[Q] Can a provider really block this device ? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

Hello,
I'm a potential new owner of the 10.1v.
A mobile Internet provider from my country is having a great offer for it : you can rent it for 24 months with a data plan access. I'm about to sign up but one aspect of the contract is not clear : are costumers allowed to definitly purchase the tablet at the end of the 24 months if they don't sign up for another 24 months ? Some sources say yes (for about 125 dollars) other say no; worse, I heard yes and no from two official sources !
If they eventually don't allow the purchase, the only way to really get it would be to declare it stolen or lost. But if I do so, they will block the tablet. But what does it mean ? Is it something that even xda can't fix ?
I would be embarassed to lie in order to purchase it for good, my Christian education is hitching, but at the same time I find it stupid from them to refuse to sell it to me if I really don't want to sign for 24 more months. After all, it would be refusing my money and what are they doing to do with a 2 years used device ?

It depends on your provider. However, all cellular radios have a unique identifier, for GSM, it is an IMEI number that registers on the network. If they were to block that identifier from registering on the network, then they have blocked your access. So yes, it can be done, whether or not they do it is another story.

O2 Shop / O2 Online

Hi All,
I currently have an O2 online contract which I have had for about 16months now. After seeing that the XDAIIs are £150 cheaper in O2 stores than online I decided to change my contract to an O2 store type and cancel the online contract and port my existing number accross from online to the new one.
After calling round lots of O2 stores to be told that they have none left in stock, I found a shop with 1 left so hurried along to buy. The girl in the shop though told me that they can port number across from other networks, but not between the online and shop flavours of O2 because they are the same company. Funny that when I go into a shop with a problem on my online contract they tell me that they are different companies and can't do anything !! grr. Needless to say, I didn't buy the XDAII.
Does anyone know if this is truely the case because I do need to keep my existing number and also don't really fancy paying £349 from the online store when they are selling £150 cheaper just down the road. !

That's absolutely pants that is. That is exactly what I did. I had an online contract and bought an XDA2 from the retail side & kept my online number! They can do it, you just need to push them. Once you do they are actually quite helpful.

I had a similar problem, they said that I couldn't port an O2 number to O2 (this is in effect an upgrade) only from other networks. I pushed them and they said it could be done - I signed a new contract, got a temporary number (which was no use to me as I didn't want to give my many contacts a temporary number) so I put my old SIM in the XDAII until they ported the number - it took them over a month to finally port the number, but they did give me 4 months free line rental as compensation.
Well done m8. Just show what can be done when you push! I also ended up with several months free line rental. They ended up moving the new contract to my old sim card. A 'Migration' they call it!

The XDA2 is going to be £299 in shops from the 1st of March

Can a new user, onto his second post, dare correct you all (but do so on the basis that he had exactly this, and it lead to a full investigation from the then OFTEL)?
Sorry to say it folks, but whilst SOME Service Providers, or even individual staff themselves, will let you 'port' from one Service Provider on the same network to another SP on the same network, there is ABSOLUTELY NO LEGAL OBLIGATION FOR THEM TO DO THIS.
I know this from huge problems I had with Singlepoint as SP for O2, Porting into them a number from O2 (then BT Mobile SP).
So I took my case to OFTEL.
And guess waht - the reason for this is clear.
Legislation provides for Porting numbers, and places a legal obligation on Networks and SP's to do exactly this.
BUT...
Going from one service provider to a different one, but within the same network, is not covered. Becuase it ISN'T a PORT - it is a MIGRATION.
Only if the networks are different, does a PORT ensue.
And ONLY a Port is bound by Oftel (at the time - now OFCOM) regulations.
So many of you MIGHT manage this (in the end Singlepoint did for me, after all the hoo-ha).
But there is absolutely no compulsion for them to do this, and nothing you can do in law to force them, if they refuse.
Please don't think I am making this up - a simple call to OFCOM will answer your query.
BUT, bear in mind this was a while back, and the case investigator from OFTEL told me at that time that plans were afoot to change this in future to cover migrations too. So it might be worth that call to OFCOM...

I'm gonna sound rude here, but no thats completely what i am not saying, as my post should indicate.
I was going FROM O2 (with O2/BT Cellnet/Mobile as the Service Provider) TO Singlepoint (O2).
And what Singlepoint would not do, is ACCEPT my PAC code.
Hence why I went to OFTEL.
Only to find that Singlepoint were well within their rights not to accept the PAC code, and transfer IN my number, as it wasn't a PORT at all (PAC = Port Authorisation Code - hint!)
Becuase only if there is a change of networks, does it amount to a PORT. If it is inter network, but different services providers, it is a MIGRATION, which has no legal obligation (or at least didn't at that time).
So what my post was clearly warning, is that UNLESS THERE IS A CHANGE OF NETWORK, it is not a PORT< but instead, a migration.
And for migrations, Service Providers have no compulsion or legal obligation to let you bring your number over - it is entirely at their own discretion.
Only a PORT (which as I said, needs a change of network), has legal obligation to it on the part of a Servie Provider.

As if he wanted to tell me something but couldn't. In the end he said that O2 are not obliged to migrate the number across because of the administration charge that they incur. As he was sounding strange, I said 'Are you trying to tell me that I should be able to get my number migrated across if I keep on at them, but you are not allowed to tell me that' To which he replied 'Yes'

In my experience (after the case I had with OFTEL), the ONLY people willing to allow a number transfer on a migration rather than a port, is O2 Online and O2 (O2 Proper, with themselves as the serive provider - not a third party like Singlepoint).
Which fits with what you have said. BUT like you mention - its at their discretion - so sound nce, and keep plugging if they first say no.
Singlepoint will NOT allow you to bring in your existing number, from another provider, if the network remains the same - i.e they will not allow number transfers with a migration - but instead ONLY with a PORT, which they are legally obliged to anyhow.
And maybe I should clarify the Network's logic for this...
If you go from one network, TO another, then the network you have left LOSES a customer/number/statistic/figure, when it comes to reporting year end customer numbers.
On the other hand, the network you are going to, gains a new customer/number/statistic, to include in their year end report of number base/connects.
Thus the new network is happy to do this, and subsidise handsets etc etc.
On the other hand, if all you are changing is Service Providers, then the NETWORK gains absolutely nothing - as they lose one customer to in effect gain another.
Thus absolutely no incentive or financial reason for them to promote this.
And I took the liberty to check, and alas, there has still been no change with OFCOM in terms of the law - ONLY a number PORT (which means a complete change of NETWORK), is legally enforceable in terms of them accepting a number port.
A MIGRATION (chenge of Service Provider, but remaining on the same Network), still has no legal obligation.

this is my first post, and i will admit straight away that i work for one of the big "independent retailers" so have no problem/loyalty with any network..........
i know from previous posts that i may be teaching some of you to suck eggs....that is not my intention!
in the 80's under the then uk government the first 2 networks where ordered to split there "networks" into service providers{billing companies)
that was O2 and VODA by the monopolies commision....several years later the next networks where allowed to sell there own airtime(orange and tmob) .....hence if you are with o2 or voda you could have a contract with up to anyone of 100+ service providers any of which will charge a different amount to upgrade to an xdaII..... you will always have the oppurtunity to upgrade(stay with your service provider,,,if you are a large monthly spend ....negotiate!) but you will also (and use this!) have the oppurtunity to switch within your network (MIGRATION- ie you stay with O2 but are billed by a new company..but are recognised as a new consumer....ie better deal) or switch to a new network....ie voda,orange ..(who are shortly to offer the xda........) who will bend over backwards to get you!!!!!!
either way your best tool is to ask for a PAC code (porting authorisation code) wether migrating or porting.......as this lets the network/service provider you are with know you are not only serious about leaving them....but serious about joining another network/service provider and they will negotaite...if not switch network!!!! normally same handset but better offer!

Haven't you read my posts at all? You CAN'T do a number port on a MIGRATION inter-network. You can only do a PORT if it is cross network.
(And by 'CAN'T' what I mean, as explained in my post, is compel, by law, a Service Provider, to accept your number - some DO so this by choice, but most do not. Those that do not CANNOT be compelled to accept a PAC code, for a MIGRATION, as this has no legal power behind it through OFCOM. Only a true PORT carries legal weight.).

I am currently with Orange and will be moving over to O2 when my contract expires and I get the new XDA II on a business contract.
Point I want to raise is that ORANGE told me that to get best deal and offer on an upgrade (take out the fact that I want the XDA II) is to MOVE TO ANOTHER OPERATOR - so the above is totally true that migration is at discretion of company, porting (i.e. leaving network) is legal right.

How can I chang my G1's IMEI

I only ask this because i have an iphone that I have changed the imei numbers to all 0's, and Tmobile can not determine what phone i am using. I hate the fact that companies try to insist that they need this information. It is true that it does help with the average consumer, i am not the average. I just bought the phone new with no contract and would like to keep Tmobile from knowing things they have no right to.
I also contacted Tmobile as well as other carriers and THERE IS NO LAW IN THE US that prevents anyone from changing their IMEI numbers, it is only used for insurance purposes or deactivate your service which i believe they actually do by the sim card numbers anyway.
I am not trying to recieve cheep data or anything else, i pay for the unlimited internet (19.99) and 400 text (4.99). I only want a way to protect my privacy.
Your not going to find any help here since its against the Law in most countries.

Has anyone used htccode.com to unlock a U.S. Tmobile HD2?

I logged on to their site and chatted with the live person and asked if the U.S. Tmo HD2 was SIM unlockable. They said yes.
I proceeded to go through the motions. Bought unlock on Paypal. Ran local client. Got rejected saying US/France/Canada can't do the auto method, had to email them for code. Emailed. Heard back in about 20 mins. They said computer was not kicking back a unlock code.
This was about 6 hours ago. Still waiting.
Anyone have any luck with the U.S. HD2 and htccode.com? I'm not criticizing them just stating my experience so far.
If I get a code by tomorrow I'll be happy. Otherwise I would like a refund as Tmobile service in my area is not nearly as good as ATT. So I currently have ATT and was just trying the HD2. So I figured I'd unlock it and pop in my ATT SIM to see if I get better luck on reception. Otherwise I'm gonna have to try the Telstra model. Bigger investment.
And yes I know I won't get 3G on ATT. But as it is I'm not getting any reception whatsoever on Tmo.
Not much help to you, but I went with unlock-now.com. Been about 1.5 days and not a peep from them. I am in the same boat, trying to use it with ATT.

If your carrier in India supports the same bands the T-Mobile HD2 does then yes. People like me that are on ATT will be stuck on the 2g/Edge data connections because ATT and T-Mobile don't share the same 3g bands.
All a sim lock does is make only the carriers sim card work on the device.
And for the record still nothing from unlock-now. I wish they would at least reply to my support ticket, I understand it's a new device, but communication is key to a good business.
Let's hope htccode.com can figure this out...
can't you just call Tmobile and ask them for the unlock code? I've read somewhere they will give u the code after 2 or 3 days

I was about to ask the same question. T-Mobile is usually pretty good about giving out the unlock code. Especially if you bought the device unsubsidized.

I tried first thing on the 24th after obtaining the TMOUS HD2 as well and as you; I have heard absolutely nothing, your right communication is the key.

I called them twice and was told they would give the code after a certain amount of time but only if you have had an active account as they need it to send you the code...I KNOW for a FACT that is not true but its what they told me both times. More likely they have the code right in front of them if not on the next screen, but its not the reps fault they just following orders.
So far:
freeyourhtc.com = Could not return a code...Refunded my money within 2 hours from purchase. $18.99
htc-unlocker.org = Emailed me code after 2 hours; it didn't work. BUT!!! They emailed me twice since saying they are working on it. After 24 hours they emailed me saying the code is not in any of the databases but they can request it from TMO but they want an additional $10.00 and it could take 3 days. $19.99
leo.unlock-now.com (unlock-now.com) = Not so much even as an email to say thank you for the payment. Still waiting, site says it could take up to 2 days...it has been almost a day and a half so far. They sent me a refund (Not quite 2 days yet) saying my code could not be found without me ever emailing them so I guess not so bad after all, also said try back in 15 days.$23.95
I also emailed 2 ebay unlock sellers they have not wrote back yet.
Man I miss Olipro and Cmonex ---They dont have an unlocker on their site yet!!!

I used HTCCode.com and after I paid and d/l the client they say it wouldn't because my PayPal is from the U.S.
Sim-unlocker.com- is garbage. They haven't gotten back to me at all. They did how -ever happily take my money with out any issues
T-Mobile-They have been the most helpful, they said since I purchased my phone at a major retailer they would do it but I had to fax some info. I than said that was unacceptable and the kind lady asked if i had any friends on T-mobile. luckily I did and they said it would at max take 48hrs. I have been waiting since last night..

i have four hd2 t-mobile upgrade which i can`t unlock, had no issues before
maybe there is some software to unlock hd2?
If I remember right there was a legal deal regarding the unlock code situation. You are the owner of the phone and have the right to the code. The carrier is required to give you the code. I have had good luck getting tmo USA to give me my codes on past phones. It sometimes takes a day or two because they had to get it from htc.

When I bought the phone and I made sure to request my phone would would be unlocked so I can compare with my AT&T service. I did not transfer my number and kept my AT&T account open.
When I called in to have it unlocked, one guy said they can't unlock it until after 14 days, which is the last day to return the phone in many states. I called again and a lady said I have to be through 2 billing periods or 40 days to get it unlocked. This is not written in my contract. I demanded something in writing and there is not a written policy or specific terms on this. But yet, I'm "contractually" binded to this "policy" even though it was never discussed to me nor was it in my contract. I didn't leave the store until I got a written documentation of the conversation around the 40 days.
Then I look at the Terms and Conditions online and line item #6 states customers have the right to have it unlocked.

It's all in how you interpret "you may be eligible"...
WTF does that mean? Do they have the right to place eligibility requirements on it even? What are the U.S. laws regarding this?
How do you think the ones that popped up on ebay right away after release got their codes so fast?
I have tried 3 unlocking sites and they all said code cannot be found at this time.

Tried this, was told the account had to be active for 40 days which is bull because when I called before getting the phone they said you just had to have an account active.

They were unable to unlock my T-Mobile US HD2. Also looking for someone to unlock my new phone.
I've been "pressuring" htccode.com to come up with a unlock. If they can do it I told them I'd put a post on my site (HTCHD2.NET) which might drum up some sales. It's gets a decent amount of hits so hopefully this will motivate them.

[Q] Advice needed: About to buy a NEW S4A on CL

I'm about to buy a NEW Galaxy S4 Active from a guy on Craigslist that's going to get one new from the ATT store today. The selling price to me? $400.
That's a great price, so I'm wondering...
Is there anything that I need to be aware of? Can I lose out on this deal? I'm assuming that he's going to get an upgrade and extend his contract, because that's the only way he can make money on this deal. But what if he cancels his contract or doesn't pay his bill, won't the phone get blacklisted and I'll end up with a brick in a few months?
No blacklisting on att phones. The only way you can lose out is if the guy has insurance on his phone, sell it to you, then calls att reports it stolen. Then the phone becomes a glorified paperweight.
Alot of people run this Craigslist scam, because the insurance deductible is cheap, and they make a large profit selling it, then reporting stolen and get a brand new device, meanwhile you get scammed.
To prevent that from happening you can meet the guy at an att store and let them know you are purchasing the phone from him, and they will transfer ownership to you and he can't file a stolen device.

I would be very careful when buying an expensive phone from Craigslist. Tell him you only want to meet at an at&t store so they can make a note on his account that he sold you the phone. Then I would have them activate the phone there and then for you. If it's legit then he'll have no issue doing what you suggest. $400 is a good price for an active. But sometimes if it seems too good to be true, well you get the point.
Great advice you guys! That's what I'll do is meet him at the store and make sure I'm notated and the ownership is transferred to me. I didn't realize ATT would do that for me!
That is two good pieces of advice. Benefit of Craigslist over EBay is one-on-one contact. I would add, and you probably already decided, is if he doesn't want to meet with some excuse--don't buy it--

According to the sales person there is no way to transfer an IMEI and that an original purchaser could theoretically still report the phone stolen.
I am not sure if I believe the second part but it could be. I can't see att trying to track every IMEI as phones change hands.

Yeah that's wrong. Basically an imei cannot be on two accounts at the same time. So going in to a store with the seller they could remove it from their account and it would be put on yours. With ATT however, there is very little ways for them to "blacklist" a phone. Sure it may not be able to be placed on your account but a sim will still work just fine in it. Verizon is different due to the way their activations work.

I am not sure why you say they can't blacklist. They can and are now doing so. EU has done it for years. No one in the USA did it in the past but the carriers are doing it now, and they are working on a shared database. So once a phone is blacklisted it will be unusable on any carrier.
Today a blocked AT&T phone could still be used on t-mobile.
The phone sends its IMEI when it connects to the network and AT&T can easily block it if it is reported stolen. There are other threads about people buying notes and s4 that are blocked.

Today a blocked AT&T phone could still be used on t-mobile.
The phone sends its IMEI when it connects to the network and AT&T can easily block it if it is reported stolen. There are other threads about people buying notes and s4 that are blocked.

Weird. I've never seen a phone not connect to the network like that. I haven't told ATT I've switched phones since my OG Note a year and a half ago. That phone has long since been gone. The only thing that seems to be reporting to ATT is the sim. What happens when you use an imei from outside their database? How does it access their network then?

I switch phones all the time and I don't "tell" AT&T - this works fine without issue, but they do see the IMEI - this is easy to verify. Log into your AT&T account and look at your devices - it shows the actual phone that is being used on that number. I am not sure how often they update this, but it shows the system automatically sees the IMEI.
They only keep a database of Blocked or blacklisted IMEI. It is impossible for them to keep a database of approved phones, it just wouldn't work and it would piss people off. It is easier to keep a short block list.
On my account, I have 2 other family lines for dumb phones and they have data blocks. But these lines are using other smart phones, and they listed by brand and model when i log into my account. The IMEI can be used to detect brand and model. I still don't know why the CSRs ask for IMEI when this info shows up automatically, but i never give it to them.
And like I said, when i bought the last phone, I walked in the store and the guy knew what i wanted and looked it up to see if it was reported stolen. When it was not, he said everything was good. A few years ago, they would not have cared either way.

According to AT&T only the original owner can report a phone stolen - so maybe only new activations get treated this way. The AT&T rep said i could not add the IMEI of the used phone to my account to prevent someone from reporting it stolen, so their system has lots of limits.
I wish I knew more, but AT&T is not the most forthcoming with how things work.

I read just the other day that Tmo and ATT are sharing their blacklists. And once a phone has been blacklisted on one carrier, the other will follow suit.

Just when I finally decide to buy the developer edition it disappears from their site. It's getting harder and harder to find newer devices on Verizon that can be rooted and has external storage/removable battery.
Are they going to offer a Note 5 DE?
Get a unlocked phone off of tmobile and you can have removable back battery and sd card and you can put a verizon chip and root.

good news though. there will be Galaxy S6 Developer Editions, this year, and there will be a Note 5 developer edition (next year)

I was thinking the same thing. Especially if they go with an even smaller battery then what the N4 has, like rumors state.
I haven't been using the spare battery for mine. Just to see if it would be a total inconvenience or not. Hasn't really been at all. Though they never decide to die until it is a major inconvenience haha.
Well, I have to get my Note 4 reflashed back to developer. It's being sent to texas on tuesday. I wasn't thinking, and duked my device with the latest update from Samsung / Verizon. not a good idea, stuck in retail land. I am also planning to get a new screen put in as the one I have has some severe burn-in.
btw - if you are near contract's end, consider this (I am). Don't opt to renew your plan for a new two year agreement just to get a new phone. Verizon, if your plan is expired, will drop your rate 24.99 to keep you. either keep your existing phone, or, pay full retail for your next one.
I know, if you buy a Note 5 (or S6) and want gob loads of memory you pay big bucks. You could also purchase a S5 Developer off of Samsung's site for 599.00 and get the luxury of a new phone plus developer, plus removable battery, plus additional storage.

And, the retail note 4, discontinued...
Sadly the development has never been great for the DE. Lack of root for the retail version has killed an otherwise amazing phone for tinkerers and Nandroiders.
If I am wrong let me know and I'll try to get one used... but until then I stick with my extremely versatile note 2!
Note 5 is a no go for 2 simple reasons: SD and fixed battery.

Yup, Note 5 looks great, but from a distance...
And that's why I picked up a 2nd Note 4, found one, at a Best Buy, who states their inventories are depleting and they are discontinued in their systems. So, as soon as they are all sold out, no more. I had to run to a store far away from my home to get a new one. Yup, it's retail, but of course has the two main features people want. And I'm holding on to it for right now, not sure what I'll do with it.
Samsung most definitely does not have em, and whatever Verizon has they REFUSE to sell one at full price walking out of the store with them - poop-heads

On a final note, and what might be regarded by most of you as a "Good luck with that.." attempt - this, is the reason I am named "Anti-Cloud"
I would like to start a petition, in which we, the users of phones, regain 100% control if it's use, who has access to it, what's on it, and with full administrative access rights. I would like that to see the petition be forged into a bill and work it's way up to Washington and become law: it basically puts the business of communication devices on a simple one-to-one basis, a simple business model - which in the end, if a person pays for phone service to make calls, send texts, run apps, browse web etc, that the business relationship is solely between "you" and the carrier - meaning you pay for the service and the carrier can only conduct business scoped to making phone calls sending receiving data / text - no collection of whereabouts, providing location services (which is BS anyway), nor using the phone by any means to sell more services - a simple contract more or less, that all other business conducted, whether the user knows about it or not, is prohibited by law - the phone is a phone, it is not a platform for a carrier / 3rd parties to conduct further business (or the government for that matter).
History / Background - A purchased computer, by any of us, is for the most part, an honest transaction - meaning once we purchase that computer, which may have an operating system / software on it, it is free to do with what we want. We, the user, can decide to employ administrative access to that PC, even go as far as completely remove an operating system. Note, not sure about apple, but with Microsoft, although a bit harder to do with Windows 8/10 etc, the user can still remove virtually anything they don't want in that operating system let alone they can fully preserve administrative access even in the midst of an update of operating system / software...
Phones, are not that way today. The phone's calling / data / text service is a basic service, yet there are many hands / fingers / services nested with a phone as it leaves the confines of the carrier, with the intent to solicit, collect, and control the business conducted of (on) that device - I want an end to it.
You realize that when you walk out of a carrier with your new phone it is not just a phone you can make calls with, send texts, browse the web - using Samsung / Verizon as a base example: It has Verizon, Samsung, Google, and the Government's fingers into it. The device is a platform to do "further" business with, on top of which we, the user, do not have full administrative rights to.
1. I seek to defund the business models (fingers), i.e. amputate - 3rd parties abilities to do ANY business (collect data, or sell) on devices that does not have to do with making phone calls, sending texts, using data (sending / receiving data between the carrier's towers and the device - the raw service, what you pay for)
2. Give the user FULL unadulterated administrative rights to the device with ability to remove ANY / ALL components / software / drivers - and that no non-essential-software shall be "baked-in" to the point that if removed the device becomes in-operable - i.e. NFL football, google maps. The device's ability to make calls, send texts, consume data must be independent of ALL other applications. Essentially, there would be no need for rooting / jail breaking as the phone's will come that way.
3. Location services can be disabled / removed and are completely free / untethered from the hardware GPS and or the phone's ability to operate - a consumer can, at will, have the ability to remove ALL location features even up to the point of removing drivers which employ the hardware GPS - if they so choose. And, a carrier / 3rd party cannot make the claim of greater accuracy (as that is a lie, complete lie) - using the hardware GPS is by far the most accurate and ALL software models at a minimum should be required to have the ability employ the hardware GPS only with no transmission of location datum to a 3rd party / carrier without the expressed consent of the user / knowledge there of.
4. Device manufactures and carriers MUST give the user a complete freedom from cloud service and or provide an equal means of storing / transmitting user's private data without the intervention / knowledge of a 3rd party provider / carrier - the user must have the choice as to whether to use the cloud or not. No carrier / manufacturer can put a device in service which forces the consumer to use cloud services. and the carrier / 3rd party provider MUST allow the user to move data off / on to the device in a sealed vacuum of privacy.
5. Operating System Providers MUST provide an operating system in which the user can have FULL administrative access to do all the above while maintaining a secure model - meaning carriers / manufactures cannot debilitate a secure service or claim the device is insecure if administrative access is gained by the local user. Secure models must be independent of administrative access - just like a PC!! It is an excuse, 100%, if a provider / carrier insists that security has been compromised if administrative access is gained.
This is a start -
Now, having said that. in a reasonable fashion, a carrier / 3rd party should have the ability to deem a device secure (or not) by virtue of a minimum set of requirements that deem the device safe to transact financial / secure private business - i.e. the user could remove components that defund a device's security model making it vulnerable for attack etc. carriers and 3rd party providers in order to maintain a secure model should be allowed to prevent an application / certain services from transacting if the device is not compliant. We see this in an application like Soft-Card etc. although I contend that a user gaining root access does not constitute a breach in security - if it does, it is because the operating system (or software) is weak - see #5, and providers must ensure that they can achieve a secure platform with administrative access.

Just to clarify, from what I've been reading if you are on a VZW legacy plan with a 2 year contract you can stick with it and get contract upgrades like normal going forward. I have not seen anything official from VZW on this, but that's the word on the street and I really hope it proves to be true. I still have unlimited data on 4 of my 5 family plan lines and if they steal the contract upgrade subsidies from me I'll be f*#king pissed since it's a value of around $20/month per line.
On a side note I'm looking for a DE Note 4. If anyone has any leads let me know. Those things are like leprechauns these days.
If someone here with a DE wants to move to a different phone I have a contract upgrade available with Verizon so I can trade you any new phone for a DE Note 4.

Not to repeat what you just said but are you saying that if I get an unlocked phone designed for T-Mobile that I can run it on the Verizon network as long as I put the Verizon sim card in? That would be awesome as I want to buy a note 4 developer edition but can't find one.

No - this doesn't work as Verizon has to white list the device for it to work on their network.
