Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone had experience or knowledge of complicated passwords affecting the ability to connect to wifi.
The issue is my password (as many) is long, contains uppercase, lowercase, numbers and symbols. I enter this password correctly and it says authenticating... but then fails and "disconnects" as it says on the phone.
Now I thought I had entered the password wrong so I briefly changed it to a simple string of letters, connected perfectly. Reverted back to old password, same problem. Password I enter is correct, I've even copy/pasted it to the entry box.
So do any symbols affect the ability of the hero to connect to wifi?
Thanks
except for you having to punch it in several times because it's kinda tricky it shouldn't make any difference. (well except if you're using WEP encryption and are using hex coded invisible characters like bell and such. but i think you'd be able to punch it in in hex as well.. but WEP is crap anyways.
some authentications are kind of tricky with the hero. i'd say 802.1x would be one of them..

Hi. This happened to me twice on my Dopod 900 so I'm guessing something is wrong here. I have a 128bit WEP enabled home WiFi network. The Dopod works well on this network but I was asked on two occasions to enter the WEP key again. I enter it and it works for a few days and then all of a sudden it is asked of me again... Anyone else seen this behavior? Any ways to avoid it? Thanks
You're not the only one.
The Universal loses my access points (completely disappears from the list) and wants to re-pair my Bluetooth devices (GPS and headset) (sometimes they are listed, sometimes they disappear from the list, too) every so often. I'm surprised no one else has talked about this either.
I've seen it also. If your universal seems unusually slow to connect ot the access point, you better have to stop it, or it will loose your access poitn info. After a soft reset, everything goes back to normal.
This behaviour is appening rarely though, and is not a major bug to me, as it only appens once every 100 connections. It can also depend on your access point.
I connect my o2 Exec with my own and four different customer's ADSL-router/gateway/WiFi devices and have not experienced this, even when a couple of weeks elapse between my site visits. I normally configure full WPA-PSK/TKIP encryption, MAC address restrictions and use DHCP allocated addresses. A VPN is then used to connect from the wireless side through another firewall to the internal network.
Is there any correlation between the WiFi routers that have given you all problems. I use various ZyXEL models.
Getting really strange... All of a sudden, I'm getting prompted for my Exchange password that I connect to 4Smartphone.net... It seemed to have forgotten the password?
WTF?!?
lose wep
same for me
So it is not only my ****ty non -updated sfr rom ;-)
Are you getting a NO GSM message on your boot screen and/or is your IMEI missing from the Device Information applet?
I'm trying to see if the two issues are related.
I got the NO GSM message, and from that point forward, I lost the pairing of my Bluetooth devices and the wireless access points.
My theory: Any passwords or authentications are encrypted using the IMEI of the phone portion. When the IMEI is not present (shows a blank under Device Information) due to the NO GSM issue, the Windows Mobile OS instantly wipes out those "invalid" passwords or authentications or simply invalidates them, causing you to reauthenticate the device to other devices.

I don't know if it is relevant, but in the last 10 days I've come up with the PHONE OFF display without any reason. When this happens the phonepad appears out of nowhere, instead of my carrier's logo, it says Phone Off and the 9000 freezes.
Only soft reset solves the problem No I didn't have any problems YET with the WEP keys in my wifi connections...
Should I be worried though???
I'm not getting a NO GSM message on my boot screen or my IMEI is missing not from the Device Information applet. Sorry for not being able to confirm your hunch. The only times this happened to me was when I was at an extreme edge of the WiFi coverage and signal was very low. I was flipping in & out of it and eventually the WEP key prompt popped up. Very strange. Moral of the story for the time being for me, stay near that AP... Oh by the way, its a Netgear for what its worth.
Save and Restore Wifi Settings
My understanding is if there is any problem connecting to Wifi, WM6 deletes the Wifi settings for that access point. I think my friends have come up with a quick solution to this problem. Wifi Hero is a little application you can get for $2 that saves and restores your wifi settings using standard Windows Mobile APIs. Search for "Wifi Hero" and you should find it or the direct link is http://www.wireless-apps.net/desc.php?d=d1&id=246823
The coders work for Implicit Software (www.ImplicitSoftware.com) if anyone is interested in a site licence for this tool you can contact them through their web page.
Have you guys tried going to start>settings>connections>wifi>power> and putting it at "best performance." I've heard of similar (also experienced) issues when the bar was at best battery.
it seems like this happened maybe after I started using my phone with my dsl router for internet via wifi. anyway, I believe the error message also says something about the #777 that the connection dials as if it's a problem. I'm assuming that has always been the number, so maybe the problem isn't the number (?). so now I can barely connect to the internet with my data connection.google maps comes up tho momentarily.
MY experience with this has been totally annoying! ! ! The single and ONLY BAD thing about this phone.
What I experience is that for some unknown reason the Imagio looses the password to the data connection, and therefore can't connect the data side. It remembers the user name ([email protected]) but looses the password.
The only solution Ihave found is to go to settings/connections/connections/manage existing and edit the connection and re-re-re-re-re-re-re-enter the password.
I changed the registry setting in HKLM\comm\connMgr\Providers\7c4b...blah\VerizonWireless\RequirePw to 0, but no joy
I also changed connections.xml to include the [email protected], AND password, and requirePw = 0 with no joy there either.
I use WiFi when I'm at home, and every time I leave home, I have to re-enter the password. This is totally annoying.
IF I leave the data connection on, it will remain connected, but if I disconnect, I will have to reenter the password. That sucks.
I'm using the stock MR2 ROM.
Oh, no help from VZW, they say it's some program I'm running. Yeah, right.
Like there's a piece of software or some game that I'm running that's going to change the data connection's password. Right, and I own swamp land in Florida too.
It's bad enough that I can't use a hard IP address on Wifi when at home because the CDMA data side will also try to use that hard address, so the only solution I found is to use DHCP on WiFi so it will also work on the CDMA side.
IF someone knows a way that I can have something enter the password even on a timed basis, I would be very happy.
Until then, every time I connect to the CDMA data side, I have to enter the password or get the damn ppp error, can't connect message.
Just sharing MY experience.....
so what's the password?
For verizon (which is what I know)

Hello everyone!
I have an HTC Wizard (Qtek A9100), with Windows Mobile 5. Some time ago I was able to access wireless networks without any problem, but recently I'm not getting it.
I tried to perform some procedures over the Internet without success, and for this reason the original problem gave rise to other problems, so I'll start with the problems I have now. Let's see ...
I have a wireless network in my house. This network is protected by a password (key) and this key has been defined by my local service provider. I would not change it, despite knowing how through my router settings. The key has 12 characters (letters and numbers only)
After turning on the wireless, the phone quickly detects my network, with strong signal and asks the network key. When I type 12 characters (case insensitive), the phone says that the network key is incorrect and should have 5, 10, 13 or 26 characters long, however, I had connected to my network and do not remember have had this problem. What am I doing wrong? Is there any setting that I do or check?
maybe you 'll find the answer on the same issue >>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=489771
This is not the problem... And now?

alright !!
have you tried to change the registry setting..??
if not already, look at these threads
I'll test the change later...
Thanks for the tip again. I've done the change on the setting. I'm at work now and here we do not have a wireless network. I'll test on my house.
Later I'll post here the results of the change.
Stay tuned Thank you very much!

1 problem solved! Now let's to the old ones...
Hello again.
The registry change has solved my problem with passwords. Now, on my house, i can connect to the wireless network, thank you.
However, the old problem (the biggest problem i guess) is back. I'll try to explain.
I have two browsers, Opera Mini (OM) and IE and i like to use the first one. After connect to the network, I'm trying to access www.google.com, but the OM says "this address is innacessible at now". Thinking this is a OM problem i tried to use the IE and there, the effect was the same but with no error message.
Now is the interesting thing: using the IP addresses, the sites loads, but incorrectly because some internal resources on them (images, etc) does not use IPs and so there are no images, because I have no access to resources by name, only IP.
This makes me think there are a DNS problem, but the DNS is set on the Wireless router and, for example, my Wireless laptop access everything without problem. So, the issue is on my A9100 in fact.
On my Router I've set the google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.8.4) and my computers access the Internet w/o problems by wire or not. Why my Qtek does not?
Now the question is: why my A9100 does not reach named addresses on the web, only by IP numbers?
Another day I got a message saying "not been possible to assign an IP address" for my device. Does this have something to do with the problem?
Hello, I'm in trouble with a brand new Optimus Hub (TIM branded) with Android 2.3.4.
I'm trying to make it connect to my home WiFi (WPA2, no SSID broadcast, 64 char password, Mac address whitelist).
I'm pretty sure I put the correct password and also tried turning SSID broadcast on, but it never connects to my network, without any error message.
This night I'll try different things (short password, no WPA and so on), but do you know of any issue about WiFi connections? Would a wrong password trigger an error message?
Any know LG update about this?
Thank you!!
You're on the right track. Don't forget to turn off the mac whitelist as well.
Still Charged Up
I found the password is the problem.
First: I have a 63 chars password, but OH only try to connect with at most 62 chars! Otherwise it not even tries to connect!
Second: there must be some char that it cannot handle properly (I suspect it to be space); with a simple password, it works, with the first 15 chars of my password it always says password wrong.
I'll try to find out what's the offending char, but I'll first check for an LG update to see if it fixes the problem.
Unfortunately there is no consistency in password implementation across vendors of phones OR networking gear. Even SSIDs are not standardized. I can use special characters in some equipment and not others. Everybody either thinks they know better or they can save a couple pennies. Glad you found the culprit.

I have a secured Wi-Fi network using WPA+PSK and WPA2+PSK (802.11g as it's written in my AccessPoint config).
Passphrase is quite complex: 17 characters only letters (both small and caps, only ASCII characters) and numbers. 17 is smaller than 63 (max-len).
Also I'm using MAC filter, configured to allow only registered MAC addresses.
I've register phone MAC address both in AccessPoint MAC filter and on my Linux server (DHCP config, hosts, fixed ARP table). It doesn't connect. No information connected to my phone (MAC address, IP or anything else in my DHCP server records in SysLog). Only a few info in my AccessPoint logs. There, if another device connected, there were two lines: "Station authenticated" followed by "Station associated", but in phone's case, these two lines were "Station authenticated" followed by "Station deauthenticated" (gap between these two lines on other device is less 1 second, but for my phone is more seconds, usualy more than 10 s).
If I force a netbook Wi-Fi card to have same MAC as my phone and with my phone Wi-Fi turned off, my netbook connects immediately, so the only cause I've think that remains was my phone cannot communicate with my AccessPoint.
Have anyone observed same sitiation ? Have someone any solution to try ?

I think you should try by removing MAC filter and see if it connects or not and even if it did'nt connect then try by connecting it to open connection. If it connects then you can add all other filters . If problem persists while using filters then your phone might not be properly configured. So try connecting it without filters and see what are the results.

With any security OFF (open connection) it connects. As I've put phone's MAC on another device (see original post) and this netbook connects, there seems no problem with MAC filter. In that case, only "WPA+PSK & WPA2+PSK" may be the problem. This Wi-Fi network must be secured (these role is not only for internet access, it includes file-sharing, print-services and other services that requires this security). AP log is so non-verbose (see original post), but I've cannot observe any network traffic from this phone after AP. Since only phone cannot connect to my Wi-Fi network, I think it's a problem with phone. Since I've check twice and the pass-phrase was entered correctly, this pass-phrase contains only ANSI letters (A-Z and a-z) and numbers (0-9), without any symbols like comma, full-stop, dash, underscore etc. and also without any regional extended characters, only length (17 chars) may be a cause.
Is there any bug recorded related Huawei Ascend G7-L01 phone in conjunction with Wi-Fi ?

I have not heard this kind of bug in Huawei Ascend G7-L01 but maybe there is some kinda problem in your phone, so I think you should try consulting the customer care services. As much I have read your post I think its quite complicated problem becausse if it connecting with open connections then it should also connect with secured connections like WPA 2 if credentials are entered correctly.

Entirely agree your logic. The phone was buyed with an abonament-contract from Vodafone Romania. Vodafone's shop has sent it to S.C. Cordon Electonics SRL (www [dot] cordongroup [dot] ro). According Cordon Electonics, "the phone is working in parameters based on producer (Huawei)". All I know is I've spent more than two weeks trying to connect it to my Wi-Fi secured network and also I've already used my entire internet quota for this month with software updates without any result.
From my oppinion, this phone could work well in a home Wi-Fi network, not in a business one, where are more services which required more security like in a home network.
