So whats the solution? Hard-reset?
oh ya, i'm on the latest imate rom and radio
Did you install Resco Keyboard by any chance? Same happened to me when I installed that...
You did not say if you recently installed any new programs etc.. that might of caused it. Probably yes you will need to do a hard reset. Remember to backup favorites & start menu /windows (this will save you doing most reinstalls of programs on your storage card) and pim.vol (contacts/appts) in the root directory if you don't have them on your pc.
I can reset device this way in 30 mins or so
well, in the past 3 days i installed 6 or more apps, pocket streets, world mate, pocket sudoku, warfare inc, spacetime 2, wm torrent, and more. I wasn't gonna sit there and go through each app to figure out the culprit, so i just hard reset. but befoer the hard reset i did a restore from a spb backup i did earlier and it was acting all funny after the restore, every 30 secs or so it would make that sound when you first turn your device on, or right after you hard reset where it says "welcome to windows, tap screen to begin" or whatever.
Anyways, just hard reset and everythings good now..thanks for the help those who comented.
Hi, All
Had my touch about 3 weeks, everything has been great till now. Messaging (Email) suddenly stopped working, I can't open my email program, or text. It's just vanished. Any ideas? Tried reboot, (removed battery), even tried to restore with SPB which I installed yesterday and backed up. I'm new to this forum, but I know this is the best around for technical info. Thanks for any help.
Gary
Well, I can't imagine what caused it, but it sounds like you need to do a hard reset. That will get the device back to factory settings. You'll have to reload all of your stuff, first, and you'll want to backup your contacts.
When you're ready, while holding down the green and red buttons (Call and End), push the reset button with your stylus (it takes a bit of dexterity). You should be prompted to do a hard reset, and that should take care of the problem.
As for what caused it, i have no idea. Even if you could fix it somehow, you're still probably better off just reseting everything.
Thanks, Dave,
I guess I figured I would have to do that, but hoped I wouldn't. Between the SPB backup on my data card, and the customizations saved on my PC, I can get it back to where it was. I've spent hours and hours getting this thing exactly the way I wanted it, but that's life....
Gary
Sorry I missed this... may have been able to save you from hard reset. This happened to me once and if I reacall correctly it was an SD card issue. The cause... I had attachments going to the SD and the folder for the inbox disapeared. Why? No clue. Once I copied it back (from a backup) messaging started to work again.
There is another issue where the SD looks like it has been corrupted. All of the folder name look wacky and some are missing. I cant remember the exact sequence of events in my case but since deselecting "When available, use this storage card to store attachments" I have not had seen either problem.
fyi for the future.
Thanks for the info, SHWA311. I will check out that card issue. I did the hard reset, luckily had all my hacks and downloads saved, just took me a couple of hours to re-input my contacts. I tried everything to save them, but my only SPB backup was made after the problem, only didn't realize it.

you didn't have to hard reset... could have just deleted inbox folder on your sd card and mail/text program would start working again. i had the same issue before (as have many others).
Thanks varunb007,
I will file that under my "relax and wait for some more responses" memory bank!~

You guys are genious. I need serious help. First I have a services.exe error everytime I shut off or soft reset. Any one know what to do or if it even matters.
Second all this talk about running things and saving space. I need more memory saving. I don't have a clue what I really need and what I can get rid off to save oh ram. or hard drive memory too. Please tell me exactly what to do.
NExt on my HTC Imagio I want to run SBP mobile shell but I want to run TF3 too because I like the weather start up on it and I can't get to it with spb shell running someone talked about it but I can't figure out what to do based on what I read, I want to start up TF3 and then hit a button to go to shell. ANy one know how to do itl Also I have Pocket Mechanic and all kinds of tools but not SK Tools. I have Vitual Espolorer cuz I thought that would help me ID files but now that I can ID them I doh't know what I need and what I don;t. If I get SK Tools will it help me know what to do. Nothing comes with a manual anynmore. I need a detailed manual for the phone and how it works not what it does. Can anyone answer these with esplicit directions cuz I don;t know a .dll from anything else. I only know that an exe runs something, So Im really dumb about all this. ANyone know how to help. It 2:30 AM and I;ve been up all night for a week trying to figure out things on this phone. So far I like it a lot but the more I add the slower I get and I might want to add more. HELP!!!!!! Going crazy.....
OK, that's a whole lot for anyone to try to process. First things first, what's your biggest problem? The best way to get help is to knock down the issues one at a time.
The first problem is I have a services.exe error every time I turn the phone on after it's been off or any time I reset it. That's first
Based on a little Googling, it looks like the only fix for a services.exe error is a hard reset. I pasted the info on a hard reset below for you:
This will wipe all data off the phone and restore factory default settings.
1. While the phone is off, press and hold Volume Down + Talk/Send + End/Power.
2. When the device displays a message about wiping the data, release all 3 buttons.
3. Press Volume Up to complete the hard reset.
If I move all my programs I installed to my card I won't really loose anything right.,

I don't know what programs you are trying to move, listen, just forget moving programs, back up or your files via myphone or use activesync to store everything you want on your computer. When you perform a hard reset either by the method listed or by going to Start->settings->all settings->system->memory then selecting clear storage tab, letting win mo come back up and customize then before you do anything when it restarts, hard reset again, for some reason this helps the functionality of native software. Then immediately take care of the tv icon, proxy mem. tweak, and nopifix. Then what ever you need to install try to install to your sd card via downloading from this xda site for cab files or doing a little google searching rather than installing directly from market place. EXCEPTION: DO NOT INSTALL TWEAKS TO SD CARD OR ITEMS THAT ROTATE THE SCREEN. Keep all the cab files on your pc or on your storage card so that you have them whenever you decide to hard reset or flash your device. Enjoy your imagio thing only become easier the more you use and play.
I must not have my activcesnyc set up right because the only thing it backsup is my contacts, email, journal and a file folder full of what ever I want to but in that folder but thats snyc with my docs on my devic and I don't want to over load it. When I had a palm it used to back everythng up to a file on my computr and I could just reinstall but this windows stuff doesn't seem to do it. How do I set up active sync to sync everythi ng on my devide and card to back up to my computer.? Ans I don't have a clue what you were talking aabout when you said take care of your tv and those other files, not a clue. I have mobil shell on my phone is that what your taling about not having on the phoen. You need to talk like your talking to a 12 year old when your explaining this stuff to me. Thanks. L

Hey you said something about getting rid of the tv icon and other stuff after a hard reset, but never explained in detail. plz help, thx
After weeks of zero issues (aside from memory leak), I just got a barrage of services.exe errors this morning. Phone was throwing error after error even after a soft reset. After three soft resets it's finally working now (after another services.exe error). I didn't make a single change to my configuration though so I'm a big perplexed as to why these just started showing up now. I was really starting to get content with my Imagio too...sigh.
Hello everyone...
Brand spanking new on here.
Been a keen watcher for a while...but i'm just not clever enough to join in with all the tech stuff !
However...i'm now at breaking point...
I've had the HD2 from O2 since the launch date, and find it unbelievably annoying...although i really do try to 'love it' so, so much !!!
Can someone please help with a few questions that i'm desperate for answers for ?
1. My internal memory just seems to 'seep' memory, by the day. I've no apps, a handful of photos and haven't messed with it. I clear the opera and Explorer caches and history every day.
I've now resorted to doing a system reset ( hard ), about every 6 weeks...and you know how annoying that is, when i have to reset EVERYTHING !!!
2. I regularly 'Sync' my phone via the Windows Device Centre on my desktop. After every 'upload sync' ( see above ), all my 'Windows Live' contacts drop into my 'Contacts' list, as though they're seperate contacts ? I have to go in and delete them all ! All these details are already contained within my 'Contacts' files anyway !
3. Is it correct, that after every system reset ( hard ), all my email settings ( and Windows Live contacts, come to that ? ) aren't saved upon sync-ing ? I have to manually go in and reset them, every time at the moment ?
4. When in Windows Live, i haven't got the ability to open hyperlinks, sent to me via Messenger ? They don't ever show up in 'blue' ? Is this right ?
I'm presuming i'm doing something wrong here ?
Apologies for droning on...especially in my very first post !
Please help me 'love' this phone a little more !
Please bear in mind, my 3rd paragraph on here, if you feel you can assist ?
I'm not sure why you would need to do a hard reset just to reclaim RAM but you could simplify the process by using software such as SPB Backup to take a full backup of your phone which could be restored after the reset. This would save you the hassle of having to set everything up from scratch.
However, it sounds like you might have some other problem if you are consistently running out of memory over time. Is it possible that you've installed an application that is running in the background and using too much memory? Have you tried a soft reset to see if that clears your memory?
Many thanks for your reply Jakem...
I've tried doing a soft reset and it's freed up a grand total of 1MB...i'm now roaring away with a whole 7MB of internal storage !!!
Can i just clarify that this SPB Back-Up, is a direct equivalent / improvement / superior option to the Windows Device Centre, for backing up my required info ?
Sorry for being a bit dense, but is it a 'Marketplace' app ?
Ive read about moving other caches onto my 2GB storage card, but surely, with my particular problem, it'll only fill the space up again ?
I'm lost !
I think jakem has got your issue mixed up.
He is talking about RAM, whereas you seem to be talking about ROM memory.
There are a few cabs on this forum which transfer the album cache and Opera cache to the memory card (although you have mentioned you use the album very little, and clear Opera/IE regularly)
I have a program called PMclean, have a search for it in google, this seems to clear a lot of crap that is hidden from view.
Many thanks rp...
Has anyone got any, slightly more 'direct' answers to my problem ???
I'm all ears !
Are you sure that you always store your photos (in the camera settings), Footprints (move manually to SD) and mail attachements (Email, Inbox, Menu, Extras, Settings, Storage, Store Attachements on SD) to SDCard?
Just to give you an idea: 1 Photo (5MP) --> 2MB --> 75 Photos = Memory Full

Read this thread...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638 and move your caches to the SD card. Also find and install one of the task managers to ensure that when you finish using a programme it is closed properly and not minimised in memory

Not necessary if you act as indicated above.

I have always had issues with syncing data and contacts this way. If all you are looking for is a regular backup of your data, for safety purposes, then buy and install SPB Backup. Job done.
3. Is it correct, that after every system reset ( hard ), all my email settings ( and Windows Live contacts, come to that ? ) aren't saved upon sync-ing ? I have to manually go in and reset them, every time at the moment ?
System/hard reset, as opposed to a soft reset, will delete all of your data off your device and you will have to reinstall from scratch. Again if you take the advice above you should not need to do this.
4. When in Windows Live, i haven't got the ability to open hyperlinks, sent to me via Messenger ? They don't ever show up in 'blue' ? Is this right ?
Don't know, don't use windows live.

You asked for direct answers to your questions above so I will give it a go (see bold items above).
Take your time to go through the hints and tips thread I referred you to. Should help with some of your problems.
Need any further help, come back.

As far as I can tell, windows live only does a one way merge from windows live to your phone, so your windows live contacts go into your phone, but phone contacts don't go up into windows live, and they don't merge very well so you get all the duplicate nonsense.
The way I do my contacts is to turn off the merge/sync option in windows live, then use outlook and WMDC/activesync to edit/sort the contacts. When it's in the state I want, I'll run the "myphone" app to create a backup of them and manage through the myphone web portal.
As regards the free space thing; if it's storage memory you're running low on, as recommended above, you should switch as much as you can to save on the storage card. If you have lots of email, then that might be a cause... as well as photos or whatever, so look in the account settings for that option too. If it's program memory, I've no idea without being able to look at what's running, etc!
I also have an O2 HD2, though I do recommend updating the rom to the latest HTC rom, as mine came with 1.43, and the newest HTC one is rather better. You'll have to make a "gold card" or use hardspl to install it though, unless O2 release an approved version. (I read in another thread one was promised for the end of March and it failed to materialise).
It's my birthday and the day of a big problem. So please assist ;-)
Been transfering movie files from PC to Tab via USB/MTP. The process was going fine until the last file to be copied. Then Tab lost connection. Reconnected the cable. Tried to copy the last file. Then Tab hung. Absolutely.
I disconnected USB cable and rebooted the TAB. It showed the Samsung animation, then "samsung" title, some gargabe at the bottom of the screen and .. that last forever.
Well, rebooted once again. Same situation, but screem garbage moved to top.
Well, 3rd reboot and .. whoa, eventually it booted!
But ... it asked me to introduce myself (e.g. enter e-mail, ...) and enter Google prefeences (just like with a fresh new tab). Skipped it (Hacker's keyboard was already not working - couldn't type in).
Then the desktop arrived. My God, it's absolutely brand new. All my settings and icons disappeared.
Went to Applications - they all seem to survive. But don't work. Almost all of them crash when you start them. Some very simple and built-in apps work though.
The Contacts disappear as well. Just like E-mail.
Remember I started this message with that I was transferring files? Well, they're not visible. Even their new folder is missing. But the storage is used exactly to the size of those files. All 10Gb. I tried to delete its parent folder (say, "/sdcard/Movies"). Free storage barely changed (only for the size of existing files).
Well, it's ruined. My lovely and so customized Tab. Damn.
So the very dumb questions are:
- What's that? Broken filesystem? How came? How to check/fix?
- How to save app settings (that's ALOT, include data for my kids' paid games)?
- Where Touch Wiz and other settings actually stored? I suspect there must be a system database (saw an error from "SQlite" when FBReader crashed).
Well, I could wipe everything, but not sure it would solve the filesystem problem and would take muuuuuuuuch time. And we don't have ICS rolled out for Russia yet, so that would be a very time wasting process.
p.s. Titanium backup doesn't start too. Moreover, everytime I install something it crashes again ;-)
You might try setting up your gmail account, the initial thing that you skipped. I'm just guessing, but perhaps you need the account active to use apps that might be linked to your account on the market.
Also, again, this is just a guess, but if your movies are DRM protected, is it possible you can't access because it thinks you are a different user?
Just some thoughts. Quite possibly useless, but maybe worth a shot. Good luck!
Later,
Jason
Go to settings/ apps and force stop Samsung Media Scanner... Worked on mine a while back, hopefully that will fix the problem for you... Good luck!

Something very similar happened to me when I was trying to watch a movie off of an sd card with the adapter. I ended up having to re-flash a stock image through Odin and re tweak everything (Rom, re-download apps...everything. Sucks that I lost all my progress in games etc. but it made me re-evaluate what apps I really used and needed so now it's running faster and smoother than ever. I even decided against using pershoot's overclocking kernel (for now) as everything feels so fresh and so clean, and it seems unnecessary.

Something got corrupted. It could have been app databases like you suggest. Sounds pretty reasonable. I hate to say it but you may want to hard reset and see if the issue persist. If it does persist after a hard reset then you have a defective device
Do you have a nandroid backup of your setup?
