Maybe I'm just a noob and this is how smartphone wifi works, but I can only pull 2mb/s download and 1mb/s upload speeds using wifi via my HTC Ozone.
I have a 30mbps fiberoptic line and a Dlink DIR-625 router.
IS this normal? My ping is also very high at 180ms.
If this is normal, how come it's SO much slower on mobile devices? It's barely any faster than my 3g speeds....
I also can only get 2mb/s download speed. Using a HTC snap.

I usually get 5Mbps download speeds and 2Mbps to 3Mbps upload on WiFi, I dont think it will go much faster then 8Mbps (its rated for 7.2Mbps). I usually only get 1Mbps on 3G.
There is a program called SmartTweaker that is supposed to help speed up WiFi (and other things) but I have never used it.
hi there,
i just bought g1 with tmobile in chicago,il so far i am getting just a little over 50KBites/sec download on 3g network. i am coming from htc fuze with att. anyone else see any problem in here??
Do you have full signal? If you brought the phone from T-Mobile you could always ask them what the problem is.
just find out something interesting ...
if you turn on airplane mode and then shut it off you data speed boooom to 235-175 KB/sec which is like a 3Mb/sec dsl speed at home !!! but after a little while it goes back to normal 50. looks like tmobile is throting the bandwidht
non resolved.
Hey People, this is a non resolved issue, the last note posted in not accurate. I have been noticing my internet speeds are about half of what they used to be. have been doing many FCC app speed tests and they are half of what I was getting about 2 months ago. Back then I was constantly clocking in 1.0 to 1.5 Mbps and now all over the board, but best one was at 843, and am regularly in the 400 to 200 range.
This has also been confirmed via the Speed Test app also, getting basically the same number.
Just for confirmation sake, when tethering, i would go to 2Wire.com and run speed check on my laptop, would get the same numbers as the two apps are getting, 1 to 1.5 mbps a couple of months ago, and now in the 400 to 200 range.
Currently have G1 and have been bouncing ROMs, but right now running cyan 5.0.7 test 3, radio is 2.22.23.2, recovery is RA's 1.6.2 and danger spl. Currently living in Denver, CO.
First, let be smart here and not bash the sites or apps used, but the consistancy of their usage and their results. It does reflect that my speeds are half of what they used to be.
Also another note, the download and upload speed are very close to being the same, within a range of 100 kbps. Now we all know that even on cell phones, that should not be the case.
And I start the posting after having tried the airplaine thing, tried to even reboot, went into adv. task manager, shut off all apps, and services and combinations of such with no significant gain in speeds.
Anyone still experienceing the slowed internet speed.
+1
I have been experiencing about the same thing pretty much following the same time frame. Currently living in the DC metro area so I should be experiencing HSPA speeds.
Its a problem with Cyanogen v5.0.7.
That's the reason I'm still using donut.
I live in Philly proper and have been "war driving" with my 4G turned on looking for dead spots/speed testing. In general it seems like coverage has improved.
Speeds are pretty much what Sprint advertised using Speedtest.net from the marketplace. 1 Bar is consistently 2500-3500, 2 bars is consistently 3250-4000 and max bars tests at 3500-5000. I have yet to hit 6000 on Speedtest.net....
...on the phone. Imagine my surprise to see sub 75ms pings and 8000 throughput when tethered! After redoing the test on Speedtest.net I looked for some real life examples. I downloaded some trial software from Microsoft, update my Ubuntu installation and fired up some torrents. While I never hit 8000, I did see some nice sustained torrent downloads that were near 7000. The crazy was that I accomplished this with only 1 or 2 bars, in doors. I plan on testing it outdoors in better conditions.
Has anyone well experienced similar results?
tethered results are almost always faster, but I have no idea why
Same results. Tethering reports faster. Any throttling you've noticed on netflix, hulu? I'm just doing usb and not paying the thirty xtra for sprint hot spot...things seem fast but netflix keeps randomly reporting that speed has dropped and is adjusting playback quality...which takes forever!

Ahhh, Philly.
In northern Indianapolis, I get 2000 max. Usually 300-800....
i too cant get results over 3 mbs using the speedtest app, where as tethering i get 4-6 mbs with bursts of 8-10 mbs.. ive read somewhere (cant remember where) that the phone is capped, but when using it as a modem or tethering then its not
Logic would dictate that the browser or flash lite plugin is the cause of the slowness

Yeah me to, but I live near the Franklin mills mall so it might bebthe same area as you
those "free ps3" ads are really tempting. i wonder whose email address i should use?

posted this in another thread cause someone didn't believe the speeds I was getting in the same town they were. As you can see there is No WiFi turned on.
Enjoy
its general knowledge that that testing website is just not accurate at all. try using some other speed tests for comparison, and you will see the difference.
Well, I'm sure you're on HSPA+ but 12Mbps is impossible.
Sooooo the last I checked the Nexus was limited to a 7.2 mbps MAX by hardware...
Thats pretty ****ed up, I was wondering why when I changed the DL size speed seemed to increase each time.
At Speakeasy and Speedtest I hit 3.5 but even that is much after then the 1 I get with Clear.

Clear is pretty lame here. It gets especially slow during 5-8pm
Ya heavily considering telling them to GTFO and just stick to tethering my Nexus
If you really want to test the phone's speed use the phone thetered to the PC and use dumeter to monitor 3 or 4 parallel downloads.
The maximum you can reach on a 7.2 network is 6.7 megabit.
If you have a 10 Mbit modem (like the N900 or the milestone) and your network is updated you can expect 8Mpbs as maximum.
If you can manage the 5 or 10GB soft cap (T-Mobile throttles after 10GB of usage on phones, but older plans are capped at 5GB (total internet is 5GB)) go for it. The only good thing Clear has going for themselves is unlimited usage for the time being.
I am getting 12mb/s on that site (mobilespeedtest.com) also. In the same location SpeedTest shows me 1,4mb/s which is more accurate

Hahaha my real speed is about 8Mbps, that site has calculated 550kbps.
Very accurate !!
mobilespeedtest is wroooong
I am on t mobile in nyc area. I recently did a speed test using the app, and my upload speed is higher then my down load speed. Is this always the case?
Down .5 mb
Up 1.6 mb
I did the test three times and all the time up was more then down.
Also are those 4g speed and are they good
Thanks

average since you are in 4G speeds some users get 6 mbs to 9mbs even more as well! and upload is an amazing rate btw..
I myself get 4mbs down and
900kbs upload but that is because I'm not on hspa+
go to a diff place. speeds vary from where you are.
U get 6mbs and ur not even on 4g

Damn, I would DIE for those speeds. I get 2.2 Mbps down and only a whopping 100 kbps up. I NEED UP MORE THAN I NEED DOWN!!!
I used to get similar speeds to OP at home. They recently upgraded "my" tower because now I'm getting 8+mbps down and 1.7+mbps up.
Patience, I guess
I always get higher upload vs download and not even close to the speeds I see on here. Generally we're talking 300-400k down and 800k up on a good day. I have repeated these tests on my MT3G and new MT4G. This is with the HSDPA indicator in the bar and HSDPA shown in phone settings. Lame.
At my house I get about 1.7, 1.8 up and anywhere from 2 to 6.5 down. The speeds tend to change seemingly at random, haven't really found any noticible patterns.

Is that "speedtest" speeds or actual downloads? My tests are all over the place (and low-ish: 2-3 mbps). Actual downloads go well over twice as fast.
My usual upload speeds are higher than my download speeds. They aren't super fast, but they are extremely consistent.
Downloads range from .75mbps to 1mbps
Uploads range from 1mbps to 1.5 mbps
Wish i could get some faster speeds in HSPA+ coverage with full bars, but the T-mobile rep admitted to me that the HSPA+ rollout in my area is very fresh and not really official, covering a small area of the city, so I can't expect too much at this time.
