So I haverrooted and flashed CM7 today and there's quite a couple of things I really like
-Boot time is much lower
-SD card takes way less time to prepare after mount or phone restart
-Themes
-Custom Boot animations
-Overclocking
-You have way more customisibilty /lolwut/
-Gingurbread!
-A large communty willing to help
and more
Post what you like a lot about being rooted/cm7 in this topic!
Feeling, that phone is almost completely yours.
Im going to update soon to cyanogenmod I tried it out today but used my back up to go back because i didn't had much time today to install en set up everything i want on my phone. Does gps work with cyanogenmod?
If it doesn't I think you just need to reflash a radio
I went ahead and installed CM7 too
My top thing I love is Control
Even in CM7 there is apps I dont want i.e "mail" & "books"
Now I can get rid of them
I love the fact that I do not have teeter or stocks installed on my phone.
I love that I have changed the font of my phone.
I can finally change lockscreen.
Its faster! (Even angry birds RIO)
It looks more glossy/sharper (It looks like screen had a major upgrade??)
I have not OC'd my phone yet but I may have a play with that later
Text seems unclear compared to HTC default rom. Any help with that?
hey, do you know how to remove the vibration that happens when you unlock the phone(slide to unlock)

Underclocking improves battery backup. Make sure that the phone is in an underclocked state when not in use and depending on ur usage.
And common factors also matter. Like vibration, ringtones, brightness etc.

I did that too, but then found that my phone got too hot after a couple of hours of normal use. (Web browsing, casual gaming, etc.)
Yeah I was gonna ask about battery life, I rarely have wifi or bluetooth on and set up sync times to be every 4 or 12 hours usually with screen brightness quite low. Do you think I would see significant gains in battery life using CM7?
I'v read conflicting reports on CM7's battery life.

My battery life is considerably shorter than the stock Tom. But o love the fact that my phone is now mine to do whatever I want to. Installed cm7 and its pretty snappy.

And what about undervolting? Can we uv our devices, so battery life could be longer?
I'll add what I hate about CM7 vs Stock sense
-Battery life is almost 2 times worse. (at 600mhz)
-Contacts facebook integration is poor. (I can live with this)
-In order to use gps I have to flash a new radio. which I didn't because I am a tech noob
-Google maps text quality couldn't be any worse. Almost unreadable.
It's a beautiful rom. Such a shame.

Hey guys & gals just wanted 2 share something with u. I recently decided 2 uninstall cetcpu from my phone & decided 2 go with cpu tuner instead. In doing so i've noticed my battery life improve significantly with some profile tweaking of course. If you've run the virtuous htc sence rom with the pershoot o.c kernal u know how disgusting the battery life can b.It literally sucks the juice out of your battery like "Debbie" from Debbie does Dallas sucks the juice out of...well u know. Anyway,i also noticed how little juice the system resources now use up. I included a screenshot of the battery status screen.Hope this helps anyone with battery issues especially if your running the rom & kernal mentioned above, it worked 4 maybe it can work 4 u. P.S I have the screen set to 20% brightness, gps, wifi, blutooth, autosync all disabled.Only reason i mention this is because even with all these things disabled along with a few other,b4 installing cpu tuner my battery would still drain like crazy. Thx.

i have almost the exact same info on mine with setcpu oc to 1ghz on CM6.1 and i get atleast a full day of use with frequent music and texts. alot better then any other android phone.
I don't know how you guys are having such bad battery life. Currently at the moment I am at 22h 11m 51s since unplugged with 57% left. This is all with CM6.1 RC4 w/ wifi + wifi calling on all the time when I am home, autosync on for everything, auto brightness, and some use of gps. I listen to music on my phone for atleast 3+ hours walking to and from class + texting, browsing, facebook, twitter, fantasy league during class and the occasional call, pretty good usage. with setcpu on oc to 1ghz with some profiles set up.

Is the phone not quick enough at 1Ghz? I keep mines on stock speeds, have setcpu installed but don't use, and have CyanogensMod on it. I get the whole days worth plus more of battery. I can't even kill it when I want to recalibrate it.
A whole day for me is about 16-20 hours for me without charging. This is MADNESS!

Not that the phone is not fast enough. It's placebo effect where people "feel" that it needs to be faster when they overclock it at crazy speed. The G2 has already proved itself a speed monster, none of the android phones out there can top it right now. As for the battery life, I honestly don't notice any considerable improvement.

Is there anyway to increase the battery life on the aria? I love it, and I love sense, but within about twelve or so hours of moderate use in the day my battery is left with roughly 20%. With cyanogenmod, the same period of time and usage, I was left at 60% battery. I know the sense launcher and Widgets play a little part of that, but even with my hero, battery life wasn't that much of a difference between vanilla and sense roms.

I have read somewhere on the google (official google page about android stuff), using task killers does NOT improve battery life because background apps stated as "suspended" when they are in background. I dont know if I get it right. I will post link if I can find.
P.S. Couldn't find it but it was something similar with this:
http://geekfor.me/faq/you-shouldnt-be-using-a-task-killer-with-android/
Of course, you must take control off applications really "running" in background and preventing the phone sleep state. Not just "killing" all applications.

* I've resisted the urge to switch, only because I've heard wildly conflicting stories about how fast it runs on the Aria.
don't use task killer it will kill the app but the app will just start up again in the background cause the battery to run out. it says its in the background and that's true but its not running its idle and isn't affecting battery.

You might want to try out an app called Autostarts. Just make sure you don't turn anything off you really are gonna need. Try this with advanced task killer and the apps wont load back up.

Check that you do not have an app constantly running in the background - on my stetup, I found that the XDA app was burning 3-5% CPU time spooling in the background doing nothing. (using OSMonitor)
For what its worth, I went back to the Sense ROM (FR008) from CM6.1 because of strange battery behavior - some days dropping to 30-40% after a full day, others it would be dead by 5pm. I dont consider my self a heavy user either. I do not see a significant difference in battery life between the two ROMs, if you throw out the aberrant days that CM would go nuts on me.

That's an almost impossible question to answer as there are so many different factors involved which can affect battery life both on a custom rom and a stock one for example.
signal strength
push
gaming
screen brightness
Everyone will have a different experience and your best bet is to try different rom's and choose the one which suits you as a rom which is great for them may not be great for you.
If some rom creator would make make a black-red theme for his mod it would be probatly the best mod... Of course with all other goodies and tweaks.
Black-red theme because it would drain the lowest energy from the battary in the standart screen mode, but since we all use mostly different apps with different colors it will vary anyway.
To be fair, although it is purely anecdotal, people who have tried different ROMS while going through the sameness of their daily lives should be able to make a relatively valid comparison of battery life.
All the custom ROMs out at the moment are extremely close to stock, so I doubt there's much difference.

That would be funny if a lot of the battery problems are actually because we keep thinking it is flat when it isn't - it is just being mis-reported. Kind of iphone batterygate in reverse.
I had a lock up on my device the other night but didn't realise until the following morning when I found the device unresponsive and stuck on my last screen. Although I had to pull the battery to regain control, the screen had stayed on all night because of the freeze and the battery meter graph was red for about 7 hours. The screen was still on and bright before I pulled the battery though.
Think I will also try ignoring the meter today.

Hi,
Over the last few weeks I've noticed that my DHD battery is not lasting as long.
It has got seriously worse over the last 10 days. Phone gets switched on about 7.30am and by 4pm is nearly out of juice.
Not really doing anything with the phone - just sitting there on the mobile network with good cell signal. BT is off. Power saving is at maximum levels (no animations etc). It used to last until around 10pm and still have a good 6 or so battery segments left, but now it'll be dead by 6pm.
Nothing recently installed.
Any ideas on what may have changed?
Install currentwidget from the market and set it to log current usage. You will probably find your phone isn't going into deep sleep which is caused by a certain app.
Also see which app is using most battery. This could be an issue. On average 4-10ma on standby is seen.

I feel your pain buddy, my Dhd used to only last about that amount of time before I rooted, but then again I used to be at it all the time so not exactly the same set of circumstances. Must say I've been pretty happy about my battery life since flashing a new ROM but there's still no way i'm gonna get a full day from it
BTW - forgot to say that when checking whats been using the battery, it says display is the component that be using it the most.
I always hit the sleep / power button when finished with it so it doesn't drain the battery.

I've considered rooting it (It's an Orange UK supplied device btw) but I'm scared of breaking it.
I put a ROM on my previous phone so I do have some experiance of installing ROMs so I think it'll be ok if I did it.
Could I put the latest stock HTC DHD ROM out it without any issues and what benifits would I gain?
I've been very pleased with the virtuous unity ROM, it's got sense 3.0 and is super smooth, much faster than stock and better battery life. I couldn't see what benefit you would get from flashing stock room again though but i'm sure you could check it out on the forums if you're unsure.
I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1259821
And had no problems rooting whatsoever, just be sensible and backup your data and stuff and you should be fine I'd say. Dead easy process too, it's much less hassle than going through all the different steps that you had to before, just make sure you read through the details and you'll be fine
I've used about 5 or 6 different roms for my HTC One and right now I'm using SentinelRom for android 4.2.2 and I seem to be getting almost double the battery life then from the other roms. I didn't believed that sense based roms were superior than each other on battery or performance basis since htc one x days. But sentinel rom actually gave me a significant boost on battery life on all of my devices. (Nexus 7, HTC One, Nexus 4)

I believe that it's not really dependent solely on the ROM but there are a lot of factors like usage, brightness and other things that either give you a good or a bad battery life. I have used the stock ROM, Android Revolution HD, and Trickdroid, and I got about the same battery life from both ARHD and Trickdroid (I didn't really keep the stock ROM except for a day or two so I wouldn't know). It's sort of hard to track the usage exactly in order to compare between two ROMs, because I for one use my phone differently every day, depending on how much browsing I do, how many phone calls I get or make, how many dropped signals, the brightness level depending on the lighting condition, and such. I must say, though, that I am extremely happy with the battery life I get from Trickdroid but I cannot say that it gives me a better battery life than ARHD, for instance, because that would merely an unimportant opinion that is not based on facts.

I tried to run a full day similar to that of those with trickdroid, ARHD and RGUI. And I just feel like the battery lasted a little longer on this Rom. I'm not sure if these developers can tweak software to change how long the battery last or not? But it does seem like there is a deference. I guess I should run it for a week or so on each Rom to get a true test. All I know is I love this phone and a longer lasting battery makes me happy as I can use the phone longer
On a side note. I am getting pretty slow speeds on speedtest with LTE. I'm getting 2 to 3 bars? Anyone know what that's about?? I'm only getting like 1.5mbps down and same up??
