Any problems, suggestions, comments, feel welcome to post.
Standard Disclaimer Mumbo Jumbo about spontaneous combustion, girlfriend breaking up with you, sky falling, other funny stuff, etc. Once you flash, I will be more than happy to help, but remember a couple things:
-I do not offer a warranty, your manufacturer's/carrier's warranty is now void.
-I am not responsible for what to do to your device.
-I am only human, so don't expect me or my ROM to behave perfectly!
This ROM is being updated by the original dev, when he updates, I will update. Otherwise, updates solely by me will happen when I see fit or when someone suggests a change or brings up a problem.
When providing bug reports, please provide some simple information such as:
ROM version (I know it's just the first version, but for future reference...)
Steps you followed to install (yes, write them out)
ROM you came from
If you wiped ALL (data/cache/dalvik/system)
If you restored ANYTHING (ex. with Titanium Backup)
Steps to recreate the problem/any useful info about the problem.
Happy flashing!
Sounds pretty good. Looking forward to trying it.

Ok so wiped everything twice like you said... Chose custom installation (the one where you don't have to reinstall the ROM for changing anything) and I chose devil kernel, stock theme, and the some apps. But I noticed that when I go to settings /about phone every thing there is from the rom I was running before this, like kernel and mod version.. I believe this ROM is based on slim but it has an aokp theme (the one I had before fishing this.) And if I go to system/xxxx everything there is also from the previous ROM I was running. but the ROM is very fast smooth and responsive. I came from simply aokp v6

Correct, this is a mod of SlimICS, hence TiramiSLIM. So...your issue with messaging FC'ing remains? And to clarify...what kernel and mod version show up in your current setup?
Also, what messaging app did you install? Inverted? Stock?

Glad it worked for you, and thanks for keeping the issue updated!
Thanks for porting this. I hope to see your thanks meter continue to go up. I know it more than doubled today!
A couple questions if you don't mind-
On the original post in the I9000 forums, they have some sweet themes. What is the best way to go about getting those? Are they available for the captivate?
I found in that forum that others are trying out different kernels. Have you experimented at all? It seems to me that the one that comes with it doesn't support overclock and BLN through NSTools.
EDIT: The latest version of Devil Kernel works for me so far.

thanks Zzmomo. Use update-me app for themes (instructions are in original thread). kernels can be flashed in aroma installer. Update me app probably has i9000 kernels...I'll check this out.
So yeah...I'll have to release an update to the ROM to fix the update me app for the captivate. I'll probably also release an update.zip so current users don't have to download the whole ROM again.

joshlevinson this is a very nice rom. works like a charm !!! thank you so much for this!
I was messing around a bit and tried putting galaxy s3 ui sound instead of the regular ones. I replaced them using Root explorer and changed all the permissions to the right one and rebooted but it didn't work so I tried putting the default ones back but still didn't work... Any way I can get then back without having to reflash the ROM.. And if I do have to reflash it do I need to wipe or not
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda premium
Did you replace the sounds in the aroma installer, or just by using root explorer? Please explain the process a bit more.

OK for replacing the file, I got them from team remics and I took system/media/audio/UI and replaced them with the ones from this rom. Set permissions and rebooted...
Then for the reflash process I wiped cache and dalvik cache , used modify me and selected devil, then replaced galaxy s3 and delete default sound, and selected some apps.. and rebooted but still no sound... so then I reflashed using default installation and then flashed again using modify me and all worked. Sorry for the trouble

Hi guys,
I just got an Samsung Galaxy S i9000. I am pretty new to this Android stuff so please bear with me if I've asked simple or stupid questions
I'm also no expert on phones as well.
Right now, I've been advised to get an custom ROM that's based on pure CM with DroidWall installed after doing it.
Now, I'm trying to learn how to do it and I have no idea where to look at or do this.
Can you please give me some tips and links that will guide me to do this? All I'm looking for is to increase the battery life while still connected to WiFi/3G to use Facebook, Instagram, Google Play, and the games etc.
Thanks for your time to help this noob
Well, if you're totally new to android, you're early with rooting. I don't understand why you were and who advice you to use droid wall. It's just an app that isn't even needed. You should root your device with CF root, then you're able to flash the ROM you like. BTW, is it so hard to Google for that so that you have to create a thread? I doubt.
As dark knight said it's not very difficult to search on google.
It's very easy to root ur phone and if don't understand what you are doing sometimes it's normal but i don't think that root a phone and flash a rom is really hard, everything is wrote.
Well, googling it is easy but the thing is for me is that I'm not too sure which one I should get. I wanted to get some tips and advices on which I should get because I'm new to this thing. I know it may be stupid question to ask but yeah. Cheers.
Lol i understand, there is lots of ways to root ur i9000 like using an app like z4root or root it with a computer with softwares, try z4root it's very easy to do but it doesn't always work

Its easy to install a GB 2.3.6 ...JVU as an example, then from keypad make a factory format ( star 2767 star 3855 # ) and will have a clean and new Android. Next step, root with Odin using Semaphore 2.5.0....
If you want one of the best ICS's...give it a try to RemICS UX 1.3.1....will be surprised.
Good luck.
you could use z4root,Universal Androot
Hiya, i am in the UK England and have a Samsung Galaxy Apollo GT-5801 which was on orange but unlocked
and now fully rooted using SuperOneClick it's currently running stock ROM and no kernels have been flashed.
so it's basically just rooted.
i have been reading in depth about flashing kernels/roms and seen everyone always saying make a backup
with clockworkmod recovery,
well now i am stuck the apollo according to clockworkmod website and ROM manager doesn't have any
supported application for this model of phone. every time i go to install via rom manager it says sorry this
phone is not supported unless you have installed clockworkrecovery by some other method.
So can someone tell me how i can get Clockworkmod recovery onto my phone with the custom rom it already has?
this way i can make a backup of my nand/phone and be happy that i can just restore it if and when needed.
not really interested in using custom roms i don't want to mess with that side i am happy with the phone as it is
just i wish when holding down power + volume + home button the recovery hboot screen had the clockworkmod instead.
all i rooted the phone for was to get shut of the stock apps taking up space, my phone is now how i like it.
and just want to be-able to make an image to restore back to.
i have tried using premium apps like titanium backup pro but its useless because that only lets you
backup and restore in the phone OS and plus it makes like 150 separate files instead of 1 .img file or zip file
i need something i can backup/restore if my phone one day doesn't boot.
i just downgraded my wife htc wildfire to be-able to root and install cygenmod7 which she is loving.
but that phone has clockworkmod (rooted with unrevoked) so it automatically installed it.
Anyway thats the background, and the reason i really need to get this nand backup working on my phone.
can anyone , anyone who's somehow installed clockworkmod recovery on their Apollo please help me out.
thank you!
Just flash a custom ROM such as Purumod v3. You don't know what you're missing in terms of performance. It's amazing! And it also has CWM pre-installed as do all of the ROMs on this forum. It saves you the hassle of finding the CWM files and having to manually overwrite some of the system files. If you really don't want to install a custom ROM then you can flash the G3Mod kernel which has CWM pre-installed or you can move this file to /system/bin.

Thanks for the quick reply, i looked into the G3mod Kernel it states there that the latest version is available
but when you click the download link to the files the latest there is a kernel below that.
code.google.com/p/g3modteam/downloads/list
if you look there the latest version they have is G3MOD_2.4.1_NON-OC.zip but there is a thread in G3MOD advertising 2.5
but i cannot see or find this 2.5 anywhere, obviously i want the latest as it includes the latest CWM version from what i can tell
on the features list.
unless i am blind 2.5 is not available at the link above sorry not got 10 posts so can't post the actual link?

Its because the Dev who uploaded version 2.5 forgot the Google code password and I would recommend using fugumod kernel and the cwm file I posted since G3MOD kernel doesn't give as good battery life as fugumod.
Click thanks if I helped.
wouldn't it be a good idea for him to maybe edit his first post explaining that and maybe putting on mediafire or some other hosting.
lol people like me wouldn't be scratching their heads reading a thread which is all about this kernel but the kernel is no where to be found.
much appreciated guys,
So I took a big leap and rooted my tablet this morning. I've installed Titanium Backup and GMD Gesture, and also AdAway and AppQuarantine. What other great things can I do? I love trying new things. Any suggestions from you experts? I would be very grateful!

Download and do either of the following for a full backup...
the best way to do a complete and full backup of your device.. There are two methods
1 most common
download ROM MANAGER
you can from in this app install a custom recovery on your device..
Boot into the custom recovery and do a full anand backup. you can also flash other custom roms (custom android os)
2 what i use..
download goo manager beta from play store
in go manager click menu at top choose install open source recovery . follow prompts . It will download and install
same as step one you can boot into recovery from goo manager Its big botton fully touch base . And you can backup and restore as well as flash custom roms...
NOW WITH THE ABOVE SAID PLEASE READ thru the forums related to roms rom manager Custom recoveries .. and so on .. this will save you some troubles later .. anything you need to know or not understand Just ask We are here to help.
Cool, thanks! Could you point me to the best place for explanations about roms? XDA is huge and I am not sure where to look... Cheers!

To find roms on xda
Xda is a very organized web site for the most part finding them is easy. deciding which one is not so much
rom actually means read only memory.. But we will skip the tech stuff for now..
Here on the device development forums Rom is referred to mostly as a custom built Operating system for your device .
these can be built by one person or a team of developers . Most have tweaks and customization's a bit above and beyond the stock experience. ITS BEST before flashing any new rom is to into the forum thread of the rom read developer info and the comments made on the thread. Many roms have experimental software apps and tweaks.. Not all roms are perfectly stable..SO FINDING one that has what you are looking for is just a matter of reading and trial and error.
Most roms. well all you see anymore Come with a kernel. (The linux part of android .. Kinda whats under the hood) . Be sure to pay attention to this and the information. Some add features some over clock .
we have here for the n7 several types of roms .
original development .. these are based on the custom operating system pushed by google
custom based on the above but often has alot more customization's and kernel tweaks More likely to have buggs . but often faster and take up less storage space on device.. as well as having a personal twist for the developer on apps installed customization's and themes
I never give advice on what to use just go in the development section and start reading .
Be sure before you flash anything on your tablet know what it is and how to get out of it Back to stock and Have your backups backed up...
ALWAYS HAVE A WAY OUT FIRST..
Good Luck
So I am now on Paranoid Android, trying out the different Workspaces. Thanks for the help!
But I don't understand what Paranoid Android does. What does "This rom lets you scale and project every app, every widget, even systemcomponents individually" mean in every day language?
Also, could someone explain where, in tablet mode, the three dots are for the settings of many apps. They seem to be covered by the status bar. How does one access them? Would be grateful for help as I really like the small tablet mode.
It seems impossible to find anything when 1000s of Google results are scummy suspicious paywall blogs with oddly similar comment sections. I was looking to update my phone to use Cyanogen mod but the device is not on the supported device list but there are devices from lower tier levels.
Full name for my device is: Galaxy J500FN (maybe it has a different name elsewhere ?) a mid range Samsung phone. In Europe. I found a thread about rooting it but that's not really the same.
Not sure how/where to look for answers.
I own the same device currently and would to get answers to this question. This phone has many users in Asia and Middle East. Btw the full name for my device is Galaxy j500H
I have searched a lot but no luck. I could find anything reliable.

Ok getting the deodexed rom is easy.
Just install kitchen and cygwin on pc and setup the up correctly.
And then using cwm recovery make a backup of a factory reseted device and then just send me a screenshot of folders which you have.
After i tell you which filder to choose paate them into kitchen and start kitchen to make a working folder.
Then inside kitchen menu deodex apps and framework folder and then repack the rom.
After repacking flaah the rom using cwm recovery.
Your root will not be lost.
In least cases if root lost after flaahing the re root it using same method as you used before for rooting.
And for improvments you want in custom rom. I will try to get them in the rom.

Thanks but currently CWM is not available, I am using twrp and I know the procedure you just mentioned but I'd rather wait for someone to cook a rom than do it myself. Time boht kam hai dost
So install the terminal emulator and write this.
Su
Tar -c /system/* /sdcard/system.tar
And wait patiently for the emulator to respond ok
Now you got the system.tar
And now get the boot.img from the rom
When you get both the files paste them in original rom folder in kitchen and stary cygwin
You can get good guids on cygwin and dsixda kitchen and how to set them.up correctly.
If not then i will tell you guys tommorow. Today going to sleep it too late here 1:27 am.

I just cant understand this new porting method (5.1.1 has the system.new.dat - and the base rom is just a tar.md5).

There are many roms for moto g3 which is very slow in app opening when compared to j5,
So why can't we hv roms.
C tech trinkets video moto g3 vs j5 on YouTube
J5 is midrange beast.
Because that's not how things work, your phone opens apps "faster" good for you, doesn't mean anything.
