While still waiting for my unit. Anybody use there Iconia together with a Digital SLR on the field photoshoot?
So far only for viewing. The CF files (shoot both Cr2 and JPG) are readable through a USB memory card adapter.
Don't think you can tether for remote shooting like a PC, no Android app from Canon.
Sure wish I could color correct the screen!

I wonder if the DSLR can be connected directly via USB. But a card reader sounds a better option. Thanks.
I connected my Olympus epl1 to my Iconia with no problems. I used it to view photos and as storage when I ran out of space on the memory card. It recognized my camera with no problem.
My Nikon D70 connects happily to my Iconia A500.
I can successfully view & copy photos directly from my E-PL1, via USB starage connection.
Thanks for the reply. This is the type of device I have been waiting for to partner with my DSLR.
Can you view canon raw file on the a500? If so, what do you use?

I tried hooking a Nikon DS3000 up to my A500 this morning with a direct cable. Using File manager HD I was not able to get to the device as external USB storage. Then I used a memory card reader and got to the pics no problem.
I saw someone program a 'photobooth' style app for the I ipad, would be cool to have that with android. I'd be 2/3rds the way to having photobooth equipment to rent out to weddings, I'd just need a printer.

no raw support at all with the Gallery (ipad has)

There is a thread here on XDA but I'm having trouble finding it.
When I do I'll post it.
For canon dslr I use cr2 thumbnailer its awesome works perfectly to view and transfer, I would recomend not directly pluggin your dslr in to the tab, there's plenty of issues that could screw your camera up just use the card reader its like 5$ for one. Some devs could make bank off of developing things for dslrs i have plenty of ideas just can't create them.

Hhmm? Is it because the Honeycomb creates new folder when ever an external storage is plug in? (I noticed this when I plug in my flash drive while testing the unit in the store).

Yeah i mean could corrupt the cameras firmware or possibly wipe your SD card of all those beautiful pictures, computers aren't perfect.

is it sutable for transfer pairs of jpeg+raw?
ipad, if you know, can import jpegs, raws or pairs jpeg+raw, shows them correctly (only 1 image per pair), remove pairs...

Your talking about when you shoot and it saves both jpeg and raw, I havwnt used it this week but if I can remeber you can transfer any saved file, the jpeg and raw should be next to each other since theyd have the same file name just
Just download it. Very small app, they just came out with it so expect updates.

Has anyone else noticed that the transfer rate from your PC to the Xoom over the USB cable seems to be really slow?
Might there be a fix for this?
Coming from an iPad, its blazing fast.
I'm on a Mac though, perhaps its different since it uses software.
I just transferred 2 ~750MB video files in no time at all.

Did you also face its inability to write 2 or more files simultaneously? while you copy first movie to XOOM and try to copy another, the copy dialog will say that the device is busy... What type of filesystem is that?

Not a file system issue, but a protocol issue. This is not a mass storage device.

I wouldn't say "really slow" no, but it's also not mind-blowing quick either. It's just acceptable in my eyes.
Make sure you use the USB ports on the rear and not the fronts, the backs seem to be faster.
The way i understood it was that the internal memory was supposed to be an SSD but maybe i heard wrong.
With the release of Honeycomb, a stack of tablets are coming onto the market; some of which have a USB Host port. This creates a range of possible new uses for these tablets (one of which is the ability to copy photos off an SD card and onto the tablet).
Here's the scenario. You're going away and just want to take your tablet with you. You plan on taking lots of photos with your camera and want to be able to offload them onto your tablet in order to free up space on your SD card. Using the USB port, you can connect the card to the tablet (using a card reader or something similiar) but there is not an app out there capable of allowing you to easily transfer these photos onto the tablet.
I've tried using astro and it is far more complicated than it needs to be.
I'd love to see an app that can recognise the DCIM directory on an SD card, allow you to select which photos you want to copy, and ask you where on the tablet to save them. A simple, yet extremely powerful app!
Anyone interested in developing it?
Hi,just one quick question, does the gallery app in honeycomb detect the media files on usb drive that plugged in the dock?
if it doesn't,anyway to enable it or other apps can do this job???
It should just treat any external storage like any SD card, ie it should scan it and add media to gallery. This might take some time if the drive is large.
Thanks mate...I'll get my tablet in few days time, will try it soon...hope it does the job...I don't wanna view picture on external storage by using file manager which is pretty annoying and lame...
i could be wrong about it, but the other day when i stuck in an sd card, the gallery didn't recognize the pictures. Maybe I didn't wait long enough, but I remember I was kind of surprised about it. Could be since an eternal device maps to /Removable/whatever/ instead of /sdcard/
I think I ended up copying all the pictures to local storage just so they'd show up.
I hope that's something that changes though cause it sure isn't very intuitive...
OMG,thats bad...
I hope some one can clarify this statement...can someone test this for me?cause the device(16GB) is now shipping to me,and i got lot of photo(about 5MB per image) in my usb drive and HDD.I don't want to copy all of them to the internal storage.
Please,someone please test for me...

I just tried it out and plugged in some cheap USB thumb drive. The picture I uploaded didn't show up in the stock gallery (or I didn't see it because there's already too much crap on my internal storage). However, there shpuld be other gallery apps that are Android version and screen agnostic that should do the job, so don't worry mate
Oh, and I tried ScanMedia app to rescan after plugging it in, too. But I waited only for like 30 seconds, so it might take longer.
The built in gallery does not pick up images from external drives other than the micro SD slot..
HOWEVER
This app does:

and very quickly too.

In a nutshell - it's not supported but is doable.
Check out the xda thread located here - http://tinyurl.com/3as3xpu
Looks like a copy of XNJB might work, I however do not own any Apple hardware so cannot give it a shot myself. Might be worth a try! http://tinyurl.com/yaqhp5
Also, just to keep the mood light - this is the best Apple compatibility chart ever: http://tinyurl.com/3t79s4j
also forgot to mention
If you like, you can always use a flash USB stick to move files between your Mac and Iconia, or a USB hdd.
Try the free app on the Market, software data cable.
It sets up the Iconia as a FTP server that you can connect to with any FTP client ( Cyberduck works well on Mac, FireFTP plugin for Firefox etc). Works wirelessly, with any computer on same subnet, regardless of OS.
You only get access to the added SD card if the Iconia is rooted, and the app settings have root access checked. Look under /mnt/external_SD.
I believe the problem might possible go away with 3.2, but it has not arrived here yet to know.

Howdy
I have an LG G2 and would like to take a picture/video with the camera and have it save to the otg usb instead of internal memory.
Tried google but not much joy. I would like to use the default camera app as it can do 4k video but a third party app will do for pics.
Any help appreciated.

it depends whether ur Camera app allows you to save pics to ANY location. I expect you are on stock hence it depends upon it ROM.
If the destination directory for captured images is still hardcoded in the Camera app in this manner, your options are pretty limited:
1. Hack the operating system so that Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory
returns the physical SD Card path (thereby redirecting other data to the card,
too) without breaking anything
2. Write a new camera app that gives you the option of where to save
3. Download a camera app from the Market that gives you the option of where to
save
Option 3 sounds a little easier.
after searching a bit I stumbled upon this u should consider asking your question here. forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2298852
Hi
Thanks for the reply. I will investigate the os hack but I am struggling to find a camera app that allows custom save location and video recording, some offer picture custom save destination but not video.

Installed this. Is the intention to create a folder on the phone internal memory that is then mounted on the usb mounted memory? My head hurts abit. Lol
If set the default dcim folder to my otg usb memory will pics/video be saved there? I need to order an otg cable then.
Thanks for the advice.
CAMERAOTG may satisfy your request.

You may able to try this APP, The video will be saving to USB OTG directly , if you plug in
Sometimes you don't plug in OTG disk , the video will be saved in internal memory automatically.
from description , the first priority is USB OTG rather than Internal memory.
url : play.google.com/store/search?q=cameraotg
or search 'CAMERAOTG' from playstore.
I might be a bit late, but i managed to record directly to otg usb flash drive with Chainfire's "Stickmount" app and with Cinema FV-5. Stickmount creates a mount folder in the phones sdcard folder and in Cinema FV-5 you can set the destination folder to be the mounted usb folder. Sounds complicated but its really easy
