HD2 with Windows 7 with Simply Mobile - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

I am looking to get the Simply Mobile service with the HD2. I used the tzones hack and got 3 g service anyway with Tmobile when people are told it would not work. And Ive read that the Simply Mobile service runs on the Tmobile network.
So, my question is for those with a Simply mobile account, if I get the $50 dollar 2g speed service, will the HD2 read at 3g even though the service says it will only run on 2g like the Tzones did?
And...I notice that HD7 cannot get picture messaging from reading the Simply mobile website. Will the chances that the HD2 also not be able to get the MMS service?

Awesome. Looks like MMS works. Just playing it safe.

Can I use another phone to connect my phone to the Internet?

Hey,
My friend's phone has (free) Internet access. I doubt it's free but I know she doesn't have a data plan, and she claims she isn't getting any usage charges for accessing the Internet. She's had Cingular for a few years now. Do they offer pay-as-you-use Internet?
Anyway, I'm wondering if I could somehow establish a connection with her phone and then access the Internet. Possibly Bluetooth? I'm using the Wing (HTC Herald).
Generally phones that have BT can function as BT modem. The paring on your side should be pretty straight forward but setting up your friends phone (not a WM device right?) depends on its model.
Yeah I posted the message because I couldn't get it working. I thought I had everything set up correctly on my phone. I probably... I just have to set hers up correctly. She has a Nokia N75 - http://www.nseries.com/index.html#l=products,n75
Anyone have any experience with this?
Cingular does have pay as you go, it is very expensive like 1.5cents per k. This ads up in an awful hurry. If this is a new account for your friend, you should check online and see if she is racking up data usage. If so add a data plan before the billing cycle ends. Can be done through cs and they will make it retroactive.
N75 should work as a modem with the HTC Wing without a problem.
I rarely come up to see a data plan in US that have unlimited data access btw
Oh also btw, theres a simpler solution to just insert your friend's sim card into your T-mobile Wing (as long as its unlocked ). Cingular and T-mobile both use GSM anywayz (not like Sprint or Verizon using CDMA).

need help mobile provider messing me about

basically their network server has detected ive switched from my contract phone (nokia e71) to an "unsuported" 2g phone. so how it went was for the first week, 3g internet worked fine on my hd2 then the server decided my phone was only a 2g phone and decided to ensure compatability with my phone it needed to switch off 3g access to my phone. after a call to my operator (3) they are basically unwilling to do anything about it because its not on their list of approved phones.
My question is, is it possible to change how the device id is reported to the operator?

It's most likely tied in to the IMEI, so probably not.
That's tight as hell! Can't see how they can do that unless they feel they're 'protecting' their network
not good news at all really and yea its pretty crap of them to have a system that works like that. the "tech" guy said i was really lucky to have a non 3 phone that worked on 3g and that the server had picked it up and disabled 3g. asked if he could change the setting and all he said was ohh we cant do that youll need to put sim card in a 3 phone!

Tell them your 3-phone is being repaired and you will be using the HD2 in the meantime. If they do not assist cancel or refuse to pay your contract. If you're not getting access to the services you're paying for, I'd say they're in breach of the contract anyway.

Since when was an HD2 a 2g phone?
Switch back and get the 3G access and then use the HD2 in 3G mode. Or am I missing something?
I use 4 different phones (three of them so called "unsupported" phones) and two different internet modems on my 3 service and I have no such problem.
Why would they want to deny you the service that they have contracted with you to provide and for which you are paying?
It doesn't make sense!

Is this possible? (HD2 with Android using Tmobile prepaid)

Hi,
I usually just read this forum for fun, but now I want to get serious with modding my phone and tweaking it to my specifications.
I'm currently using a Blackberry with Tmobile's prepaid service. However, I'm tired of my small 2.5" screen. Hence the reason I'm looking at the HD2. I want to start using Android because of its flexibility with customization.
Here's my question: Can I buy a HTC HD2 off of eBay, flash it to Android, and then stick in my Tmobile prepaid SIM?
If I can do that, will I have a problem with the activation of the device? I wanted to buy a stock Android phone but I've read they require a SIM with a working data plan or borrow a SIM from somebody using an Android phone. (I don't have access to either).
Final question: Will MMS work on this device if I don't have a data plan?
Thanks!
You can use a prepaid tmobile with any android phone as long as its unlocked or locked to tmobile. If you already have an active sim, just stick it in and it'll work fine. You only need a data plan if you get a phone with a service plan from tmobile store... if you bought phone on your own, you dont need a data plan. I use my prepaid tmobile in my hd2, and just pay the $1.50 for the web daypass when I need data for the day. Not sure about mms without data... never use mms.
Yes. I have been doing this since I bought my phone. Just popped in my old prepaid sim and you're done. You don't have to activate the phone as long as your sim is active (phones with blocked imei excluded of course).
Can't answer the question on mms since I've never sent one. But I assume it's the same 25c they charge as per my prepaid agreement.
Thanks for your help. The only thing holding me back is I would greatly appreciate it if someone can confirm that MMS does not need a data plan. Once someone does, I'm getting it off eBay and then flashing Android!
Can anyone confirm it?
Thanks!
As of right now, I'm pretty sure mms requires a data plan.

you have to call tmobile to confirm. i know tmobile themselves do not require a data plan for mms to work. my son has a samsung lg that sends and recieves mms with tmobile and no data plan, however my daughter has a mytouch 3g and is unable to send and recieve mms. i contacted tmobile and they claim it is the specs of the phone that is the problem. give them a call they are very helpful, hell that is how i found out cotulla got nand finalized, while on the phone trying to fix daughters phone, the customer service rep was telling me about cotullas nand progress and even referenced xda. it was beautiful. good luck
Thanks for the help! I'll probably call Tmobile and do a little more research.
I did a quick Google search and realized that my Blackberry shouldn't be able to send and receive MMS's as well. I'm not sure why I can.
Do you think I should take a chance, buy one off eBay and see if it works?
sending mms on android REQUIRES data plan...i was able to receive mms but can't send without data plan. You Can always switch to window mobile to use mms. Android on hd2 comes rooted so no need for activation. You Can skip it or activate via wifi.
I think my brochure I had about prepaid t-mobile said mms was same price as sms if I remember right. With prepaid t-mobile we have access to t-zones without having to buy web daypass.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I know for sure that sending/receiving mms is listed on the prepaid package as 25c so it does not require a data plan (for prepaid). It probably goes through t-zones like the previous poster said.

I'll try out sending a mms tonight with my prepaid t-mobile and see if it works without data.
UPDATE: I just tested sending a picture with mms with my hd2 using prepaid t-mobile without being attached to WiFi or buying a web daypass, and it was successful. The 3g symbol popped up, so it did use data through tzones, but it didn't charge anymore than the 25 cents it costs to send mms.
I just started using prepaid tmobile about a month ago because I couldn't afford paying $80/month for the cheapest smartphone plan, and so far I'm very happy. I can pay $1.50 for the days I need data, which isn't often, as I'm usually around WiFi... and since I put $100 on my account to begin with, I only pay 10cents/min and my account will be good a year as long as I have credit. I only spent about $15 this first month of service! It works great for anyone on a budget like me.

if your HD2 is sim unlocked...i dont see any reason why putting the correct APN settings wont make it work....the best way to confirm....just TRY !!
I was told the hd2 does not need to be sim unlocked for simple mobile because simple mobile uses tmobile towers of something like that

indeed it does....
I have had Simple Mobile for almost 1 year and it works on TMobile locked phones...
No need to unlock...
I have used Simple Mobile with HD2 for months and never have had an issue.
This video was made using HD2 on Simple Mobile http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDwSAdC1-7w
Half the time, the people at the stores are idiots so I wouldnt trust their opinions.
Even the freaking iphone works on Simple Mobile (unlocked of course).

couple weeks ago, I actually grab my friend's simple mobile sim card and stick it in my hd2 w/ android (locked) and everything is working fine....so, CONFIRMED...
I have a t-mobile HD2 on simple mobile and everything works great. My HD2 is unlocked, so I cannot comment on weather it needs to be unlocked or not.
Be careful not to teather your phone or do wifi hotspots because simple mobile will kill your data. It is a violation of their terms and conditions. You get data for the phone not for your computer or any other device.

T-Mobile data weirdness

So I'm on the T-Mobile Pay As You Go plan as a Gold reward member. A few months ago I switched to the Samsung Exhibit II 4G because I was getting sick of my HTC Touch Pro2. My TP2 was a Sprint branded one that was unlocked and flashed with an unlocked radio that would let me use it on T-Mobile (the device is dual-mode CDMA/GSM). The weird thing is that I could access certain sites on that device, like the mobile version of Yahoo, that I can't access on my Exhibit II. Is it because T-Mobile recognizes my current device and is restricting access to it? It might be but I was also able to access the mobile version of Yahoo when I was toying around with an HTC HD2 (when it was running Android through MAGLDR). My plan shouldn't have any data at all but I can still access that site if I switch back to my TP2. Any one know what's going on?
Does it just flat out not load, or does it say you don't have a data connection?
It redirects me to a page saying I don't have data.

Hi, I think you have answered your own question. And that you found some kind of loophole. Obviously if you want data you should upgrade to a plan with data.
