Hi,
I'm new to this forum so please be kind
When I listen to MP3 I hear a high pitched whine as the player switches between songs. It only occurs for a second or two right before the music starts, is followed by some lower pitch crackling and then when the track is playing this high pitched noise is absent.
It's relative volume to the music is loud enough that it's pretty irritating.
Is this normal for the Xperia or should I be getting my handset replaced? It's an UK O2 xperia with the latest "leaked" rom loaded and using AKG k414p headphones
Thanks
Tome
First test it with different headphones. If it still occurs then, try another ROM.
This is not a generic bug, as I don't have the problem myself, nor have I seen anyone else post about it here (and trust me, if the problem arose more often, people would have).
So, test a few things and then come back to report =]
thanks
I've just checked with another set of headphones and I can still hear it
The problem occurs on both the original o2 rom and 1.03.931.8 which is the latest that i'm aware of.
I'll see if I can think of anything else to try.
Thanks
I think it is a general bug.
I know, my old SE W850i wasn't made by HTC, but it had the same issue.
It looks like a pink noise, and you don't hear it for very long, because after a few moments (1,5 sec or something) it just dies.. (Like a gate is fading it out)
Since it you can only hear it in a very quite place, it doesn't matter to me..
I'm not gonna use my X1 in places where I need high dynamics..
Have played about with it a bit more and found that the issue isn't as apparent at all when using the player on the Media Panel. I was previously using Pocket Player.
Hi!
Just to confirm: I Have that high pitched noise too. Just two seconds before next track starts.
No changes between R1AA and R2AA. Actually using Pocketplayer as SRSWOW HD disabled Windows Meadia Player Volume Control. Music on 8GB SDHC Card.

I got my xperia replaced and it would appear that my original handset was faulty. With the new one i can still hear a very quiet and very high pitched whine when it loads up the next track but this noise is in conspicous enough that i can live with it.
The original handset has a much louder high pitched pink noise and also noise like static, so if you're experiencing something like that you should get your handset replaced
looks like i spoke too soon.
This handset has also developed the popping static noise that the previous unit had looks like this could be a generic Xperia fault. It really is quite odd that it would work fine for a day and then develop the same fault as the previous unit.
I experience the same high pitched noise in my swedish X1. It seems to get a little less noticeable when using bigger headphones, but with IEMs it's pretty pronounced but yet acceptable. Another thing that is much more annoying is the cutting out in the beginning and end of songs. Is there a way to get gapless playback in TF3D mode (skinned wmp?) on the X1?
:-O
amazingly.... the file seek noise has been eliminated after I installed Touch-it v7!!!!
I'm happy with the x1 as a music player now but it does beg the question "why can't SE sort it out!!!" as it's evidently more likely a software issue rather than a hardware issue.
I have found a possible flaw in the design of the phone that might be possible to fix.
The earphone speaker loudness is crap its not even considered loud or above hearing when im listning to music i can hear everyone talking ect ect
now here is the weird thing see if you answer a call or make a call the music cuts off and you have your chat then once you hang up or they hang up
music will then resume but this time it will be WAY WAY better and Sound better and louder, the way its ment to sound.
now if you pause the music then unpause it goes back to this low sounding music again.
PLEASE can someone fix this as its ruining my music listning though i dunno about the rest of you lol
I'm running 3.1 and having no issues at all with headset volume while listening to music. Tried to pause and unpause, volume stayed the same, nice and loud. FM radio has nice loud volume too.
I have the same strange issue... at first I cleaned my in ear headphones (because on 2.9.11 they were louder)
but at the same day in noticed the sound improvement after ending up a call and was very confused :S
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
try an full wipe an install ARVHD 3.2 maybe it fix your issue
it's a known issue in froyo based roms (stock included), gingerbread released is free of it, and you can buy a app from the market "volume boost", that "fix" it...

Hi there!
I have a problem with sound quality ,I mean that while I listening music I hear a sth like... "creaking". Of course I using PowerAMP application set "BASS EXTREME".
How I can solve this really annoying defect? I can`t listen music because of that.
I add that compression of my music is 320 kb/s 44 Hz in stereo so it is not its fault. I guess. And also I using brand headphones from Panasonic.
How can I get a sound effect like MEGABass from Sony Ericsson Walkman phones without creaking? PowerAMP bass is another , worse ?
I would be very grateful if You would reply as soon as possible. Thanks in advance.
PS I`m sorry from my English.
Actually X8 have very, very good sound card. Your problem is probobly related to headphones quality or mp3 loudness (check with mp3 gain for Windows)
Another thing is, your headphones are not so good for bass.
Turn down your bass a little bit.

Well don't have a sound issue with my x10. However when it comes to loudspeaker, guess it's too low. Its ok i think since i am always using an earphone.

I don't know why, but i feel, that stock SE music player plays music better, than other music players like powerAMP.
Try to use stock player with stock headphones
I think it is problem of stock ROM. I had X10 mini pro and it sounded great on my Koss Porta pro. With X8 everything sounds much worse, even in PowerAmp. But when I use custom rom (e.g. Gingerbread), sound is much better. So it is not kernel problem, it is something within X8 and W8 system sound layer.

I bought this headphones ( Panasonic RP-HJE120) because I have hear about that this earphones have really deep , point bass. So I don`t know.
When I turn bass off I still hear this "creaking". And I listen music with about 45% volume. I don`t know why ,but I think that my old w910i was better for music.
I try with mp3gain ,thanks.

X10 is probably more polished up.
Sony Ericsson made a lot of best phones ,also it is my favourite brand of mobiles and music always was really, really good especially for Walkman phones (=MegaBASS) ,but now i don`t know what i think...

I feel the same. The music is considerably better but... without any bass.

So I should change ROM? I`m kinda scared that i lose my gurantee.
Thanks everyone for answers !
If you turn down volume it's just lowers the output signal, but if you check the equalizer settings in PowerAmp, you'll find a bar next to the equalizer (marked as grey). With this bar, you can actually set the music INPUT signal's strenght (same as Winamp on PC: next to the EQ bars there is a preamp bar that if you pull stonger, no matter what loud is the sound output, the music will gets cracky), so, if you lower this, the crackling will be gone. Then you can turn up the volume as you want. Try it out!
Hi! thanks. You know,I did it before, and "creaking" gone and... bass too. . I don`t know what happen ,but speaker start creaking. I think that it burnt. I really take care of my X8 and why it be burn? I`m really disappointed of this phone and SE.
You said the speaker? No, it doesn't burned, it's just can't stand low frequencies. BTW the phone's speaker is the best I heard for now. It has got deeps, has got highs and mids. Ok, it's not a 1000W poweramp, but for a phone, it sounds really good... without any equalization.
BTW if you listening to music with a handsfree, then you have to lower the preamp, and after this, give it the bass EQ. Just don't forget, nowadays the music tracks are on maximized volume, so any additional volume to the waveform is fatal to the sound quality, and when you raise the "bass" you just give a volume boost to the low frequencies, that's why you must lower the preamp bar!
No,no,no I`m sorry I didn`t explain exacly. I went yesterday to kinda ran and while I`m at it I switch on the radio in half volume. In beginning everything was ok but next suddenly speaker made a weird noises and then it... turn off. Now it doesn`t work, I don`t hear anything except this noises. I don`t know why... its really strange. Did it burn right? I have to go give it to guarantee
Anyway if as far as sound quality in headphones is concerned, I got the lowest preamp bar ,how I can and actually creaking decreased but I still hear sth in back of waveform. I expect that is a compression of the mp3 . Mp3 is a lossy compression but what happen if I convert it to *.ogg ? It will be different - better?
Have you got DSP effect on?
Yes, I have. Now I don`t hear even any ringtone... . I forgot give you a "thanks"
No need to thank, because I couldn't help you. Maybe you're right, and the speaker died in your phone, but the last chance is that you disable every DSP effects. If it doesn't work, then try to install another ROM. Then if the sound remains silent, you have got bad luck: install original ROM with SEUS, and throw the phone in the place where you bought it. I'm sure you've got warrantee, so they will change the speaker for free.
BTW I suggest you to get LOSLESS (FLAC) music files, and conver them to m4a. M4a's compression is far better then MP3, and not to mention it is a free format, unlike MP3!
And I think you'll always will hear a ssshhh noise in the background, because of the mobile phone's electricity. It's like if you use an integrated sound card on PC: every little voltage that flows through the parts of the phone will make some noise. It's a normal thing.
Hi,
At first you told that you didn`t help me, but you help me! and wasting your time to answering to me. I`m appreciate it
I gave my x8 to SE service, and they took it and they announced that the speaker is broken. I must to waiting for week...or two. If they will return it I will try with *.m4a and *.ogg (vorbis) format. When I playing without DSP effects sound is devoid of bass, and the stock player have still more pure sound. Who knows ? maybe I`m demanding too, but it strange ,coz my old walkman phones are satisfied me ,so ... I don`t know what to think about it. Its a pity that SE won`t produce next Walkman phones, I really valued it. W8 is pseudo-walkman, oh please! who making a music phone without EQ ?
I`m sorry for off-topic ,but I read that SE finalizing their update for our handsets. But this topic currently was deleted at Facebook. X8 will get upgrade to next android version ?
Hi, I have a SE Xperia 10 with android 2.2.1, Rooted ofcourse. Cynogenmod 6.1.3 v4.3 installed.
I have 2 issues with my X10. Firstly, The in call volume is too low. I have to stand in a quiet place only to hear what is being said. If im in my car, i cannot hear anything unless i close all the windows. Its pretty annoying. The volume is at full but its still not high enough. Is there any fix for this?
Secondly, When playing music i feel the same issue. I have my earphones connected but the sound at full is again too low. I dont feel any bass and listening to music is just not fun. The sound is not high enough and if i try to increase it with the equalizer, the sound distorts. Again, is there any fix for this?
Thanks !
Regards.
When I am on the phone, I can hardly hear the person on the other end that I am talking to and they usually complain about not being able to hear me. This usually ends up in me having to put the phone on speaker phone, but then they have a even hard time trying to hear me...this is really frustrating. I have the volume turned up to the max in both situations.
I am running PA 3.15 and Franco's latest nightly if that makes a difference. I also use Audio mod ( believe its called LOUDER or something, it's one of the popular ones on this forum) but I believe that only has to do with headphones, bluetooth connected devices, and the speaker for playing music. My ringtones are extremely loud, playing music on it is just fine, but in call audio sucks bad.
Anyone else experience similar issues or know of a fix?
