[Q] Moving from 8gig micro sd to 16 Gig. Anything to consider? - EVO 4G General

Hey guys I am upgrading my self from 8 Gig micro SD to 16 gig. Can I just copy stuff from my 8 gig to 16 Gig and things will work smoothly?
I have read some places about partitioning SD card. What is partitioning sd card and how it is done if it is necessary.
I am using VirusROM kingdom B1.3. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Copy and paste.
Partitioning is done via Recovery. It's brain dead simple, just follow the steps. It's up to you to decide if you want to do it. It will just be extra space for apps (most likely, not sure about what Kingdom ROM uses it for)
Tip: Partition before you move stuff over. Partitioning will erase everything on your SDcard.
EDIT: reaper24 wrote up a guide for newbies. HERE

You use amon recovery to partition your sd card. Something to consider is that it will take forever to transfer tiny files to your new sd card. Just transfer only what you need.
Btw you don't need to partition unless you consistently run our of room for applications. If you don't don't bother in my opinion. Also if you do partition its best to use dark tremors a2sd lots of documentation on it. Or make sure you are on a rom with the a2sd script because the froyo method blows. Breaks widgets and such. Just annoying.
Hope that helps.

Semi-hijack alert!
Is there any easy way to know what can be REMOVED from the SD card periodically, like directories left over from old apps that aren't installed anymore?

[Q] How to change SD card

I would imagine this is a fairly common question, but I can't seem any threads about it, and the forum search isn't working for me.
I have Liberated Froyo on my Aria.
It currently has the 2gb SD card from AT&T, and I want to swap it with a 16gb I have.
There are some apps installed on the SD card.
I was wondering if anyone knew what I have to do to switch the cards while still keeping all of my apps/settings/files intact.
Thanks.

Copy the of old sd card to your computer. Then format your new sd card and paste the contents of your old card to your new one.
I would imagine you should move move your apps back to the phone, but I'm not sure if that's necessary.
But those steps will ensure you don't lose anything.

Alright thanks.
I had seen something about having to do different partitions with different file systems if there were apps installed on the SD card.
The current card is formatted in FAT, so just use that?

Why my HD2 android won't start with my SD card?

My HTC HD2 works with my Transcend 4 GB microSD card, but it won't android won't boot up with my 8 GB Verbatim microSD card. Do I need to format it or something? Thanks!
Are you sure you have the correct set up ? (Files are copied to their destinations)
Try to format it to FAT32, and try again.
I`have just formated it to FAT32 and still the same problem. What files are you talking about?
PS: Sorry to bother you with "stupid" questions, I am pretty noob in this
I have read that Verbatim SDCards can cause problems in the build; booting or running, SanDisk is your best bet, but you may still be able to get it running,
Im not a dev; just brought SanDisk as a result of this,

It depends on many factors. Which Android Rom do you want flash, does this need Ext 3/4 Partition on the SD Card ? Do you have flashed the right partition size ? Read the installation instructions of Rom you wants to flash, there you mostly find all information.
Are you talking about NAND or SD? If NAND, make sure the ext partition is set up correctly, as this is where a lot of the apps are stored. If SD, then I would assume you know how to install an SD build so it could be a problem with the SD card being incompatible as alex.odell.2011 said.
I've had similar problems sometimes with my SD card; my HD2 wouldn't boot unless I took the card out then put it back in once it was booted. The only thing that I thought might cause it is something CWR related on the SD card, since I had used it in my Hero and Droid 1 as well to flash ROMs to them. It was a class 4 16 GB Sandisk, if that helps at all.

using sd card as internal storage?

hello everyone,
i got a little question.
i'm gonna buy a 16 or 32 gb micro sd card pretty soon, but is there a possibility to use the external sd card as internal storage? so that way it is easier to install apps on it,because now i first have to install them on internal storage and than move which gives me alot of problems at the moment. so is there a tweak or something to make the phone assume that the external sd card is internal storage to?
thanks in advance,

try and search for m4uik app2sd method i think it may help you but i don't knew about what u said
Should see the following topic:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1317362
I recommend install "Mini tool partition wizard" and try with video made for wwenigma:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaiAfQXUHiA
and good luck and thanks to wwenigma for the video, and developers but ours GT540 would be dead
i knew about the swap thing, but that's not really what i mean, thanks anyways. and app 2 sd is not what i want, i can already install apps on my sd card, but i want my phone to use the sd card as internal space. is there any way to do that? i saw it for other devices, but i didn't see it for our gt540 yet. i may have missed it though so thats why im asking.
like link2sd ????
thats not entirely what i mean, but its getting there , thanks.
what i mean: our phone has like 150 mb internal storage approximetly, i want to turn that into something like 4 gb by making the phone use the sd card as internal storage. my question is: is that even possible with the gt540? i saw that it's possible with other devices, but it seems like the solution are device specific so that's why im wondering if there is anything like that for the gt540.
I know what you mean but link2sd does just that.... partition and formant the sdcard to ext3 for use to install apps
alright, that i misunderstood that link2sd does. sorry guys and thanks
We all learn
just one more question. im doubting between ics and gb atm. for daily use im still on gb, but i may be switching to ics pretty soon. does link2sd work with ics?
I don't think so.....and ICS is in early development not good for daily use.

[Q] SD card space

Under storage settings.
Shows me SD Card total space 116MB Available space 12.52MB. My SD card was a 32 gig class 10.
Internal storage 4.9GB
Available space 4.33GB
Also C7 will boot without memory card in it. My cousin helped me root it and we used the SD card to root it. According to him I should be able to take the SD card out and boot into the normal NOOK settings. This correct?
I am getting errors when I try to install things to SD. Tells me there is not enough room.
Sorry if this doesn't make much sense still very new to this.
Thanks for the help.
First, go to Settings>CyanogenMod settings>Application> and make sure Use internal storage is unchecked.
Then go to Setting>Storage and let us know about SD card, Internal and Additional storage values.

Sounds like you installed CM7 to the internal memory, not to an external SD card. that's probably why you are seeing the space available on internal memory, but not the SD card. There is Verygreens's method to install CM7 and CM9 to the external card, leaving the stock Nook ROM in place, but it doesn't sound like you used it. To get answers to most of your questions, go to Leapinlar's great information page here:

Specifics relating to installing CyanogenMod on an SD card are in the second post.

Yes, I agree. It sounds like his friend set it up to install to SD by burning the image to the card, but somehow flashed the rom to internal memory instead. That would explain the 5GB internal space and 116Mb SD card space.
He needs to reformat the SD card to get the full size of the card available.

Well sounds like the stock nook interface is gone then. No big deal. Do I just reformat the SD card through the settings in android? The option states Erase SD Card. Would that be what I want to do?
Also not sure if this is related. But sometimes C7 wont boot when I have the SD card in. Take the SD card out and it boots just fine.
Well I grew a pair and did the Erase SD Card. Now it is showing 29.66GB.

LOL. Good job. Yes, stock Nook is gone. I can help you get it back if you want it, but most never miss it. The only reason people want it is for warranty or if they want to have kids books work.
Random side question but figured since I have ya here.
Any idea on a good note taking app for android? As in for school notes like during class?

I have a Team 32GB card with 27GB of music on it and it's formatted as FAT32 and have had zero problems. If you can, try that format and see if it helps.
Will try

Sorry it didn't work.
I have been using 32GB micro SD card in my galaxy S4 with 0 problem so far. Then I bought a Samsung 64 GB micro SD card and did format it to fat32. It stopped working after one day. I removed the old partition and format it again, only 15 out of 64 GM became available. I had a similar problem with another 64 GB micro SD card a month ago.
My personal feeling is that android 4.2.2 does not like 64 GB card regardless of the format type.......
I will continue to use my 32 GB card until getting a new phone with 32 GB internal storage.

Thank you for your answer. Did you try format your Samsung SD to EXFAT? I feel like my Micro SD is fried and is on its last run being write protected. I requested an RMA from Team Group.
