And the fact that other devices get the update means galaxy mini will? No. Also, don't compare the hardware of the x10, desire or atrix with the next

Hey guys I have read that se were to include dlna support in their 4th quarter update. I'm running 2.1 and see no sign of it. Am I not looking in the right place or will it be coming with the UXP update that is coming later on? Any one know?

yeah, it was stated as the 4th quarter update when there was a 3rd quarter update to 2.1 Seeing as this was pushed back to Q4, then the UXP update will be the 2nd update in Q4 and it should contain the DLNA functionality.
Thanks very much

Google announced android 2.3 .. Is our x10 hardware compatible to host Gingerbread?
Once the bootloader is cracked for sure. But they'll have a hard time making camera drivers and they'll have to wait for Sony to release multi touch and reverse engineer it for 2.3, but everything else will be able to run fine.

Yes it was released and my oldest son's Motorola Droid on Verizon already has the upgrade installed OTA when he booted up yesterday.
Isn't it grand waiting for SE and AT&T to get their collective heads out of their asses and push an upgrade out that is two revisions and eleven months behind.
Pathetic.
Are you sure about that? The sdk was only released a few days ago

Just pried it out of his hands and sw info states 2.2.1. Must be a small 2.2 upgrade. My mistake. Still doesn't provide an excuse for the ridiculous delay w/SE & AT&T.

Whats going to be the name of the next 2.4 android fw? Anyone feel like guessing? Another dessert maybe
It's gonna be called ice cream sandwich
Sent from my I897 using XDA Premium App
Google search is your friend. No need to start a new thread.
Honeycomb is Android 3.+
Ice Cream Sandwich is Android 4.0
2.4 is still Gingerbread. It is a minor branch.
2.0 and 2.1 were both Eclair as well.

Looking at it with Xperia range numbers, the 2.3.4 update is going to be named somthing like:
Code:
[STRIKE]3.1.X.A/C/D/F/G.X.XXX[/STRIKE] 4.0.A/C/E/F/G.X.XXX

2. 4 doesn't exist, you mean to 2.3.4 which is still gingerbread.
Question I have is what will the next android number be? Afterall the tablets have 3.0 so will it carry on from 2.4? Or go to 4?

there were rumors about 2.5 but 3.0 HC "honey comb" took it's place.
All the versions are named alphabetically.

As it's not a major update it will have3.1As opposed to the current3.0
Like I mentioned in the post earlier.
Edit:
It will probably be named 4.0 for the 2.3.4 update on the Xperia's

Thought id start this thread to create a bit of build up to the upgrade, im a regular arc user so ive still got another month or so to wait but il feel good if the arc s gets theirs on time, which being the end of march could be any day now. Sony seem to be quiet on this, anyone heard anything?
I'm hoping they release the ICS for arc s by the end of this weekend, the suspense is killing me slowly lol. I check this forum and sony blog post every morning.
As they said late March to early April, that could mean the update would between 15 March and 15 April.
Would love to get an update from SE on the progress for the first phones that are due upgrades.
Clearly feeling a little bit left out now that Samsung are releasing theirs.
Hasn't HTC also updated a device?
Sony is behind - again

I'm very enthusiastic about ICS too but doesn't it mean that we won't have our devices rooted anymore? I've linked tons of apps via Link2SD and my Arc don't have enough space to hold them all.
I'm worried when we will have to upgrade to ICS, AFAIK a lot of apps out there is not yet compatible with ICS, until the developer will upgrade the app.
But I'm also Excited because lots of optimization and features will be available to us, specially that Adreno 205 Driver will be included(I read it somewhere)

I think otherwise. Almost every app I tried is fully compatible with ICS.
Also, Sony has announced the neo L in China and it launches with ICS on board. It uses the same chipset as the arc (MSM8255). Perhaps we could port it when someone gets and uploads the filesystem dump, that is, if the device comes out sooner than the ICS update.
There's nothing on PTCRB yet and updates usually appear on here well in advance of the update actually being pushed. So it could still be weeks away assuming they haven't had any serious issues they need to fix first. It's been 4 weeks since the beta and not a peep from the Sony devs here on XDA which is a shame.

I don't think it will be a problem. I also have an Asus Transformer TF101, and that got ICS a few weeks back, no application compatibility problems, and it's REALLY quick (it was quick before anyway).

yeah i agree, in their blog post they stated "Over the next months we will be keeping you up to date on progress and we will also share video demos of the new software running on 2011 Xperia™ smartphones." it doesnt look good....
Probably see it in April, just my safe guess.
I am really looking forward to being able to force gpu acceleration because I don't like scrolling lag
i hope 2011 xperia can still support jelly bean in the future...
By XDA sure, by sony no. I doubt they will release another major update after this. Look at the X10, got gingerbread update and that was it.

There's 50% chance they will do it and if they do, Jelly Bean will probably be the last major update.

All ICS builds have 4.1.X.#.# and all GB 2.3.4 builds had 4.0.#.X.#.#. I highly doubt they would release a new Gingerbread build with ICS already released for months now. And I believe- as I stated in an old forum post of mine- the next ICS build might be 4.1.B.0.626 after the Neo L received it a few weeks ago. But until we receive anything official it's all speculation.

Was just browsing but the Xperia Play never had the ICS update (**** Sony) and this open source archive has Xperia Play files in there, and plus in the description:
Open source download for Xperia™ arc S, Xperia™ ray, Xperia™ neo V, Xperia™ mini, Xperia™ pro, Xperia™ active, Live with Walkman, Xperia™ neo, Xperia™ mini pro, and Xperia™ PLAY; software version 4.0.2.A.0.84.
