Ok, I still do not get it? This is obviously the right way to do it, but how? What do I do with that APK?
Sorry I am new to ROM cooking, my ROM works awesome but I want to add some custom wallpapers to my ROM and change the default. This seems to be a common question with no easy answers.

you can easily unzip the apk file in Linux and do what you want to it and then rezip it in store mode and sign it. ( tadaaaaaa, it is it)
or in windows, change the apk to ZIP and Unzip it and then do what you want and then zip it in store mode change to apk and sign it in linux (or with cigwin in windows), again ( TADAAAAA, it is it)...

Could you explain a bit more?
The file htc-resource.apk contains the default background. But when I open it as a zip, I dont see any file which could be the default background. On decompiling with apkmanager, it tells me it has dependencies.
I know this thread is old, but I have the same question
If you are using the latest rom FroYo I suggest you look in the folder:
\SYSTEM\customize\resource

Modifying them there just shows them in Gallery. It doesnt make the background the default loaded when the rom is first installed
In framework-res.apk is what you need

Thank you! But when I changed the default wallpaper.jpg there, it showed that wallpaper for a second while booting up, and following the language and country setup, immediately reverted to the other one..I'm guessing there's one other location where this setting is present
HtcAddProgramWidget.apk - framework-res.apk - \SYSTEM\customize\resource
They are the only places where you can find wallpapers HTC (ammen you're not working on a custom ROM)

Yes, all folders. I just noticed that I need to remove the update from the app and the custom icon appears. How it's possible to fix that with the current update?

Probably you have changed only system/app apk.
Simply use latest version as base and use normal install.
Okay, problem fixed. Now, how can I edit default Android system apps? Like the Clock, Settings, etc.? I just noticed that the format is .pkm and I can't change icon. Can you help? Thanks.

No pkm in the file name, if the file is 'ic_launcher.pkm' then take the image you want to use and delete the pkm file and name the image 'ic_launcher.png'

No, this still does not work... The APK is no longer valid and prompted to put the ic_launcher.pkm. It does not recognize the ic_launcher.png.
How can I do please?

Mate 9 "The Sea" theme

This is "The Sea" Mate 9 theme on my P9. The icons are awesome. Would be excellent to have this icon pack. There is a similar pack on the Play Store called "Pebbles" here:

Found them in Mate 8 4.0/4.1 themes on Huawei site.
Copy whatever theme you are using on your phone to your PC, open theme with WinRAR and replace "icons" with the one attached.
Copy back over to phone and set as theme.

I've not tried them myself but I can't see that they would have changed the name of the icons when they made emui 5. If they don't work give me a wee while and I'll fix them to work with 5.

It's really just the icons myself and others have commented on wanting. Is it possible to extract just the icons from a theme?

The download I supplied is just the icons from that "The Sea" theme and nothing else. Inside the rar file is a file called simply "icons"
All I do when I want to use icons from a different theme is I just make a copy of the theme I'm using then copy the theme to my PC open the theme (hwt) file with WinRAR and copy the "icons" file into the hwt file. Save it and move it back to the phone.
I've tried all combinations of just adding the file "icons" to various locations on the phone so that they essentially act as just an icon pack but I can't figure it out and am a bit busy at the minute.

@Goose247 I managed to get the icons into another theme ok while using the stock Huawei launcher but when I changed back to Nova they aren't there. Is that to be expected?

Hmm! Shouldn't. What stock theme is it and I'll test and if I have to mess around with it to get it working I'll upload the whole stock theme with icons added.

It wasn't a stock theme, it was this theme.....

I managed to apply that theme with "The Sea" icons active but it was when I reverted back to Nova that only the system icons were visible

I've not tested it for long and I don't use Nova so no idea what options there are to change individual icons and you need a dark background.
Let me know how you get on.

I didn't upload the wrong one originally. The site is renaming it Sea_Icons.apk
Rename it "Sea Icons.apk" (without quotes). I've just downloaded it from here and renamed it and it works. Still in the process of adding extra icons but at least you can test it and tell me if it's ok.

Change App Icon Systemwide

Hi Peeps,
I want to change a specific icon of an app, and I want the changes to take effect on homescreen and app drawer. Ive searched for solution but what I found is just to use an app (which just create a shortcut on homescreen) and/or a launcher.
I want it to have on default TW.
Btw, I am rooted on Nougat.
Cheers!
as far as I know you can use themes / icons or you would have to decompile the apk and change the icons in the mipmap folders
