Better battery life? - HTC Aria General

Is there anyway to increase the battery life on the aria? I love it, and I love sense, but within about twelve or so hours of moderate use in the day my battery is left with roughly 20%. With cyanogenmod, the same period of time and usage, I was left at 60% battery. I know the sense launcher and Widgets play a little part of that, but even with my hero, battery life wasn't that much of a difference between vanilla and sense roms.

I would suggest an App killer. I have yet to try cyanogen's ROM but am on Attn1's Liberated Rom. I have Bluetooth enabled all day and by the end of 12hrs it is at 25% or so. Not saying switch. I would try Advanced task killer. Have many friends using that on their EVO's and Nexuses and their battery is wayyyy better.

I've tried all the tricks. I always have advanced task killer no matter what rom I'm running. I change thee location settings, network settings, screen brightness etc. I love htc sense but I don't want the battery life that comes with it. I know what my tricks are,i just want to see what the community had come up with.

I have read somewhere on the google (official google page about android stuff), using task killers does NOT improve battery life because background apps stated as "suspended" when they are in background. I dont know if I get it right. I will post link if I can find.
P.S. Couldn't find it but it was something similar with this:
http://geekfor.me/faq/you-shouldnt-be-using-a-task-killer-with-android/
Of course, you must take control off applications really "running" in background and preventing the phone sleep state. Not just "killing" all applications.

An update from liberated 007 to the newer 008 has given me tremendous amount of battery life back. With the cm kernel fixed I'm getting the same life that was expected out of cm 6.1

Mmmmm. If there's one thing that could drag me over from the standard Liberated ROM over to the Froyo ROM, it would be longer battery life.*
Perhaps I'll give it a shot this weekend.

* I've resisted the urge to switch, only because I've heard wildly conflicting stories about how fast it runs on the Aria.

don't use task killer it will kill the app but the app will just start up again in the background cause the battery to run out. it says its in the background and that's true but its not running its idle and isn't affecting battery.
sent from my rooted cm 6.1 aria

I have to say, at stock clock it got sluggish at times, overclocked to 800 though its running absolutely great!
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App

You might want to try out an app called Autostarts. Just make sure you don't turn anything off you really are gonna need. Try this with advanced task killer and the apps wont load back up.

Check that you do not have an app constantly running in the background - on my stetup, I found that the XDA app was burning 3-5% CPU time spooling in the background doing nothing. (using OSMonitor)
For what its worth, I went back to the Sense ROM (FR008) from CM6.1 because of strange battery behavior - some days dropping to 30-40% after a full day, others it would be dead by 5pm. I dont consider my self a heavy user either. I do not see a significant difference in battery life between the two ROMs, if you throw out the aberrant days that CM would go nuts on me.

so...hows your batter life? how much free ram do you have?

i bought my hero last week and ive been playing with it and installing alot of apps and such along with different roms testing the speed and overall battery life. right now im running fresh 1.1 rom and several apps from the market. the thing runs really fast and the battery life is amazing. it went all day yesterday and all last night and just now its at 29%. and this is with moderate use!
i do have a question though, how much free ram is normal for this phone. i see with all of my apps and such i have about 75-85% free when i use task killer. and yes my apps are on the sd!
also what would you guys recommend for a extended battery. i don't want a huge one that will require another back cover. just one that's a higher capacity.
edit: just a FYI, don't install the antivirus app from the market, it is a HUGE battery killer. i know we don't need the app but i wanted to test it out.

first read this. as far as your memory goes istalling and testing all those apps have you cleared out your cache recently? As even though the apps are on the SD they still store the cache on internal.
I'll second nixing the task killer. I was a skeptic at first, but I sacked the task killer and took note over the next two days. Much better WITHOUT the task killer.

Yup. Very happy with speed and reliability. Can't imagine why I ever needed a task killer.
Battery is way better than I expected. I play with my hero all day, browser internet, youtube watch, check email, download apps. The phone still has 20% more battery. And the memory control is good. I used to use taskkiller. But now I don't use it anymore. I don't turn off hero for 3 or 4 days, app runs quickly. But the Android system has to improve. It could be better.
Same here. Battery life is pretty good. Quit using a task killer and the phone is running great. If you have Astro or ES File Explorer installed they have a task manager/killer built in that you can use if you REALLY think you need to kill something.
Battery. There is a thread in the Sprint HTC Hero section on androidforums about a replacement battery that is higher capacity but fits with the stock battery cover. Everybody seems to love it.
It won't let me post a link to it, but you can go to androidforums.com and go to the Sprint HTC Hero section and search for Mugen Battery 1800mAh.

No I do not and I recommend everyone I know uninstall them.
I am using baked snacks 1.7 with the pre-loaded kernel running manup's theme and minfree manager on aggressive settings.
I had ninety percent this morning at five thirty and at five this evening I was at ten percent. That is with moderate usage while at work.

Task Killers are no good.
I uninstall the stuff I don't want and use "autostarts" to manage when the stuff I do want gets started.
No need for task killers when a) you prevent the apps from starting in the first place and b) they don't work anyways.

Yeah that sounds right. It was a paid app but very cheap. The icon is a little red car..
Also, spelled exactly: "autostarts", there is only one on the market.
It's a great app, a little tedious to set up but once you get it set it's a big help.
When you open it it will run and show you all the conditions that would start an app (not just at startup) and you can prevent, for example, photobucket from running every time you take a picture.

I quit using a task killer, my battery life didn't seem to change. I easily get 12 hours with moderate usage. I don't have a problem getting through a work day without charging. Stock Evo 2.2

You do realize Juice Defneder is not a task killer right?
The combination of Autostarts and Juice Defender net me over 24 hours off the charger with moderate to heavy use. I never chose to not use my phone in order to preserve battery, unless I'm below 10%.
Autostarts + Juice Defender = WIN

I'm a heavily user and manage to get atleast 4 hours.. but as juice defender which I did use and did help if you didn't use your phone, I just used the data widget and manually turn data off before I shut my phone off. I turn it back on if I use a app that uses data. Not a big hassel its a 1 click thing. Unclicked background data and auto-sync and notice the same or better than juice. The only thing I notice so far foe background data is market used it. I turn data on and open email and it syncs. My input on juice. Atk is a no no in my books.

I thought Android 2.2 removed the API that task killers use to kill apps?
The only things I use is the Running Services if something isn't closing, or SystemPanel, other then that, no task killers.. I use to all the time until I learned they really don't do anything.
Not anymore, I do keep an eye on system panel though.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I use ATK but only manually after I am done using an app. No point in keeping them in memory if I'm not going to be using it, I also leave the services alone and uninstall anything that likes to autostart. For battery life I regularly get 12 hours with fairly heavy usage for about four or five hours. That's streaming pandora, or using the music app, over bluetooth while browsing the web or reading the news. If I don't use it but for calls and some texts it will usually last a day or two.
Stock de-odexed ROM with Netarchy's 4.1.9 CFS kernel.
I'm almost positive that anyone running froyo is getting nothing out of using a task killer. Google axed the ability for these types of apps to work properly in 2.2. They are nothing more than a waste of cpu cycles and battery.

if you think its apps running in the background try something like advanced task killer which has a auto kill feature that way it will kill any excess stuff every 30 min or what ever you set it for
also system panel will like you monitor you device/cpu/battery usage and graph it over periods like 8hrs 24hrs 3days 7days so you can see what is really using up your battery and when
Okay ty so much pack!

You might want to look for 'super power' in the android apps section- I just installed it earlier today- seems pretty sweet so far, I didn't have any luck with task killer- it actually made my phone real choppy until i removed it, not it's smooth. Super Power is still in beta, but it's designed to manage your battery usage- and you can really tweak it for your preferences

Better battery life!

Hey guys & gals just wanted 2 share something with u. I recently decided 2 uninstall cetcpu from my phone & decided 2 go with cpu tuner instead. In doing so i've noticed my battery life improve significantly with some profile tweaking of course. If you've run the virtuous htc sence rom with the pershoot o.c kernal u know how disgusting the battery life can b.It literally sucks the juice out of your battery like "Debbie" from Debbie does Dallas sucks the juice out of...well u know. Anyway,i also noticed how little juice the system resources now use up. I included a screenshot of the battery status screen.Hope this helps anyone with battery issues especially if your running the rom & kernal mentioned above, it worked 4 maybe it can work 4 u. P.S I have the screen set to 20% brightness, gps, wifi, blutooth, autosync all disabled.Only reason i mention this is because even with all these things disabled along with a few other,b4 installing cpu tuner my battery would still drain like crazy. Thx.

I don't know how you guys are having such bad battery life. Currently at the moment I am at 22h 11m 51s since unplugged with 57% left. Not that the phone is not fast enough. It's placebo effect where people "feel" that it needs to be faster when they overclock it at crazy speed. The G2 has already proved itself a speed monster, none of the android phones out there can top it right now. As for the battery life, I honestly don't notice any considerable improvement.

System Panel Light

So I used to be totally against task killers. Well I've been experiencing horrible battery life since switching to froyo. I've tried different modems, every rom, every kernel, been doing everything to get the best batt life I can. I've found myself getting at best 8-12 hours of battery life. Which is livable. Well I read adryn's signature about how to win at Quad, and decided to try system panel lite. Been using the widget to kill all tasks about every hour and now I'm sitting at ~60% battery. It's been a light usage day but even how I've used the phone today I'd be around 5-30% battery life by now. So not a night and day jump, but a good enough jump to mention. I just felt the need to post this thread for those still struggling with battery life. Try this out and report back.
I will be sure to try it. I have struggled with battery life to the point that I actually went back to eclair for a bit . I can't live without froyo anymore so I am gonna try whatever it takes.

I recommend ES Task Manager. It isn't an automated killer (so no risk of it running rampant and doing more harm than good), and gives nice manual control for knocking out apps that are acting up. It is a nice upgrade from the stock one.
