[Q] Question about JIT and the Mytouch 4g. - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello I am new to xda. I have been over at sdx, where I use to have a Samsung Transform. Now I've moved to T-Mobile and have the mt4g.
I just rooted my phone tried out a few roms and liked the Ice Glacier rom as it is the stock on steroids as some put it...
My question is, does Ice Glacier already have JIT or is there a zip add on I can get for it. I have tried to find it but the search system did not find it for me. I looked the the original thread of the Ice Glacier Rom but did not see a mention of JIT in their post.

JIT is built-in functionality on Froyo and up, that's why you don't find any reference to it. It's just always there.

yes but some still make tweaks to it and make it an add on. There is always room for improvement in stock anything...

jit is on ask the devs if you want, jit was an issue on weaker phones only but is enabled on stronger ones. Jit hacks for eclair made it buggy, but its native for froyo and higher. Scores for quadrant and linpack would be lower with it disabled...

[Q] diffierences between roms?

what are the differences between the liberated rom and cm 7 nighties? what are the advantages of the two and which do you prefer?
One is froyo and the other is gingerbread. I prefer CM7 I guess I got use to the awesomeness that is the CM projects.

I prefer liberated FR0008. I tried 6.1 and 7, however, I missed the HTC widgets that those two lacked. Also the cyanogen mod ROMs were laggy on my phone, just slightly but noticeable.
liberated also has sense and CM does not. LPP has most of the sense widgets though. I prefer CM7 by far over liberated. You just have to decide if you want sense or not. I couldn't stand the sense ui so I tried cm several months ago and never looked back.

it's a personal preference...if you want android for what it truly is, go with one of the CM builds...if you want android for what HTC cosmetically made it with their sense ui (i.e. pretty widgets and programs and this and that) then go with one of the liberated roms. There's no reason your phone should be laggy on any of the ROMs to be honest, so don't mind what that dude said about it being laggy. If it seems so, overclock it slightly. CM7 now has a built in overclocking utility. Basically, if you want customizability to the max go with a CM build. If you want to be restrained by HTC and what they offer, go with one of the liberated builds. As I said in the beginning of my post, it's personal preference.
oh thats awesome. i actually have been using cm7 and was just curios what other people prefered. im sticking with cm7 too. thanks for letting me know about the built in overclock, thats quite helpful since i had been using setcpu instead. works great but can you explain what the first three presets are: interactive, conservative, and userpace? i understand the next three but not those ones

I personally cannot but I'm sure someone can.
I know conservative just scales up a little less aggressively. Not sure about the other two you listed though. Setcpu had a description for all the different governors types though.

I thought they both run FROYO, but CM7 runs a Gingerbread Theme.

The OP asked specifically about CM 7 nightly (AOSP 2.3 Gingerbread) vs. Liberated . CM 7 is currently a Gingerbread 2.3 development project while CM 6.1.1 is the official Froyo 2.2 AOSP project release. Liberated FR series is also Froyo 2.2, but it has HTC Sense instead of the native Android interface.

No...CM7 is built from the 2.3 source. What brswattts released for CM6 was THEME, CM7 is AOSP (Android Open-Source Project) 2.3.

Best GB Sense rom?

Just want to test the XDA waters and see what gb sense rom people like the best? Asking because I've come to realize I prefer the sense infrastructure (i.e. camera, dialer) but at the same time prefer LPP as my launcher (smoother and more functional imo). I love the sense 3.0 lockscreen hence wanting a gb sense rom, so I can push the lockscreen onto it.
So basically what is the lightest, smoothest gb sense rom?

It's made by Raffy and it's called insertioncoin
http://android-maisters.thedevboard.com/t53-portrommt4g_insertcoin_glacier_v10released
It has many 3.0 features but not carousel, it's really fast at 1GHz w/ conservative gov.
Hmm, cool thanks for the tip...I'm aware of Raffy but haven't flashed one of his roms...he was the first to get a sense 3.0 out for the mytouch 4g right?
I might give it a shot, but so far I've only flashed XDA roms...lol I like to keep it in the family

You can just look in Developers section. RoyalPanache is based on Canadian Glacier release - that's as stock (and thus bug-less) as you can get. And it has all the Sense 3.0 goodies ready, too. Any ROM derived from that release is functional.

Shalom my brother Lol yeah I'm quite familiar with the dev section, just thought I'd ask for peoples' opinions...sometimes it's easier than flashing 10 different roms, though for sure the only way to know is to try it oneself...
I'm on virtuous fusion now, and while it's great, I'm thinking a 2.1 sense rom will leave more ram available, which is my primary reason for switching away from the 3.0 fusion...plus I've been getting spotty data on this rom, so I'm hoping I'll get stronger results on something else.
Royal Panache. all is great, fast, smooth and haven't ran into any problems. Wifi data speed is fast also. fast ping and fastest download was around 19.33 mbps.
I love Faux123's Orange GB, he basically just took the canadian/panache release and sped it up a bit. I was running his Orange Glacier before all the GB releases and it felt like stock on steroids.
The only issue I had was remapping the genius button to google search, he moved the google search app to a user app, so I just had to make it a system app and everything was great. The HTC Sense 3.0 camera even works on it, and I couldn't get it to run on raffy's insertcoin (which I like, also) or virtuous (another amazing one).

So far
So far my personal fav would have to be eViL D's Virtuous Fusion.
Only thing I have found thus far being noticeably wrong is that the actual calendar app isn't scaled right but the widget is scaled fine so thats what I use instead.

Should DragonMOD switch to CM7 base? [POLL]

Ok guys, back to working on DragonMOD. What we need to know is how many people would like or would mind if we switched to a CM7 base. Some of the features that we want to implement would be 800x easier on CM7 base vs Stock base. Also I would like to clarify that this doesnt mean that the 2.2 kernel will be dropped, I will personally maintain the 2.2 kernel but the ROM would switch to CM7 and there would be a CM7 based kernel aswell. Please feel free to leave your opinion aswell. We dont want to abandon 2.2 as there are still those who need the barely but functioning GPS of 2.2, but as it seems for this project the Samsung base just doesnt cut it for the ROMs goal.
PS: oops on the typo in the poll XP
CM all the way with voodoo color and sound and if possible try the new drivers from optimus 3d, gfx are the same but reported to be newer version.

Idk about that, but I just want to say again, the ROM would be the main thing switching, I'd still be working on the kernel for 2.2 and a 2.3 kernel
If you were able to make it more battery efficient I think I would make the switch. I really love your kernels so it might be worth it.

i'm all for more cm7 kernels. i'm stock cm7 right now because bali hasn't been updated and something changed with cm7 so it no longer works.

That would be part of the goal, but I'd also be maintaning the 2.2 kernel so even if you didnt like it thatd still be an option =] This is all up for debate, if the consensus is to stick with 2.2 we will, if its for CM7 thats the way the rom and kernel will go with the 2.2 kernel being a side project of mine
Yeah if it were more battery efficient then go on ahead. Until then toxic 8 and dmz nightly kernel 3 will be my daily driver.

Need some suggestions

My Epic 4G is flipping out and I have a battery issue so I had to switch back to using an EVO 4G. Looking through the Development section for the EVO right now is an eye sore. I was hoping for a couple members to steer me in the direction of the latest CM Recovery and the best kernel for speed (I love mobile gaming).
PS - I loved MIUI even in its beginning stages. Has it gotten better?
Use Amon Ra instead of CMW. The learning curve is minimal, and it is worth it because of the reliability.
AOSP-wise, I would use latest MIUI with Tiamat 4.1.0. Should have links to that in my sig.
Sense-wise, can't go wrong with MikG with ChopSuey kernel. I prefer Sense, and I have tried all of the Sense ROMs. MikG is ridiculously stable and smooth.
If you need a refresher, check out the link in my sig to a guide I wrote up. It was written with Sense in mind, but it can be applied to AOSP ROMs and kernels too. Remember, wipe wipe wipe! And don't mix AOSP kernels with Sense ROMs and vice versa. I have that in my guide too, which ones are safe

Thanks so much bro. I'll look up AR. When I bought the phone from my buddy it already was rooted with CM7 though.
If you are looking to activate it, you can't do it with CM7 or any kind of AOSP. You'll need a Sense ROM, use a Sense 1.0 ROM. I suggest flashing Fresh ROM if you are going to activate it
Oh, and recovery is different than with the Epic if I read all that right. You don't need a specific kernel for recovery, recovery comes with its own. Links and instructions to install Amon Ra are in my guide, basically download it and name it PC36IMG.zip.
Oh, and get into the bootloader with Power + volume-down.

If you like the best of both worlds, you can install TN's Xplod rom,its cm7 meets sense 3.0 and you can mix and match kernels.I think its the best rom around TN's Xplod

Cool, I will check it out. Man the framerates on this phone are terrible while gaming. I remember it looking a bit better than this. I know it can't compare to the Epic, but is there anyway to better the frames on here?
Chainfire 3D app and overclocking is the only thing I can think of, sorry man. The GPU is poor on this phone and the processor isn't that Hummingbird, unfortunately. AOSP might be your best bet if you want sheer performance

[Q] New Glacier Flash-A-Holic Questions.

Hi everyone, I apologize ahead of time if these questions are redundant and can be found in different forums. I recently received a MyTouch 4G from T-Mobile as a replacement for my wife's lost Samsung Galaxy S 4G and am trying to set up a stable system for her.
I've already downgraded, rooted, and installed a custom ROM (currently CM7 7.2.0 RC1) but wanted to ask a few questions.
1) ROM recommendation? Rock-Solid ROM with non-buggy WiFi calling is a must since we have poor reception at home. I imagine that a ROM based off of an official T-Mobile base for the Glacier would be best but I'm not sure.
1a) For such a ROM, is there a preferred standout kernel?
2) Is there any hope for ICS roms to gain solid WiFi Calling capability?
3) Out of curiosity, why are there so many ROM ports? Are they just as stable and functional as one specifically for the Glacier?
Thanks a lot for your answers! I know it's very subjective but I'm hoping to get some good feedback so I don't have to keep deleting her data as I try out different things
Virtuous Unity is an oldie but goodie and everything works. Use the kernel it comes with.
There is always hope for any feature. Wifi calling will work well on ICS eventually. Give it time.
There are many very good roms for other phones that port well. The MyTouch 4G has two "sister" phones that share the same SoC and port easily. Why build a whole new ROM when you can port? Also, keep in mind that a non-ported ROM has to be compiled from source which, for the most parrt, limits you to AOSP, AOKP and CyanogenMod. We have lots of that. Any sense ROM that isn't based off of a glacier/panache build is going to be a port, as well as MIUI.
Edit: I almost forgot. Android Revolution HD is right up there with VU in functionality and is still supported. There is a camcorder fc, but a fix can be found in the thread. Doubleshot cam and 720p setting, as I recall.
Android Revolution HD
Best. ROM. Available.
yeah virtuous is good too, but ARHD is so much faster

I used to have an HTC Sensation (which my 1-year old son tragically dropped into a cup of joe) and ARHD was definitely one of the most stable and popular ROMs.
However, because of his commitment to a stock experience I had to flash several add-ons to get desirable tweaks (battery%, ultra-smooth rosie, extended quick-settings, custom power-button settings).. are these also available for the Glacier version? (I read the thread and it seemed like the latest version does not have these yet?)
Thanks again!
ps. Is it best to keep the kernel that comes with it?
flash rc tweaks. There is a link in that thread somewhere. Also, that kernel is really good. If you don't like it you could try thederekjay's sense kernel, but I doubt you will need to change.
The ROM called LeeDroid is good too, I've been using it for several weeks, no problems.

Thanks!
I installed ARHD 7.0.3 with RC Tweaks and it's been pretty darn amazing. Everything works (so far) and fast!
Thanks again for not letting me flounder around.. very much appreciated!
The real test is whether or not SHE likes it.
Haha.
I'm using CM7.2 RC1 along with thederekjay's Darkside Kernel and i have absolutely no problems and beyond excellent batt. life.

Call me blasphemous but Sense feels a lot smoother than CM.. have you seen how smoothly the screen transitions ? It also looks more polished IMO.
Having said that, is there any way to adjust the haptic feedback level on ARHD? It's too strong for my liking.. tried to search but didn't turnip anything.
