Gingerbread, Sense 3.0 and Ext3/Ext4 - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I am seeing lots of great new ROMs showing up running Gingerbread, and Sense 3.0. What I am not seeing are ones that work well with the EU versions of the phone. I understand that the EU version has less memory.
What ever happened to EXT3 or EXT4 partitions? I don't see any of the new ROMs using this?
I see chefs claiming that their ROMs work on the EU versions, but the reality is that there is nothing left to install any apps.
Am I jumping the gun here? are there any ROMs being made that work with EXT3/EXT4?
I have tried several, and have had to go back to an older Froyo build, that by the way, uses these EXT partitions very well.
If I am out of line, I apologize in advance. Just a little curious if anything is being done in this direction.

They pretty much all use ext. If a rom says ap2sd or app2sd+ or data2sd or anything similar, then it uses ext.

app2sd
None of them really appear to use it. I have tried several, and am out of space as soon as it is finished installing. Not having that issue on my Froyo install.

Hi,
I'm using the one in my sig.
I started with about 150MB of free internal memory and about 500MB free on my EXT.
You might want ti try an app called SuperBox.Great little multi-tool app.
It has the option of moving most of my apps to the sd card, freeing up some valuable internal memory.

Hi!
What if I don't need the latest Sense (3.0)? Which one is the most stable with 2.0?

the rom in your sig is in fact not a sense 3.0 rom but a sense 2.1 rom which
Includes portions of Sense 3.0 (LockScreen, Wallpapers, USB Dialog, TaskManager, Weather, Messages
theres a big difference in the 2

EXT partition
BoyPPC's version, which force closed constantly, and Derek0228's. Derek0228's ran ok, but failed to use the EXT partition. I was left with 1 meg for apps. I already have a EXT3 partition that's 1 gig in size, and both failed to use it.
I'll give dungphps's a try this weekend. I have never heard of rcmix. I even looked for that name after you brought it up, and didn't see it listed.

this is the link for the rcmix ..but again like the sense of eclipse it is sense 2.1 with parts
from sense 3.0
Dungs and AngelDeaths and Dereks and boyppc are the only ones with full sense 3.0
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1100707

Perhaps your ext isn't configured correctly? It and the fat partition must be in the correct order, fat32 first, ext second else it won't work.

why ppl manual partition the sd card?
just use cwm to do this ^^

Apps Installed to SDcard?

Can we do this yet, or is it limited to Android 2.2 when we get it... I ask because the Aria does have rather limited internal memory, outside the use for a SDcard.

No we can't because we don't have a kernel to support it yet. As soon as we do, I'll add it to the liberated rom. That is, if we don't find our way to FroYo rom in the meantime.
well lets hope that Att and HTC get 2.2 out fast. Or if you or someone else can port the cyanogen mod from the MT3GS to the Aria
apps installer
there's an app called 'apps installer'..but i've had issue with it crashing..not sure why..

Has anyone tried adding the old method of Apps2SD to the rom? You don't need a kernel for that.
Here's a guide I built to add the old Apps2SD to a rom...doesn't matter which Apps2SD.

I would like to get FroYo soon. Idc if it has sense or not.
yeah i would rather install it to SD too
Being that Android is based on linux, I don't wee why programs can't be moved to the sd card and have a symbolic link where the app normally would install. It would work in desktop linux, so why not Android?
Well you can but Google only added that feature in 2.2, I'm not sure about the idea behind it.
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
Google added that feature in 2.2, but there has been workarounds using the Linux method (symlinks) since Android 1.0 via CyanogenMod.
I know my Darktremor Apps2SD uses this method of redirecting Android via symlinks to an EXT partition on the SD card. Even the dalvik cache can be redirected if desired.
I know that CyanogenMod has an Apps2SD or a way to launch it via /system/bin/sysinit (at least it does in the CDMA Hero). If anyone is interested in trying it, here's the link to 2.7.5 final:
http://www.darktremor.info/files/a2sd/dtapps2sd-2.7.5-final-adv-signed.zip
If anyone tries it, let me know the results. Thanks.

Nand and internal storage space

I love the new Nand builds of Android,I have finally settled on MDJ_FroYo_Revolution_v._2.0_NAND version which I am very happy with at the moment. My only problem I have, like many others,is storage space for apps.I think there is only about 48/50mb fre after a clean install.I think I was spoilt after coming from SD install where we had massive storage,I realise I dont need GB's of storage but i do need more as I have installed a few apps and I am down to about 4mb left.I am using app2sd as well.
Is there anyway I can create storage space on my European version?
Thanks
You should install apps2sd and install your apps to your sd card
you get it wrong tigermaster... WITH app2sd and moving apps to sd we got this prob
app2sd is still leaving data in your ram when you move something. and this little data is enough for being a prob when you dont have enough memory
I had the exact same problem. The only real soultion is to install a build that doesn't have Sense, like a Nexus build.

ahhh is that the issue? I was going to say MDJ Gingerbread on mine and I currently have 807mb internal storage w/a healthy app list but no HTC Sense.
Gingerbread
i install nand ginger i have 745 mb left after install and few apps
You guys won't have the problem with TMOUS versions, so it doesn't apply.

I think a NAND kitchen (is there such a thing?) would help a lot, and of course, barebone android would also help. Can anyone verify if this is possible? And what's the smallest android ROM out there?? I think it would help a lot of chefs could list how much free space is left.
+1 I am also looking for a bare bones Android ROM I can work from, hopefully a few fully working gingerNANDs will be around soon.

Problems with memory on sense 3.0 roms

Hi guys,
This once again, is a very strange problem wich I have on my htc hd2. The problem is when I install a gingerbread rom It's working fine. I use the task killer named Advanced Task Killer (Rechilld) and when I open It and kill al tasks I have around 220M free. So It runs smoothly.
When I have a sense 3.0 ROM, in my case the DHD_3.06.405.1_Sense_3.0_v1.2_EU and I download the Task Kliler. It's around the 130M when I killed all tasks. It's so slow, you can't even imagine.
Anybody know's what the problem is here?
Thanks in Advance,
Fabian1985
because sense 3 takes up alot of ram!!! there is no way around this, i normally have about 100-115meg free on boot
There should be a way. Check out this link:

ram or disk space?
Total ram memory of the HD2 is 412 MB,
i just installed the Runnymede 0.82.401.1 - Android 2.3.5 - Sense 3.5
I have 100 MB free and running verry smooth, this is when i look with the Task Manager
With apps2sd i tells me that 236 MB free memory is
I had to update the kernel wifi is not working in EU rom
With Sense 3.0 it's absolutely normal to have much less ram free than Sense 2.1, this also happened with other custom roms on my HTC Desire.

you'll find most downloads hard if ur using WINDOWS XP,to put it blunt.........IT'S ****IN ****E lol when it comes to downloads,i use my other pc to download cos it has windows vista
Goo in my post and you have free sd 230mb
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1281160
GOO IN MY POST LOCK AINSTALL AND WORK GOOD
avoid using Sense 3.0 + because HD2 has 'old' hardware spec and average RAM....sense uses about 60-80Mb idle...with 100-120 mb idle the phone becomes slow and unstable..

[Q] Choose Rom Android

hello, I tried to find an android Rom, to make dual boot with windows mobile 6.5, my difficulty is to find, a more recent and functional version possible (perhaps by not understand English very well), just do not even know which one to choose, grateful if I could help me.
edit: I find this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1401767 before post, this is just one of the reasons why i was in doubt, is very well done, for who knows what the best kernel, or even a Rom, but for me, i decided to install an Android Rom on my HD2, in the last 5 days, is not going well, you know?
Hmm from what I understood u want a good Rom with a good kernel and not sure what to choose right??
If so, there are many, firstly sense or no sense ??

Ok sense 2.1 with gb there is this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954030 its stable,
For sense 3.5 there was one updated by boxmax just 2 days ago but I haven't tried it....as for kernels, the Rom u choose would probably have a good one but If u don't like it you can always change
Hope I answred ur question

Ok thanks, I'll try then now...
edit: great Rom, but i'm having problems installing apps...
What exactly is your problem?
do you have acces to the Market?
Let me transfer the first app, the others says, it will do, open the transfer bar, but does not even begin, it seems that i dont have space, is that the transfer is made to the internal memory? (I have a lot of space in memory card...)
P.S. - sorry, my english...
edit: i try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1585420 works fine until now (no problem, install/tranfer apps), but i realy like the other one...
if you don't use any app2sd script , the app will be automatically saved on your internal memory.
Try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21195341&postcount=207
but be sure, you have a ext partition on your sd card.
you can create it with the normal cwm recovery
Edit: i attached the script
Thanks, i will try this...
Edit: Well I tried this: ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824154 ) first, because it seemed simpler, and it worked very well (5*), thanks anyway to everyone, and for everything, by the way, something else, what program i choose to see mp4, with subtitles, without delay, on HD2?

I've had it on NAND some time ago. Installed it on SD-Ext yesterday and I've same freezes as in the other NativeSD ROMs. When I'm playing a game of just doing something (like YouTube or Facebook) it freezes and there's only one option to get it back (reset).
Can I speak with somebody about the NativeSD method and the procedures I'm performing during installation of NativeSD ROM ? I think I'm doing everything good and it's always the same (freezes).

I have a 32GB (http://www.sandisk.com/products/memory-cards/microsd/ultra-class10-for-android/?capacity=32GB), a little slower than yours.
I got "error 10 I/O..." for my native SD install (CMight http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1912740) some times or some apps get FC. Same behaviour with Nexus JB (tytung) ROM.
Never had this issue before with (same roms) Nand installations and data-on-ext4 with a Sandisk 16GB class4. I suspect HD2 doesn´t handle fast cards very well..
