Hopefully a dumb question. When enabling the GSM radio 'Flight Mode Off' I see a G symbol appear in the top start bar for a second and then vanish.
Can anyone confirm if GPRS is actually being activated and then shutdown? The reason I ask is that my carrier has me on a 'casual' usage rate which means I get charged .22c each time I establish a GPRS connection. This could get a little pricy if it is momentarily opening a GPRS session for some reason.
I also see a G symbol in the Connectivity bubble, beside my carriers name. Does this simply mean that the service is GPRS enabled?
G Icon
I think - but I am not sure - that the icon is an indication that GPRS is available, but not established.
Regards
Michael
it means that the line ofer grps
and that grps can be started but it's not shown when grps is
running
Thanks for the feedback guys, I really appreciate it.
Who know what is the icon "G" for ? next to the signal icon & speaker

even I do not have GPRS setup on my XDA2?
Apart from the setup, the network is all around you. So: YES, the Radio detects it and then shows this 'G'. Maybe it even stands for 'Gee look what I found: GPRS availability'
On my MDAI & II this Icon is shown when i connect to a GPRS Network, not when it is found.
The G appears when a GPRS network is detected as being available for connection, regardless of whether you are connected or not.
Patrick, this sounds different for you, maybe your ROM/Carrier has something we don't.
cheers,
Alex.
I also tried my XDA3 and it is the same. When i boot th device and it is logged on to the network i just get the signal strength.
When i then start a connection(over the ConnectionManager or the RasApi, same behavior) the G Icon is shown when connection starts.
Weird, my G always appears just after I switch the phone on when I wake up in the morning. I never connect my GPRS unless I need it - worried about frying my nuts when the xda is in my pocket (you never know, I might need them again one day).
rgds,
Alex.
Hi,
On my device and all our local phone network here. You will only get the "G" icon only if you have subcribe to the service. The general observation is that the icon will stay for about 5 to 10 second after the phone radio is switched on and disappear afterwards. You can also check it by clicking the signal strength icon.
The correct term should be "attached".
By default, your phone will search for GPRS on radio start, and when it finds the one you belong to, it attaches to the GPRS network -- thus the symbol "G".
But this doesn't mean you're connected, only that you're ready. You are only connected to the GPRS when you click Connect ...etc, when a username & password is verified.
So, generally speaking, you'll need to see the "G" before you can go online on GPRS.
basically it just tells you that GPRS is available.... if your connected you'll see the two arrows above the signal icon in the taskbar instead of the antenna shaped one...
stable connection in "H" mode - as long as there is no connection interruption
Hi together,
I have the following issue with my HD2:
I have a stable data connection in mode "H" as long as there is no connection interruption. After new connect I have only "3G" and if for example the weather is updated or the browser is opend it changes for a short time to "H". Afterwards the mode is "3G" again. This remains until I start the HD2 again!
Any help?
thanks and cheers,
alkorsi
3g and H keep switching depending upon signal strength to edge and gprrs too, but i dont think there is any real speed difference practically between 3g and H (though H is called as 3.5G)...may be your carrier is not Hsdpa/HSPA enabled?

Try to choose your network manually and enable roaming. I have to do this because my network provider (saunalahti) uses another network (Elisa).
i had some network issues since 2.10, i couldnt search for networks. so i am sticking with 2.09 wich works ok
edit:
oh and also try fresh install, with wipe and all. not just upgrade
Well connecting to wireless network worked fine until yesterday.I wanted to connect to found wireless network which had excellent signal in local cafee (where previously my N7 worked normally),and my nexus 7 connected to it,but that icon of wireless was still gray and there was in it like an arrow blinking (the icon wasn't blue like it should be).The strength of signal was excellent, nexus 7 connected to it in few seconds but I couldn't open any website despite that.
What could be the possible problem and what should I do?
I tried second found network which had less signal strength but it happened the same.
In second local caffee I just got message obtaining IP adress and it hangs there.
