Major EF02 improvements from EE03. - Epic 4G General

- Smoothness
- gps works
- radio works flawlessly (I'm using ec05 modem.)
- when unplugging aux cable while playing music w/ stock music player, it stops music.
- LED notification light is working now.
- Removal of Clear level 2 RAM so newbies don't break anything.
Netflix IS working!

Audio has been completely scratch/stutter free, even with voodoo audio on so far. That alone makes me love this update.

Might the bluetooth routing bugs (where all audio comes out of the ear speaker after disconnecting) be fixed too?
But THAT is wonderful news and what I was hoping for. I have had way too much trouble making my Epic a reliable media player which can multitask, and it's Touchwiz bugs taking most of the blame for the stuttering, in my experience. Has the stock music player changed at all? They did away with some features from the Eclair one which were actually better, which I didn't appreciate...

Thanks. Now can you or someone else test the bluetooth routing? (To test, play something through stereo BT, then switch to voice headset mode on another device by placing or taking a call, then see after you disconnect both devices if media audio is routed incorrectly through the phone ear speaker like it is in Froyo.)

Audio is routed correctly. I just played Pandora in my car over Bluetooth for about 30 min, placed a couple of calls over Bluetooth, and then placed a call when I got home. All worked great!

Was that with the Ec05 modem or the ef02 modem? I get fairly bad battery drain while at work. From the reports that I've heard, it sounds like the ef02 modem has greatly increased signal strength.

[Q] Phone earpiece popping on BT after a call

When I'm on Bluetooth and I get off the phone from a call, I can hear the earpiece making a pop sound continually and at seemingly random intervals. If I turn the earpiece off and shut down bluetooth on the phone it quits. I can turn BT back on and never hear it again until I get off a call. It does not do this when or after streaming audio from Pandora etc.
I'm on Viper ROM trinity 3.0.3
I have Odin'd the DK28 modem etc.
Basically, I'm on DK28 and I've had this dilemma w/ other ROMs so I'm wondering if it's a froyo problem or something else ?
I have been experiencing this for a while myself. Sometimes I am able to get it to stop by placing another phone call and switching it back to the handset. I've never been able to make it stop by shutting down BT, though... The only reliable way I've made it stop is a reboot.
I just had someone else test for me. He was running a modified EB13 and he doesn't have the issue. So, I'm just sitting back and waiting for Viper on EB13.

I've had this issue ever since dk28. I also have and issue with a2dp capable headsets losing sync or only syncing the phone profile. :-(

Yep, this was an issue I routed through the tech forums, months ago.. Got an investigation started, but no reply or resolution before I quit. Almost every epic i've ever had in my hands, did this.

Audio Control/Output problems

Here's whats happening on my Xoom.
1) Audio - even if the volume is 1 click from silent, it plays full blast
2) Headphone - even with headphone jack plugged in, it plays full blast from speaker
I've adjusted audio w/ the rockers as well as in the system settings and they never play correctly. It's either FULL blast or too quiet to hear anything until it's raised to the max.
This applies to games playing, videos, music, anything that uses the audio.
Anyone else have this problem? It's quite frustrating...

I've been having the same issue, but not universally. I can't recall specifically what app(s) didn't suffer from this, but I know there were 1 or 2. That said, as long as I haven't fabricated that memory, it would seem to indicate a software problem, not hardware.
My hope is that it will get fixed in one of the honeycomb updates.

You should clarify if you are using a bone stock XOOM or an unlocked/rooted/overclocked XOOM.
I do not have this problem, though I can say that All but the top 3 or 4 volume settings are inaudible. I spend my time at one or two steps below max since the max volume setting is majorly overdriven.
OK.problem fixed simply by restarting my Xoom lol..try it & see if it works and let us know please.

I did a factory data reset and it has solved the issue. However, I haven't added any of my media files yet to retest. Update on that to follow later on...
So after reloading some media, the sounds all messed up again. Bone stock Xoom...WTF
Even the headphone jack doesn't disable the rear speaker when inserted...
I'm tempted to return but I'm sure they'll fix this soon...HOPEFULLY!
edit: After the 3.0.1 update, all issues with audio have been fixed!

Low mic volume?

So I am sitting here trying to talk to family from my Epic to their landline. They can barely hear me. I have been getting reports lately more and more of people saying they cannot hear me.
So I grab my wifes stock epic and call them back. They state it is soooo much better that they can hear me now. I call back from mine and same exact low volume to them. I can hear them fine though.
I have Bonsai on my phone. I haven't tried flashing back to stock yet to see if that fixes it but I highly doubt it will. Is there any hidden setting to make my voice louder?
I am guessing I will go to the store and use my insurance to swap my phone.
Anyone else heard of this issue with the epic?
Odin back too stock and try it. If its better flash srf 1.1.1 with ee03 modem. Try that.
Or might just be a bug with your phone. Obviously if stock odin doesn't fix. Time too take it too sprint
I also had this problem with using sfr. I think that it had somthing to do with voodoo sound. Went back to stock with odin and reflashed sfr. I also changed some settings in the voodoo sound control app. Something that I did made it so that people can hear me without me yelling into the mic.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Ever since I moved to EE03, my mic has gone to crap when using the speaker. Same issue as in OP, very low volume and folks on the other end complain they can barely here me. Doesn't occur when I toggle the speaker off.
Clear Voodoo Control's data and don't mess with any settings except the ones in the first section. I had the same problem and doing this fixed it. Report back.
I'm pretty sure that its when you change the default setting in the Recording Presets menu but I'm not really sure. I don't really have any use for using my phone as a recorder so I just leave them alone anyways.
DUDE! check the mic hole and clean it
no lie it worked on mine
Change the Recording Preset in Voodoo Sound to Original. That should get you the same "volume" that others hear you at when using your wife's stock Epic.

Mic hole was clean. Odin to latest stock. Mic volume is back! Woot! I don't have to go to the sprint store. It was the Bonsai Rom causing the issue.

ee03
Hey guys personally i think its a bug with ee03. Ive tried the swiss cheese, ive tried marcusants both v5 and v6 and midnightroms ee03 rom. I started a thread in q&a with almost 100 people who saw it and 1 who commented. It has nothing to do with cleaning the mic or buying a new headset.(although bluetooth solved the problem for me, but i prefer my wired headset...)I was using the stock wired samsung headset that came with the phone. All my phone calls had a low mic volume. I odined back to ec05 and my mic volume went back to normal. The only time ive noticed the problem was when i was using ee03. If some devs could look into it, im sure alot of us would be grateful. I now know im not alone with that problem. Also ee03 doesnt come with voodoo sound. So there is nothing to adjust, as there is no voodoo sound...However as much as i miss the smooth transitions and battery life of ee03. i had to go back to ec05 and for those of you who odined back down, well you know what i mean when i say i miss ee03. But the biggest problem is one that cant be overlooked.....MIC VOLUME....

Rom to use for Evo as a media device only

I think I saw some discussion on this but I can't find it. Looking for a rom which has no phone features, so the Evo can be used purely on wifi for media playback, browsing etc. I am planning to use it to make calls via SIP/Google Voice on wifi only, and the primary use will be for media.
If the cell radios are disabled, battery life should go up.

I was excited for ubersonic and my decommissioned Evo. I flashed it and was disappointed, so then I removed it. The concept is good, the rom I didn't think much of.
One thing to remember is that Netflix doesn't work on ICS and that's something I'm using the device for still, lol.

I ordered myself a long HDMI cable for it too. The phone is actually going to be a dedicated Netflix and gaming device for my bedroom TV. Now with an AOSP rom on there I can finally use my bluetooth gamepad.
Any stable GB rom is good for using it for primarily media device with HDMI use. I carry a wifi hotspot device with me so I just run my devices off of that and keep them in airplane mode. I combo Google voice and talkatone for free calls and texting. I've also synced my wiimote to the EVO via Bluetooth so that I can just control it from my couch to play videos and games on my big screen.

I logged some serious time last night with the OG in airplane mode playing SNES with a bluetooth controller.

Well when you turn on Airplane mode it shuts down all radios (mobile network, wifi, and bluetooth) but then you can turn back on the ones you want (maybe not mobile network since that would totally defeat the purpose of Airplane mode)

I ended up taking the plunge with Ubersonic too. I tried Thundershock but found that Ubersonic was smoother and more responsive. Only downside is that I don't have that ability to make emergency calls (I want to keep the phone in my car).
However, other than that, Ubersonic is pretty trim and fast.

GE 4.3 Bluetooth impressions

For anyone wondering the sound quality for Bluetooth is 1000 times better on 4.3.
I tested this on 3 different stereo headsets with beats enabled and disabled. It is extremely noticeable how much HTC/Google improved Bluetooth quality on the latest update.
This makes me so glad as Bluetooth quality with 4.2.2 was extremely lacking.

Is it better than the bluetooth A2DP support in the sense version of 4.2? because I use that dialy in my car and have been waiting for them to improve the quality or mods to this effect since I got the phone. I would install 4.3 and give up zoe's just for this.
OK just got done doing a side by side comparison with a stock sense HTC one, and quality is about the same.
I did notice that enabling beats on a stock HTC one has more bass than my GE but not much.
On a clarity and volume level they are nearly identical.

I think I'll go ahead and test it myself and report my findings. I can connect the HTC car adapter to a pair of headphones, which should give me a good comparison environment. My new car also has built-in Bluetooth with support for A2DP, but since I've had the HTC car adapter for longer, I figured I'd be better off using the HTC adapter instead.
For what it's worth, Sense 5 using either 4.1.2 or 4.2.2 has the same sound quality since aptX is present on both, but I think CSR's "CD quality" claim about aptX might be bogus. I spend most of my time streaming Google Music at 320kbps (a.k.a. high quality) in the car, so if the Google ROM can stream ~320kbps over A2DP without the need for the proprietary aptX, I should be fine.
The Bluetooth on 4.3 is still using SBC instead of aptX, and there is a noticeable drop in audio quality when doing to 4.3.
However, it isn't really a deal-breaker for me. I'll probably end up just running an aux cable to my phone instead.
