Trying to select text in the browser definitely needs some refinement.
It's very buggy and difficult.

One has to get used to it. Don't know the official procedure, but long pressing on some text and setting the markers manually always works for me.
I've been to several sites where the markers jump all over the place. It tends to happen quite often if the paragraph or sentence has a mixture of text and hyperlinks.

Its wonky.
Old winmo and iOS still best at it.
Stupid arrow jumps all over and often cant be aligned correctly to the word I want.
Perhaps the browsers awful rendering of some pages is whats at fault. Since text input as a whole just slows to a crawl on some sites.

On my iPod, when I long press on some text I've entered, a little magnifying glass pops up and allows me to easily move between letters in a sentence to fix errors. With Android, there's no real way to do this. I don't have a trackball and tapping where you want the cursor to move is very inaccurate.
I remember some talk about developing something similar to iOS4's letter-to-letter selection, but a search didn't return anything on it. Has there been any development on this?

You know, I was wondering the same thing! Hope there is some solution down the road, I was thinking maybe that will be incorporated into Gingerbread.
This would be pretty cool to have.

Am I the only one who thinks it kinda sucks? Sometimes it's really snappy and fast, and once the page has loaded scrolling is really quick. However a lot of the time it seems worse to me, especially the xda site. Text input is abysmal now (not just xda) so slow, and much worse than 3.0.1. Other bugs include no backspace in text boxes, not being able to click on links, font rendering a bit blurry when not zoomed in, and keyboard randomly getting stuck on caps.
Is it just me?
Not just u...it sucks. Such a shame as everything else is great. Text randomly not appearing in text boxes....pages not loading entirely...slow text input from dock...most annoying may be links not highlighting which leaves u guessing where u tapped. Hope a fix comes soon.

I've actually been finding the one on the stock build a but bad too.
How about other browsers?
You can't complain too much because you have to remember that 3.1 isn't officially out yet

Yeah, I just noticed my keyboard lags REALLY badly when trying to reply to posts on XDA. That got much worse. Haven't tried any other sites or different keyboards yet.
I hate how the page redraws images when you scroll.

Are you using asus' default keyboard? Because I know that keyboard is laggy so I use the Android keyboard
Edit: and I may not know what I am talking about because I have not been on the xda website I just use the xda app.

I was hoping that they improve the speed on the browser in 3.1 but look feels the same like in 3.0. Pages takes a long time to load. Typing is a pain in the ass even with the android keyboard. Surfing and running playerpro is very slow. Opera mobile seems to be the fastest browser ive tested so far, but the font is way tooo small and theres no way to increase it.

I was using the ASUS keyboard. And I had some lag with it before, but it was never anything as bad as this.
I just switched to the Android keyboard. It's just as bad with that keyboard too.
I tried on another forum and it seemed normal. So it might just be this forum. The browser has never liked it anyway.
i posted this in the other thread. there are lots of browser issues with this. ill stick with it because there are lots of other improvements, but i doubt this update as is will be released to the public this week.
i didnt find that many speed issues. i was using flex T9 keyboard though. I will test tomorrow some more but i was thinking the browser had some nice improvements especially with the "quick controls"
I've seen that the thumb keyboard is quite popular. Wonder how it is working with this.

I like thumb kb a lot, lot of good settings.
Thumb keyboard has sped up since 3.1, at least for me, it flies now.

I agree that Thumb keyboard is blazing fast now. There was an update to version 4 a couple of days ago so I'm not sure if that was the reason for the speed increase or Honeycomb 3.1, but it is very responsive now.
I normally use Tapatalk to access XDA, But I'm using thumb keyboard to post this reply on the XDA website directly - there is a little lag, but not too much.
Regards,
Dave
Forums in general suck on honeycomb. I gave up entirely and just use the xda app.

I wish you folks wouldn't call it 3.1, because the official 'propper' 3.1 isn't released yet.
Whaat you've got is 3.02 or something found by a cleaner at asustech in the garbarge bins on a CD, they then uploaded it to the web and called it '3.1 leak' and you've all fallen for it! you then all come on here and start winging about, your gullibility is laughable

Is that supposed to be a joke? It is most certainly 3.1.
In response to other posts, I'm also using thumb keyboard but still get a lot of lag, only in browser though so it's not a keyboard issue. Engadget said the browser took a massive hit in JavaScript performance with this update so maybe that's why. I'm thinking this isn't the final build so I'm looking forward to the official ota.
Like others have said though, even though the browser is worse in some regards the improvements in other areas of the rom make it worth sticking with
Hello to all,
I noticed that the browser became laggy, i can't scroll smooth. It's not on every page but it is on XDA (for example).
When I bought the tablet it was working better.
Anyone has the same issue?
Same thing here. Especially on XDA.
This perfomance drop is due to poor javascropt support on all honeycomb tablets.
Not fixed with 3.1 as per the xoom and tf forums so dont hold your breathe. Here the real issue is not your tablet but it is googles OS.

try running in desktop mode. in the address bar type "about:debug", thn go to settings, debug, uastring, and change to desktop
also scroll to the bottom of the XDA page.
And switch it from XDA 2010 to XDA classic.
Classic doesn't look as nice, but it is a ton smoother.

No, just after each reboot. Which is still a pain and is something that really should have been addressed. This issue was present in Android 2.2 and should not have been allowed to creep over into Honeycomb.
When replying to a post on XDA from my Note 3, the cursor in the reply windows keeps jumping about. It doesnt go where I want it to go. Im trying to put the cursor after the '[/QUOTE]' tag but it keeps jumping back up to the middle of the post!
The stock browser is worse than Chrome as in the stock browser, when trying to select text, the cursor is jumping around like its on a pogo stick!
Clear cache from the apps. Close it and try again.

Just install the XDA app or Tapatalk.
I prefer the website tbh
Same issue Samsung stock browser is pretty crap. HTC stock browser is far better.
One solution you could try is revert back to xda classic view that will solve cursor issue.

Try changing the browser type to XDA 2013 Beta 1024. Very bottom of the page, left hand side.

Noticed a problem with the stock keyboard. Many times if I go to click one of the suggested words on top it puts a totally different word in the text field, usually the word isn't even one that was on the list.
Anyone else notice this?

Try to turn all settings off like the auto correct etc and then turn on each one after testing them one by one..see if that helps:silly:

I love the keyboard with the numbers always being on top, makes it so convenient and its just my favorite but. I don't see an option to let you backspace to erase the whole word with once click if you change your mind or just put the wrong word up, I can't stand having to hold the backspace all the way through it. So I'm using Swiftkey for now which is an awesome keyboard but doesn't have that dedicated number pad along the top but actually has many features that I don't care about and tons of themes too. I hope someone tells me that backspace setting is under my nose so I can use the LG one hehe. :silly:

Yea I thought I'd be able to place the number keys up top when I purchased swift key but it won't. I much rather prefer the numbers up top.

Yeah I love the top row as well, and it generally does a good job but does get stupid some times. I usually use the Google keyboard or Swype but have liked the lg one for now, just giving it a chance.

Did you ever find a solution to this? It's maddening. I tap the word I want and some completely random word that wasn't even close to what I tapped (and wasn't in the list of suggestions) shows up in the text box. I have searched and searched and you are the first person I've found who has had the same issue. I love everything else about the keyboard so I'd rather not switch to a different one!
Come on peeps, #1 app in the play store for months now. SwiftKey is the best keyboard out there. Stock is a bad keyboard.
