Hi all,
Nexus S 2.3.4 stock
I9023XXKD1
GRJ22
My Nexus S camera won't autofocus. It happens with the stock photo/video app, as well as with other apps, like barecode scanner.
Am I the only one? I've searched the web and got no result.
I don't use the camera often, but I think it used to work, I remember using Prixing and it worked. Recently, I tried to scan a barcode with Google Goggles and it failed. I downloaded Barcode Scanner and the scan failed. The camera just sees a blurry image. I went to Appbrain to try Barecode Scanner to scan some QR Codes, like I used to do with my Motorola Milestone, but it failed to focus.
I updated my phone manually a few months ago from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 as the autoupdate failed. Maybe I didn't use the good update.zip?
If I remember correctly, I used this one : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056062&page=23
That's why I did a factory reset, as it was in 2.3.3 when I bought it. Unfortunately, it stays on 2.3.4
I'd appreciate if you could take some time to figure out with me what's wrong with my camera.
Thank you

a factory resets just deletes all the data. you keep whatever software youre on. go to main settings, applications, manage applications, all, camera.. now delete the data. try your camera.
Thank you for your answer.
Even though I'm sure I did it before doing a factory reset, I followed your advise and delete the data from the camera application.
My focus is now functional.
Thanks again

Hello! I'm writing about a problem I have with my i5800. I'm on Froyo 2.2 XWJPM. On the phone of course there isn't a calibration tool. I cannot for the life of me calibrate the g-sensor of the phone, which is a little off in the pitch parameter. I have tried almost everything:
1) Play and change settings in the akmd_set.txt file in data/misc. Also tried deleting the file. The g-sensor just ignores the settings in the file
2) /system/bin/sensorcalibutil_yamaha wont run. Not even after deleting /data/system/ms3c_yamaha.cfg. Also tried editing the file. Nothing. (I am root of course)
3) Tried with other firmware (e.g. XXJPM) again nothing.
Note: Calibration seems to work fine in utilities like GPS Status. However I need a way to calibrate the phone globally, and not just one app.
Thank you!

Hey guys. I tried searching about but can't seem to find anyone with a similar problem. After updating my phone to 4.3, the stock Gallery app has been misbehaving. All the thumbnails show up as grey and full image viewing also shows grey. I know the pictures aren't corrupted because other apps can view the images fine. Even when taking new photos, the new pictures also show up grey in the Gallery (also in the stock camera app since it's tied to the stock Gallery app). I've tried wiping cache and data for the Gallery app to no avail. Anyone has any idea?
Here is a screenshot of the problem.

Delete everything in /sdcard/Android/data/com.google.android.gallery3d.
Wipe data for Gallery app.
Profit.
Edit:
Right, if it comes up need permission error, read this: https://plus.google.com/app/basic/stream/z130i1nx3qzrc12ey23wcdp55terwvove
the last part "Fixing internal storage issues" is what you need to do.
Thank you! Turned out the permission really was the problem. Clearing cache wasn't working since I didn't even have permission to edit the cache.

Just thought I'd add a little to this, I flashed my father's Galaxy Nexus with the 4.3 yakju image, except for the user data partition, keeping his 4.2.2 one from a nandroid backup. (The phone was back from warranty with a new screen, on an outdated yakjuux ROM i.e. the factory authorized repair centre didn't even bother writing the current yakjuux build. Plus I found the whole 4.3 image first, so didn't bother with the OTA.)
He encountered the missing pictures issue, new images and video not even saving. The busybox chown -R 1023.1023 /data/media/* Chainfire suggests fixed it.
I thought there might have been something in the OTA script taking care of this, but can't find it after checking... I'll assume the 4.3 blank user data partition does too. Strange.
So after the first week with this device I get a strange QuickRemote problem. It give me a blank page after tipping something in the app. QuickRemote.apk data/cache clear don't help. What could I do?

Cache and Data Cleaning DONT HELP
There was a report from a member with the exact same issue as you have, however, he said he did root and also delete one of the corresponding file, that was his problem, and soon after he move that file back into the system, QR worked as normal. Your case is kind of strange since you haven't rooted it yet.
My suggestion is factory reset.
Remember, you will lose everything, so backup first.

Done a LG Backup , transfered to my sister N4 and after factory reset made a reset of backup It seems that it worked Thanks you.
Was QuicksetSDK frozen or removed? Quick Remote needs that file to work properly.

common solution for system apps or better to say preinstalled apps is to clear cache, data, force stop and re open it.
Setting > Apps > Camera > Clear Cache, Data, Force Stop
then try to re open app and check issue.
Possible solutions If problem remains
- you need to restart phone.
- reset to factory
- Flash another stock firmware (that u can find in sammobile.com/firmware) via Odin

Thankyou for your help but I have already tried your first suggestion and unfortunatly it didn't help.
I was also thinking I may need to Factory reset or flash another stock firmware as I have tried deleting the app itself and installing again but I still have the same problem.
I just find it strange that I cant seem to find any info on any one else having the same issue...
Anyway when I have abit of free time I will look for a firmware and give it a try. In the mean time any other suggestions are welcome.
Regards,
Gary.
Well I figured out what was causing this. It seems installing xposed stops my stock camera app from working as previously discussed.
The app is fine installed but when the firmware for xposed is installed the camera app doesn't work, when the firmware is uninstalled the camera app works fine.
If anyone has any info on this then I would appreciate it if you could share.
I'm also gonna ask in the xposed thread to see if anyone has any explanation or info. Hopefully I can get to the bottom of this and sort it out.
Thanks if any help or info is given.
Regards,
Gary.

Interesting behavior lately, on my sg5. There are times (more and more often, recently) when neither Google's camera app, nor camera zoom fx show anything on the screen, as if there was no visibility through the actual camera hardware. Rebooting the phone brings back functionality, but only for a while (a few hours), after which the strange no image comes back.
I have also experienced strange "disappearances" of pictures I just took, which show up in a gallery app (the default, or quick pick), but which are nowhere to be found after closing the camera app.
Has anybody seen anything similar? I would really hate to go back to resetting to defaults - had rooted and xposed customized this phone to my liking. And - no - this behavior is not associated with any recent xposed activity / configs...

I have similar on stock, without root.
When I open up default camera application, there is no picture, just blank screen and phone becomes very laggy. Screen looks like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
But it happens just sometimes.
E.g. once per 3 days and soft reboot is the solution.
Don't know the root cause Mine is SM-G900FD with BOC1 firmware.
Tried a factory reset already, but didn't help. Didn't try safe mode yet, as it might be related to some application e.g. facebook, viber, etc. which has access to camera.
Happens to my also since Lollipop on SM-G900F, tried the new stock BOC7 and now is better but it still there, the error and the blank screen. I noticed it happens more often in the evening/night. I've tried everything, wipe cache, reset camera. Hope Samsung will release a fix, no problems whatsoever on KitKat,

I see, so that will be probably different issue. Mine started also with lollipop, there were no problems on kitkat.
