it could depend on the options you choose in Settings and during Restore: as far as system apps go I prefer to stick to data only and select (carefully and selectively) only green items from the list, occassionally sth happens and some of the apps FC on me (e.g. market or Gmail) , but then clearing relevant app data under Anroid Settings / Applications usually helps

I'm a total noob so i need some information regarding the costum ROM. I've checked some tutorials on how to make the thing work. But i have a last question.
I need to do a full wipe in order to get the new ROM to work. So i will lose my data. I want to back them up, in order to restore them later on my new rom. So if i use the titanium backup. How exatcly do i make an backup to get it work later on new ROM.
Thanks for anwsers =)
There's no way you could just back-up your settings and then restore all of them if you want to switch ROMs because the applications would differ in each ROM and new data would be needed.
If you want to back-up your entire ROM (the original one) before changing ROMs <highly recommended, you could use the "backup" feature in xRecovery.
If you want to back-up your apps, I suggest you use Astro File Manager since Titanium Back-up will only back-up ONE APP unless you go pro.
Back-up can be found by clicking the Left Key>Tools>Application Manager/Backup
Regarding your settings however... Titanium can back-up your Wi-Fi settings or Contacts so maybe you could use that.
If i wanto install custom ROMs i do first is backup all of my phone things in xrecovery, so if i'm not comfort to use the customs i restore the fresh one .
for the contacts back up i export contacts to sdcard so i can import it for the new custom ROMs later.
for the apps and game i backup with titanium backup.
thats simply what i used to do before install customs ROM

if you have back up on titanium, after you installed the new custom ROM all you have to do is re install your titanium back up and you will see the back up apps that you have in the earlier ROM, and restore it.

oh and one more question. do you know what to do if i have a costum rom from racht alredy on my device and want to install another rom
i want to install a [ROM] 2.2.1 MiniCM-1.0.0-Beta2.1 port for x8 (update.zip). Can i just add the update.zip or do i have to go back to stock and thank install the new rom?
Hi Guys
I have the rom that you can see in my signature. I'd like to know if, when I'll install the JVH 2.3.3 ROM, I can restore my saved apps with TitaniumBackup without problems.
Thanks
Yes, just remember not to restore system apps. It is also best in my experience not to batch restore but do it one by one, and for most of them just restore the app, not data. Only restore app+data when you really need whatever settings were in the app.

so if i restore app+ data, would I be able to restore the game save files?
like for baseball game..i developed my player to be really good (trained for many hours)
i dont want to lose him
lkh5650, saves are in these programs and will be restored along with them.
I am moving from 2.2.1 to 2.3.3 using Titanium restored all the programs, their data and some system data, as pim (log of calls can not be restored). Everything else I do not advise.

thanks for the reply
does that mean i only need to restore the app?? i dont have to restore app+data?
lkh5650, I always choose "Restore all apps with data", and then remove the check mark in the list of unnecessary items (all red - is a system software, and optionally the green - leaving only pim).
Thanks guys!
However, I backup the 90% of the "user apps" (I exclude big games and so on). Then there is no chance to restore system apps or something like this.
Thank you again!

Note that you can't revert SMS/MMS from 2.3.3 to 2.2.1 with TB, the database are incompatibles.

Contacts/Texts/(+other system data) is okay from 2.2.1 -> 2.3.3
However, if you backup system data from 2.3.3 and restore it to 2.2.1 you will get force closes.
So you can upgrade and keep your data, but can't revert

my experience
hey guys,
i moved from JPJ 2.2.1 to JVB 2.3.3 with all ease and no probs at all. even restored all my messages and contacts. here's what i did.
1. backup eveything with titanium. all of it.
2. use go sms to backup all your sms's.
3. use contacts to export ur contacts to sd.
4. flash JVB da way u want.
5. once ur on 2.3.3 and running all well. install TB. goto batch option. click restore missing apps. in the menu select apk only. and recheck all apps are user apps only. if there is a system app (in green or red) deselect it.
And voila! all ur apps are back. now u can pick and choose wich ones u want to restore data for. personally i found restoring data for games is no problem.
6. via my files app goto ex-sd card and find out the .vcf file that was created by contacts and click it. itl will restore all ur contacts.
7. reinstall go sms. and restore your messages.
8. create a nandroid as quickly as you can so u can avoid all the inconvenience and simply restore data from nandroid when u change to another gingerbread from this one.
Cheers! and happy flashing
When migrating to a different Android ROM, what is the easiest way to migrate over the apps? Would doing a data restore from the old rom work or maybe titanium? I would hate to have to do a list of all the apps and find them all over again...
Thanks!
titanium and / or astro will actually let you back up your apps (the apks). i use astro (tools > backup i believe - and is free. or if you used markets, etc. will work too of course.

I use Super Box (download it from market, its free)
First you have to back up all apps into SD card.
Then, everytime you change android,
Firstly reinstall Super Box, and then choose menu "Installer"
Then you can see all your apps (in the form of installer file .apk)
Just click what ever you want to install in the new android rom..
Cheers...
If you are on nand rom wipe data in cwm, install new rom then dovan advanced restore with data and if u used a sd-ext also restore the sd-ext.

Why do you have to individually re-install each apk? When I used WM and SPB Backup and did a restore, it restored all my apps back without doing an individual re-install. Isn't there an app (Backup/Restore) that will do that in Android?

Yes but that only installs apps you have installed via market, It doesnt install apps that you side loaded and it doesnt restore the app data, only the apk file.

Yes, what you need is Titanium Backup Pro, It is THE best backup solution on Android for apps/data.
You can do anything in batch (pro version).
Trust me when I say that this is what you need!

Did you even bother to read what I said properly?
You need the "pro" version, then you can use the "batch" option in backup/restore. I use this all the time, I can restore ALL apps in 1 go, Absolutely no need to restore individually!!!!!
You can even create a update.zip and flash via recovery instead if you wish

Yah! I read what you wrote. I just told you what I am using. It is a piece of dung. I am glad that you have such a good disposition. Maybe you should take some time off and try to learn how to communicate with others. You are much to blunt! If you can't hack it, move on. Tell me, what is the purpose of TB.

Im going to tell you this one LAST time..
TB DOES support batch and DOESNT need to do it individually. If you are having to do them individually then you do NOT have the "Pro" version, You need to purchase (or get elsewhere) the Pro ticket to update your version before you get all the extra features.
Once you have the Pro version you can restore ALL your apps in one click without having to restore them individually.
Also why the fook are you trying to insult me for you ungrateful p.o.s, I'm here trying to help you!!
TB is the best program in its field, It has the most features and its the most advanced aslong as you have the Pro version, If you are looking for something more then you are simply out of luck so get over it and upgrade.
Also as I said before, TB also allows you to create a update.zip so you can also flash them via recovery and not via Android.
You understand now??

You just confirmed your 'knacker' attitude. You did not read my posting and understand what I said. So, move on dude. TB can't be the best if you must use the PRO version. The non-pro version implies that you can do a BATCH restore and it does not allow a Batch restore. I got over it before I posted.

Hi all,
I have something unclear about clockworkmod, could someone please help?
I'm using hyperdroid gbx now and have a lot of settings, applications and data. If I want to use another say cm7 ROM, can I use clockworkmod to backup system and data, after install the Rom, I can then restore all my settings, application and data. Is this approach workable?
Please advise.

if you use sd-ext partition and if your apps ar in sd-ext, this may work sometimes: backup current rom, in new rom choose 'advaced restore' and choose restore sd-ext. but doesnt work always. i'd prefer titanium backup
So in what situations I should use backup/restore of ClockworkMod?
Thanks.
go to clockworldmode -> advance -> backup/restore rom

For example when updating to a newer version of the same rom,
1. Make a backup first with CWM. Instal the update.
2. Than wipe cache and Dalvik cache, then fix permissions and reboot.
If the new romversion doesn't work well enough, simply recover the backup in CWM

It's OK ^_^
Do you want to backup the data partition (which contains all user apps and data), then you can use recovery. But I'd recommend Titanium Backup for application and data within the Android OS.
EDIT: You'll need to install Titanium Backup again and have the backup data available to restore. If you decide to wipe data.

Press MENU and then select Batch. Then on the Backup sub-heading select the third one (which is 'Backup all user apps + system data). You'll then see all the apps are selected, so press 'Run batch operation'. Wait for a moment and then you're backed up.
If you want to restore, choose the one you want from the Restore sub-heading. If you want all your apps on a clean ROM, select 'Restore missing apps with data'

sorry bro for the long time for me to response from your message.
i have no pc or laptop to use here
anyway, it seems that i'd just wondering that when I'm here in our house, i could definitely download apps from the market, but considering the speed of our wifi connection is barely slow
but when i am in our school, wifi speed is okay but i can't download apps from the market.
is it in the wifi connection? or in the handset itself????
The school probably blocked such actions to be done.
Go to Settings/Apps/Manage Apps/ then press Menu then press Filters and press all then press market then press Clear Cache then press Uninstall Updates then your done

It says that there is access to Wifi but Android apps can't be install from the Android Market. I presume that there is still access to an internet connection therefore having access to other websites.
sometimes my market gets stuck as well. i just reboot the phone and everything works great
