The Evo Shift is a great phone in its own right but there is one problem I have with mine, the nightly builds of CM7 have horrendous lag no matter how many times I factory reset, flash new ROMs ect. Infact, any AOSP rom gives me this trouble on the Shift. Froyo Sense roms work fine on it, however flash video runs horrendously slow. Terribly stutter, jerkiness and lag.
The Nexus S seems to be a great performer, but I have a question.. does this phone run flash content without lag? I must have seamless fluidly moving flash video for the content that I watch and the Shift simply cannot do this, no matter how high I OC.
So my biggest concern is how well does the Nexus play flash content? How much better does it run OC? Can only certain Nexus phones get up to 1.4GHz? Any help would be appreciated.
You must have flash playing smoothly? None of the phones will do that but I can promise you the Nexus is the only one which does it best in my opinion. You'll need to wait for a dual core phone for sprint to come out with to get smooth flash. But even then it all depends on how that flash is implemented and you'll need to most likely root it and strip the junk most phones come with. There is nothing like a nexus.

Do you only factory reset? You should wipe cache, dalvik, boot system... Basically everything on the "wipe" menu except sd, though I wipe my sd also
Evo 0003, Decks 1.2, Tiamat, Vipermod
It all depends on the resolution of the video you're trying to play. I can play embedded flash videos just fine on a site like Engadget. They're not super high quality but look fine. If you try anything high rez like 720p, it won't play.
My Nexus S (stock) runs all flash content smooth as butter, no issues what so ever. I use the browser on it more than my PC, its always awesome.

Been on Cyanogen basically the majority of my android life. looking to try something new.. wanted eclair but there's so many no time to flash each individually.. which one is really the "best/stable" ROM out now?
Unfortunately you will get nothing but fanboys and each their own opinion. I personally tried xRom, King, and OpenEclair and must say so far the fastest, more stable, is OpenEclair. I've even gotten faster times than on Cyanogen.
Open Eclair eh? hmm thanks i'll keep that in mind.
On it now seems nice, only reason I kept cyanogen though is because of the bluetooth..
edit; open eclair isnt meant for mytouch is it.. stuff doesnt display centered?
it is meant for both i believe, check issue tracker via thread to see if maybe its an issue with the mt3g or maybe you just need to reflash.

I've tried a few Eclair builds, and none were anywhere near smooth. Even had one on day before yesterday. Also video recorder was borked and youtube was broken.
Super-D is stable. Completely to the best of my knowledge, on my phone anyway. For the last few weeks it has performed flawlessly.
Before that I was using a non-Super-D and experienced FC's and freezes.
Is OpenEclair as smooth and fast as super-D 1.8? I'm not a Fanboi and will gladly try a better ROM. But I do need everything to work. At least basic features.
Does the video camera work on OpenEclair? Is YouTube broken on OpenEclair?

So far on any 2.0+ rom is going to have a broken YouTube and Video Camera due to no drivers available yet in the AOSP. So unfortunately you do lose on that aspect. However yes to the speed of SuperD, they both clocked identical speed. Check the thread and read the latest posts, they are discussing this now.

I'm reading it now. It looks like they're doing some MB/sec type of benchmarks, and FLOPS and stuff.
I may have to flash it myself to check responsiveness, but I don't want to be disappointed.
Have you ever used Super-D 1.8?
There is a difference between MFLOPS and the smoothness of the GUI and managing multitasking and opening and closing apps.
Can you honestly tell me that OpenEclair is as smooth as Super-D?
Also I saw one guy a few pages back who had his screen black out and freeze when he unmounted his SD card, and someone else had a problem with MT3G rebooting when he plugged in the USB cable. And it's reported that aGPS doesn't work.
Here's an ugly one: "Anyone else having issues where the home icons, folders, and widgets disappear when the screen rotates? I have to restart the phone to get the icon/folders/widgets back.
I have seen this at random with the WG and CM builds...but happens consistently with the OE 1.1.1."
Most posts I've read there so far say it's showing potential but not yet a daily driver.
Well i havent had any those issues but then again i could just be lucky, the only thing is i use OE 1.1 not 1.1.1 because 1.1 uses JIT which makes it a very smooth and faster for me, transitions and apps. But JIT is considered unstable for some so 1.1.1 pulled it out.
My only suggestion is just to flash it like you said and try it out, if you dont like nandroid back.

The rom I am using does video playback fine. Youtube and also videos that I already had on my sd card work great. Video capture does, however, result in a FC.
I've wiped and installed a handful of different ROMs to no avail. Any time I download and install a 3D or 3Dish game (even ShootU), it's choppy. I saw a video of a G1 running Raging Thunder and it was smoother than my mytouch.
What gives? It's pretty annoying.
Running Stokes 1.3 Eclair ROM.
do you use swap? tried superD ROM? hell even cyanogen isn't bad.
my mytouch is choppy in general. like its laggy. not as fast as an iphone (even thought i hate iphones, i have to say that.) but as for games, nah. games that are choppy for me are online games because of the occasional lag, other than thats, mines pretty good.
Yeah, I have Super D's 1.9.2 Rom on after a wipe, and I even formatted my sdcard. I'm running ra amons recovery as well.
The game in particular is ShootU. I installed Raging Thunder and it runs great now...but I'm curious as to why this other game is so choppy.
I was in a TMo store yesterday, took their display mt3g and installed ShootU on it, and it played completely smooth.
Just sort of at a loss. Haven't tried any other games really, and it's not like this is a make-or-break deal for me. Just bugs me a lot.

Super D uses the 10 mb RAM hack and that takes the extra 10 mb of ram from the 3d gaming part of the phone so 3d games will be choppy. If you don't want the 10 mb ram hack or want a choice between hack or not go to cyanogen.
At this moment im playing with a nexus one (tmobil). I have a evo 4g with sense and bugless beast rom. The rom made my phone snappier and i have not use a task killer or rebooted it since i installed the rom. This rom (i have not try other roms yet) is still has fast as day one when it was install. Playing with the nexus one and the stock 2. 1 rom is actually choppier than mt evo. Scrolling and on the web. This is my sister phone and rhe only app she has install is app killer and some games. I did a reboot to see if would make a different and still choppier than my evo. I played on both raging thunder 2. And both ran about the same with similar fps. The onlt different is the nexua screen look alive with more vibrant color.
I believe that with a custom rom the nexus is faster but the nexus has been out for a long time already. In my opinion, the evo 4g will be just has good. Give it a few month cause this is only thebbeginning for the phone.
Not any one thing in particular, but just overall it "feels" unresponsive? I have the OTA update before it was suspended.
Am I the only one noticing this?
Also has anyone been able to actually use the new Calculator? That thing doesn't register button presses to any form of practicality for me.
I'm just wondering if there are steps to fix this, or if this is how ICS is on the Nexus S. I'd rather go back to GB if that was the case.
I haven't noticed any unresponsiveness issues, to be honest. Although I had the phone just for a short while before the ICS update came out. So I didn't have much time to get accustomed to GB in order to be able to compare them accurately.
I had some random crashes, but last night I did a factory reset and it solved those issues for me. I'm using the calculator on a regular basis, no issues there.
the same to me, seems to move slower after OTA update
Because gb was made just for this phone. Every other phone just runs it, wasn't tailored for them.
Now ics was made just for the gnex. Same as all nexus phones.
Gb was made for the hummingbird. Etc etc...
Simple as that.

Wrong section btw. Mod should move it.

Same here....maybe because of all the new animations?
Its much faster for me
Nothing slow over here my phone is faster then ever
From the browser to everything in general....
Everything is working up to par on my end.
It is fast, but GB was faster overall. Not sure even "faster" is the better word. Perhaps "snappier" is more appropriate.
You can notice it in the small things... Opening an app, scrolling in some menus, etc.
Nop, It's running super fast here.
Browser experience is best ever!! Changing tabs is fast and very cool with the zooming animations
I say overall, it's feeling even faster than gingerbread.
Even with the battery issues, I'm not downgrading.
No problem here. Pretty smooth and snappy. Of course I flashed a custom kernel, OC and all the mod goodies. All help my phone snappier. I also recommend spare a buck and buy Autostarts app from the Market, if your phone is rooted.

Runs very smooth here. Stock ICS 4.0.3 on i9023 ;-)
The experience overall is very smooth. The browser has a few quirks here and there with some websites, but overall its much better than the GB browser. The only place where I feel the phone struggles is opening the app drawer. It's like waiting for one of the older automatic cars to gear shift when u put the pedal to the metal.
My only problem is the frame-rate in ICS. Just swiping over home screens seems limited to 30 fps (definitely below 60).
Nope my phone is not slower at all.. ICS is very snappy!!
no troubles at all.
flashed the 4.0.3 stock plus the Glados v2.3 kernel (deep idle is a beast, rly...) and my NS is faster than ever. I'd never return to gb.
battery power ends in about a day if I use the phone intensively (internet, wifi, 3g, some games, music and so on...) but in a daily use (some sms, facebook news, email reading, etc) I'm experiencing no "battery drain problems" at all. charged 2 nights ago, still at 68% right now... (probably because the kernel, tho...)
edit: i forgot to mention that I'm running 110% live OC w/stock voltages and get no reboots or similar hellish-noobish things
Mine seems quicker and more responsive than ever I'm happy to say.
No lags or any problems with ICS stock rom. Also some of the best battery life for a long time.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Absolutely no,
I formerly used CM7.1 and then installed ICS in the cleanest possible way (wiped everything, went to 2.3.3, updated to latest Gingerbread, wiped everything installed ICS from the zip file)
It works alot better, it feels much smoother, web browser was improved alot.
I can use the calculator properly and it works better than in GB, maybe its a random matter that some people face.
In my case , ICS >> GB. feels as if I got a new phone.
I love ICS on the Nexus S, no sluggishness at all. Custom roms seem to be very buggy and slow. I'm running it strait stock with no problems at all.

Hi all,
Just wondering which ROM I should install to get the best out of the old t101? I've tried a whole bunch in the past few months and all of them seem to run pretty damn sluggish despite them claiming to be "fast". I'm sure that it didn't run this horrid when I first bought the device when it first came out.
I don't fancy going back to honeycomb, but if thats the only way to get things running nicely back again then I guess there isnt much choice.
are there any 4.0/4.1/4.2 roms which run good enough to use as a daily driver? Currently running the Paranoid Android port.
many thanks in advance.
Highly recommend the KatKiss 4.2.2 or 4.3 ROMs.
Be sure to use TWRP recovery and do a factory reset from recovery. I would HIGHLY recommend a FORMAT DATA as well as this will speed up the IO performance of the /sdcard/ that can make it slow. This will wipe all data.
If you do not wipe data it will take some time to scan the media on the tab on first boot. Maybe 15-90 min.
If you don't for at data, be sure to run the two optimize scripts in a terminal to help with the slow IO issue.
/etc/kat/optimizedb and /etc/kat/optimizestorage

Honestly, I haven't seen anything like this with any ICS-onwards ROM vs stock. 100% the opposite.
When you say sluggish, what do you mean? Desktop transitions, animations, load times, specific app performance? With EOS/KatKiss 4.1 ROM's onwards, everything about my TF is improved. Desktop transitions, scrolling browser smoothness, etc. are all seriously improved since honeycomb.
With KatKiss 4.3, I haven't even bothered yet to overclock.
I run KatKiss 4.3, and so far it is the best ROM that I have seen for this tablet. It is much faster than stock Honeycomb ever was, and has been extremely stable for me. My tablet has currently been up for fourteen days with no issues.

I have the same problem as OP. The stock was pretty smooth, but after upgrading to KatKiss 4.2.2 everything is sluggish. Animations/transitions are choppy. Browsing the web is becoming an exercise in frustration with long page loads. The subjective feeling is as if the processor became slower or there is less RAM available. I compared this with a first gen Nexus 7 and that thing runs the way my transformer used to.
Well I stand corrected. I upgraded to KatKiss 4.3 and my Transformer just flies. So it was either a bad installation or something about 4.2.2 that it did not like.
