v1.7.
So back to JDinAZ74's second question ... now that we've rooted are there custom roms for our CDMA version of this phone? I see tons of roms but none that I've noticed specify GSM or CDMA, which usually means it's GSM. Anybody know for sure?
the dx is on verizon, so its all cdma. i not sure it would matter though...
Yeah I'm not sure it matters either ... I know on my HTC Desire it mattered. If I flashed it with a GSM rom it would not boot.
Okay so somewhat unrelated ... i've got bootstrap installed and was able to do a rom backup via clockwork recovery. Is there a way to boot into recovery from the device being off? I tried every combination of buttons while pressing the on button but nothing works. I've looked all over the forum (and googled) but can't find anything.
I want to start installing custom roms but am affraid of something going wrong and me not being able to reflash my backup.
Then again maybe I'm just confused because I'm coming from a Desire which I've discovered Motorola and HTC modding differs significantly.
Im still looking for roms as well and kinda afraid to just start trying things like you said. If you come across anything that works let me know and ill do the same.
to get to stock recovery, hold power and home till the moto logo appears, then release the power button until you get an exclamation point, then let go and click the search button.
to get to cw recovery, do a battery pull and reboot.
if you completely **** your phone, sbf.

Wouldn't the SBf only work on a Droid x?

Fantastic! Thank you.
I don't know that they could do an sbf being on a non Verizon carrier. The sbf files out are all for Verizon. If you do screw up your phone you would have to take it into the store and have them sbf it. And they might not. I think you guys just need to be a little careful. Unless you can find an sbf file from your carrier. Try apex, rubix, or liberty roms for flashing. All the roms are cdma. Good luck and be careful.

The milestone x uses the same RSA key for its bootloader as the original Droid X. You CAN flash a Verizon SBF into it and it will work, HOWEVER, it will NO LONGER work with your carrier. It is also important to note that ANY SBF will overwrite the baseband AND the baseband configuration (unless specifically noted NOT to do so) rendering the phone useless, requiring re-programming, which for the voice part is no big deal, but to get EVDo working again you'll need to edit some non-user accessible parameters with QPST and what not to get it to connect back to the non verizon carrier.
What you CAN do with this phone is non-baseband patching updates/roms. If you've got a Milestone X you're not on verizon, so you're not able to use the leaked SBF's and what not, which removes a decent safety net. So flash with caution. If your carrier is small enough they are likely to re-sbf your phone for you if you brick it.
One last word of caution.. Verizon's DX on leaked GB's updates the BL to a newer version than is on the Milestone X. This will turn your phone into a Droid X, with no ability to go backwards until the same BL is available on the Milestone X.
In short, we non VZW DX owners have a lot less fun..
Bollocks to that.
really wish I knew if someone had tried, I really want to try that leaked gingerbread.
went ahead and took the plunge with... SUCCESS. I installed Liberty 2.0.1 and nothing went wrong, you just got to be more careful than others who have the sbf backup.
Went to ACS today because i'm considering this phone, ACS is partnering with Verison(GSM), and GCI is partnering with Sprint (CDMA).
Just incase it's not clear i'm sure roms for Verizon will work for ACS and roms for sprint should work with GCI.
Double check incase i have the two "bands mixed up" i know i have the carrier relationships right.
Does anyone know if we can overclock with out romming?
I tried droid overclock a few times which always sent the phone into a boot loop. Id have to pull the battery and do a factory reset to get it running again.

[Q] Failing the 2% rule.

Here is what I have done.
I rooted with z4root. I have not done anything else (no roms or changes to the software) I do have adfree and wireless tether installed.
I have read the directions for the two part download to root, but I’m stuck at this.
IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE MOST CURRENT RADIO .12P THEN YOU WILL NEED TO SBF BACK TO .340 AND THEN USE METHOD 2.
If I’m reading it correctly my radio is at .07P (Baseband version?)
Will I be able to use the patched update.zip process, or will It cause me issues.
Yes I am a noob, and I have no problem admitting it.
The 2 part download is for method 2 - that's what I used. I was rooted, but still on stock .340. Make sure you use a MD5 checker to verify the integrity of your 2 downloads! I put the 2 zip files in the root of the SD card and installed the Droid2 bootstrap program (not Droid X).
Start the bootstrap program, click on Bootstrap Recovery, click OK at the success dialog box, then click Reboot Recovery. Your X will reboot to a text interface. Use the volume keys to move up and down, camera button to select, and the Back button to go back.
Select install zip from the list and install the first zip file. DO NOT REBOOT YET!!!! Install the second zip file, then reboot. You should be on rooted Gingerbread with all your settings, homescreens, etc. intact.
Also, make sure you have USB debugging (Settings-Applications-Development-USB debugging) enabled.
First thanks for the help.
The radio difference is my hang up.
just noticed Im getting pushed the update now. I hpe i can stop it from running so I can get root again.
I had your same issue. I had rooted stock froyo, but my radio was 7 not 12. I read it a bunch of times, then came to the conclusion that he was talking about folks already on GB.
Everything worked fine using method 2. Only issue I have is with corporate sync, but that is busted for a coworker who did OTA update too. I think it is a separate issue.
I used droid2 recovery.
so, download away!
rooted fine. everything looks good, but I am one of those who can not find a wifi tether to work.

Droid 2 new ota update

Here is the link to the new update to install just rename to update.zip place on the root of your sdcard then reboot recovery and install update.zip
http://www.4shared.com/file/ov_2h3JM/Blur_Version2320A955VerizonenU.html
Why would someone need to download this, shouldn't everyone be able to update over the air.
FYI really like 2.3 runs very nice on droid2
To answer your question, I would. I recently left verizon and now I cannot get the OTA update. I still use my Droid 2 for android development. I just don't use it for a phone.
That said. I can't use the above update. I SBFed my phone back to stock Froyo System version 2.3.20, installed z4root to load clockworkmod Droid 2 recovery, and finally attempted to flash the above file from the SD card. I get the following error:
assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") == "cdma_droid2" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "cdma_droid2"
blah blah blah
(Status 7)
From the failed assertions I'm assuming this update doesn't recognize my phone as a Droid 2 and refuses to install the update. Does anyone know why that might be? Like I said I restored to stock before attempting this.
Wait a second. The file linked is called Blur_Version.2.3.20.A955.Verizon. That's the stock Froyo version. Is it called that because you need to be on that version or is this just an older file? I'm confused. Is this or isn't this the just released Gingerbread update?
It's an oddly named file, but the last time I saw that one linked it was the OTA. I still feel one is better off SBFing to stock and downloading it that way.
What's going on, I was following the steps on theunlockr but when I tried to extract the OG firmware my laptop said it was probably damaged, any way I can get the firmware somewhere else? I am running on Fission right now and want to go back to stock so I can scoop this update, it looks pretty nice. Please help me out if you can, thank you.
If you want to go back to stock to force the update the right way, the above file won't help you.
1. Get RSD Lite http://www.multiupload.com/HL0ZAL9GK8
2. Get Moto Drivers http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7632904/USB_Drivers_bit_4.7.1.zip
3. Get Froyo SBF http://bit.ly/dir7fq
Install the Moto Drivers on your pc, then boot into your bootloader and connect via usb. Then run RSD and load the SBF file. Once you complete that, reboot the phone and go to settings > phone info > check for updates. The new GB should be waiting for you, all official like.
Good looking out fam, will check in when finished!
Despite the odd name it is the correct file. But do not use CWM or bootstrap to flash it! Rename it to update.zip on root of sd card then use Stock recovery to flash it.

You're right it worked! I'm finally gingerbreaded. Thanks so much everyone.
Hello again, so my phone is just stuck on the Droid loading screen (Droid followed by the red symbol) I have no idea what to do although I followed the steps stated above.
**EDIT**
So I was able to fix this problem by wiping the cache as well as my data, thank you all!

If you want to go back to stock to force the update the right way, the above file won't help you.
1. Get RSD Lite
2. Get Moto Drivers
3. Get Froyo SBF

I tried this exactly as stated and I cant get me droid 2 to be seen in the RSD. I get a drive letter when I reboot to recovery but nothing shows in RSD. Any ideas? I tried wiping data and cache and did a factory reset still nothing.
Back to a rom manager backup from yesterday atm.
Make sure your phone is in PC Mode (and possibly Debugging Mode) so RSD can recognize it.

Thanks I made sure I have debugging on and in pc mode. I see Droid 2 when I have my phone powered on but when I reboot in recovery just a drive letter and nothing in RSD.
I just saw this

Must have missed it the first time I read the thread I will try to install it as update.zip through the standard recovery and see if that works.
Ok I was able to get this on my phone with RSD the trick is to have your phone in PC mode and NOT to reboot it yourself the program will do it automatically. I got my phone updated but now it wont even give me the option to download the update OTA.
Yea I could've told you not to manually reboot. So you did a SBF to 2.3.2 and went into Settings > About > and System Updates and got nothing?
Correct I redid the sbf twice more to make sure it took.. when I go to settings > about > and system updates its greyed out.
UPDATE: I dededeee it, forgot to reactivate my phone after sbf the 3rd time. trying the OTA now
Ok phone is upgraded and rerooted.
1. sbf with RSD 3 times till it took
2. upgrade with OTA
3. rerooted with One Button Root
4. replaced progs with titanium
phone is fast right now, lovin it.
Glad you FINALLY got it working. Try out CM7 for GB. Do a backup before doing so and see if you like it. If not you can always restore back.
I think I may have done something wrong. My phone works but it restarts randomly, is there a way I can get it to stop this? Should I start from scratch or just get a different ROM?

New Bravo owner -- Tips and Tricks I learned so far

I picked up a Motorola Bravo to use as a secondary phone on ebay for a steal of a price and thought I would share some of my success / failures / tips I have learned so far.
Successes:
Rooting the phone this was very easy as I just followed other instructions on this forum.
1. Install Drivers from here: http://developer.motorola.com/docstools/USB_Drivers/ then reboot
2. Download and install latest SuperOneClick, unzip, plug in your phone, run the executable. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682 Click the ROOT button and let it do it's thing. I suggest letting it install busybox as well. **NOTE THIS VERSION DID NOT work for Allowing non market APPS***
Allow non market APPS: this was a bit more tricky
1. Install the same motorola drivers from rooting (if you didn't already)
2. Find SuperOneClickv1.5.5 -- Be careful .. some of the files I found triggered virus warnings. I found this link to be reliable: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=I88D36X6 this URL was found on this post: (for the paranoid to refer back to) http://androidforums.com/x10-all-things-root/254097-new-rooting-method-2-1-updated-2-0-2-0-24-9-01-2011-a.html
Failures:
I have not yet been able to completely disable MotoBLUR. I saw two different ways of doing this... one was to edit the build.prop and add the following lines:
ro.mot.deblur=true
ro.mot.setuptype=2
This didn't work, but I also wasn't sure how to clear the phone data/cache ... maybe in the recovery mode? Can anyone confirm this method works on the Motorola Bravo?
The second method I saw was to type eebluroff I am assuming after booting the phone for the first im after a factory data reset. I saw one post saying you should be able to do this by bringing up the keyboard on the screen where you select the system language. I was not able to get the keyboard to come up therefore I couldn't get this method to work.
Anyone else have any luck?
Finally I plan to try carrier unlocking the phone, enabling wifi tethering, and eventually try a ROM or two out.
I'll say this now. I have the bravo. I have T-Mobile service. Not at&t. All I did was call them and asked for the code. Very nice people there. Took me about 10 minutes total including going through menu prompts and holding time.

And Super One Click will unlock non-market apps. Just click root and let it go. Reboot your phone. Click Shell root and let it finish. THEN click the non-market button W/O rebooting!
great tips,
hey junkyardjames87, can you post couple links for roms? thanks
The best thing you can do for your bravo is flash CM7 or MIUI on it

thanks for the tips.
i went through a lot of threads, a lil bit confused, this is my first android phone. im already in love with it.
my bravo is unlocked with code, running 2.2.1 froyo, i think its rooted but im not sure, there is market logo on the home screen, and it has the superuser icon too when i click on the circle to app page.
and it doesnt really lag a lot, its just not as snappy compare to my friend's iphone4. never wanted any apple products, they are way overpriced lol, i think with mod bravo should run really fast doe.
cm7 or miui is androind 2.3 right? is there any glitch after install it? what are the steps if i wanna install one of them
thanks in advance
