Hi guys
After the upgrade to recently released TMOUS 3.14.531.1 MR. I seem to be having weaker wifi signal.
So, I returned to custom ROM and tried different radios including stock radios. After performing task 29, checked with different ROM (custom and stock) and following radios:
2.10.50.26
2.12.50.02
2.14.50.04
2.15.50.14
still find that wifi strength is way low then it used to be. No problem with the wifi router as my three different laptops can pick up the signal from anywhere in the house.
Also, I used to see my neighbor's wifi access point in the phone wifi setting but I don't see it now, so it is definately a phone issue.
I think it is not a hardware problem, as I can access wifi in a close range. The strength weakens at a great reate with distance.
My android port also has a weak wifi signal and performs as in the winmo settings so it does not look like winmo rom issue.
My theory is that the radio file and setting are messed up and are affecting the performance. Task 29 only cleans up the ROM area and I haven't seen anything in the forum which can clear up the radio software section of the HD2 so that a fresh radio install can be done.
Can some one provide a clue on what should be done?
Thanks.
Have you tried to flash back the stock rom with SD card and start all over again? It may help.

Did you try the Wi-Fi advanced menu in WM and switch it to best performance?
The exact same thing happened to me, too. I am trying to avoid a master reset if at all possible. Is there someting in the registry that can be changed or possibly reloading a driver?

Yes, tried sd install too. Converted my HSPL2.8 to SPL2.10000 in the process. Also, reverted to the stock radios. Still wifi is weak.

1) I am pretty sure the radio rom has nothing to do with wifi, radio rom is likely the firmware for the cellular radio/modem only
2) I agree with the above about the SD card flash, This will overwrite everything. if you are still having issues after an SD card flash then its probably a hardware issue, interference, or the APs for some reason aren't outputting as strong of a signal

Ok, I have found that inserting SD card is causing issue in my unit. Without a SD card wifi signal strength is fine. I have detailed the issue in the following thread in the General Section since it seems that a lot of people are having wifi signal strength probelm and that section looks more appropriate for this discussion.

Finally, solved the wifi problem. Looks like connector coming loose.
This is how the problem was solved.
Opened up the unit and seated all the cables properly. Also raised the copper spring connectors a bit so that when the phone back is snapped in place, the antenna and motherboard are properly connected.
HTC HD2 diassembly/assembly video is available at the following site:
http://pocketnow.com/hardware-1/official-htc-hd2-disassembly-assembly-training-videos-leaked
but be warned, your warranty will be void if you open your phone!
Also, a SD install of of ship ROM overwrite both radio and rom so that is a task 29 for radio.
Can someone tell me how to get the Wi fi working in windows 7 on hd2 ??
assuming you have actually tried turning it on there couple of a couple of possible reasons its not working.
firstly WP7 wont connect to hidden networks
secondly, wifi not working is a very common sign of a incompatible SD card,
Thanks for the reply
a "compatible SD card" well what are most people using?
I am using a SanDisk 4G is that good or bad?
I also have a 16G but that’s for android
I'm using my stock tmous 16gb sandisk. From what I've read, & including the three HD2's I've installed WP7 on, it's very compatible.
yes i have the same problem, i know my sd card works with it because, i went through like 4 roms, and it worked perfect. I have installed HD2O_1.04_DFT_LEO70_RELEASE, and everything is perfect BUT wifi
ok let me be clear on this one, dispite what some folk on here believe there is no compatible list, any thread suggesting otherwise is just a waste of bytes.
however, in saying that, statistically, you have a better chance with a class 2 or 4 8gb or 16gb, thats not to say others wont work because they might, in short its luck!
sandisk, an all the other brands all suffer the same issue, im not going in to details on that issue but bassically even the same make and model of a card may or may not work, this is down to the manufacturing process and what components are used.
The only way you can take anyones "advice" on a specific card working is if they have tried it and physically gave it to you.
yes its a common error, you SD card might work but if its not completely compatible it may have issues, wifi, lagging, random reboots etc.

then, it's not your sd card that is the problem! simple logic here mynamemonte.
can you new folks please be more specific when asking questions? a generic question like "how do i get wi-fi to work in wp7 on a hd2" leaves open all sorts of interpretations.
a better question would have been..."i've tried such and such to get wi-fi working and not having any luck". also, if you include the rom and specific technical information about your set up increases the likelihood of a direct answer.

Yes i was going to put more effete into it but I assumed that know one would replay and it was late at night
So for the SD it's trial and error then ??

That is what I've gathered from all the readings on the SD card issue in the various forums. I'm using Kingston 16GB SD, class 6 that I bought to speed things up a bit when I was still using WM6.5. Works fine for me, but I'm on Frantic's 7008 ROM.
I think SD issues are a combination of both the card itself and the tweaks of the various ROM cooks put into their individual versions other than the basic DFT port.

Thanks for the info. I was getting tired of having to switch my broadcast option at home to use wi-fi. I've installed it and we'll see if it works at home tonight considering I may need the NoDo update which isn't out for the HD2 yet.
Will report later.
Btw...HTC sent out an update for the Connection Setup tool on Marketplace this morning. Just in case this update fixes any issues I may run into with HTC Wi-Fi I would recommend people install the update.

Hi,
Im having problems with my HD2 signal. The problem is that it searches for my provider on startup for about 2 minutes and gets max 1 to 2 bars only on the second floor of my house, although when it has a connection it has 3G. Its mostly at no connection.
I have a second HD2 aswell and that is running okey even in the basement.
No warranty, so no point of suggesting that.
Ive flashed many differents roms and radios, didnt help.
Any suggestions I should try?
Where is the internal antenna located of this phone?
Thanks in advance!
try swopping sims to see ifs its the sim, assuming they are both on the same network
If not swop out the sim with one thats compatable
Naah, its not the problem of the sim, because one of the hd2 works perfect with my sim and the other doesnt with the same sim. So if the second one doesnt have a grudge against my sim then it should not be a problem of the Sim. Thanks for the advice although!
The question im quite interested at is where is the internal antenna of the HD2, I would like to check the connections.
It's a know problem with many HD2's i think some sort of bug in android. Switch to 2G network only in the settings and ull have full reception all the time.
Try to remove the battery over night, and then reflash with Radio-ROM and OS-ROM of your choice.
worked for me, no signal issues since I did this.
Soz, wrong theard :/

You can flash a different radio version just like you flash other stuff. Be careful and read the directions though because you can brick the device doing a radio flash.
Go to your phone settings and "about phone" and you should find your radio version. Most of us use 2.15.50.14.
Click here for the HTC HD2 Master Radio Thread
Read and find out what might be best to use for your carrier and or location. I used 2.15.50.14 because it was recommended by TMOUS users which I am. Some people test different radios and see which seems to work best for them.
-Edit-
The radio controls stuff like your carrier signal, bluetooth, wifi, etc.
thanks i updated to 2.15.50.14 but im still having this problem . idk what else to try
Having some trouble with that also. So, the steps are:
Reflash Radio, than android and see if it works?
If it doesn't, anybody knows the best Radio for brazilian carriers? (Mine is Oi Santa Catarina)
Thanx.

Have found that sometimes it helps to remove the battery from the phone for 30 seconds or so. After booting, wifi is back to normal.
If that doesnt work, a restart of the router (at least 10 sec without power) also have helped sometimes.
Good luck!
i have tried to remove the battery restarted the router. flashed new radio etc. i run android on it now

EDIT:
i have tryed flashing rom and radio again
This could very well be ROM/Kernel related you would most definitly get a much more specific answer if you were to post in the ROM thread. there is probably more than just you going through this same issue.
in the same vein as the post above, i recommend testing wifi with STOCK WM6.5 to eliminate the (community-made) ROMs (like android, WP7, etc) as possible contributors to the issue.
if you get the same problematic results with the STOCK WM6.5 ROM, then it very likely is a hardware issue. if things are fine with STOCK WM6.5, then do consider a different android build and/or post your findings in the relevant ROM thread so that the chef and users can look into your issue.
if it is a hardware issue, i have read several threads here which seem to indicate that an antenna cable might be loose. a strong indication that this cable is loose is that bluetooth also suffers from a significant drop in range (because wifi and bluetooth share the same antenna). these threads seem to indicate that fixing the cable is somewhat easily possible if you are comfortable with opening the device and fixing it yourself.

A very good advice IMO.
Also it may be a losen contact between wifi/bluetooth module and correspondent antenna: both cases imply to open your hd2..., after this point could be an easy fix!
Good luck!

One set of contacts is for wifi. Worked for my radio signal.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using xda premium
Hi everyone, i hope i'll find an answer cause i can't understand what's going on with my HD2 !
My hd2 keep losing signal, at first i taught it was a radio related thing, so i flashed a 2.12 radio (was on 2.15.40), but the problem is still there. So i decided to change the rom, cause the problem showed up after i installed a android sense rom (this one) i installed i miui stable rom, and still have it.
Here, i decided that the problem maybe came from my sim card so tried my wife's sim card (same operator) and another sim card (different operator) and it worked just fine, no losing signal at all.
So I've changed my sim card with a new one and the problem still occurs!!!!
Decided to flash a windows phone 7 rom, (just to be sure) and problem still there.
I can't understand what's wrong, i have this problem just with my sim card !!! any help please

Well, the problem can occuor from many sources. Older series of HD2 has a slight problem with reading some of the SIM cards. Did you tried to download and re-flash the radio rom into your hd2 because i have had the same problem with my HD2 as i have had O2 sim card which worked fine and 3G sim did not work well in my phone. I re-flashed the radio rom and it did work and i got the stable and normal signal, also you need to check if you use Android if MAGLDR 1.13 is also installed as this keeps the communication with Android ROM if you use NAND android. So let's try to download and re-flash the latest radio from here: http://www.multiupload.co.uk/QP0IWGY42F and flash it into your HD2 to see first if the problem occours. You can read about flashing your radio here:

If you still stuck with your phone, do not hesitate to PM me and i will find a solution for you.
Hi Iceman,
Thnx for your answer,
i did flash the lastest radio, magdlr is installed of course. Now i'm still on windows phone 7 and still have this problem. As i explained before, i have this problem only with my sim card even if i changed it with a new one. Other sim cards work's fine. However i'll give it a try with the link you give me and see if it changes anything.
Thank you again, and i'll get back to you soon
@ loupio
Please reply if the solution of Iceman helps.
Thanks
Nothing hlped i did every imagining solution but still have the problem
it could be caused by a hw problem (bent pins), if you are not scared to open your phone you should try the solution on this tread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1190180
Please let us know if it worked.
PS: Don't forget to say thanks!
All ready done that but the problem still there :s
I've noticed that when I hold the phone and put my hand over the bottom 2/3rds of the phone (where the antenna is) my signal drops by 2-3 bars. If I am in a location with poor reception and I hold my hand over the antenna, I will lose my signal altogether. Next time you are in a location that you think you should have a signal, but it drops, just hold the phone with your fingertips. Hopefully that will fix it.

I have similar experience and it's so disturbing
I wants to change a new sim card from my operator to eliminate the cause from my old sim card(>5 yrs.), because on my moto k1, the signal seems a little better in same condit.
I have the same issue however it hopefully was solved by the bent pin issue, i just did it now, before i would hold my phone and loose 2-3 bars, now i hold my phone with both hands and cant seem to lose any signal bars.
The problem is not loosing 2 or 3 bars my problem is that it loose's the network and show's 'no service' on the status bar. The network won't comeback till i do a reboot or activate/desactivate airplan mode
