It was nice to wake up to my phone showing an update available... turns out it was the update from 2.2 to 2.3.3... I am pleased and have put ADW on hold for a bit while I try out the new features and looks... so far, not so bad.
What version of Sense is on this? I'm asking because my fiance is looking at this phone and I'm not familiar with the differences in Sense versions. I'm curious to know if it has the version that has the personalize shortcut instead of the add shortcut on the main dock. She's not really a power user by any means, but the customization like skinning would be a plus.. Just curious. This phone is free now anyway, so she's looking at it regardless, it would be nice to let her know though.
Thanks. :]
It has the newer sense with customization and the recent apps and quick settings in the notification bar. Btw its sense 2.1

Unfortunately the store was out of stock though, so we have to wait until Friday now when we go in to pick up my Evo 3D. :3

Hello everyone,
I have been using an HD2 for some time with android. The phone was working great but i wanted to buy an android phone as i was spending a lot of time on it downloading different builds. After looking around i decided to go for the Dell Streak. I loved the big screen and how different it is for all the other phones around.
I live in the UK so bought it from o2. The phone came with android 1.6 with an optional upgrade to 2.2. As soon as i started, i downloaded the update but with great sadness i realised that on the 2.2 the phone looses the task bar on the top with the standard android and also the biggest let one down is the big screen is not anything special now. I did not like that you could see the different screen on the sides of your home screen.
Having searched i have managed to downgrade to 2.1 and the phone looks the way i want it again. Unfortunately there seem to be lots of bugs with this version of the streak so i am wondering if there is a way i can have 2.2 running looking like the 2.1 version or a fix for the 2.1.
Thanks in advance for any advice
neither can be done, froyo changed the frameworks too much to make porting the (frankly crap) status bar over, im actually happy dell saw sense and removed it as i dispised the 1.6/2.1 status bar with a passion
Thanks!
Not the reply i was hoping for but at least i know that it cant be done.
If i upgrade to 2.2 is there a way of streaching the screen in order to avoid overlappping?

yes there is. You have to use a different home screen launcher. The two popular ones are adw.launcher and launcher pro. Both are highly customizable and will do what you want.
I currently use adw.launcher and love it.

Wicked i shall download it and have a play around with it.
Thanks for the tips guys!

I really miss the 1.6 task bar as well. Since getting froyo I have moved to launcher pro for my default launcher. Much better that stage.

Thanks to all the DEVS on here i appreciate your time and talent, and i would donate to every one of you guys but im not the richest person in the world. I do have a request if it's possible, here goes. I do have a brand new mt4g 3 days old now because of the screen and constant apps crash from my other. Since i downloaded a couple apps from the market and made it much more USER GUI custom rather than roms, because i have found to fail in this department with finding anything that i like (i'm picky, sorry devs, you do make great roms though ).
Attached is my home screen and i was wondering if anyone could make a simple mod (rom) to make the icon boxes transparent? Just show the icons? and remove the clock? I only ask this because I have the clock with beautiful widgets and did download another app for the power widgets. Or is there a simple setting i could mod in terminal? I appreciate it a bunch for anyone that could do this for me thanks a ton and....... (LONG LIVE XDA DEVS AND SUPPORTERS!!!)
I don't know about the clock, but ADW Ex will take care of the icon thing for you.
is that on market or can i get it here?
nvm i found it thanks again!
Launcher Pro as well...
I've been using it since I first got my nexus one and it's fantastic! The developer just added some nice new home screen transitions as well. Very customizable.

haha
U can also download a mt4g theme called androdian. It keeps the htc sense on, but does exactly wat u want, which is remove the boxes around the icons . I use it (even tho I have adw ex over it) and it looks niceee

So, I bought lol
It's AMAZING. Very smooth, great transitions, and 9 full homescreens! You can even put more than 9 on if you want to, lol
I'm on Warm 2.2 now, but this is so good that, as a Sense fan (Sense was the reason I bought this phone), this is seriously pushing me to a Gingerbread ROM like CM7. Give it a try!
PS- I am in no way connected to the developer(s) of this software. I just love it
i installed it on my OG droid but it is just a black screen....no luck
Ouch, 15 bones.....looks neat, but not for that much $$. Going to stick with LPro until this puppy comes down in price.

My thoughts exactly. I'd love to try this, but not for that much coin.

I did see in the comments on the link that someone posted a link to the apk... not gonna advertise for warez but if you want to try it out i you *could* try it from that and if you like it buy it... I bought right after I saw the video, so I can't even confirm that it works
Something that concerned me when watching the video is that this launcher looks like a lot of flash and bling, but maybe lacking on some other areas of basic functionality. From reading the comments (in the original link) of people who have used it, there seems to be confirmation of my fears.
People are complaining about lacking certain basic features like widget resizing... or this:
Not to mention the fact that you can't arrange icons and widgets the way you want to. If you want anything on the bottom row, the top 3 rows have to be full

I'm not sure I fully understand that statement, but in general it sounds like this launcher is optimized to show off its own animations/widgets.
I don't want to pay $15 for this, nor do I want to download warez. So for now, that means I can only judge based on videos and comments. From my impressions though, it looks like switching over would cripple a number of functions that I find very useful in other launchers. In return, I would get some admittedly cool animations, and some visually interesting UI changes, but I don't see any functional enhancements that really interest me.
At the end of the day, I'm very much a "form follows function" kind of guy, so I suspect this just isn't the launcher for me. I'm sure it will be great for many other people though.
I their version for winmo, it was nice, but not for me. Im like the last guy, i like fuction looks. The whole thing with different launchers is to configure what you like. Maybe im just s simple guy, but this launcher looks like something kids will enjoy, i prefer the smart, in smartphone.

Doesn't work on GingerBread?
played with that earlier mentioned version (cough *warez* touchy subject) a little bit (only lets you run it if you turn mobile data off so it is pointless) and it was cool.
a lot of 'wow' factors that look good but it isn't very functional. launcherpro+ blows it out of the water as far as quick and easy getting to apps & widgets.
I got the spb shell 3d today and omg i am amazed at how smooth it runs and how it barely waists battery. i hated that i couldn't put apps wherever i wanted but then i downloaded desktop visualizer and customized it however i wanted.
btw i have an evo 4g and i am running cm7 nightly #41 gingerbread with savaged-zen 1.0.1 bfs nosbc kernel. (AMAZING!!!!!) ^_^

Right now I'm on Regina because SPB doesn't work on cm7 for me. I prefer SPB though

Hello xda, I was wondering if anyone would like to see a rom/mod I made and have been playing around with. I was thinking about compiling a finshed project on this upcoming sunday after I make and add some cool things like a custom transparent notification bar, clear backgrounds behind the icons, transparent drawer, etc.
The only question is..anyone interested?
I'd be down to try it out. I change roms every other day for something new.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I'm also interested. I'll give it a try if you post it.
No one will condemn you for trying, and every effort is appreciated. Of course you can expect a flood of reports if it doesn't work or lacks functionality, but that's the point of posting ROMs here, to get feedback and make them better. Good luck, hope to see something soon.
I will definitely give it a shot.
Release it. I am sure many other MT4G users will appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.
re;
Thank for the replies, as of right now I am currently working on the icons and notification bar.
+1 im bookmarking this
i'd like to test it out as well.
update!
]Here's a shot of the notifactions its not done yet lol I think ill add some more spark to it an you can see my unfinished app drawer icon, that also still WIP. ( http://www.mediafire.com/i/?t1xsvqyu1b5slag ) this is a sub link if that attached pic doesn't appear.
I'd love to see something different. Pleasee!
looks good. cant wait till its done.
Was this ever completed? Anything like this out there?
I was gonna do this, but I already found out that there is a TouchWiz theme for the CM7 for the CM7 theme chooser, (as well as more selections, such as Sony's TimeScape, Vanilla Froyo, MotoBlur)... So I just left that and used the themes instead, they're pretty amazing.
Awesome, thanks for the feedback, and quick reply!
Sooooooo conference is over... I can just image what can be done through development on phones now. Now that the SDK is available, hopfully we will see some ICS this month? Im excited!
What are your favorite features? (If you watched the conference)
Without source code we're basically SOL for a daily driver, but SDK ROMs are cool to check out

The face unlock seems cool but what is your in a dark place like a bar. I hope they have an alternate way to unlocking it in that situation.
The new camera app looks sweet and I love how fast it can snap pictures on the Galaxy Nexus.
Taking out physical buttons was brilliant. Not only does it make the screen bigger but this way you can have what ever buttons you like (fully customizable). Unlike now as I never use the search button on my Dinc.
i Love the idea of the facial recognition, im sure rooted devices could eventually impliment thaf into unlocking apps too.
and when they had the mess up, it looked like it went to the pattern unlock, so i guess thats a back up.
the buttons was also great, much more room for larger screens, but the lack of physical buttons also worries me a bit.
hopefully some nice development will come out of this, so far i think this is the best android version with the most features and ui changes

Well, I think it's the ICS apps at least...
Can't wait to so CM8/9 to start showing up. Please make it work on the Incredible.(and the RZR too)
Yeah hope we get some ICS roms soon. Since I'm holding out on a Droid 4 or anything with a QWERTY keyboard, that's not that Samsung toy

If some roms get good enough, i might ditch miui and give it a try. its exciting to see what all has been put into it.
hats off for google!

Here's my question...
The ICS Google Music app was already leaked a couple weeks ago. Will the other updated apps (like Gmail, for example) be made available to Gingerbread users as well (either via apks or official market update)?
Phillip Fry said:

Without a front facing camera, facial unlocking doesn't seem practical on our device

I like the new font.
it may not seem practical with our phones, but you could always use the other camera, turn your phone facing you, and hope it recognized you.
the bricked layout is nice, its not as simple as windows phones, but its a great balance between simplicity and advanced customizability.
also i believe some apks in ics will be ported for other android versions too.

Yes, most likely through market updates. Although if your willing to try you could attempt to install the apk from the system dump. I might mess something else up though, and even if it didn't I don't think the gmail widget would work.

Edit: don't try, it won't work unless its Deodexed
I think there were a lot of decent updates but truthfully, my life is run by my calendar and I think that was a great update.. looking forward!
