Hi all, I've done some searching but haven't been able to find a decent answer to this minor problem.
Basically, contact pictures (stored in Google, linked to facebook for HTC sense) are no longer updating. Previously, when people changed their photos on facebook, that would eventually filter through to the contact pictures displayed on my phone. This is no longer happening, possibly related to GB update but I can't be sure.
If I go into the person's contact page on my phone and move across to Updates and events, I see the correct photo attached to their recent updates. However, if I then try to edit the contact and choose the photo to be attached, the photo offered by Facebook for HTC Sense is incorrect. Manually syncing contacts in FB for HTC doesn't do anything.
I know it's a miniscule problem in the grand scheme of things, but it's annoying me. Am I missing any vital steps here? Is there a way of forcing a contact photo update?
Common issue with gb, just try delete Facebook for htc account and login in again, and then sync. It was help to me..

Thank you georgito. I should have said that I've already been through that process once and, yep, it reloaded the pictures correctly the first time. Thing is, I seem to be stuck with those pictures now, so it's still not actually updating on the fly. I don't fancy deleting and reinstating the account every time I want to update photos!
Should also have said I'm on stock rom, etc. For now.
It's not just stock ROM problem, I had several cooked roms based on android 2.3. 3 and all shows same problem...

Hello All,
Am new to HTC Android Phone. I have setup my contacts photos to be picked up from the respective Facebook Profiles. Although this happened the first time, if a contact changes the photo on facebook it is not getting updated in the phone? Is there a way to manually force an update??
Facebook sync is enabled (i guess once every 12 hours) and it has been several days since the contact updated the profile pic on FB.

Pretty annoying, but I have not found a way yet to fix it. Looks like a problem with facebook for android.

It seems that the facebook sync method doesn't check if the facebook profile pic is updated or not. Probably to save network bandwidth and sync time. But it is kind of annoying that it is not updated.
I have exactly the opposite problem. The pictures assigned to my contacts in google keep getting updated with those in facebook. While I don't mind that for contacts that do not have pictures in Google, it is quite annoying for such that do.
i pressed the sync all widget and all my face book images updated
my legend is rooted and running the modaco rom tho

Strange that it works for you. Can't see how a root or new rom would change anything. I have the same problem, using stock unrooted rom. Kinda hoped it would be fixed with new update, but no luck

I was also facing the problem of getting updated display pic from facebook and thought that there wasn't anyway to solve.. until after i ran into the FriendStream problem.
My FriendStream started acting strange and refuses to update friends' status today, it force closes when i try to launch the application proper. After reading up online, I did what others suggested, remove the facebook account and re-add it to FriendStream.. It got my FriendStream working again, plus a bonus - it "re-linked" with all my contacts in People and updated their profile pics! =D
Might take a while for it to fetch all the display pics again though, so I'd recommend doing it with a WiFi connection
My facebook profile pics update but there is a major delay between 12 and 24 hours) even though facebook and friend screen update every 10 minutes

the solution I found to force an update was to run friend stream, friends, facebook, menu, update
it takes some time

i know this is an old thread so hoping there was a better fix for this issue? terribly annoying
Doing a refresh in the friendstream app updates the photo in the app but not the contact photo
I have found no way to update the photos till now... have even tried unlinking the Facebook profile from the contact and readding - no use...

If you are trying to get your facebook friends to show up in your contacts, go to contacts and hit menu view and make sure that facebook is checked.
Posting this in multiple threads to see if you get an answer will just get you flamed. Just an FYI.

facebook sync is working again as of 12:30 est
I am still getting the "service currently unavailable" message. maybe it is better to just sleep on it and try tomorrow.
It syncs my pic but no others doesn't even display any contacts to chose from...

Have to say, I removed my Facebook account from sync and tried adding it back. I can log in, but all my friends no longer show up and sync properly. So something still must be going on with Facebook.
Hopefully an update that will give us notification when a message is sent Something so simple and yet they can't implement it. How about facebook chat while we are at it. I heard rumors that Froyo should allow for push notification like it does with IPHONE. The IPHONE app is a more polished APP. Why can't they replicate that one for Android?
I am not a big facebook fan but I have friends( Yes I pay them monthly ) that likes to chat on it.
I never could get the facebook app that came with my phone to work, I ended up trying to delete it and downloading the android app from facebook.com. Works great so far except I can't (or don't know how to) accept friend requests with it.
It's not the Facebook app that isn't working. It's the Facebook for Sense that doesn't work. I've tried the suggestions above already.

This didnt work for me but there is an app called syncmypix in the market that works excellent.......

for all having issues syncing facebook contacts go to the market and download syncmypix and it does the job....
I don't think you guys seem to understand the problem. This isn't just sync'ing pics. If you wiped your Evo (or any mobile device) and try to load your friends from facebook, they won't sync.

Try it. Delete your facebook app and links, re-add them and try to sync again.
... Just installed Syncmypix and all it does is add photos. Nothing more. I don't know about others but this does not "do the job" of syncing facebook contacts. Just the pic.
Yes, this just started and you can search other web sites, many people are now reporting it. It's a problem on the server side at face book, they've changed something.

That is what I figured when I tried to view my "facebook phonebook" in my people directory.
First it said that I didn't have any friends, so I decided to do a refresh. During the refresh, I noticed that it just hanged (with the little circle spinning in the top-right corner). Then it exited out of the program saying "unable to connect"
ok i thought it was just me but hopefully they get this fixed cause i like being able to link my contacts
Just did a factory wipe of my phone and now when trying to log in to Facebook for HTC Sense I am getting: The service is currently unavailable. Would you like to try again. Tried again with and without wireless to no avail.

Restored back to a Nandroid backup that had been working fine, removed the Facebook for HTC Sense sync account and tried re-adding it, getting same issue. Sounds like a problem with Facebook.
Just flashed my Desire tonight and I can't sync Facebook.....it's getting me mad now.....grrrrrrr
It is ok, that is a very useless bloatware feature of Sense... Soo lucky!
I like the Facebook for HTC Sense app, it sync pictures for all of my contacts to their Facebook accounts so I don't have to. I loved that feature in MobileShell 3.5 for Windows mobile.

In regards to Facebook I can help you with that. Please try the following steps if these do not help please contact the HTC helpline. Check People>Menu>View and confirm is the Facebook and/or the Facebook for HTC Sense is ticked. Log into there Facebook Account online and check if anything has changed. Does your password contain any unusual characters? (!ӣ$%^&*()_+) etc. Open People app>select the globe symbol>Facebook>Menu> Refresh. If you have checked all this and it fails try Home>Menu>Applications>Manage Applications >Facebook for HTC Sense>Clear Cache>Clear Data. Home>Menu>Settings >Accounts & Sync>Facebook for HTC Sense>Sync Now. I trust that this resolves your query. Please do not hesitate to contact us again if required.

HTC Sense Not Playing Nice with Facebook
Followed the steps in the post and Facebook for HTC Sense now connects, but it still doesn't seem to be working properly. If I go to a contact and try to link it to a facebook contact it doesn't show any of my contacts. Definitel sounds like Facebook changed something that broke the way the HTC Facebook app interacted with it.
Functionality seems to be restored for some users now, I personally had to nandroid restore back to a few days ago pre-FB/HTC issue, but once I did that+some muddling/restarts, all contacts sync'd as they should. YMMV
I have had the same issue with sense not getting along with face book. In people, where you choose which contacts to show, I checked my contacts for face book but it showed 0 of them. After restoring any data I thought would help thru titanium, un-installing fb, re installing fb, and re booting did things seem to be back to normal.

Apparently HTC have advised some customers that the issue will be fix within 48 hours.....so give it until Christmas and we'll be able to sync again
Does anyone else have this problem (or a solution) but when I link my core contacts (from my Google account who all have their own headshot that I chose ages ago) and link it with Twitter (which seems to be fine) and/or link it with Facebook your Facebook Profile photo of said contact overpowers your default one? Even if I go into edit, and change the photo to tell it to use the "Google" one or even if I select an image from my phone's SD card it'll appear for a second but then Facebook's image over powers it... is this just me? Or if it's not, does anyone have a solution other than unlikning Facebook accounts to your existing contacts?

I think I have it now. I think it was the fault of the old Touch Pro2 I used to have as the <HTC DATA> stuff in the "Notes" of some contacts was lengthy...

I have this same problem on a new desire z - not had android before. I pick a photo from the gallery but a few mins later the crappy res facebook one takes over.
Would love to know how to fix it.

Update... My idea worked, until Facebook did it's hourly sync from my phone! Back to square one!
Having done a bit of a google, im not sure theres a fix for this. Hopefully will come with 2.3.

I have a solution, I'll post it in a few hours when I'm back from university!
Create a "phone" contact with the same name (or similar), give that contact the nice sized picture from your phone, then link it with your Google/Facebook accounts, let your phone "sync" to these services once, then go in, edit contact and select the "Phone" picture from the menu and regardless of how many times you sync it won't overpower your default (large) phone contact picture...
Nice workaround - but hopefully 2.3 will fix it properly.

I've searched through previous threads and couldn't find an answer so I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right direction.
Note that I'm on my 2nd Droid X. The screen on the first one died, but it too experienced this issue.
The issue I am having is with syncing contact pictures onto the phone. If I add them manually, the picture quality is fine. Note that I am using OS X to sync my contacts from Address Book with Missing Sync. The only problem is that as soon as I sync my contacts to Google, the picture quality goes to hell. I have disabled automatic contact sync and unlinked my Address Book from my Google account, but I'm just wondering if there is a workaround for this. It's not a big deal to sync everything manually, but being able link everything automatically with my Google account in case of a catastrophic simultaneous breakdown of my computer and my phone would be nice. Any advice on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: Not sure if this helps any, but my phone is rooted and running on stock Froyo 2.2.340.

Are you on facebook? I use the app syncmypix to put the profile pictures of my contacts that are my friends on facebook cuz it seems launcherpro has trouble updating the pics... I know there is an option to use high quality pics... I don't know if that would solve your problem

Yeah, unfortunately that doesn't seem to work either since as soon as the pictures are synced with Google, it's back to the low quality versions. The weird thing is my wife's Incredible syncs automatically with her Google contacts, and everything looks great so I'm not sure if the problem is with Motorola or just the way Google interacts with the Droid X.
The Incredible might be storing local copies of the hi-res images
