Is there any hope that Netflix will play on the iconia?
I would think that it would be a better choice to make Netflix work on tablets before phones but this just doesn't look like the way it is going to play out.
Can the iconia just not play video good enough or just being ignored by Netflix?

got an idea if anyone can do it
So I was messin around abit yesterday and had some brainbstorms yesterday. If you run Linux you can't run silverlihgt hence no Netflix via browser. However if you install the add on called moonlight through Firefox or chrome you can do a work around via desktop on PC and stream throuhg the browser. I believe the browser on the tab is a variant of chrome. Would it be possible to rebuild moonlight into an addon or apk for the browser either in debuged desktop compatibility mode as a work around. Thoughts?
I think back in April, the mono guys ( before most were laid off ) showed off a preview of moonlight for Android & it was good... but then they got laid off...
Anyway, I'm sure we'll get Netflix on our Iconias as soon as Netflix is able to guarantee DRM'd playback so the studios won't jump all over their butts.
Has anyone else seen the recent news on the Netflix app in the last 24 hours?
Version 1.3 adds support for 16 new devices, with the only Honeycomb tablet being a Lenovo one. However Xoom users report very high instances of the APK working on their tablets. Most Iconia users have reported the still remaining 12001 error. However you can no longer download Netflix from the market. I have rooted 3.1 and no go for me.
Several people have requested that the people trying it on the Iconia list their ROM / root status, however few have listened.
I'm on rooted OTA 3.1 and I manage to DL the Netflix app before the update and before they banned it from the market on the Iconina and when I open the app it prompted me to update. Attempted to update but I get the "the request could not be found" error from the market.
Even attempted to play with the version I had and I still got the 12001 error.
Btw, here something official from Acer:

What she said. I've been watching NetFlix movies for a few weeks now on my Iconia.
works for me fine on my wifes non rooted A500. I also have it working on my Transformer nonrooted
Here is a link for a version that works on all devices no patch, no extra lib. If you have Netflix installed already then clear data and uninstall first.

This is working for me. Stock Iconia, 4 hours out of the box (Android 3.0.1) Rooted, no OTA updates. Netflix also did want me to update but I pressed cancel.
Running stock 3.1 rooted and have tried the official Netflix 1.4 app plus the one posted in this thread. Neither work....Hope either Netflix adds support or someone hacks an apk correctly soon.

+1. Tried em all to no avail. Don't feel a patch that cripples other functions of my device is a good one and will wait. Come on Netflix, get with it already...Hulu too...sigh.
DRM is what keeps us from bootlegging stuff isnt it? ive got netflix working on my a500, with a force close for the back camcorder. rooted. see below for versions.
someone want to help me understand DRM? i know it is to protect the people that make money from netflix, but since i have it working on my a500 and there is no DRM for the a500 according to netflix, what does that mean? how does DRM keep me from making copies? i installed the patch to my .so file. which i have a copy of the original if anyone needs it. but what does the patch do exactly? im not trying to rip off netflix, but i woukd like to understand how they are able to stop so many of us from accessing netflix.
Just got the A500. Runs great, pulled 3 updates to get to 3.2. Just a curious question about the market? It looks like a older version. There is no music. Does the tablet not support Google music yet? or is there an apk out there to update the market?
Thanks

Depends. What version is your market?
The newest version, 3.3.11 I believe, really isn't fully supported for HC if I remember correctly, but seems to work ok. If I'm wrong, please, somebody correct me.
The bad thing, is that you upgraded to HC 3.2. Which means it'll be a pain in the keister (but not impossible) to root and install it properly. Better off to wait for an official version to become available.
I usually install mine manually, but I'm rooted and can do that.
Thank you. Explains much.
Hello,
I'm trying to check for the ICS OTA update for my Iconia A500 but i keep getting the "Your device is up to date" answer since 2 days.
My A500 was never rooted, it is running the official 3.2.1 ROM, and was only updated with all previous official OTA Acer updates. More details here below:
Model Number: A500
Android Version: 3.2.1
Kernel Version: 2.6.36.3+
Build Number: Acer_A500_7.014.14_COM_GEN1
I've also tried to uninstall and reinstall the "ICONIA TAB Update Enhancement" app from the Google Play store but it does not work either.
Any idea why my table can't see the official ICS OTA updated?
Thanks
Be patient maximum 2 more days , it will update soon.
Did you get the update app in Google play? Search Acer it should be right there. I did that last night and this morning I updated to ics

Yes, as mentioned, I also tried to uninstall and re-install the Acer "ICONIA TAB Update Enhancement" application from Google Play but the OTA update is still not visible
I also do not have a System Update under the system settings option. I am rooted and did have flexreaper ics, but went back to stock 3.2.1 with root and busybox..... but no update option showing. Any way to fix this?
No Joy as well
I have not received the update as of yet. I am sure it will update. I wonder if they have delayed the update due to some of the issues I have been reading about the past day.
no ics yet?
any idea what's up with the 1/8th of us without ICS update?
In vancouver, BC, running latest upgraded iconia a500 1st gen

I am having the same problem. I downgraded back to Honeycomb 3.2.1 and then unrooted using the ROM Manager app... I'm just confused and a little disappointed that this isn't working. I guess I shouldn't have jumped the gun and used the flexreaper rom early :/
i was having the same problem but it was me being lazy and don't want to wifi OTA from 3.01 to ICS. it turned out the 3.2 stock rom i have flashed always get the message of "your device is up to date". so i simply do a full restore of my original system and it OTA without problem. hope this would help out some of you stuck on the "your device is up to date". i noticed my updated stock rom is kept at GEN2 and GEN 2 is for US. so you guys could try to flash with the stock Acer_A500_7.006.01_COM_GEN2 rom and see if it would solve your problem if you never backed up your original system. Below is the link with all the stock available thanks to vache. i forgot to mention that the stock 3.2 i had flash is GEN1 that gives me the message of "device already up to date". after i wifi OTA from my original stock system 3.01 to ICS, i noticed they all have GEN2 after it.

OK, being fedup of waiting for the OTA update, I did the update manually myself. I've tried first to use the 3.2 GEN2 update then tried to run OTA but it did not worked ("your device is up to date"). So the only solution left was to do the update using the ICS update.zip that was available in the post URL you mentionned. And now my tablet is up and running with ICS.
Thanks a lot to all for your help and especially to chris8599
Hello all,
I purchased my Acer Iconia A500 several months ago - living in Toronto, Canada. I registered my device but was stuck at 3.0.1 for almost a month. Finally, I received an OTA and my A500 was upgraded to 3.2. I waited and waited - now almost two months, and have still not received the update to 3.2.1. Now that ICS is rolling out, I am not being offered the upgrade because my device seems to be stuck at 3.2.
Acer has been no help - still waiting to hear from their "second level" support. So my question is - does anybody have an easy way for me to get this [email protected]##$%%^^&&*& device upgraded safely to 3.2.1 so I can get my ICS update? I've read thread after thread but none of them seem to give any clear instructions for what I should do.
Advice / help would be greatly appreciated
To receive the ICS update, you must have the Iconia Tab Updater installed from the Google Play store.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...lt#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5GRC51cGRhdGVyIl0.
make sure you have this installed and up to date.
Same problem almost although I'm rooted 3.2.1 and no update shows been trying many times. Have the update enhancement even tried uninstalling and downloading it again. Do I unroot and how been asking everywhere and still no answer. I want the ics update!

Hello - I installed the Iconia Tab Updater a very long time ago. Even uninstalled /reinstalled several times to be sure it was working properly. Any other ideas?
To sRDennyCrane:
I saw that thread and didn't think it would work. Decided to try and success!!! I now have ICS in 15 minutes
Thanks so much for directing me back to the thread - happy to FINALLY have my A500 updated.
I have aokp installed, and couldn't download Netflix so I updated to the newest version of aokp and it's still saying that Netflix is unsupported by my phone. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks.
I figured it out. Netflix blocks unofficial builds for official download. It's just as easy to sideload the apk.
