Dont use your old data.img with new build. Use Titanium Backup Pro instead and only backup usr apps not system. Using old data.img can cause issues.
Backups your apps and a clean install.

Thx for your help! - What you said has done the job. Backuped my data with appmonster instead of Titanium Backup Pro, wiped the Android directory on the SD and made a fresh install of BoxMax 6.6. After boot up, i restored all my apps with appmonster and the whole system is running now. The next time, i will finally flash the rom to NAND ;-)

faster way to reinstall applications after a wipe?

Hi guys
i was just wondering if there is a faster way to reinstall applications after doing a wipe?
example ext backup from nandroid?
i try out a lot of roms but eventually want something new and i just hate having to reinstall applications all over again
thanks
faster than what?
the ext backup from a nandroid will copy the apk files back to your ext partition, but doesn't recreate the market links. titanium backup will do this, and will do it fast in the donate version.
Just a random thought: Say you've backed up all of your apks using Titanium Backup, is there a way we can copy all the apks to a new ROM all in go (just like how the ext backup does it) and then let the Market Doctor on Titanium Backup restore the market links later?
Surely this way it'll be quicker, right?

Donate version of Titanium Backup does that. It restores all your apk's with data in one click. Well worth $3.99.

Yeah it does, but it takes quite a while (especially when you have a lot of apps).

I use Android Commander for backing up the apps and restoring them after flashing a new ROM. It's one (automated) process of about 2 minutes (for my apps list).
Mind it though that it only installs the apks, just like they'd come from the market, the settings and cached info gets lost.
PS: I can't post links just yet but you can look for this tool in the "Hero, G2 Touch Themes and Apps subforum"

Totally agree. I usually have between 130 and 200 apps installed (I try lots of apps because I'm a curious sort), so restoring may take 15 minutes, but that means all my settings AND market links are restored, so everything shows up in My Downloads.. that's worth a little wait!

Agreed. Very good advice
Personally I just use shell, having previously copied all my apps to a folder on my sdcard
# mkdir /sdcard/sppz
# cp -a /data/app/* /sdcard/appz
You can do this with paid apps but to avoid banning I won't say how
Then restore with
# cp -a /sdcard/appz/* /data/app/
Only restores apks tho, no settings but handy for new time as it doesn't require an app. You canjust use adb

Best backup on Froyo rom?

What is the best backup method for the froyo roms we are all running?
I usually use My Backup Pro but it doesn't restore all my apps for some reason? Also used Titanium but ended up stuck at white HTC screen after a restore and even nandroid restore to clean rom install didn't work. Was I just unlucky once with Titanium? Can titanium backup SMS etc too I only saw apps it never restored SMS. Thanks!
Titanium Backup does it all for me.
SMS's, e-mail(accounts), wireless networks. (All apps, appdata and systemdata)
Can't think of anything it doesn't backup.
I always run a batch backup, this force closes running applications (although this is optional), so this might cause a white screen.
It's supposed to do everything you want, so there's no need to look any further (unless it really doesn't work for you...)

Mate, whar version of MyBackup Pro are you using? I know that there were certain bug fixes after v2.3.3. Im using v2.3.4 and it seems to work fine when backing up and restoring apps/data.
Try the later version.
2.3.6 so I guess it is some incompatibility somewhere. Just gone back to MCR 3.1 and it did the same. Probably less than half my apps were restored!
i can confirm that Mybackup pro 2.4.0 works flawlessly on froyo.. im backing up as we speank
If you have the native A2SD enabled on FroYo, MyBackup Pro won't back up the apps that are on the SD card.

i'm using titanium, not had any problems with backups. i use A2SD+ not the froyo A2SD though.
I use backup pro.
just make sure you have a partitioned sd card with can be done with rom manager or you will lose all your sd apps when you wipe before installing a new rom.
as i did..... haha

[Q] switching nand rom

how do i change roms and keep all my stuff?
You're gonna need to start backing up and restoring what you want to keep. I recommend titanium backup.

Titanium Backup will backup all apps and most data (like settings, preferences etc.). Beware that if an app offers to download something for additional functionality, that will not always be backupped, as it isn't always stored in the same location. No harm done there, as it doesn't contain settings in such scenario. If you restore the app, all settings will be restored too.
Sincerely,
Mac

nope. you pick the apps you want to backup and then in the new rom you restore them all.
i wish there is a simple way to change rom like copy one file...
but you all say thet titanium backup is the right thing to do so....
thx.

What i did when i installed CM7RC1 and wanted a clean slate.
I downloaded Titanium Backup, ran a batch backup of a all of my apps. Moved that to my computer. Formatted the card then put Titanium Backup back on my phone installed CM7 then did a batch restore.
Is that the only folder I keep and delete everything else?

it could depend on the options you choose in Settings and during Restore: as far as system apps go I prefer to stick to data only and select (carefully and selectively) only green items from the list, occassionally sth happens and some of the apps FC on me (e.g. market or Gmail) , but then clearing relevant app data under Anroid Settings / Applications usually helps
