Yes. It's been discussed may times on here. We won't get the unlock until the Verizon version comes out. It has been unlocked, but for the sake of a quick OTA to patch the phones, the dev is waiting for the VWZ version to be released.

He might be referring to cellular unlock. So he can use the phone on other carriers

That's been discussed also. Doesn't look like AT&T is unlocking these devices yet. You could always pay ~$35 to a third party provider for unlock if you needed it now.

just search on ebay. there bunch of them. i got mine unlocked for $13. good deal i guess. they will ask you for IMEI and about few hours later they will send you the code.

My phone doesnt ask for a unlock code, After i inserted a GSM SIM card of a different country (India), it allowed to phone turned on.
It did not ask anything else... However when i selected global Network Mode, It did not let me search available network operators. The option to search the network operator after switching to Global network mode was not available.
I wonder why! I am not sure even if i purchase a unlock code, where do i enter it?

There is a free alternative for unlocking just by accessing dialer code. Found a thread around here at some point.

I tried unlock-code-world and they never could generate the unlock code. They did however refund my money. I guess you could always try a more expensive website but I'm not sure what their results will be. I did however get my galaxy s for unlocked through AT&T customer service. I looked on the international data coverage maps and found a tourist location that would be a reasonable vacation spot for Americans but also did not have great coverage through AT&T international. I've been told them I was going on vacation you need to leave the country for about a month I said so that if I use their international plans my charges would be outrageous therefore it would not be smart to use a high price international plan for so long I've been brought up the fact about unlocking my phone to use a local SIM card in this area.because I had good payment history and was with the company for least a year the on lock my phone gave me on lock codes for all 3 of my lines all 3 galaxy phones. It will be a case by case basis they determined based on payment history like the service this situation you're about to embark on.I was on the phone about 30 minutes put on a good show discussed international plans various options I couldn't let them decide to unlock it not really force the issue of them unlock it for megive it a try care for hundred percent free

[All CDMA Carriers] Before Buying a Nexus 6, Consider Where You Buy It

Just wanted to post a public service here for y'all.
If you're buying a Nexus 6 and plan to activate it on Verizon, Sprint, or US Cellular, you should either buy it from your carrier of choice or from Google Play. Unless Google pulled off a miracle (unlikely), all the CDMA carriers will only have IMEI numbers whitelisted for devices sold from Google Play and devices sold by that carrier.
In other words, if you're planning to skip Google Play and instead buy one from T-Mobile at full price, then walk over to a Verizon store and activate it, it's not going to happen.
Further, if you're buying a Nexus 6 and expect to be able to activate it on any of the 5 supported carriers at the drop of a hat, buy it from Google Play and don't even consider buying it from a carrier.

UPDATE
Now that people are getting their Nexus 6s, we've got some more concrete information. Keep in mind that every Nexus 6 sold in the US supports CDMA. The problem is, unless you buy it from specific places, the carriers' systems won't allow activation.
VERIZON:
Verizon is not officially allowing any Nexus 6 on its network yet, however, that's only through official channels.
If you have an already-active line, you can take your SIM card (cut it down to nano size if necessary), put it into any Nexus 6 (no matter where you bought it), and you're good to go. If you need a new line of service, you'll have to activate using an IMEI number of a display device that takes a nano SIM (I'd recommend an HTC One M8 or a DROID Turbo), then once you get your SIM card, put it in your Nexus 6 and you'll be golden. And no, this is not stealing IMEI numbers. The minute that SIM goes into your Nexus 6, the display model's IMEI number is freed up. There's nothing morally questionable about this method at all.
SPRINT:
Sprint will currently allow devices sold from Google Play, Motorola, Sprint, and AT&T. We aren't sure about devices purchased from T-Mobile, or US Cellular. Since Sprint whitelists devices at network level, your MEID must be in the system in order for your device to actually handshake with the network. The Verizon trick of using an already-activated SIM card won't work for Sprint.
US CELLULAR:
USCC will activate devices that they sell, as well as ones purchased from Google Play. I attempted to activate my AT&T-purchased phone on USCC and the MEID (IMEI minus the last digit) was not in their system, therefore it could not be activated. Since USCC, like Sprint, whitelists devices at a network level, the Verizon trick of using an already-activated SIM card will not work. There is presently no word on whether or not USCC will activate phones purchased from Motorola, but I'd bet the answer is no, at least for now.

Given that they don't know where you bought the device..... and the fact that you can buy a device from Google, that's designed and advertised to work on all carriers..... and the fact that there is only one sku for all NA variants.... and they aren't making you choose a carrier when you order one..... This myth is busted. If I buy one from TMobile and take it to Verizon I can simply say I bought it from Google..... In which case they have to honor it because Google is selling it as compatible with all carriers.... Do you see? There isn't a "verizon" N6. If there was you would have to provide your carrier of choice at checkout. Otherwise the idea that they are comparing IMEIs is bunk.

Honestly, anything at this point is purely speculation. I don't think you can confidently say that buying from t-mobile means your phone won't work on sprint or vzw...
I just hope vzw hasn't done something really dumb and only recognize IMEI numbers sold through THEM (not even google).

Quite the contrary, I understand CDMA well enough to not consider it if it was the last technology left still in use. (Ex Red subscriber). I totally agree that CDMA providers will need to whitelist the imei#. But by the OP's quote that I highlighted he said "any of the 5 supported carriers". Last I checked, 2 of the 5 supported carriers were GSM. (AT&T and T-Mobile in case you didn't know). I specifically was saying that I call BS that a T-Mobile phone would have any issues what-so-ever starting up and working on a AT&T network. So either you'll are misunderstanding me or I am more tired than I thought and have misread the OP in which case my bad...

Yep. I noticed that. Moto site still has cdma supported also. There better be some clarification later today. I belive VZ also told Kellex at droidlife they were going to offer the NexSix?

I'm wondering if the Play Store units are only compatible with TMo and ATT. Look at the way the carriers are listed on that image. TMo and ATT are above the line with the Play Store link. The CDMA carriers are below the line on their own. That can't be an accident.

Alright guys, time out.
Every Nexus 6 sold in the US, no matter where it's purchased from, will technically work on all 5 carriers. The issue is, the CDMA carriers won't have IMEI numbers white listed for stock sold from other carriers. Based on the IMEI number of your phone, I can tell what color it is, how much storage it has, and where it was sold.
You can activate any Nexus 6 purchased anywhere on AT&T or T-Mobile because they're GSM and don't care where it's from.
You cannot buy a device from anywhere and activate it on Verizon, Sprint, or US Cellular, though. You can lie and tell then you bought it from Play but it won't matter. If you purchased your phone anywhere other than Play or the CDMA carrier you're trying to activate with, they won't have your phone's IMEI in their database, thus no activation.
As for devices purchased from Motorola, I'm not going to speculate because I have no history to go on, but I would imagine that those would be OK as well.
T-Mobile and AT&T will take any Nexus 6 sold anywhere.
Verizon will take a Nexus 6 sold from Play or Verizon.
Sprint will take a Nexus 6 sold from Play or Sprint.
US Cellular will take a Nexus 6 sold from Play or US Cellular.
It doesn't matter that your Nexus 6 that you bought at T-Mobile works fine on al the CDMA carriers (and it will). The CDMA carriers will not activate it purely because the phone won't have a whitelisted IMEI number due to the fact that it wasn't purchased from that carrier or Play. It's no more or less complicated than that.

That sounds logical, except its not how the cdma carriers work. The iphone 4s (and now the 6 and 6 plus in the US, though sprint has a different model, but verizon uses the same model as att/tmobile) was the same model for cdma and gsm, but it wouldn't work on cdma networks unless originally purchased from a cdma network. Basically they whitelisted imei numbers to only activate iphones that were orignally purchased on cdma networks even though the model was capable of both gsm/cdma.

I think what a lot of people don't understand is that you can tell by a phones IMEI number where it was purchased, it's color, the storage, and model number. So you're exactly right. The CDMA carriers only whitelist the devices that they sell, and they enforce that via the IMEI number.

The only time I have ever heard of Verizon allowing a non-Verizon or non-Play Store sold device on their network is by someone having an insider connection and white-listing it. I think it's pretty safe to say that if you buy a device from T-mobile, it will not work on Verizon, unless Verizon changes the policy that is has had in place for years.

An N6 bought from T-Mobile will work on AT&T and vice-versa. The OP was specifically referring to CDMA carriers.

I just purchased a nexus 6 from t-mobile and popped in a sim from att, sprint, and Verizon. I can confirm all 3 worked flawlessly with no problems.
At the device start up, i did skip the part where it tried to activate on the network the sim was from.

Are you seeing the issue of voice + data not working at the same time? When I'm on a call on Verizon, Wi-Fi works, but mobile data shuts off... is this just Verizon, or is this a "feature"?

That is not activated on Verizon...
But what I do want to know is if Verizon will whitelist the imei numbers . because I am soooo ready to pull the trigger to buy at a tmobile store. Did you have to activate the tmobile first? That's what the rep is telling me here

Unless something has changed with CDMA technology, the Verizon phones shouldn't be able to use data while on an active call. I know they are working to get that working with some new LTE standard but I haven't heard anything about it being here yet.

I'm considering switching to TMo anyway, so I picked up 30 days of pre-paid with the phone for 45$. I plan to try both carriers on my commute, see how signal is on both carriers on the train ride, downtown at work, etc. before making up my mind, and this device makes it as easy as swapping the SIM out!
The issue I had, was I didn't have a nano-SIM. Verizon rep at the store told me there was nothing they could do... I told them if he got me a nano-SIM, that customer support could active it... He gave me a SIM and let me use their phone to call Support to activate it. The support person did a "SIM swap" for my existing device, even though my Note3 obviously doesn't use a nano-SIM.. but that's all it took to activate the nano-SIM, and it works perfectly.
I may be misunderstanding your question... I believe the confusion is that you don't actually activate the phone... you activate the SIM IN the device. You should be able to take the phone out of the box, and drop in an already activated SIM and all will work fine...

I know it works. My question is. Would Verizon block the imei or device I.d.s later down the road to where it doesn't work and only the imei that's been sold on Google play works.

Lol. Yea that's what I was worried about. I didn't want to buy it then down the road oh yea this I.d. doesn't work anymore.

I did not register my device on T-Mobile at all. Just popped the other sims in.
What I'm told is that carriers only care about imei when activating for the first time. If you just put your own sim in there they just can't see the device type which really doesn't matter unless you're looking to call them for support.
T mobile store gave me **** about buying the phone out right. I had to get a friend to add me as an authorized user on his account to buy the phone OUTRIGHT. So stupid...
Also, at T-Mobile the phone out right was 649 where everyone else is like 50 or 40 bucks more which was also sweet.
I also did not get bloat Ware on the phone from the carriers.

The devices CDMA identifier (MEID??) needs to be in the carriers whitelist so if the OP didn't place a voice call over either the Sprint or Verizon networks itnis not "safe" to to say it works on all carriers.
This is supposed to be one model for all of the US with 4 SKUs for the variations, and it should work but there is still the question of whether the CDMA carrier. Allows the phone on their network.

I can confirm I've activated my nexus bought directly from moto on both sprint and T-Mobile. Both voice and data worked with each carrier. Sprint takes a little more when than just putting the Sim in. They need to activate the MEID in their system. You can't just put an active Sim from another phone in and have it work.

Yep, talking about Sprint. IIRC, there were multiple threads on here saying you can only activate on CDMA carriers if you buy from them or Google Play.

Buying from T-Mo living in a non-T-Mo area
Yes. I must be one of the only people on here in the U.S. not living in a T-Mo area.
I just ordered from T-Mo (64GB MB). After much conversation and clarification, I've learned that one can buy a Nexus 6 from them outright, which requires also buying a $10 SIM activation kit. Since I do not live in a T-Mo area, I will have to call and cancel my 'yet-to-be-activated' plan, which also required a $50 deposit. By utilizing T-Mo's "buyer's remorse", I will be able to keep the phone, since I bought it outright, but will be refunded my $50 deposit for the service, without ever having to activate it on T-Mo's network. From there, I will pop in my AT&T SIM card, and be on my way! The only thing I'll be out is the $10 SIM activation kit.
Also, the rep's did acknowledge that the Nexus 6 is one of the few phones they have that are already unlocked.
Please do critique this if you foresee any problems I'll have popping in my AT&T SIM and using my existing service with them.
EDIT: Yargh. T-Mo had zero 64GB phones, and have since called me back to tell me they are on back order. But hey... at least I have an order in now. Beats what I've accomplished so far on the Play store all to hell.

As far as I'm aware, Verizon comes under the same category. You should only be able to activate on Verizon if you buy the phone from Google Play or from Verizon.

That is what I have read. I am hoping by the 12/2 when I get my phone from Motorola I will have more options regarding Verizon.

I bought my device from T-Mobile, removed the T-Mobile sim it came with, put my Verizon sim card in, and it worked no problem. This happened with my phone on ATT as well. The guy next to me did the SAME EXACT THING on Sprint.
I am not BSing you guys in the least. I have no problem helping out in anyway I can. I'll even give you the number and the guy at the T Mobile store who watched us do it lol.

This is incorrect, it has been working for 3 years now. Data while on a phone call has been working since LTE came out. It worked on my Note 2, Note 3, and currently works on my Galaxy S5. Also works on my families HTC M7 and M8.
However, it no longer works on the Droid Turbo, and now I believe the N6.
But the original assumption was incorrect, data + voice has been working for years. They did something now that it is not working on new devices coming out.

If you don't know what you are talking about please do not respond. Way too much WRONG information out there concerning unlocking Sprint phones. Yes, this phone can be unlocked for GSM sim card use, as can every LG G-Series phone from Sprint starting with the G2. This can be proven with a quick google search so I wont bother with doing the leg work you obviously failed to do before you gave this person an incorrect answer. As for specific method for the G6, we are still working on it. You should check back with the forum periodically for updates.

Aren't there limitations in compatibility between Tmo networks and Sprint? Isn't the Sprint version CDMA based while the Tmo GSM? Or do they have both radios and it's merely enabling them?

Every Sprint phone since 2016 has GSM radios and the frequency bands necessary for T-Mobile (and AT&T). Normally to get Sprint phones unlocked they have to be paid for outright (no contracts or device payment plans remaining) at which point they normally unlock them automatically. If this criteria is all met, then you should be good to go by popping in a T-Mobile SIM. Otherwise if it's still locked then it most likely is still under payment. Past history with unlocking Sprint phones has proven it to be a difficult endeavor when going through third-party, so more luck to you if that's the route you have to go.

All Sprint phones capable of LTE are automatically unlocked after they are paid for and can be used on almost any GSM carrier as the bands usually match up. They have the SIM ports necessary for other networks, used for LTE capability on Sprint.

Easily unlocked

Sometimes if you just call Sprint and ask for the UICC unlock code they'll just give it to you.

It's automatically unlocked once it's paid off. If you got it as a gift, it's already unlocked.

Then you shouldn't be using the LS993...it's the Sprint version.

It's quite possible he got it as a gift from someone, and they used Sprint.

That's possible, and if they didn't unlock it then he should still be able to call Sprint and they'd probably give it to him if it's ESN is clear.

I have my phone unlocked by buying the service on the Ebay. It costs me $20.

No, you have to call to get it unlocked .
I paid off for ahwile , it never got unlocked.
Called Sprint INTERNATIONAL department, when finish the call, the phone rebooted and unlocked

Lg g6 and lg v30 now succussfully unlocked. Working on remote solution....not likely.
I have converted the LG G6 and LG V30+ from Sprint, model numbers LS993 and LS998 to unlocked firmware versions of the same phone, the AS998 and H873 versions. This is done with an unlocking tool, it is not free but the tool is well worth its salt..... This tool can be found with a bit of searching so I am not going to disclose it here and get this thread shut down or otherwise. Suffice it to say no IMEI change is required as has been erroneously stated elsewhere, the phone acts exactly like the stock version (with no bloat at all) as far as I can tell .......and I do this for a living.....lol. I am sending this reply with a Sprint V30 unlocked without Sprints help and on the Simple Mobile(T-mobile) network. Currently getting the expected throttled to 20mbps speed I've typically gotten with LTE on a T-Mobile mvno.
It does spike to 60+mbps before settling at 20 so the speed limitation is definitely the network(my cheap ass) and not the phone or flash.
I am working on a remote solution and will notify if I am able to overcome the speed requirement needed vs risk to phone brick ratio down to a level I feel comfortable with. I do NOT like not having the phone in my hand when working on it..... I would be happy to share info for shipping to my shop so that I can unlock your Sprint phones, feel free to message me.

Unlocked LG G6 US997 Won't Activate on Verizon, Advice Needed

I brought an unlocked LG G6 to Verizon store today to get it activated and they were unable to do this. It appears I have 3 options:
1. Return device to bhphotovideo.com. Not sure what their return policy is.
2. Switch from Verizon to T-Mobile. Live in Silicon Valley close to San Jose, California. Their network is probably fine here.
3. Get an imei from an Android device with nano sim. The Verizon tech person said if I had a friend or family member with this they could get the unlocked G6 working on Verizon. Trouble is that I do not know anyone with an Android phone with nano sim. My old G4 used micro sim. The friends and family members have either iPhones or older Androids with micro sim.
So I could really use some advice here.
And in addition let this be a warning to anyone trying to get unlocked devices working on Verizon. I had read elsewhere that Verizon was now more friendly towards unlocked devices, but this was clearly not the case in my experience. Perhaps this is one reason Verizon is starting to lose customers for the first time in its history.

Cut your old micro sim to nano size put it in the G6 and fire it up. Then your new G6 will work and be in the Verizon data base.
Than sometime go in to Verizon and get a new nano sim. I have been down this road with unlocked phones and its not LG it is Verizon.
If you want to use the old G4 again you need a nano to micro adaptor.
I am using the US997 G6 from BH right now but my old phone used the nano sim so I just had to swap it out. Works perfect so long as you start with a Verizon sim that is already activated.

Earlier this week I activated a new SIM/device with my ancient Galaxy S3 IMEI and verizon sent me a 3-in-1 card that I punched down to the nano size cutout. Which allowed me to put my US997 on the network.

By the way, can you share if VoLTE, WiFi Calling or Video Calling work?

I got this phone all I did was take my sim out of my iphone put it in the g6 and boom it works. Verizon has no idea I have this phone. Lol

Update: got the LG G6 working on Verizon after all. We had to make sure the LG G4 is powered down in order for the activation to complete since the G6 was replacing the G4 on Verizon. And boy do I feel like an idiot for not knowing that. Surprising most of the Verizon staff did not suggest to do this.

I received mine and activated it yesterday. VoLTE works perfectly. No Video/WiFi Calling though. I love this phone! No bloatware!

Are there any other differences between the US997 model and the Verizon VS988, other than lacking wifi calling? (I don't know anyone who actually uses verizon video calling, iphone people use facetime, and as android user I'd always just use duo, hangouts or skype)
How do you tst if VoLTE is working?

I'm also curious about this process. I've done a lot of searching, but haven't been able to find a direct answer yet.
I'm considering buying a Sprint G6, then unlocking it to use it on Verizon. Is this even possible? Obviously, they're both CDMA. And appear to have the bands necessary for Verizon. But I've had trouble in the past with unlocking Sprint devices to work on Verizon.
Any insight is greatly appreciated.

VoLTE worked out the box for me on Verizon. I just inserted my SIM and checked, and it was enabled. WiFi calling does not work on most unlocked phones, and the US997 unlocked edition is no different here. Video calling through the carrier does not work either.

That's great news that you got most of the functionality working, OP. Do you happen to know if the phone was factory unlocked? Or was it tied to a carrier, then unlocked afterward? Again, thanks for any additional info!

Unlikely to work. Stick with the unlocked version, model us997. Keep in mind Verizon sometimes blocks phones from their network that have the necessary hardware, like the ZTE Axon 7.

That's wrong. Im using Axon 7 on Verizon right now. No issues at all.
I really like the G6, not sure if i should get it. I have the Axon 7 as i stated above.

If you want OOB compatibility, the device must be certified through Verizon's Open Development process. See below.

OOB???
Axon 7 is just like Moto X Pure or this us997. They are unlocked with Verizon's bands. Stick an activated sim in them and they will work.

This is old. And only one build. I went through that. They fixed it right away. I had the phone since launch. MM was great out of the box, 7.0 had a hiccup with service, GSM sim after the update fixed it on 1st boot, then you could put your​ CDMA sim back in.
If you buy the device now, the 7.1.1 build will work out of the box.

If you look through the zte forums people have had a lot of problems getting the Axon 7 to work with Verizon. Anyway, I am glad to hear you got it working all right. I like the Axon 7 a lot but was not willing to go through the extra effort that others reported to get it working. And some people could not get it working at all, not a risk I was willing to take. I blame Verizon, I do not think they are supportive of unlocked phones.
