Hi all,
Just got a Note 3 from swappable to finally retire my Galaxy Nexus and I have a few questions.
I'm actually okay with the stock "ROM" if you will as I've substituted the Google Now launcher for Samsung launcher.
I just want to root the device in order to enable tethering and for the ability to remove the bloat ware Verizon applications. Is this something that's possible or would I have to get a completely new ROM? For the record also I'm on 4.4.2 so I'm not even sure it's rootable.
Any ROM recommendations or anything else would also be appreciated.
Thanks!
Edit: it looks like eclipse may be the ROM I'm looking for. Any reviews would be appreciated
Eclipse ROM would be the way to go if you like the stock android look. Check out JasmineROM, I'm running it as my daily driver, it is a compete S5 port. Amazing battery and buttery smooth. Its in the development section.

If all you want to do is just get rid of bloat you can just root and use Titanium backup to get rid of it. If you wish to start using roms here's a quicklist I made to help someone which kinda gives you everything in one post....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55003142&postcount=3
Hey everybody!
This is my first post and I'm new to the "rooting" scene but I've been spending extensive amounts of time researching and studying the fine art of rooting recently. Everytime I meet someone with an Android phone, I immediately ask if I can root it for them! Unfortunately, MY phone is a Verizon Note 3 running OTA Lollipop 5.0... Needless to say, at this point, no one's had any success rooting this elaborate puzzle that Verizon has so kindly constructed...
Now forgive me if this is just a crackhead fantasy, but I had an idea that's crazy enough that it just might work (but I doubt it)... I have a rooted Galaxy Gear smartwatch and since I've been overindulged in the rooting culture (and occasionally high enough to think outside the box while munching on some Taco Bell), I started wondering if there would be any way that you could use a rooted smartwatch that connects to the "unrootable" device to somehow bypass the security measures that Verizon has in place to prevent doing so...
Am I delusional? Or is there a remote glimmer of hope exposed by this idea? I'm sure someone out there who knows a helluva lot more about this **** than I do can enlighten me as to why this is (likely) a nonsensical idea... right?
To everyone out there who've been imprisoned by Verizon in this unrootable beast, we will prevail! I have been to the mountain top! And I couldn't see much because it was really cloudy ☁... BUT, I THINK MAYBE I saw a root on the V-orizon!
Hello, I'm a self taught techie currently exploring the world of custom ROMS. Only by accident did I really have to start using custom ROMS but now I rather enjoy them. Unfortunately I can't, for life of me, find a really nice ROM for my Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 (t230nu). Can you guys provide me with some good suggestions? Also I installed the Prism Barebones ROM and I like the speed that I have with it but unfortunately I lost a lot of my graphics for the games that I play. Can anyone provide any suggestions? Then on a side note, I'm looking for a rooting method for the new update to the LG G Vista for android 5.1.1 I've been keeping an eye out for anything and have yet to see a single thing. Suggestions and links would be greatly appreciated, also really interested in learning programming for some Android software if anyone has any good suggestions for a beginner.

Hello everyone. I just got a Verizon s7 edge and I am loving it. I have been away from the rooting screen for a few years. Is there root for it and if there is is it worth it? Are there roms and stuff like that? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Matt
There is Root available, DO NOT DO IT! Our Root is more of a workaround and it severely impacts performance and battery
Hi i'm thinking of getting the Verizon S8 during the black friday sale, my question is:
1. From people who own it is it generally a good phone and are y'all happy with it?
2. I saw the thread about rooting the US. Snapdragon version i'd like to know if there's anything different/would stop me from rooting since ill be getting it on Verizon? PS. ill be activating it on Verizon but buying it at BestBuy in case that makes a difference.
Thanks for your help

Personally knowing what I know now I'd be looking at a different phone. These things are carrier owned locked bootloader with no unlock on the horizon. The root method sucks with it being so long and complicated, reminds of the Sony Xperia days. Plus you lose 20% battery and there's no fix because locked bootloader. The list can go on but why bother I think you'll get the point. Have fun
I would suggest you OnePlus 5T if you want root, custom roms ecc. But if you want a freaking georgous screen that stretches at it's maximum, a great camera, and overall great build and design I would suggest S8. I have not rooted it yet, and personally I don't find the need to do it. Regarding the looks I can change through substratum or through custom themes(which just install as a normal apk but change even the notification bar). As far as speed goes it is pretty good, been using it for 5months and never noticed a big lag that bothered me.

It is a great phone, with an amazing screen, it´s super fast, has good batterylife and a great camera. All of it even with a stock Samsung ROM.
That said, if you are used to rooting your phones and installing different Custom ROMs and Mods, maybe the US S8 isn´t right for you. It´s a real hassle to root and it can only be charged to 80% after root. The ROM and Mod development is very slowly picking up with Flashfire, although I´m confident we will see some more ROMs in the future, since the installbase is quite big.
So, the Phone is great on it´s own, but I personally wouldn´t buy the US Version, if I would want to use Custom ROMs or Mods.
As everybody said its a great phone as it is . No need for root and custom roms . But if you are really into these things then don't buy it from any carrier .
