I am considering buying a Droid X locally, but it's on cricket, how hard would it be to get it on verizon? and what do you need to do?
If it was originally a Verizon Droid X, then you would want to check the MEID with VZW before buying the phone. A lot of Cricket phones have been blacklisted by the original carriers for nonpayment.

that was what i was planning. i just asked him for it 5 minutes ago, he hasn't replied with it yet.
the MEID, or the ESN? or both? lol
Does the DX have an ESN? Some phones had both, some newer ones (my incredible, for example) only have a MEID since that's what replaced ESN.
got the number, called verizon, and it checks out how do i bring it back to verizon?
I believe that you only need to SBF the phone and it will return to the Verizon settings.

It means returning the device to PURE out-of-the-box-stock using a SBF file and a program called RSD Lite.
I recommend Googling for instruction. It's not difficult at all, and even easier if you're using Ubuntu!

Try SBF?
http://rootzwiki.com/index.php/Main-Page/Droid-X-Full-2.2-SBF.html
If the sbf doesn't work, then you might have to go so far as manually revising the programming via qpst.
I don't have any experience with switching phones to metro but I switched a phone from sprint to Verizon and it required a lot of gpst editing in it so I would believe that this would have been done to your phone is well.

When I first got my droid x is was on cricket, but I managed to get it back to verizon by flashing the sbf and calling verizon to switch the esn to my account.

Thank you for the info, so hard without asking a provider.
It turns I missed something : i thought I could use CDMA phones on GSM net by modding or flashing, but that does not seem to be possible .
So US phones with CDMA do not work at all in Europe .
Darn, all great phones live in the US : Samsung epic, Droid Incredible and Droid X.
sigh...
guess I'll wait for the Samsung to arrive here ...
just a simple question..i tried to find it on here, yet cant. i am seriously thinking of getting a droid x , i currently have a flashed htc touch hd (awesome!!) i am in the army and getting stationed overseas in japan. now the droid x is a cdma phone and there is cdma service in japan. my question is if i get the droid x and root it , is there a way to use the service in japan? if so how?
It's up to the carrier if they can add a meid
They probably will though since the US is the only place in the world that goes out of their way to restrict what people can do with their phones or where they can use them.

thanks alot man...all u sayin is i have to give the service provider my meid and then can log me on for their service...
Hi everyone, I've read up on how to flash to cricket or metro but I'm just wondering which would be better? And I currently have no service with either of them, I got this Droid x off a lady on craigslist just to use as a gaming device but now know it can still be used as a phone!
Do I need an Android metro or cricket phone first? Or can I just pay the money and get a number then follow the steps to flash? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Forgot to add that the esn is bad on vzw. Only paid 60 bucks

Not sure about Metro, but Cricket doesn't care about bad ESN. I never had a Cricket account until I set one up last year for a Droid X I got through Craigslist. You shouldn't need a Cricket phone first.
My phone shows up as "CPE- Smartphone- Android OS" and I'm on the "ADR Smartphone All In $55" plan. Everything works great - voice, txt, data, mms, navigation, etc. I also flashed a Craigslist-acquired Droid 2 for my wife and everything is working for her as well.
If you need help getting your account/phone setup right check with chrisngrod over at http://www.cricketusers.com/forum.php.

Dkranes do you think its possible to get a droid bionic on cricket? Would it be similar to what you did to your phone? I assume you used cdma workshop?

I honestly have no idea, the only phones I've flashed to Cricket are the BlackBerry Pearl, BlackBerry 8830, Droid X and Droid 2. I don't see why it wouldn't work, but as far as how to do it I'm not sure.
Yeah, I used CDMA Workshop and originally I also had to use QPST. But I came across a shortcut the other day. Basically you do all the CDMA Workshop steps of the flash (including nvitems, prl, entering your MIN/MDN, etc), then after reboot do a *228. The *228 step saves you from having to do any of the QPST stuff. Here's a link, but the guy says all he did was put the PRL in with CDMA Workshop. I tried that and it didn't work for me until I did ALL the CDMA Workshop steps of the Cricket flash. To get MMS working you'll still have to setup your APN and go into ##PROGRAM to change the MMS settings. http://www.cricketusers.com/verizon...mms-no-root-needed-55-plan.html#axzz1b4mAUWbu
Hi guys, I have a question, I found a Droid 2 Global with bad esn cricket metro pcs for a very cheap price, the thing is I want to buy it and use it in my country Chile, with GSM networks.
I want to know if i can use the mobile without problems even with the bad esn or I have to reset ESN to make it work with GSM network either?

I know with cdma workshop you can actually change esn. You'll need a donor phone and one that has similar features. Don't ask me how, I've done it once using a guide on a optimus s from sprint to boost.
I was under the impression that cricket took bad esns.

Ya you can flash any verizon or sprint phone to cricket...I am using a droid 2 on cricket right now.
I searched as much as i could and im just real unsure on which information to trust. I have a Milestone X2 (droid x2) that i want to use on a verizon plan. The service provider i had used verizon towers and i just wanted to know if i needed to do anything to the phone before trying to have it switched on until my razr gets back from being fixed. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated since i am new to all this and have no idea what im doing. Someone told me i had to jailbreak it or something and i was like ummm ok

Are you saying that you're on VZ with the RAZR now and want to use an old non-VZ phone as a stop gap?
Call them and see if the ESN is in their database.
You can check a Verizon ESN here:

If something doesn't come up saying you're fine, call anyways, to confirm...
As many of you are probably aware, Page Plus has better prices than Verizon prepaid and has the same coverage. Verizon forbids the activation of prepaid devices on Page Plus until they've been used on a prepaid account for six months. I just wanted to make a post to let everyone know that it IS possible to get a prepaid phone on Page Plus. You just have to use a dealer site that doesn't check the ESN. Two examples are www.exclusivecellular.com and www.remotesquad.com. I have used both to activate iPhones and prepaid phones, both of which are not possible to activate on the Page Plus website. The remotesquad one allows free ESN swaps as well as activations. If you have bought the Verizon Moto G, please try to activate it on Page Plus. I really want to know whether or not it'll work. I'm 99% sure it will, but who knows... Verizon might have a new trick up their sleeve. It won't cost anything to activate... In fact, all Page Plus accounts come with $2 free balance.
Nope

Oh no... I've been misleading people on reddit. I was so sure this would work. Have you tried calling Page Plus and asking them to activate it? Who knows... They might do it if you don't tell them what kind of phone it is. Also please try activating a page plus account using a different phone and then using remotesquad to swap your ESN to the Moto G. If you don't have another phone, just type a random 11 or 18 digit number. Should work.
I tried this on a motox and it didn't work . Unfortunately I don't think we will get to put PagePlus on them, Verizon is in the business for making money.

Verizon wasn't even activating the phone prior to today. Today was the actual release date. Has anyone tried today at all? If not i'll post my findings after I return from my purchase.
You can if you buy it at $199.

Same thing on Straight Talk BYOP. Nope.
This is a bummer. I was going to try to get my hands on a $100 Moto G for this reason. I'm a new PP dealer, and would like to try to get this working. Has anyone tried using a donor?

So if you get the unlocked version will it work on PP just fine? I was gonna buy my mother in law one since he is on their network already.

What "unlocked version"? Is there a CDMA one? Where can you get it?
Has anyone made any progress with the G made for other carriers like Boost or U.S. Cellular? There should be fewer obstacles in getting one activated on Page Plus since they are not blocked by ESN the way the Verizon ones are
Is that really the case? I thought verizon won't activate any esn that isn't already listed in its system. Effectively the only option is doing what others are currently doing with the blocked 4g phones on page plus. That requires quite a bit of work in my opinion, and theoretically can be done just as well with the verizon moto g's that are currently blacklisted.

I had a Sprint iPhone on Page Plus. The only ESN's that are blocked by Page Plus are ones that are from prepaid phones or ones that were reported stolen

Pageplus blocks all 4g phones too. If I understood correctly, the sprint iphones require you to jailbreak, and then pretend you're on sprint while roaming on verizon. This means that its not a simple thing to activate like with a verizon phone. Likewise, I don't know if this is possible with a non-sprint phone, nor if it is possible to get the moto g to do this type of trick either. see here: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1735603-sprint-phone-on-pageplus?p=14567637#post14567637
I would be glad to hear otherwise nevertheless
