[Q] "3g only" mode is possible in U8800? - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

Hello ! What about adding this option to our phone? Thanks!

it is already possible even in stock condition
1) go to your dialer and dial *#*#4636#*#*
2) hidden menu will appear, tap Phone information
3) scroll the page down and look for preferred network type:
4) select wcdma only and you will have 3g only

Its good , but having this option in main menu is better , isn't it? I think if this option present in hidden menu , we may add it ti main?

Not sure how you can add it to the main menu.
But u can simplifies the above steps by using Anycut to create a shortcut to "Phone Info" so that the "3g only" setting is only 2 taps away from home screen
good luck

l *#*#4630#*#* didnt work for me
i got it to work its *#*#4636#*#*

Thanks for the correction, had a typo

Disable GSM!!!!

My old device was htc wizard. There was an option to disable gsm (phone) only. Is there any way to do this in g1? I just want to avoid calls and in the same time to use wifi. Airplane mode doesn't work for me, because it disables wifi too

Not quite the way you are accustomed to it, but there is a 'way' around it... you basically leave the phone on but you can turn on call forwarding... settings > call settings > call forwarding > always.
It doesn't turn the phone off but it won't ring either.

i was wondering the same thing, there might come out with a fix for this in the next update.
demontefixo, i was using the same solution, but I hoped for real solution to disable GSM. Anyway I will just wait
PS: This device is amazing I'm so happy with it. I wasn't using windows on my computer and laptop, and now i am completely MS free
Install anycut and Create a Software to Hidden Application named Phone Info, their you can see the Phone or Radio disable type of option. I have Tried it
It can actuall disable Radio and keep the Wifi on, But i could not renable radio and must have to reboot the phone.
Through the same Phone Info shortcut you can enable it to use WCDMA only or just prefer WCDMA or use GSM only. I think that is what mony87 was looking for.
Or you can go to:
Settings
Mobile networks
Operator selection
If you only see T-Mobile then Search Networks.
Select a non subscribed Network like ATT
It will tell you you your SIM card does not allow a connection...
But if you don't re-select TMobile the Phone Connection will turn off.
To get your Phone Connection back, just select TMobile

I thought I had the same issue but you actually can re-enable the radio after you turn it off...it just takes a while...
Bring up the dialer, type in: *#*#INFO#*#*. Shouldn't need to hit enter. Scroll all the way down, and hit "Turn off radio".

Forcing HSDPA mode?

With every other android phone i had i could force the phone to use 3G only by going to *#*#4636#*# and selecting "WCDMA Only".
I can do the same on the SGS but it does not do anything. it has no effect on the phone.
Anyone has any idea how to do this on the SGS?
Yes..I am looking for the same information..Without this feature..i am screwed.the phone keep going to 2G as long as the signal strength is stronger than 3G..this priority scheme logic suck big time for data centric phone which data speed is more important..
DownlOad anycut, run it,NEW SHORTCUT - ACTIVITY - PHONE INFO
A short cut will now be on your homescreen with all the required options.
*#*#197328640#*#* > debug screen > phone control > network control > band selection
You need to do this after each reboot though as it does not stick.

You don't need to type all that *#*#.........#*#* on your I9000, just hold the menu button down(which is the button in the middle of the bottom of the phone) and you will see an icon called service mode and this is the mode after you type all that out.

That's only if you've typed all that stuff already in the current session.
The Network app (by Philipp Mangelow) is a bit easier to handle though.
need to say sorry first... i've just found out this as well.
my bad.

Yes, you can.
Here's from Sean's SKYICS.
It's on Page # 3, Look for APNs just do *#2263# choose WCDMA instead of LTE, , I just tried mine and voila, :victory:

Doesn't work. Brings up an option that says "RAT Selection Option is restricted" I can't select anything or make any changes (it also doesn't give an option for Cellular type" looks like AT&T locked it down again.)

Did you take the SIM card out before you do that ? It won't work with the SIM in.

It should stay here's how.
With the SIM card remove Dial *#2263# select WCDMA, select All, then bottom left haptic button select end and reboot with the SIM card in
I mean don't do the next step (Open dialer again.Dial *#2263# select automatic)
maybe this could be a project for the devs that allow us to simply enable and disable using radio buttons or something.
anyone know if it's possible?

Yes it is possible but we'll have to be patient.
Does it drain battery even if you are not in an LTE supplied area?

1.Click on Menu button and go to Settings.
2. Go to "More....", once in, click on "Mobile Networks"
3. Go to "Access Point Names"
4. Once in you will see "AT&T PTA" with a radial button as your only option. This is the default gateway.
5. Click on Menu button below, and you will have two choices, "New APN" or "Reset to default" click on New APN.
You will see a series of lines under "Edit Access Point" and click on "APN" and enter as follows "wap.cingular"
If you like you can rename the "Name" to whatever you like...I used "AT&T HSPA+"
Click "Save"
This will give you access to HSPA+ network only. I found this info online for the Galaxy SIII with ICS coming stock. This is an ICS only option I believe, I don't recall cause I dumped the Gingerbread 2.3.6 cause it was burning up batteries like crazy.
Please be advised I have the Galaxy SII Skyrocket, they are building the LTE network in my area as we speak and I was getting all sorts of interference from their testing and upgrades so until its complete I'm running HSPA+ only and the problems went away.
Hope this helps!

That might work. But it will not turn off the LTE radio, the phone will still have LTE on but will connect to the slower internet. LTE remains on=battery drain is on.

2g/3g/2g+3g = how to have a choice?

Good afternoon.
could you tell me if there is a solution to have the choice to stay on the 3G network and not only on the 2 (2G/3G)? because when I had my gs3, I stayed more on the 3g when I chose the option 3g only. thank you.

CM 10 has this feature as a quick toggle (link to ROM dev thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2020859).

Go to the dialer. Type *#*#4636#*#*
Choose: Phone Information
Scroll down and change "WCDMA Preferred" to "WCDMA only"
No more 2G. Until your reboot. Then you'll have to do those steps again.
Or you can go to the dialer -> then type in *#*#4636#*#* -> then choose phone info, next, scroll down and you'll see a rectangular box that has "WCDMA Preferred". Click on that, a list of options would then appear.
2G only=GSM Only
3g only=WCDMA Only
2g + 3g=WCDMA Preferred or GSM/WCDMA (Auto)

thank you all for your tip, but I did not really want to install a cyanogen rom on my vanilla because rootbox suits me very well and the thing * # * # 4636 # * # * I already knew, but just the fact of power on / off connection ensures that the default setting revert ...

Fix: Asus Zenfone V (V520KL, A006) Verizon Cellular Service

The Zenfone V loses network connection multiple times a day, requiring restarts, because the "preferred network type" is set to "GSM/WCDMA/LTE" but must be changed to "LTE".
How I changed to "Preferred network mode: LTE" without issue:
1. Get "SHORTCUT MASTER LITE" from apkmirror.com
2. open the app
3. Press the (...) button on the top right > App Explorer
4. Scroll down and press: "com.qualcomm.qti.networksetting"
--(It has a picture of a phone next to it)
5. Press MobileNetworkSettings > Launch > Preferred network type > LTE
6. done (may need reboot)
This is a classic network issue but not clearly fixed for the Zenfone V because the setting is absent in the usual Settings > Wireless & Networks... More > Mobile Networks. There Are lengthy threads at Verizon and Asus about this connection problem.
