[NEED HELP] with flashing firmware - GT540 Optimus General

My friend gave me yesterday this phone and said that he blocked his phone because he had forgotten screen lock´s pattern. He has no gmail account and he wasn´t using market, email or similar stuff. Now the phone is stucked on screen where you should put your gmail account if you want to unlock it again. So I think that´s only way how to do it is to flash new firmware and I don´t know how.

Why not force boot to recovery and wipe or restore?
Sent from my GT540 using XDA App

do you mean CW recovery? no there is no recovery

I guessing that it is stock?
Ok so what you going to do is this.
A HARD reset.
This will erase Everything thats on the phone. So that means no market apps or accounts. It will be completly stock
Directions:
Turn on your phone, then when at lock screen or other, press this combination
Press Volume up + Home + Search key for 5secs

[Q] New Blade not entering bootloader + Lost Phone mayhem

Hi. I have a Blade here where the kids have installed the lost phone app from market and basically locked the phone with a random password. Oh well. That stuff happens.
Plan was basically simple:
Install clockwork recovery
wipe userdata
no more Lost Phone app
All the guides for this phone says volume up(+) and power on after you have taken out the battery, gets it in bootloadermode for fastboot to do its magic.
Then I hit a snag... This is a brand new Blade bought in Norway and I can't get this to work. Read something about on Modaco that new Blades from february '11 don't work with that key combo.
Any other advice to get that hellish Lost Phone app off the phone?
EDIT: Persistance pays off. You are able to make a keypress every once in a while when you press the back button. Doing so I was able to allow unsigned apps, turn on USB debug mode, copy files to the SD card, install zroot to do a temproot. Install recoverymanager and finally clockwork recovery. Turned off the phone and with volume down + power booted into Clockwork. Wiped userdata and cache. Home free!

Unable to reset to factory settings, format memory, flash ROM, etc.

Hi,
My I9100 behaves quite strange.
I am unable to perform factory reset (using code from keypad or command from settings menu) - the phone reboots, goes into recovery mode where I can select wipe data/cache. Doing so has no effect on my phone, after another reboot the I9100 restarts in the same state as before factory reset.
The other thing is that I am unable to format interal memory. After using command from settings menu it says that memory is disconnected, formated, and after that all data (pics, mp3s, etc) are still available.
Also I am unable to flash ROM with any stock (tried KE4 and KE7) or aftermarket (Lightening) software. I tried Odin with and without PIT/Re-partition, also with no effect. The phone boots into previous state nevertheless confirmation in Odin that flashing completed successfully.
And the most aggravating thing is that after I reboot phone I am loosing all the recent data. The phone is booting in the state from before couple of days, with no recent messages etc. Thanks to Google account sync, the mail, calendar and so on re-sync properly, but it is no good solution since pictures, todos etc are gone after reboot.
I believe the thing started to occur after unsuccessful update to Twitter. Tried to do Market cache wipe (as suggested for similar cases to I9000 users), but also to no effect.
Have you any suggestion what else can I do?

Stuck in boot loop - No Recovery mode but can flash using download mode
I am stuck in bootloop. I cant access recovery using Vol Up + Home + Power but I can access Download mode and flash roms using ODIN. But no use. Everytime its stuck in boot loop and either the initial boot logo flashes or it stays stuck at the boot logo. Can please someone help. I read all the comments and lot of people having problem being able to get into Download mode but not in Recovery Mode. I would appreciate if someone can post a detailed response as to how to get rid of this issue.

Wipe data and cache from recovery then flash a rom, you will lose everything not backed up
There is a guide about howto fix this, search first next time

im sure there is another thread around he with 2 people in it that had the same problem as you, flashing via odin or cwm and then still ending up with the same firmware as pre flash.
i'll see if i can spot it and post it here, i dont know if they got it sorted or not tho.

Mr. veyka perhaps i didn;t drive my point home. Recovery mode is inaccessible. I cant wipe unless i get into recovery. its simple logic. i need to be able to access recovery before i can wipe

That is the thread that i had read which had the same problem as you, i havent read it all but the last few pages tend to lean towards that flash lock go ticked when flashing a ROM via odin.

Hey bud,
If you can get in to download mode then it should be ok, id try 2 things.
Go over to the the original android dev section and grab the CF kernel that was for the firmware installed, boot in to download and flash it via pda in odin, then try recovery again.
If that doesnt work, then download a full firmware from samfirmware and flash the main 3 files (Modem/CSC/Phone) and that should set your phone back to retail fresh.
ofc another reason could be your volume up button is broken

Oh, sorry, missed that, my bad
As said, flash cf root and see if that helps, if not check that your volume up key works within the os, if not flash to stock, and reset flash counter with a jig and send in for repairs.
If it does, cf root comes with an app called cwm manager that will allow you to reboot into recovery that way.

my volume up button works> the reason being you need to press volume up to get into download mode after the Vol down + home + power combo.
There are other people who have had this issue of recovery not available.

Is my desire Z dead?

Hello!
I have a problem that does not look good ... I mean:
This to happen without touching the phone, was on the table and suddenly I've gone to look for my girlfriend warned that received no Whatsapps. I've looked and was half hanged, and as I could not restart, I had to remove the battery.
Well the problem is switched on, after the white screen "HTC" screen stays black again (off) and do nothing and turn it back on again is necessary to remove the battery.
I thought ... well, I will restore from the recovery, for nothing, by accessing the white menu (power button + vol-), choose the recovery and I do the same ... try to enter the recovery but does not enter. ..
Relief! What I can do??
regards
More details pls. What recovery do you use? What does it say when you try to enter recovery?

My recovery is the CWM but I don't remember what version it is...I think it's the last one (5.0.2).
The problem is that the phone can't start correctly, it remains at the "htc" in green homescreen and that's all.
If I try to enter at the recovery, it does the same think and If I try to reset factory defaults does the same also.
I've tried to install the PC10IMG.zip rom (that I've used to root the phone) and it install it correctly but when it finish continue doing the same as before...
Thanks for your coop!
Best regards
So you can enter bootloader? (Power & volume - ) but from here you cant go to recovery? Do you have eng. Hboot?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Hello!
Yes...I can enter at the bootloader and I can also try to enter at recovery mode, but it cant finally enter...
I don't have Hboot (I think, because I don't know what it is) I rooted the phone long time ago and only install the CWM and it has the cyanogen mod rom...
Thanks
With eng hboot (0.84.2000 - i think) you could try to push a different recovery on your phone, if the recovery is the problem... Another thing you could do is press power + volume up and see if you can enter recovery this way...
There is also a irc channel where devs will help you... But i dont know the name right now
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Your problem is clockwork mod recovery.... unfortunately the latest releases cause it to not be able to boot into it. Download and push 4ext recovery and it should be the end of your woes
Edit: The irc channel you're looking for is #g2root on freenode. They'll help, but if you push the recovery and flash a new rom you should be fine.

[Q] how to reset a locked phone

need your help guys
My mates just got a galaxy s and hes locked the phone with the pattern unlock screen, theres no google account registered to the phone because its brand new so there is no other option than to keep trying with the pattern unlock!
Is there a way to factory reset the phone without flashing a new rom whilst in this situation?
If not, where can i find the correct stock rom (not interested in upgrading yet) and the correct version of odin?
Thanks Craig
you can boot it into recovery when you shut down the phone and then hold volume up, home and power until the samsung galaxy s i9000 screen appears. then release the buttons, you can navigate in the menu with the volume keys and confirm with home.

[Q] How to get into Recovery Menu with 4.2.2

Hey guys,
i having trouble to get the recovery MENU open in Recovery Mode.
I shutdown the nexus, press power and both volume buttons -> fastboot, then go "into recovery".
But now i only get the green android with a "Kein Befehl" (means "No Command" oder something like that.)
I cant get the menu show up (the blue you can factory reset or clean cache, reboot etc).
After some trying with the buttons, the nexus reboot itself again normally.
Whats wrong? Did Google change here something?
It's usually volume up and power to get the menu but seeing as I'm using CWM I can't remember - not used the stock recovery in years!
It's still power then quickly tap volume up to access the menu

use this, and choose boot into recovery... easiest way, at least if direct way from bootloader doesn't work...
maybe u should reflash your recovery if the direct way isn't working
Maybe you haven't installed correctly the recovery..
Do a factory reset and then try again..
I had the same problem and I solved with this steps..
