Hi guys...
I am trying to cook roms, and I cooked about 4 roms before but just for fun..
Now I am trying to cook a new rom and not for fun but for my legend and yours...
I faced with a problem...
DO anyone know how can I change the Default wallpaper of ROSIE..???
I tried these steps but with no result:
- system\customize\resource ---->>> but I can not find wallpaper, and I just can change LOCKSCREEN wallpaper from there.
- Lancher.apk---> I changed apk to zip, so I can open it, and then try to find the wallpapaers there, but I just can find wallpapare gallery photoes in there and not the default wallpaper.
- I tried every folder you think, but I can not find that wallpaper.
PLEASE HELP ME.....
how can I change the default wallpapaer..????

Ok, I still do not get it? This is obviously the right way to do it, but how? What do I do with that APK?
Sorry I am new to ROM cooking, my ROM works awesome but I want to add some custom wallpapers to my ROM and change the default. This seems to be a common question with no easy answers.

you can easily unzip the apk file in Linux and do what you want to it and then rezip it in store mode and sign it. ( tadaaaaaa, it is it)
or in windows, change the apk to ZIP and Unzip it and then do what you want and then zip it in store mode change to apk and sign it in linux (or with cigwin in windows), again ( TADAAAAA, it is it)...

Could you explain a bit more?
The file htc-resource.apk contains the default background. But when I open it as a zip, I dont see any file which could be the default background. On decompiling with apkmanager, it tells me it has dependencies.
I know this thread is old, but I have the same question
If you are using the latest rom FroYo I suggest you look in the folder:
\SYSTEM\customize\resource

Modifying them there just shows them in Gallery. It doesnt make the background the default loaded when the rom is first installed
In framework-res.apk is what you need

Thank you! But when I changed the default wallpaper.jpg there, it showed that wallpaper for a second while booting up, and following the language and country setup, immediately reverted to the other one..I'm guessing there's one other location where this setting is present
HtcAddProgramWidget.apk - framework-res.apk - \SYSTEM\customize\resource
They are the only places where you can find wallpapers HTC (ammen you're not working on a custom ROM)

i found these high res icons on deviantart. they look freaking awesum but i have no idea how to place them on my hero to replace the default icons. anybody have a clue how to do it or maybe you can use them.

heres the zip of them too. i dunno if someone can make these so we can flash them or maybe make an apk file?
they are the 2.1 icons. if you go into the market and search android 2.1 you will find the icon pack. only hitch is you have to have bettercut to use them
I would like to see a rom cooked with these icons though as I like them better than the stock 1.5

gbhil's 1.6 AOSP ROM has them cooked in BTW... couldn't you just open the PSD files in Photoshop, save them as .png (or w/e they have to be), then add them in following the tutorial for skinning Fresh 1.1?

yeah you probably could im just really tired right now and being lazy but I will more than likely do it.
and I have tried that 1.6 build but im not a big ran of the vanilla roms
Same here, but they are actually nice once you install the HTC IME and push the Googlebits to it. I just wish I could get SMS working haha.

well according to this thread: http://forum.androidcentral.com/wallpapers-ringtones-themes/5231-icon-packs.html you can use that zip file and flash it like any other add on. i tried and got an error about google signing missing or something? i just wondered if anybody could look into it and maybe make something we can flash or even an apk we can install on our hero's? i really don't want a homescreen replacement as ive tried panda and didn't like it. i just want to change the icons up.
sorry guys im not trying to be a pain but like others i have my hero set up like i want but the only missing thing is changing the icons up. id try to make an apk or zip i can flash but i have no clue where to start and probably don't have time tonight to do it. the funny thing is in that link i posted "where i got the zip from" he says you can flash this but when i tried i got an error half way through.
plus the fact im new to the hero and im still learning this stuff.

just download bettercut and the android 2.0 icon pack if you want the easiest way to do it
If it needs to be signed, I'm pretty sure you can do that in Flipz's pre-kitchen. Once I finish my homework (high school ) I'll see if I can sign the .zip and then I'll upload it.

jus signing the zip isnt going to do anything as it is just an image file. for it to actually change the icons you would have to go into framwork-res on the rom you are useing change the icon pngs inside the correct apk. then add an update script and zip and sign it.

i don't know much, but in that zip contains all the png's already. i assume we would just have to make a script to execute the install? i dunno just a thought as im clueless about it.

yeah i installed open home full and the icon pack. WOW it looks like crap. icons are all distorted. i hope we can get this working , if not maybe ill go in and try to modify fresh 1.1 rom's icons myself tomorrow and reflash it.
well looks like im going to be up for awhile so maybe ill start work on the files.
After hearing that the desire doesn't support metamorph I want to know, how would you apply a theme to the desire without metamorph? AFAIK metamorph only replaces updated files, like the png's that we change in a theme. So can a similar thing be achieved in recovery? Or is the only solution to get a rom, copy the theme over, and then flash? I only ask because I want to test nexus themes on desire (vanilla).
Thanks you for any answers.
P.S. This forum rocks socks!
I was just going to post the same question
What a coincidence
You will have to manually edit framework-res.apk and sign it...

push it to device using adb
Oh, so if I released a theme, which modifies every apk known to google, I would manually have to push every apk to the phone? could I do something like cp /system/* /system/
would that work?
If you want to publish it, update.zip is the way to go. You need to create file structure indentical to one you want to flash into a rom, write a script and sign it.
You can find more about it in the general android section...
Cool, thanks.
HOW TO CHANGE SYSTEM ICONS ON FROYO
Hi @all! Just want to change system icons, just like in the CM7. So,i noticed that in /system/app Apks there are some *.pro files, but the CM7 ROM has *.png files. So today i'm gonna teach how to do this on Froyo.
First of all, pick an Apk from CM7 ROM and extract it. Navigate to /res/drawable-mdpi/ and you will find some *.png files. Search the one with "ic_launcher" prefix and rename his extension from .png to .pro. Then open with 7-zip an LG stock Apk and navigate to /res/drawable-mdpi. Replace ic_launcher original file file with the renamed one and voila, icon is changed!
You can also change other icons with this method.
Tested on openOptimus.
thanks - was going to do this now I know!

I don't know but you want to use a framework-res.apk from a Samsung Note? You do understand not only that framework-res.apk is for another device, its for a modded framework of a rom for another device. Unless you want to crack open the apk and look at the code/images but even the images wouldn't work I think. Update.zip won't help you, needs to be properly ported.
Cheers

I am no themer or dev. So I don't know. I've never really looked much in to the xml files in the apk either so I wouldn't know. Everything can be ported with enough knowledge, patience and time

Anyone know of a working smaller navbar mod (not using xposed) that works on MHC19I ? or able to point me in the direction of guide that allows me to attempt to make one myself ?
Looking to stay stock+rooted, rather than a custom rom.
TIA
EDIT - I've modified framework-res.apk for MHC19I - Grab it here. Mod changes navbar to 24 instead of 48 height.
* Backup your original /system/framework-res.apk and replace it with the download.
I'd recommend to flash resurrection remix rom where you can set the navbar to 24dp.

So I've decompiled and made the edit, recompiled and signed the apk, pushed it to my device and replaced the original.. but now it just sits on the bootup logo animination and I cant get past that stage.
Hopefully you have a backup that you can restore. If not, push the stock framework via adb
