Really? So netflix has been compatible with sense roms for 2 weeks? Interesting cuz theres a few thousand people who'd have liked to have known that.
So I'm thinking there is no way that this will unlock the bootloader. Am I right?

Probably not. But its coming.
EDIT: But im not 100% positive but I believe the Incredible S had the same type of bootloader protection that is on the 3D, and it was rooted with S off 2 days ago along with some other HTC phones, so hopefully toast is on the prowl and will have an in once he gets his hands on a phone. *Disclaimer* providing that its not encrypted signatures on it. We'd have to wait for the patch for that, but atleast root is possible.

Wal-mart can't even get gingerbread running on the Evo either.
Manufacturer does the updates.
HTC EVO will be one of the first, if not THE FIRST, phone to get an update to Gingerbread.

What a troll. The iPhone blows...
This is an email that I recieved from HTC after emailing them asking about the sense 2.0 update (some things removed from it for my privacy):
Dear ,
Good question! We understand how important it is to have the latest updates for your device.
I'm happy to inform you that your phone, the HTC Evo is definately on our list to recieve the 2.3 Android OS update. This update is expected to include an update to the Sense UI.
At this time, we don't have an exact launch date. However, we estimate that it will be available in the second quarter of 2011 (anywhere from the beginning of April, to the end of June), assuming that there are no major setbacks. Once we have a better idea of when this update will be availble for your phone, we'll be sure to announce it through Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/htc) and Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/htc), and of course, HTC.com.
Thank you for taking the time to contact us.
To send a reply to this message or let me know I have successfully answered your question log in to our ContactUs site using your email address and your ticket number.
Sincerely,
Megon

Uhmmm what? If i wanted the iphone i would have gotten it already. Screens to small. Os is eh.. i have an itouch for apps and music so there is no plus there. The evo is getting gingerbread...
So what about the iphone 3g? Apple is no longer supporting that phone either. hmm...
The fact that you're posting in forums designed specifically to incite interest in rooting phones and installing the latest firmware tells me you are either an idiot or troll, op.
Likely both.
I don't have an iPhone so, well, I'm not sure I'll ever have an iPhone.

Have fun with your iPhone. One less troll on xda.
Whaaaa? I thought April Fool's Day was on the first. In so far as I can tell, the only thing Apple has to offer that Android doesn't is the number of higher quality games, and that gap is shrinking in a big hurry. Beyond that, my Evo does everything an iPhone does, and I don't have to put up with AT&T or Verizon. Bonus!
And at any rate, didn't Apple and AT&T brick a bunch of iPhones last year with OTAs?
Yea, and they will brick it remotely if its jailbroken now too, bunch of phone-nazis!
We're comin from a pure power source.
The evo will not be the first to get the GB update, but we should get it eventually

Once someone gets the OTA and pulls the link from a logcat you can freely download it. It will not be posted publicly by Google.
To someone higher in the thread - fixes: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=3812c1acf93b482f&hl=en

You downloaded it from Google's servers - they do not publicly post the links though, as in GO HERE TO GET THE OTA! We'll have to wait for it to be received by someone who then will pull it from the logcat (or wait for your IMEI to get flagged and then the subsequent checkin).

I'm hoping the source drops quickly so we can get some fixes in place for the brightness bug on the other ports.
Filet hope it does come out tomorrow, the deb's have been waiting for this and hopefully they will give us a fixed port in gingerbread-->Sense 3.0
This is great news. We might start seeing Warm Gingerbread soon

xHausx, I have 2 EVOs, 1 rooted and other stock. Since I read this thread I have tried to manually update a couple of times and it indicates no update available yet. Will keep trying over the next several days and post back when successful.
Definitely not going to manually or automatically OTA update my rooted EVO.

I think so. I signed up that night of the day all the sites first reported about this uber secret "project" and never received any message or contact of any kind about it. Kudos to Motorola for having this coincide with them moving their feedback/support forums to a new site, further confusing users. SMH...
Anyone else think Motorola only decided to release this update today because they were feeling some pressure after ASUS not only announced today as the day thy were updating their Transformer Prime but made good on their word? In other words, I think they Motorola would have kept us on ice (no pun intended) if it weren't for ASUS' updates today.

The test is private, it won't roll out to everyone. We had to give our serial numbers and such I'm guessing so we could be put in a pool of Xooms to get the test update.
I know that, I just meant that when the ota does roll out to the masses if that app does anything?

Nothing, just minor bug fix, Androidpolice have posted changelog

I completely agree with the principle although in this particular case Android Police mentioned
The APK, uploaded by XDA member ecs1984, is signed by Google and upgrades your existing Play Store. The cryptographic signature guarantees that the apk was not tampered with in any way and is therefore safe to install. Use this download if you'd rather have the latest version rather than having to wait for Google to randomly push it to your device. Download and install it just like any other APK.

I assume it's safe to get it from the links in Android Police's article at least.
Its all about risk assessment, without any obvious advantage why consider it.
How many times on this forum do I read problems people are having from "latest versions" Official or unofficial ......when actually the previous one worked just fine.
Always let the over eager people do the testing.

Exactly... i fully agreed on what had been said. I have problems after installing an unofficial google play app last month and i need to reflash the whole rom....
If it were ready for release, Google would push it out to us. As they aren't, I doubt it's ready.
I got it 2-3 days back.
I think phoenix rom might have embedded it.

I'm one of the people who do not really like Google updates, as I had some issues before with Youtube and GMail updates, so i decided as long as there is no error i'm facing with the version that i have, i would not consider new Google updates until i see a major change that i like.
Regarding the issues that I had with GMail and Youtube, they just did not work properly after an update that Google released many weeks ago, and nothing really worked even after restarting the phone and all the basic troubleshooting steps, no emails were coming or going and the youtube videos kept on loading till I uninstalled the updates, afterwards everything went back on track.
Working absolutely fine here!
