[Q] Hibernate/Standby Mode - Eee Pad Transformer General

Is it possible to have a Hibernate/Standby mode on the Transformer? Not just a screen off setting. I am used to putting my netbook into standby, hitting a key, and everything ready to use within a few seconds.
With the current screen off setting, the wireless stays on, I stay visible on gTalk and messages end up going to my Transformer instead of my phone. Also, I would think battery life would be increased.

I would check your settings as my wifi disconnects when screen off
settings located
Wireless & Networks
Wifi Settings
Wifi Disconnection policy
mines set to When screen turns off
Not sure about Hibernate state on android at all others may know

Did not know that. I had just been turning wifi off because I noticed that even withe the screen off it was draining the battery faster with with with wifi enabled.

Keeping WiFi alive doesn't work anymore!

I set up the WiFi standby rules to "never", so wifi should be always on even when my device is in standby mode.
This worked very good at the beginning, but since some days WiFi is NOT kept alive. As soon as the device is going into sleep mode i will lose WiFi connection. The WiFi standbye rule is still correctly set to "never".
Thats really lame because i use locale to update my RSS Feeds at home over WiFi on certain time slots. But i get no updates since wifi is not active when the device is sleeping.
Anybody an idea what the problem is? As i said it worked for 2 weeks and suddenly its not working anymore.
Won't that drain the battery to Kingdom Come if you do leave it on on standby? I used to do that on the Tytn II I used to have, and the battery died after 2 hours!

well i wouldn't say 2 hours, should be more than that. But i'm only activating wifi at home, and at nights my device is plugged to ac adaptor. So battery is not an issue in my case, and i want to use the better bandwidth at home. I just dont know why is suddenly stopped working...
Settings > Wireless controls > Wi-Fi Settings > Menu > Advanced > Wi-Fi sleep policy. When finished press Menu and then Save. Done.
The "Menu Button to save" Hint did it! thanks!
I always chose the option, but forgot to save via menu button and pressed the back button.
The strange thing here is: when i was coming back to this menu later it would still show the correct setting (WiFi always on), even though i hadn't saved it via menu button. But it wouldn't work, because wifi would be deactivated.
The back button will save your last selection, but won't activate the option!
This is really one of Androids problems: you just don't have one standard way of interacting with the system on many levels. Sometimes "back" button is enough (or the only way) to store your data, other times you have to press hardware buttons to save...
hmm the problem seems to be elsewhere: today in the morning the connection was lost again when i took the phone out of sleep mode. i could see the wifi icon, but the apps couldnt connect to the net (my rss feeds hadn't been updated).
Seems like each time i deactivate wifi manually (when leaving home) the wifi rules settings will be lost, and i have to change the wifi rules again and save the settings. Otherwise wifi won't be kept alive...that's really annoying.
maybe i have to download the "keep wifi alive" app after all from the market...
What make and model is your AP?
it's a netgear router, i will check the exact model today and post it here.
hmm i forgot to check the model, but i changed my router settings yesterday.
the router was set to disconnect after 60 minutes, when the connected device is not using the connection.
i changed that, so the connection is not reset at all, but still as soon as my device goes to sleep mode the wifi connection is basically dead.
After taking the phone out of sleep mode, i can see the "wifi connected" icon still there, but no app has any internet connection.

Wifi wont turn off in sleep mode

Hi Guys,
I got my HD2 today and i have to say i am impressed!
I only have one problem which i am not able to resolve.
When i turn on WiFi, it wont turn off during sleep mode (when i turn off the screen). i need to manually turn it on or off. this is how it came out of the box.
I wonder if other HD2 users are having the same problem / found a solution?
I tried advanced config tool, and i unchecked the "wifi during sleepmode" setting, but after each reboot the settings just come back.
Any help would be appreciated.
Hi mate, you should look this

I thought that guy just want to keep WIFI on but you did.
thanks man but it does not help me with my problem. I cant seem to be able to get WiFi to auto turn off when in standby. the reg tweak will work until you reboot the device. after reboot the WiFi again won't turn off when in sleep mode unless I manually turn it off.
Bump.
Can any other HD2 owner please confirm if this is happening on his device too?
Same problem.
HDtweak and AdvanConfig does not work. After soft reset, wifi-on-standby is back ON (checked).
Been trying to find a Auto-Disconnect for GPRS(HSDPA) but the above 2 apps does not work too.
have you tried to change wifi power settings to high? I think it does work then. I guess the medium setting is something special...it keeps the wifi connection alive in standby, but also doesn't consume much power. I have an exchange connection active, so i always need an internet connection. The moment i turn on wifi at home, it stays on, even in standby, and my data connection over 3G disconnects. My exchange still works perfectly...and no huge power drain! My wifi power setting is on the medium setting...
Yes, I can confirm I'm encountering this issue too - on my HD2.
Strange, 'cos I wasn't at first, I'm sure - I remember the wi-fi notification icon flashing when resuming from sleep.
glenner05, can you confirm that you can get wi-fi to sleep please?
Hmm.. thought it might be connected to the htckeepwifionwhenunattended registry value but mine's set already to 0.
There're others trying to do the opposite!

Anyone else found a solution?
I think HTC made this by design. If you turn GPRS data off and leave Wifi on while in standby you will be surprised how low the power utilization is.
I tested and with GPRS data off and Wifi ON, in standby you lose about 2% battery per hour...that's nothing.
It seems that on the HD2 the Wifi power consumption is really optimized so no real need to turn

Mine is on default Wi-Fi settings and when it goes into standby, wi-fi goes off.
Paul
Yeah goes of in sleep mode, if you get wifi toggle, you can choose to keep it on or turn it off when you like .
Shame the grps is still a problem....
pgamble and jrvenge: you really mean wifi switches off on the device when it goes to sleep? Ie. you see it disconnect from your router or something?
jrvenge: what did you mean by, "if you get wifi toggle"?
clubtech: when I read your post I agreed with you, maybe. I can't now be certain I remembered correctly that I'd seen wifi reconnect. And yes, the power consumption does seem low
There is a cab floating about here that enables you to force the wifi on always or turn it off.
If you forc on it stays on, if you turn of it goes off.
Return to normal and the hd2 does its power saving thing, so im all sorted there, just need a timeout on the gprs now.
If you cant find it let me know. It works a treat.
can youplease post the cab ? I have been looking for something like this .
Sure pm me your mail and i will send it
GPRS Disconnecting software here fella's, tested and working on my HD2 100%
May also turn off wifi but i've not loked yet, just about to leave for work so will check later!! lol

Ok just tried and it does not do what we want with WiFi
Yes ... if device goes to standby, when it comes out .. you see wi-fi searching to connect again ... so it definitely disconnects and the reconnects when it comes on again.
Paul.
Yup your right!
If it's in balanced or best battery mode then it turns off in standby and reconnects/searches again when you press a button to bring up the lock screen.

wifi keep on disconnected after few minutes

my wifi connection always drops after few minutes and then it tries to authenticate again. this happens when i left the phone idle for <3 mins or so and sometimes less. when it tries to aunthenticates back, it takes a longer time than just simply turning off and turning on the wifi back again to get connected.
is this an error or its just the way the phone is? i'd like to keep my wifi connected during some heavy downloads and be able to leave the phone lying somewhere while its downloading..
explainations and help needed..
you not using any power manager apps that turn of the wireless after the screen switches off when left idle ?
And what about wifi sleep policy? But there is problem for me too. I turn it off, but when i disable wifi, and turn it on again, wifi sleep policy settings are again at 15minutes.

i'm using Advanced task killer and Android booster on my phone to kill running apps. however, i did not used them to manage my power consumption. i have not done any settings regarding wifi connectivity on both those apps. But could both these apps be responsible?

my wifi sleep policy setting is set to Never by default. Could it be my router whose causing this issue?

Tethering fast while display on, slow while display of

Hey guys,
i have a weird problem. I'm depending on the wifi from my neighbour atm (he gave me the key - everything legit ) and i tether it via my Desire HD to my PC. But there's this strange behaviour i discovered: When the Display is turned on, i get a ping of about 30ms. When the Display turns of it rises to about 600-800ms.
I have a rooted DHD with Cyanogenmod 7.0.2.
I tried to fix the CPU speed to 1GHz - Performance with SetCPU but it didn't help and i set the wifi connection not to go in standby whilst the display is off.
Does anyone have an idea about this?
Jack
It seems that some of the DHD's Hardware does go into standby although you disabled a few options.
Maybe this could be solved with another kernel, but i guess you would have a higher battery drain then, even without tethering.
Why don't you just leave the screen on? Start its desktop clock and it'll be a nice gadget on your desk

Hi Jack,
I have a base rom or whatever it is called. I have the same problems. I tether using my 3G connection. When the device display is turned off, the tethering has speed issue, while it is turned on, tethering works fine. I haven't found a solution yet. i just keep my display on, since its connected to pc, it will be in charging state.
Regards,
HD
Hey guys,
thanks for your replys, the best idea would pobably be (for now) to leave the phone in "desktop-clock-mode".
Thanks for your Help
Not a fix but a work-around...
Since I guessing the phone is connected to the PC, could you not set the phone to not sleep when charging (menu -> settings -> Applications -> Development -> Tick "Stay Awake")? That way the screen will stay on when ever it's charging be it mains or via USB
(EDIT: Appreciate you get this using desktop clock but this saves having to mess about every time.)
Change your wifi power saving options. The behavior you get is default, to save battery life. It's under the advanced settings in the Wifi settings, IIRC.

If you're talking about the sleep policy the OP says he's done that already.
Changing the sleep polici doesn't do it
Thanks for the hint with the display staying on while charging!

[Q] Wifi doesn't want to be turned off

Hi
I recently noticed that my battery life has been better then recent days
I opened up the battery screen and found out that it shows as if the wifi is always turned on (picture attached)
Doubled checked that the wifi symbol is grey + checked the wifi section on the phones' settings
Have any idea what can cause the problem?
Thank you
Open wifi settings/ menu /advanced settings/ and check the wifi sleep state. I have mine always on as I spend most of my time in a wifi environment.
If you set it to sleep when screen off you will see it in the battery state screen you've referred to.
I personally don't find any battery benefits from sleep when screen off but try it for yourself. Your situation might be different.

This will turn off the wifi while sleep if the wifi is on generally. What I'm referring is that my wifi stays on (with no connection, just drains part of my battery) even after I turn it off
There are several settings menu settings that pertain to wifi. Disable the settings that allow Google to check wifi status even when wifi is off, automatically search for new access points and never sleep.
