DHD battery life - Desire HD General

can someone help me with the battery life on my htc desire hd i want better battery life without dissabling features, thaanks in advance

Well, there are many factors to getting good battery life.
Matching Radio/RIL can be a good start, especially if rooted.
Definitely ROM's also have a big part.
Overall usage will also bare a pretty big footprint.
I get about 18 hours on a typical work day, with moderate usage which is generally enough for going to work, coming home, and then still have plenty of battery left when I'm ready to go to bed, which is obviously when I charge my phone.

Define "disable" and "features".

disable automatic synchronization and shine

+1 there's nothing wrong with setting your Facebook, Twitter, Email, background syncing, weather etc to less frequent but it will obviously give you more battery life than syncing every 5 minutes, common sense really. An app to preserve battery I have found is Apndroid. Have the widget on your home and you can use 3G when you need it rather than not.

I disable automatic sync of all apps. I only update manually when I use them.

if you can echo all the timings I've been disabled, the sync I maualmente when I access the email application, facebook, etc. .. tweteer

have you rooted your phone? which rom are you using? some details will be appreciated...

tried custom roms? i usually get better battery life with them,
also setting off auto brightness helps a lot for me.

Green power free, its amazing my battery lasts at least 60% longer with this app, amazing get it

hey, mate... you've got some very generic question... specific info like ROM you're using, Radio, Kernel would bring justice for members to give you some more specific help.
This probably might help:
ROM CoreDroid 7
Radio 12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2 - (HTC Ace Gingerbread S Generic 2.36.0)
RIL_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2
Kernel LeeDrOiD GB V3.1.6 - 2.6.35.13 BFS KERNEL (thanks to LeeDroid)
Live wallpaper Nexus Revamp
disabled wifi, refresh, gps (used powercontrol widget for accesibility).
After flashing, my battery was drained in 5 hours even after an overnight full charge.
then followed scabes24 tips on FAQs >>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858418 (thanks scabes24)

Cyanideskittle2010 tips will prove really helpful. tweak around phone settings which are my priorities... things i don't normally use disabled them, enabled them when i need to.
also, installed cpu clocking, initially used setcpu, then moved up to cputuner which gave me more options... juicedefender also can help if you prefer it. setcpu or cputuner are both available in market.
gave my phone 24 - 48 hours, after battery calibration, full batterystats wipe, now i am good at 30 hours battery time.
used to have 36 hours battlife but was using CoreDroid 6.7 then... shifted to CoreDroid 7 because i just love its UI.
hope this helps! credits to all xda cooks & chefs, sergio76, coredroid team etc..

the new honeysense 6.0 rom has a extremly good battery life. i wiped the battery stats and now my battery lasts abaout 2 days instead of one

I'm using CM7 Nightly #108 with LorDModUE V4.5.1 (Killersloth's PUV) and Radio 12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2. Great Batterylife compared to stock rom. I lose only 1-2% over night.

Don't want to steal your post but i just have a question haha.
I ordered a battery off eBay the new battery runs on 1600mAh while the original battery goes on 1230 mAh. Should i worry about battery stats i should wipe after replacing the battery or something like that ?

I think it's better to wipe when the phone is fully charged (test with currentwidget) but i think to best is to use the original battery. It can damage your phone and I often read that those batterys don't have more power than the original.

Is it normal that from full battery after night I have only 50%? Extremely strange for me... I have ARHD 5.1.10, ANDIDA 1800 mAh

i am using ARHD, it has good battery life. Works for me

Battery Life Horrible

this just started starting recently.
battery drops 5% under 1 min without even use of the phone. on standby.
im on royal panache.
ran battery dry than charged it back to 100% and did battery calibration. still horrible!!
any suggestions?
Check battery usage under settings see what's using it up. also check your CPU settings. Although I've had that kind of battery drain. Sense just hands down has terrible battery life. Go AOSP.

Whats a rogue app? And how do you get over 24 hours on battery life?
yeah Sense does drain the battery, but the UI is just awesome IMO. I get roughly 19hrs on a full charge with moderate usage(deleted bloatware, setcpu profiles) whereas on AOSP I would get 25+hrs on a full charge with same usage. really, the 'display' is the battery killer on sense. try to lower your backlight brightness, no window animations, and lower the screen timeout to see if that helps you

An app written badly enough to cause CPU to hang in 100% (sometimes it hangs the system, and then the system shows 100% CPU constant usage).
Happened sometimes to me on Nexus. Sometimes can also be caused by restoring system data from backup, if the system data isn't fully compatible.
When I almost don't use the phone - I can probably get past 40 hours of uptime before needing recharge, since the idle drain is somewhere between 1%-2% an hour for me. When I use it heavily (GPS) - I expect it to drain the hell out of battery after 6-7 hours of continued use, and no build would do better, Sense or no Sense. When tethering - it can last towards 10 hours (tethering drain is ~10-12% per hour too). My usage is light, I'm always on auto-brightness, I'm not overclocking, so generally I get the phone to recharge in the evening with half the charge still there - unless I tether for a couple of hours during the day and have several long calls, and in that case I'm charging it 18 hours later with ~20% left.
Ah, and I use customized Royal Panache.

1- if ur using 4g turn it off while not in use.
2. edit the sync options and make it longer or manual.

Best battery saving settings..?

Rom: unity 1.29
Kernal:unity V4
Radio: stock gingerbread
Set CPU: wake 1.1GHzmax - 245MHz min.. sleep 368max - 245min
So I recently came to the conclusion that it doesn't matter what Rom I use (sense or asop) that I always have horrible battery life.. I maybe get 4-6 hours of battery life with moderate to heavy use.. I was just wonder what is the best way to set up my phone to get the most out of my battery.. I've used the battery calibration app for all 3 of my batteries and nothing still get the same out of it.. yes I have 3 batteries but if they all die extremely fast whats the point? I've also used juice defender but that only helps if I don't use the phone..I've seen posts of people supposedly using the **** out of there phone and going a full 24 hours.. I just want to know what your settings are if it helps me at all.. oh I also know that T-Mobile recently had or still has 4g network problems but my battery drain has been going on forever ever since I got the phone when it came out.. thanks in advance for the help guys and girls

What i have been doing to counter the 4g problem is use 2g for non phone use times and 4g when i actually need to download or use mobile data. Ive also heard that auto brightness helps drain the battery faster than without. autosync settings can be important too. dont have it sync everything if you dont need it to. I get a long time on my battery and usually set it on the charger at night with 30-40% left.
edit: you didnt list the governer you are using. I use smartass or conservative for screen on or off and they help keep the clock speeds down if you arent doing something heavily dependant on phone speed like a game. Also when you say your radio is stock gingerbread, do you mean the newest leak one or stock that came with the phone? I have found the panache to give me the best reception which in turn saves the phone from draining itself from trying to find a signal.
Whoops New I forgot something..yeah my governors are smartass for when screen on and conservative when sleep.. when I say stock gingerbread radio I meant the link before the panache radio
I got my best battery life using faux123's AOSP roms, and his latest kernel has an undervolted version which makes it waste less battery without taking any toll on the performance. I don't particularly like the sense roms too much because I feel like they drain my battery power faster than aosp ones, and I don't even use all the features to their fullest extent.

I've heard the same thing as well actually. Personally I keep my brightness at minimum all the time(10%), but you could try 25% if that's too dim for you. 40%-60% is usually bright enough to see clearly on even the brightest days too, and I'm one of the unlucky people with a bad screen.
I'd also recommend downloading Muzikant's "AutomateIt" app and setting up some rules. I recommend setting rules that will brighten your display for apps that really need the light(Netflix, Camera, Gallery), and then dimming it back down once you close the applications. You can have it turn off your data and syncing and other such things under specific conditions and times as well, which can help your battery life immensely, and without you actively having to do anything.
And I guess you could try flashing a new radio as well. You might have to test out each one for a few days to notice the differences between them but eventually you'll find which one works best for your area and phone.
If the batteries you're using isn't the stock one, most likely those batteries will die out really quick. They don't hold their charge that well.

[Q] battery life

I`ve just rooted my defy and am thinking of installing a custom rom.
Can anyone tell me whether I would get better or worse battery life than with stock (I realize that not all custom roms are the same but on average are they better or worse for battery ?)
Thanks
Jeff
well if you read around everyone suggests that this rom is better then the other, but well to each his own.
what you could do is figure out which rom you like and install it.
the battery backup on froyo vs any custom i have tried, froyo wins hands down.
there are many apps in the market which will help you get an increased battery life and figure out where exactly your having issues or which app is giving you that head ache, eg: juice defender
so you will, inevitably get a pretty decent battery backup!
hope this helps!
Thanks for that.
Do you mean froyo stock has good battery life or one of the froyo custom roms?
Jeff
WIUI has an excellent battery-life!
I have battery problem on every custom or stock ROM... tjis is what i get with no use of phone.. i tried to calibrate battery but again there was no improvement...

Your signature says that you have OC'd to 1.2ghz. This could be the problem.
CM7.1 stable, with moderate use, wifi always on, some 3g: battery lasts ~4days
i believe stock froyo has the best battery life. with custom roms, my vote goes to miui. but i'm on cm7 for its performance, and still with good enough battery life.
Early CM7 gave me around 4 days, currently on the latest nightly 111123 which is about 2 days, which is still fine for me, especially given the performance boost it gives the phone.

MS2Ginger 2.0 had better battery life then 2.1...Im using 2.1 now and I have only 32h of battery with the same usage of phone like on 2.0 where I had >60h of battery life.
Ill do one more time recalibration of battery and check it but for now, I think that new Bootmenu is the one thing that fcked up battery life (since clk3 and clk4 are equal and both are 1000, but in previous bootmenu u could put clk3=800 and clk4=1000).
Will track battery life more.
I like 2.1 so fckin much so I'd like to have 60h of battery life again.
MS2ginger2.1=MS2ginger2+patches. it shouldn't consume more power. I think that setting clk2 to 600MHz is a bad practice. Try clk2=800MHz instead.

[Q] Battery useage questions

Finally got my desire z, it came with 2.3.3 unfortunately. So as yet not rooted or anything as I don't have the time just now.
Was just wondering what people's current drain was, mine seems to be around 32mA on standby which shoots up to between 200-350mA with screen on, brightness at 12%.
1. Would this be considered normal for stock?
2. I also am having the dialler high useage issue, tried most of the fixes but still quite high, was this ever resolved properly?
3. Thinking of romming to virtuous sense 2.0 if it will improve the battery drain, can some of you give rough screen off current drain figures please? Especially sense based roms as that's what I would be using.
Thanks.
I used the 1350mAh battery for a long time and then finally caved in to get a Mugen Power 1800mAh. Since then Sense based or not my drain doesn't go below 15% for a full day Wifi (always on), Data (always on - when no WiFi) and Bluetooth on for 6 hours (during travelling).
I would suggest you do the same to get the peace of mind everyone deserves but HTC wasn't caring enough to pack in.
With a 1800mAh battery you don't even have to worry about anything, no matter what you try.
Interesting. It really makes that much of a difference does it?

Here's a tip, you really don't need much brightness indoors and turn off GPS, wifi when not using it, and screen timeout to like 1 minute.

I'm using bulletproof miui and my standby sits around 28mA with around 150-250 mA regular use. My battery lasts a full day with medium usage (4h screen on, wifi on, 18-20hrs unplugged total). I would say you're sitting a bit high with your battery consumption and could benefit from an undervolted kernel. I have my cpu clocked at 1ghz max these days..
Hope that helps!

I'm thinking my battery just hasn't settled yet as I'm using the battery monitor app and it tells me I'm getting a 32mA draw with screen off but my battery is lasting only around 18 hours with light use and a lot of standby time. For a rough calculation: 1300mAh/32mAh = 39ish hours (standby), deduct 10 hours for messing around, I should be getting at least 24 hours I would think (very rough calculation).
Have only charged it maybe 5 times so far, its probably still being worn in as it seems to drain damn quick on standby at 32mA.
Possibly, do you know your voltage levels for each clock speed? I can get a good 35+ hours with light use and standby at night (~3 hours screen on with wifi connected always)

I'm still on stock just now. Just realised that 'always on mobile data' was on, so I have turned that off as my sync apps will still work and I don't use push email. I'll try that over the next few days and see if it makes a difference as well as the battery getting charged with more cycles to break it in.
If that still leaves it to be desired, then I'm gonna put virtuous sense 2.0.0 on and use underclocking as that made a massive difference with my old wildfire.
What rom are you using bik_jack?
I'm using bulletproof miui but was getting roughly the same voltage numbers with cm7 nightlies before I switched to bulletproof in June.
Both underclocking down to 368mhz with the default undervoltage settings used in tsubus' kernel.

i made a barebones stripped ROM based on the newest tmo OTA, i made optimizations to get better battery life, and stripped tons out to get the most ram possible, and keep the ui fast and snappy.
my newest version 1.3, offers the best battery life in any rom that i have ever used, its super fast (no need for OC), offers the most free ram and is located here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1324616
give it a try! im sure it will get u more battery life
Of course, now I've realised that my network (3uk) no longer have a 2g contract with orange, so all this setting does for me is stop me receiving txts and calls with it off. Tch. Looks like I will be trying virtuous after all.
The standby battery drain doesn't make sense at all, almost like my battery isn't really 1300mAh.
I use an Anker 1600mAh battery that I got off ebay in my DZ. The seller had a sale of 2 going on for $15, not a bad deal. link to it is here
It's listed for the Incredible 2 / Incredible S, but it seems those batteries are a perfect fit for the Desire Z / G2. Doesn't need any aftermarket casing or modding.
Right now, I am using the ICS beta by tazinator and yesterday I got ~12-13 hours of playing around with it very heavily. My battery can last 22-28 hours with moderate and light use on a normal day.
Sadly, I don't have any if those issues you listed, Dialer usage and such even with CM7. Used to use virtuous sense but went over to AOSP/CM7 instead. Found AOSP being more nicer on the battery, but that's just my feeling - I tend to think Sense drains more battery.
Yeah I think sense is a bit worse on the battery but I've really come to love sense, never really got on with cyanogen roms.
Turns out I was wrong about the data always on and my provider, it all works so I'll keep testing that before I start with roms.
I know mugen batteries are supposed to be good, any other recommendations for brands? I'll check the link out.
UPDATE: If battery monitor is to be believed, my global standby estimate is increasing with every charge, so maybe it is just a case of breaking the battery in. Now at 21.5hrs, I'll continue to monitor the situation, this might also be due to the change of data setting as well.

[Q] Battery life very bad on CM7

Hi everyone,
I have a big problem of battey usage on Android...
I flashed the NexusHD2 rom in a first time and i realised the battery life was very bad ! (I lost 3% for 5 minute of use !)
I flashed the famous Typhoon CM7 rom and it's the same...
My Radio is 2.15.50.14 and i use CLK.
Thanks for your help
Try a different kernel. That helped in ICS, so after some trial-error you should find a good one.

I use Hyperdroid w/ seader r9 kernel. I get pretty decent battery life with it. But you also have to remember that the HD2 is a bit older so it has a smaller battery and less power-efficient parts.

A bit?! Lol that would obviously help a lot. I'm not quite sure how accurate CurrentWidget is, but in terms of standby battery drain I get 5ma drain with wifi on on my phone. On the same settings on my Mum's Desire S she gets 26ma. However she gets great battery life, which I would only guess is due to the larger battery (and the fact that she barely knows how to use the phone, so the screen isn't on very much at all).

However she gets great battery life, which I would only guess is due to the larger battery (and the fact that she barely knows how to use the phone, so the screen isn't on very much at all).

I use batterymonitorwidget pro. And i get around 5ma with wifi and cellular on.
Try using an app called JuiceDefender - it works really well at extending battery life. It basically lets you tweak loads of options to do with data and syncing, so you can have it set that data doesnt run when certain apps are open, or data is off when the screen is off, etc.
There's an ultimate version available, but it is £4.99 from the play store. But I guess that'd be cheaper than a new battery?
The same problem occured to me a few weeks ago. I have been using HyperDroid-CM7 which worked quite decent for 5 or 6 months and had very good battery life. ABut a few weeks ago suddenly the battery life became to awfuly decay, wasting 20% of the energy for idle hour instead of the normal 1-2. I changed the rom to the NexusHD2 ICS port and the battery life slightly improved but rhe problem stays the same. Could it be because the battery itself is broken or some software calibrations are needed (I haben't done any for an year since I bought the device)
