how about u read around first and it wouldn't hurt to use the word "please" from time to time
You want the CF-Root thread in the development section.
As already mentioned, make sure to read read read before actually doing it.

yes there is a very easy way to do that you dont need to unlock your device for that. go to this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2015467 , download the nexus 10 toolkit and install the drivers , enable debugging on your device, then select root unroot options , from there choose root + install busy box , then select superSU. and you are good to go , root without unlocking or any custom recovery.

absolutely. i havent tried though , but in theory it surely will.

From what I've read here, root only works for the primary user. I could be wrong, but you might want to do some more research on that subject.

That would be fine actually b/c I don't want to provide my technologically weak parents with super user powers lol
But I just don't want to go through the trouble of unlocking and losing my data

Sorry harrisfayyaz, but are you sure?
I rooted my N10 some days ago with this tool and tried it without Unlocking. It did not work for me - app told me I have to unlock first before rooting. Just would like to know if I was just dumb or not ^^
Use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2003938. It works for 100%. I did it already twice (once on 4.2.1 and then again on 4.2.2). Nexus is rooted, but lock is still there. Run *.bat file without unlocking - it works.
I dont want to doubt what you are writing but the OP from the topic says:
Note: If you are using a retail device, you may need to unlock the bootloader first, using './fastboot-windows oem unlock' (or the appropriate version for your machine, included in this zip). Note that the OEM unlock sequence wipes your device, so consider doing an 'adb backup' beforehand if required!

The op said if you were using a retail device you might have to unlock the boot loader first, did you get yours through the play store?

No, through Amazon from US. So in my opinion you always can try. In worse case if it requires unlock it doesn't root your Nexus.
I also read first post but in next part of thread users noticed that unlock is unnecessary. I tried it twice and works every time

After root, lock your Nexus by NRT.
this method worked for me
however it was a pain to get drivers working, i had to get universal naked drivers
one question, will future otas work?
Should work as long as you don't change system files (OTA checks hash codes of them).
I also used universal naked drivers.
Guys just got my n4 few mins ago.. I don't actually want to unlock the bootloader yet, just root the stock that's it..
Actually my younger bro is gonna use it for sometime and he doesn't do all this, i just wanna root his phone so that he could use titanium later on for backing up and move to a different phone while i take over the n4.. Would unlock the bootloader then so i get a fully wiped phone..
Dev section is too big to search for this.. Can anyone just link me to the thread/tutorial for rooting the stock without unlocking bootloader ??
Thanks

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there's a way to root without unlocking the bootloader. If you just got the phone a few minutes ago, what's the harm in unlocking the bootloader? If you unlock it now, it will save you the hassle of wiping all the data from the phone in the future.
Also, just because you have an unlocked bootloader doesn't mean that you have to change ROMs or anything. You can always lock it later if you need to, but having an unlocked bootloader gives you a lot more freedom when it comes to rooting.
Edit: Here's a guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2018179

Hi I see you want to root to use titanium backup. If you don't want to unlock/root you could use this backup service called carbon. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup&hl=en
There is no way to root without unlocking the bootloader atm.
Just unlock with wuggs toolkit, then its as simple as an app from play store to lock/unlock. Geez, the urban legends of the horrors and sins of rooting, don't believe everything on the Internet.

My son updated his phone last night with the OTA 4.3 update. He asked me to root it this morning, and it fails every time. It seems that Lookout is stopping it. I disabled lookout, but it seems to be integrated in the new software. I tried every method on this forum. If anyone could help, I'd appreciate it.

cf auto root works on rogers, but you'll trip the knox flag. if you dont use active sync (exchange) then you may not care. can still root and run custom recoveries on rogers. Just typed up a bunch of crap on knox, so not getting in to it again, but if I were you, i'd wait for a confirmed knox safe method.

Good morning guys, Please pardon my ignorance if you find anything dumb about this post, I just switched back to Android yesterday.
I want to side load 4.4.2 on my Verizon Note 3 Using Odin. I found this write up here --
http://androidcentral.us/2014/01/update-galaxy-note-3-to-android-4-2-2-kitkat/
A couple of things that concerned me were it has to be factory unlocked. "Make sure your phone is factory unlocked. It is compatible for both users". Being that it is global ready does that mean it is "unlocked"?
I know I should root but being that I just got it I want to make sure there is not anything wrong with it first etc as I heard once rooted its irreversible and Samsung would know (correct me if I am wrong).
Any follow up insight would be great thanks guy.
First question. Are you with Verizon? If yes, is the the developer edition? If no, then DO NOT FLASH THIS. The link you posted is for the international version of the note 3. Being able to use a Verizon n3 globally via adding that plan does not make it unlocked.
Also. There are a few other threads on this same exact topic.

If it is a developer edition. I know there ate more ROM options available for you to choose from. I think cm11 has been released, but I'm not sure. Search around.
I hope I caught you before you tried anything.

If you were to flash that it would most likely brick your phone. Just because you root your phone doesn't mean that it's permanently rooted or that "samsung will know". It's not hard to get rid of root access either. If you have never rooted a device before I suggest you do a little research on how to root your specific device before you start. There are a lot of write ups on XDA and other sites that will provide some very helpful information. I've read countless posts of people who rooted and started messing with files that they didn't know what they were for and ended up with a paperweight for a phone, all because they didn't take the time to search and read the forums first.

No way without an unlocked bootloader. Since you have to unlock your bootloader to root, you can do them both by following these guides!

Well no he didn't. I made it very clear that I did not want to go through the recently discovered process to obtain root. Since unlocking the bootloader is the first part of the process to obtain root, it shouldn't take a genius IQ to understand that I'm talking about the process as a whole, not just the second half of it.

I'm no expert but I've done the conversion process. It seems a bit too complex to create a toolkit or one-click method. If I had to predict, I would say no one is going to create a one-click process.
I can tell you that the rooting portion is the easy process. Once you unlock the bootloader and flash TWRP, you can simply flash one of the few pre-rooted ROMs

Sadly you'll have to follow one of the guides to achieve root. Took me one try and about 10 minutes of my time. Really not that difficult if you follow the instructions accurately.

It already is one click to obtain root. You just need to go through the unlock process first. It's really pretty easy.
Just read over the guide a few time, and make sure everything is downloaded and ready to go.
Mine worked first time without issue. Only took maybe 10 minutes once I started. I read through the guide several times before I started just so I was sure I understood everything and didn't miss any steps.
