Are you looking for apps in general that you can use your sdcard contents with?
Like Adobe Reader, or Mobo player for watching video files? File expert is a good file manager which can help you navigate and see your file structure and the contents of your sdcard.

[SOLVED] External SD card issues

Hello, I have searched around for solutions for this problem but can't find anything that helps me; I have an 8gb external sd card with some music, files, etc. stored on it. There are three problems I have noticed so far with this:
The music files are not found by the stock music player or any others except Tinyplayer
Pictures stored on the external SD card only show up in the gallery until the media scan runs and then they dissapear, but are still accessible through Astro.
And I am unable to transfer files from the external sd to the internal sd
As mentioned above I can still play music files with tinyplayer and access photos using Astro but this is a very annoying problem! I have also tried formatting the card (FAT32) but this has not fixed the problem.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Deleting this file solved my problem!
using astro you can copy and paste file from external to internal, but why do you want to do that?
after the media scan runs, the thumbnails will remain until you eject the external card again
using gallery picture viewer you can see external sd pictures
it use a music player called "player" way better than the stock player, and you can have the pictures anywhere and it will pick it up
The thing is I can't though, if I try to move a file from external to internal Astro brings up an error that says "Move Error - Move Failed".
When taking photos and videos I have set it to store them in the external card but after they have been taken they only appear in the gallery momentarily and then will dissapear even though the card is still in the device.
Save your files on computer and format sd from phone
Sorry I've tried formatting and the same thing happens annoyingly!

Find someone with a card and try with his. Yours might not be good
it sounds like the Internal SD card is the problem here, not the External
are you able to create any file or save anything into the Internal SD?

Same here with Astro.. If I try to copy with My Files works ok.
Media is OK (in Music app, Gallery, etc)
what ROM are you 2 running?
that doesn't sounds right to me at all
I copy and paste files often between external to internal SD card and viceversa using Astro File, and it works without the error message you guys have reported.
try upgrading to a newer version of Astro File
if "my files" app is working then it must be either a bug in Astro version you guys are running or a bug in the ROM
i'm on Astro 2.5.2
Saving files to the internal sd seems fine and I am using the stock ROM, not rooted or anything special!
I have found out I can move files from external - internal and viceversa using the My Files App! So that particular problem must be something to do with Astro, which is strange because I am also running version 2.5.2!
I still have the problem of not being able to see media stored on the external card through most apps though, so I will try @exadeci's tip tomorrow and put some songs and pictures on an alternative card and let you all know how it goes!
Thanks for the help so far though guys

YES! It's fixed, I created a .nomedia file on the root of the external sd when I first got the phone and forgot about it, just deleted it and everything is now fine! Thank you very much!
<facepalm>
@AllGamer I have already the latest version of Astro..
JF5 rooted

noob needs help! where is the root of the sd card?

I have the froyo update zip on my sd card. I moved it to downloads thinking that's where it needed to be since it was saved in my xscope downloads. I did the 3 finger salute and it shows an option to apply update via zip, but it says no file is found. Where do I need to put the file? I have es file explorer and andro zip. Thanks.
you need to move it from downloads to the entire section. If you do from downloads and go up one file, that is the SD card.

I don't know where it needs to be, but if you are looking for root... that is not in a directory, by definition. It's as high up as you can be while still in the SD card.
Root of the SD card just means it's not within a folder
Im sorry I still don't understand. Do I need to unzip it first? It shows it's at the bottom of the list in the download folder.
Don't unzip it. Move it from the download folder and leave it outside of any folder
Put it where it was before you moved it to downloads.

Here is the closest I can get to a guaranteed noob-proof explanation:
Rooms in your house are like the folders, leave the room and you're into the house (the root of the sd card)
bah! I got it guys. Thanks. Just had to hit the up arrow in andro zip and move it there. Thanks fellas.

Honestly it's better to have you ask now, than to have you post a thread "Help I bricked my tablet". That being said there are quite a few sticky threads in the DEV section of the A500 forums dedicated to getting you backed up first, then flashing to a custom ROM the correct way. I hope that helps?

To the OP.
Not to be mean, but you have no business rooting and putting any ROMs on the device without doing at least some research first. And by research I mean reading, understand and maybe watching a video or 2 to see what's up.
That being said, what you've probably read is that the file has to be put on the microSD card. You can't see the MicroSD card directly from the PC while it's in the tablet. What you want to do is use a card reader, download the file to your PC and then transfer it directly to the micro SD card. Then put that back into the tablet and do what needs to be done.
If you don't happen to have a card reader, grab an app like Astro or ES. Fiddle around with it so you know where all the directories are. You must be EXTRA careful while rooted as you will have superuser permission and can delete wrong files and copy stuff to wrong places.
Copy the file from your PC to the tab's internal memory to someplace easy like downloads or documents, wherever it doesn't really matter. Then simply use Astro or ES to copy the file from that directory to the microSD card while it's in the tablet.
So to summarize, you need to get the file on a microSD.
Option 1: Use a cardreader.
1. Download the file to your PC.
2. Remove microSD from Tablet, put it into your PCs cardreader.
3. Copy the file from your PC to the microSD card.
4. Remove microSD from cardreader, put it into your tablet.
5. Do as instructed by wherever you read it.
Option 2: Use your tablet.
1. Download Astro, ES or some sort of file manager app.
2. Connect Tablet to PC using USB
3. Copy file from PC to Tablet into a directory you'll easily remember/locate
4. Disconnect PC and Tablet
5. Locate the file on your tablet using the file manager, use it's built in function to copy the file from internal memory to external SD.
6. Do as instructed by wherever you read it.
Good Luck.

microSD card - problem of writing to

Hello!
I have a problem to write data to external microSD card mounted to my Tab 7.7. I cannot copy/move files, create folders, etc. there when doing this using the Tab. At the same time I can do all of this from my PC when the Tab is connected to it - I can create folders on the microSD, copy or move file. Also, there is no problem to read data form the external card by the Tab (books, for example). So, the problem seems to be only with writing to the card from the Tab.
Could anyone give an advice please? Thank you.

You can only use the internal File Manager app built-in the tablet, OR if you have a rooted tab, then use root explorer or estrongs in root mode to do so.
Basically, the microSD card is mounted in a very awkward state - normally you cannot move or delete files from the card, but with the built in file manager app you do have the proper permissions.

You need root, and make sure you do a nandroid backup prior to modifying the file.

(question) Need some help

So here is my situation...
I would like one flash one of the new ICS roms and have run into an annoying problem.
I created a directory on the SD card called "Root", and downloaded the rom and placed it in the directory. I then rebooted into Recovery and after selecting update from zip on SD card, the file can't be located.
The only file in the Root directory is the first ROM I flashed and gaaps.
I can't seem to locate those files from Es file manager though.. Thoughts??

From recovery your sd card is called SD CARD.
from within say file manager your sd card will be in mnt/external_sdcard.
Some sd cards has a issue being read by cwm recovery. Often formatting the card in a Android phone or with sd format app. if k downloaded the rom file from within windows . In android file manager long tap on the file and click properties . check to see if the file is names xxxx.zip.zip
if you have stock recovery . the file must be on the root of the external sd card NOT in a folder at all. But your message makes me think you have cwm installed . if you are sure none of the above is the issue. Try re download the rom of your choice and try again.
Good Luck

Erica is right. When you copy your file to EXT SD Card, you should copy it straight to the card. NOT put it in some folder. This will make it easy for your Recovery to find.
This is the basic method. Depending on which recovery you use (RA or CWM) there are other locations you can use as well (USB Drive, Internal memory) but best to get familiar with the basic method first.
This worked for me... Thanks.
