Looking for a Network Video Player - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

In VLC and most desktop video clients, the program allows you to browse the file system of a network share when attempting to open media of any sort, be it audio or video.
Does anyone know of a honeycomb app that can browse network shares and play videos contained within without a janky sync process or desktop client software to install? I heard about uPnPlayer, but its UI is far from tablet optimized.
Please don't tell me I'm the only one nerdy enough to have a streaming only video collection

Here's hoping touchwiz doesn't ruin honeycomb, then.

Instead of looking for a network video player look for a network file manager like ES FIle Manager. Go to the folder you want and open the video file. The default player will play it.

It should be noted that AllShare is a DLNA app and isn't exactly what the OP is talking about. This is probably the best solution though, imo.
In the meantime there are some applications that will do the same thing that AllShare does, albeit with a lot less flare:
uPnPlay - similar to AllShare. If you use this - download Rock Player. It has much better Codec support and uPnPlay will allow you to select your video player of choice.
ES File Explorer also has a built in video player that will play some codecs directly from a fileshare. You have to setup the share through ES File Explorer.
Hope this helps - if someone else has any better solutions than these - please share!! I would love to see how others achieve this.

I've been using Plex for my video streaming needs. Not exactly what your looking for but does a pretty good job for the time being. Www.plexapp.com

I use upnplay as stated above... it works...

My experience with Allshare is with the Epic 4G and it is crap really. You can't seek forward or backwards, and it's really limited on options, formats and features.
I wish Android has an app like "Air Video" on iOS. That app is killer.

try buzzplayer

UpnPlay is the easiest and best way to go.

Thanks! That doesn't play MKVs, is there one you know of that does?

Rock Player will play MKVs. Last time I used it to play an MKV it didn't parse any of the subtitles out, however. Worth a shot either way.

I too have a media server in my home. On my phone I just use V Player and enter in the URL to my server.... I haven't done anything on my tab yet. I imagine that would work... provided VPlayer is optimized for a tab. I haven't tried yet.

CorePlayer is working in andoid version but no release date on their tweeater...

i came from the n900 multimedia powerhouse tablet and this is like a full downgrade lol
in this category anyway
Hmmm this is a bit of a blow.... I was just looking at getting a Legend or maybe Desire but With no decent movie player it could be a non starter
Out of interest I notice that the Legend is similar specs to the HD - how does it compare? anyone had both.... I find the HD sluggish with later WinMo ROMs and Android to be honest.
Rockplayer Plays it all.....
Its in public beta for now.

yeah i was going to say what about rock player, its in public beta but it plays it all. might as well grab it while its free even if it is a tad bit buggy since its a beta. plus i'm pretty sure it plays everything, even divx
didn't rock player use armv7 ? when the legend support only armv6 :\

Rockplayer is working great on my legend so I would say no...
the new rockplayer public beta has support for armv6 / legend
Im glad there is a nice player finally no need to convert that much anymore saves a lot of time
I hope they update it and stays free

What will happen with Rockplayer if the public beta time is over..Anyone know something about this?
1. Will be blocked (unusable), except you pay for it (pay app)?
2. Continue as freeware and with tons of new updates?
I am in desperade of having a good FREE video player. ^o^

DLNA

Ok so I tried to do a little research and couldn't come up with much... I think our phones support dlna I'm just curious how to use it and what exactly we can use it for, sorry, I'm kinda noobish on this topic... Any feedback would be greatly appreciated...thank you in advance

It would be used to stream media content (videos, pictures, audio) to DLNA compatible home theater things. Such as displaying videos from your phone on your tv. No idea how it works, or if it even works for us currently.
The stock allshare app is a dlna app, I believe.

iMediaShare is an alternative app on the Market... works really well, if not better than AllShare. Both work "automatically" with Samsung wifi TV's which also is pretty cool You just click the available device and the app does the rest.

absolute best VIDEO player for honeycomb?

So far i have tried rockplayer and moboplayer....rockplayer had a lot of FC's because I don't think it was compatible, plus the video playback kinda sucked
I recently tried Moboplayer and it works great...even saves where you left of on multiple videos
is there anything better? Thank you
i swear by rock player, not an issue yet. Maybe try reinstalling? Other than that, what does it need to be able to play?

Mobo player doesn't dim (and by dim I mean turn them into small dots) the os buttons and time at the bottom, this is the sole reason I am considering uninstalling it, but I haven't found one to beat it yet.
Does it "dim" for anyone else?

I like the way control volume, brightness on moboplayer.
Feature-wise Moboplayer still has a lot of room for improvement. But in terms of codec support and performance (some stuff that wasn't smooth on other players played smooth as silk on Moboplayer), MoboPlayer is my favorite.

yea same here...its very neat
Mobo doesn't play very smoothly in software mode for 720p content... Unfortunately the Xoom doesn't playback enough formats natively so software mode is a necessity...
I swear by MoboPlayer as well, though sometimes I drop back to RockPlayer Lite just to see how it handles things. Love how Mobo remembers where you've left off regardless of how many movies/videos you've watched in between.
On the other side of the spectrum is mVideoPlayer, it has an awesome interface but only supports stock Xoom codecs. They recently updated to support sub/idx support for subs, but that whole stock codec only support kind of ruins it for me. I use this for any YouTube videos pulled w/ TubeMate.
I tested QQPlayer as well, it's not too bad but I was really searching for subtitle support so I could enjoy foreign flicks on the road. It didn't really offer much aside from srt support, but I figure I'll keep it in the hopes it'll see more development in terms of sub support (I believe it's developed in China or Korea, so sub support would have a higher priority).
any players allow you to make playlists? I like to fall asleep with a few episodes of stuff in the background
FWIW -- QQPlayer plays everything that I need it to play....
Vital Player is the best player on honeycomb I love you can turn the volume just using the screen.Same goes for brightness & full and widescreen.Vital Player updates regularly.

Q: HDMI mirroring on UNrooted Evo?

Has anyone found a way to successfully stream videos, more specifically Netflix, thru hdmi on a stock unrooted Evo? I can watch my own personal videos but not netflix. Sorry if this has already been posted.
Thanks in advance
Adventure...Excitement...A Jedi craves not these things.
hmmmmm. I personally don't have netflix. But I thought that when we plug it in, it should be able to mirror it right?
The only way for netflix to work that way would be to mirror it through fullhdmi. Only the native apps can mirror regularly but full mirroring needs root.
I Haz 3D!
I haven't done this yet, but I would try to just download the movie, convert the file to 3gp, then drop it into the same directory as the native app uses. Then play it using your phone as the movie player to the tv.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
what's a good program to convert to that format? I used to use handbrake but it doesn't work with the Evo. I've got a TON of movies I want to convert.
Try running a search for "3gp Converter" on the andriod market. Looks like MyView and TeteVideo can do the conversion. Remember, I haven't done this but this the route i'd go for trying to get it to work from my phone.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
anyone can do a search. But when it comes down to it. I want something that everyone else uses because it is great software.
The other thing that I was wanting was a program that could take my Digital copies from blue-rays and put them into a usable format to play on the evo that I can connect a HDMI cable to a tv with that I can output.
I'm in the spot ALL the time where no one has blueray players or good systems and my phone can output just fine. then again, I'm mainly just doing youtube videos. lol.
anyway, any hot ladies in here. I want to lay you down. :-D

You can try it but, it's going to look horrible in 3gp on TV from your phone without root and full mirroring.

Will *.AVI work on the native app if the file is dropped in the right folder?
I just download the AVI file (on my Phone) then burn to dvd or copy & paste to a laptop with an HDMI that can be connected to a TV.
I just use my phone when I am stuck somewhere like on a plane or airport. (using Rock Player Lite)

[GUIDE] CIFS Streaming fix/optimization

I use CIFS to stream video from my Windows server to my TF. Problem is that I never could get more than around 800-900KB/s even though my network is WIFI N and can push at least 2-3MB/s.
Here is a fix, using CifsManager, add under Options(eg. domain=android,ro)
directio
Now you can get around 2MB/s CIFS bandwidth. Just enough to stream high profile 720P h.264 vids and more. It really did make a huge difference on my TF. Hopefully it will help yours.
how do i add another to the options, i already got "iocharset=utf8" in my option field.
Just seperate the options with a comma....

Just an offtopic Q: what media player are you guys using on the android side?
I can sucessfully play stuff via UPNP with no hassle, but it omits .srt files and many of my DVD rips are subtitled and UPNP players omit the subtitles files.
I'd like to try streaming via CIFS - with the help of cifsmanager I can browse the shared file directories fine, open docs on the CIFS-shared drives etc, but when it comes to streaming moboplayer and several other random players can't seem to "find" the media files when I browse, using the player interface.
I'm looking to try different players and wondered what you guys were using to sucessfully stream movies from shared drives, with.

I use Diceplayer which can decode ac3 in software and h.264 in hardware as well as tons of other formats in hardware. Also use Vplayer since it can decode damn near everything. And I have Moboplayer for good measure. Diceplayer is amazing, only player that can can do 720P HD w/ac3.
I still haven't found a player that can handle 720p MKV with DTS. AC3? Sure. But not DTS. It takes too much power to decode it would seem.

We're clearly running different Transformers. DICE is only as fast as Tegra2 failware allows, and Tegra2 cannot process files with bitrate>2000, or crf<21. Which happens to be every single 720p mkv release ever made. (some, like bd based releases have bitrate of 9000).

Na, the problem is the decoding of the ac3 stream. Combine this with the cpu usage for the video decoding and 1000Mhz is not high enough for smooth playback.
I have no problem to play high Profile 720p videos with over 2000kbit and aac audio.
I don't want to hijack the thread, but i was wondering if the stock rom has the required cifs module needed for cifsmanager to run....
I'm asking because i have a rooted tf101 and when i try to run cifsmanager it says superuser permission denied....does that mean it's trying to get permission to something that isn't there aka the cifs module or is there something else wrong ??
I know i'm rooted because i just did the left speaker fix.
I've tried some other cifs connection programs too and i get the same error.
if it doesn't have what i need do i have to load a new rom that has the cifs module in it or can i just install the module
You probably need to read the logs; I know from exp that it works on Roach's Prime ROM's.
