can't restore back up

im using sprite back up, and it keeps failing when i restore.
can anyone recommend something better?

SPB seems to work fine, provided you install it on the device and not the PC card. What is annoying is that there is no error message when you run it off the SD card, it just doesn't restore properly. It seems to work fine otherwise. I use it pretty much because I create a backup before installing software, then if I don't like it, I do a hard reset and restore from the backup, so I use it pretty often.
It has one other feature worth noting. If I need to roll back several days, I can install the settings from that time, then the files and calendar items from a more recent backup. That way, only settings changed in the last few days are lost.
I back up to the SD card but periodically, and manually, move the old backups to my PC. SPB automatically makes a backup every night (stored on the SD card) and keeps the most recent three nights' worth.
Still, I learned the hard way that it won't run off the SD card properly, and had to rebuild the device. (I did get files and PIM items, though.) The silver lining was that I used the opportunity to upgrade my ROM.

spb hangs on me, during start up.
it just stays frozen on the today screen...

That happened to me,
Did you have the program installed on the SD card?
There was a bug, allegedly fixed now, that caused it to restart another backup after making a backup. This could be interrupted.
You might try version 1.5 that just came out, but others like Sprite. I didn't like Sprite because it had conniptions over the fact that I sync with two pcs.

messaging wont open help!!!

I have the htc touch by verizon, and all of the sudden my messaging quit working. when I go to email or text it does nothing, won't open when I run the .exe in total commander, no other processes are running, no mods done. this is the second time this has happened and its getting annoying, any help would be awesome

soft-reset? how did u get it to work the first time?

the way I got it working the first time was, I did a hard hard reset, meaning I had to call verizon n get a 26 digit number for the phone to be authorised. I've done soft reset, and pulled the battey out, uninstalled every program, still to no avail

I had the same problem a couple of weeks before. I did everything: restore previous setting from SKTools, soft reset, ... Eventually I had to do a hard reset and reinstall everything. I don't know why it quit working like that.

Go into your storage card.
Delete the folder "inboxxxxxxxx." The xxxxx are a bunch of letters and numbers.
You should be good after that.

wombat, that is the correct fix, i found it a few days ago, just havent had time to post it, you delete the inboxxxxxxxx folder, mine is on my storage card, and then it will work fine...thanks for all your help guys!

You guys are genious. I need serious help. First I have a services.exe error everytime I shut off or soft reset. Any one know what to do or if it even matters.
Second all this talk about running things and saving space. I need more memory saving. I don't have a clue what I really need and what I can get rid off to save oh ram. or hard drive memory too. Please tell me exactly what to do.
NExt on my HTC Imagio I want to run SBP mobile shell but I want to run TF3 too because I like the weather start up on it and I can't get to it with spb shell running someone talked about it but I can't figure out what to do based on what I read, I want to start up TF3 and then hit a button to go to shell. ANy one know how to do itl Also I have Pocket Mechanic and all kinds of tools but not SK Tools. I have Vitual Espolorer cuz I thought that would help me ID files but now that I can ID them I doh't know what I need and what I don;t. If I get SK Tools will it help me know what to do. Nothing comes with a manual anynmore. I need a detailed manual for the phone and how it works not what it does. Can anyone answer these with esplicit directions cuz I don;t know a .dll from anything else. I only know that an exe runs something, So Im really dumb about all this. ANyone know how to help. It 2:30 AM and I;ve been up all night for a week trying to figure out things on this phone. So far I like it a lot but the more I add the slower I get and I might want to add more. HELP!!!!!! Based on a little Googling, it looks like the only fix for a services.exe error is a hard reset. I pasted the info on a hard reset below for you:
This will wipe all data off the phone and restore factory default settings.
1. While the phone is off, press and hold Volume Down + Talk/Send + End/Power.
2. When the device displays a message about wiping the data, release all 3 buttons.
3. Press Volume Up to complete the hard reset.

If I move all my programs I installed to my card I won't really loose anything right.,

I don't know what programs you are trying to move, listen, just forget moving programs, back up or your files via myphone or use activesync to store everything you want on your computer. When you perform a hard reset either by the method listed or by going to Start->settings->all settings->system->memory then selecting clear storage tab, letting win mo come back up and customize then before you do anything when it restarts, hard reset again, for some reason this helps the functionality of native software. Then immediately take care of the tv icon, proxy mem. tweak, and nopifix. Then what ever you need to install try to install to your sd card via downloading from this xda site for cab files or doing a little google searching rather than installing directly from market place. EXCEPTION: DO NOT INSTALL TWEAKS TO SD CARD OR ITEMS THAT ROTATE THE SCREEN. Keep all the cab files on your pc or on your storage card so that you have them whenever you decide to hard reset or flash your device. Enjoy your imagio thing only become easier the more you use and play.

I must not have my activcesnyc set up right because the only thing it backsup is my contacts, email, journal and a file folder full of what ever I want to but in that folder but thats snyc with my docs on my devic and I don't want to over load it. When I had a palm it used to back everythng up to a file on my computr and I could just reinstall but this windows stuff doesn't seem to do it. How do I set up active sync to sync everythi ng on my devide and card to back up to my computer.? Ans I don't have a clue what you were talking aabout when you said take care of your tv and those other files, not a clue. I have mobil shell on my phone is that what your taling about not having on the phoen. You need to talk like your talking to a 12 year old when your explaining this stuff to me. Thanks. L

Hey you said something about getting rid of the tv icon and other stuff after a hard reset, but never explained in detail. plz help, thx

After weeks of zero issues (aside from memory leak), I just got a barrage of services.exe errors this morning. Phone was throwing error after error even after a soft reset. After three soft resets it's finally working now (after another services.exe error). I didn't make a single change to my configuration though so I'm a big perplexed as to why these just started showing up now. I was really starting to get content with my Imagio too...sigh.

Yesterday phone was on charging and it's showing the S2U2 charging and I picked up and unlocked and it started showing this error on running any software and even not running startup programs and services. Even it's not getting phone calls except SMS.
I didn't changed/configured or installed any software or any configuration in it for about a month and no possibility of doing anything wrong. It just created this problem in my hands in a minute.
I searched around forum and already tried two of the registry fixes but nothing.
I can hard reset easily but I don't want to loose my Contacts/Address book. If there can be possibility to backup contacts I'll Hard Reset it. I can connect through Active Sync and I can edit registry through CERegEditor.

you need to install SdkCerts to sign the file/s you're using to make it/them eligible to be installed on the device. It's just like a consent from the developers for their OEM softwares to their users. To make the device accepts the file/s, the SDKCert have to be installed on the device for key matching purposes....
used PIM Backup to backup/restore the Personal information of the Pocket PC like Contacts, Appointments, Tasks etc.

One thing I want to tell you, it just started suddenly and before this problem all programs are running smoothly without any signing etc. Currently it's running only few software i.e. File Explorer, Solitaire and few more and it's not shows error even in Calculator, Contacts and other built-in programs.
I can't understand wht's the difference in Calculator and Solitaire one is running other not.

This indicates that there is one of the files(dll file) needed for the process of loading the program is gone (may be erased) ! My advice, hard reset your device back to factory default settings but first make a backup

Now that is the point, how can I make backup. I only need contacts nothing else.
It's getting worse day by day, now it's not even starting, stuck at T-Mobile splash and stays there. I tried taking out SD card, SIM etc. but I couldn't able to boot it.

Hakim sb, thanks for your suggestion. That's already in consideration but 1st I want to have backup of address book.
Do you know way to get backup of address book.

Thanx again for you assistance. Earlier before making any registry changes through PC it was atleast starting and accessible through PC and I had chance to copy contacts file wherever it's located but now it's not starting at all, hangs at T-Mobile splash screen.
Is there any way to read memory and copy/backup contacts file through PC or any other way.

[Q] MTP ruined 3.2

It's my birthday and the day of a big problem. So please assist ;-)
Been transfering movie files from PC to Tab via USB/MTP. The process was going fine until the last file to be copied. Then Tab lost connection. Reconnected the cable. Tried to copy the last file. Then Tab hung. Absolutely.
I disconnected USB cable and rebooted the TAB. It showed the Samsung animation, then "samsung" title, some gargabe at the bottom of the screen and .. that last forever.
Well, rebooted once again. Same situation, but screem garbage moved to top.
Well, 3rd reboot and .. whoa, eventually it booted!
But ... it asked me to introduce myself (e.g. enter e-mail, ...) and enter Google prefeences (just like with a fresh new tab). Skipped it (Hacker's keyboard was already not working - couldn't type in).
Then the desktop arrived. My God, it's absolutely brand new. All my settings and icons disappeared.
Went to Applications - they all seem to survive. But don't work. Almost all of them crash when you start them. Some very simple and built-in apps work though.
The Contacts disappear as well. Just like E-mail.
Remember I started this message with that I was transferring files? Well, they're not visible. Even their new folder is missing. But the storage is used exactly to the size of those files. All 10Gb. I tried to delete its parent folder (say, "/sdcard/Movies"). Free storage barely changed (only for the size of existing files).
Well, it's ruined. My lovely and so customized Tab. Damn.
So the very dumb questions are:
- What's that? Broken filesystem? How came? How to check/fix?
- How to save app settings (that's ALOT, include data for my kids' paid games)?
- Where Touch Wiz and other settings actually stored? I suspect there must be a system database (saw an error from "SQlite" when FBReader crashed).
Well, I could wipe everything, but not sure it would solve the filesystem problem and would take muuuuuuuuch time. And we don't have ICS rolled out for Russia yet, so that would be a very time wasting process.
p.s. Titanium backup doesn't start too. Moreover, everytime I install something it crashes again ;-)

You might try setting up your gmail account, the initial thing that you skipped. I'm just guessing, but perhaps you need the account active to use apps that might be linked to your account on the market.
Also, again, this is just a guess, but if your movies are DRM protected, is it possible you can't access because it thinks you are a different user?
Just some thoughts. Quite possibly useless, but maybe worth a shot. Good luck!

Go to settings/ apps and force stop Samsung Media Scanner... Worked on mine a while back, hopefully that will fix the problem for you... Good luck!

Something very similar happened to me when I was trying to watch a movie off of an sd card with the adapter. I ended up having to re-flash a stock image through Odin and re tweak everything (Rom, re-download apps...everything. Sucks that I lost all my progress in games etc. but it made me re-evaluate what apps I really used and needed so now it's running faster and smoother than ever. I even decided against using pershoot's overclocking kernel (for now) as everything feels so fresh and so clean, and it seems unnecessary.

Something got corrupted. It could have been app databases like you suggest. Sounds pretty reasonable. I hate to say it but you may want to hard reset and see if the issue persist. If it does persist after a hard reset then you have a defective device

Do you have a nandroid backup of your setup?
