Hi all
I have a Samsung Galaxy mini (S5570L) and I'm trying to edit Phone.apk, I wanna replace the unknown caller picture for the stock android picture, I already managed to do that but I have 2 questions:
1) When I try to replace Phone.apk with the one I edited the phone starts vibrating uncontrollably and I can't seem to be able to do pretty much anything, is there any special treatment when editing system APKs??
2) The stock Samsung ROM is odexed so I know editing and replacing the APK isn't as simple as it sounds, what else do I need to do after zipping the APK in APK Manager??

P.S.: This is a wild idea but is there a way to change the TouchWiz Phone.apk for the stock Froyo Phone.apk??

To 2.
It causes issues if u have some odexed and one deodexed apk so u should deodex all apks.
1. Do a logcat to find out what's wrong .
Did u push the file via adb?
And u should sign the apk ...

Thanx man, turns out I needed to deodex the APK before editing (which I didn't know).
I've got another question, since I'm using a stock Samsung ROM should I deodex all the system and framework apps?? 'Cause that sounds like a huge amount of work

Try dsixdas kitchen which can deodexe all apks of ur Rom.deodexing makes the Rom faster.

I know the technical difference b/w ODex-ed and DeODex-ed
I have an odexed ROM
I simply want some applications (apks) from my Previous ROM, which was deodexed
When I PUT .apk files from My Previous ROMs ZIP to my Device's system/app - I get FC
When I restore apps like Go Launcher Ex, from Titanium Backup, I still get FC for that

As I have seen that odexed ROM are so incredibly smooth in almost every aspect

the anserw is simle if your previous firmware was deodexed:
Youraplicationname.odex is missing

you must either have all files in pairs apk + odex (thats odex)
or apk only (thats deodexed)
when looking at /system/framework/
that would be jar + odex (odex) or jar only (deodexed)

if you now have aapk+odex
you have to copy new apk and odex

I'm pretty sure I tried this some time ago and found it will not work. The MyFiles.apk is strictly linked to the ROM you are using, something to do with the framework, so you cannot use one on another ROM version.
As for other apk's, if the file you want to use is deodexed, you simply delete the new apk and odex file and put the old one in its place although be warned, it may cause instability on your ROM if you do this with system apk files

The irony is most of th times, its th system apks tht have dex files
If its not a system apk, I wud rather download th latest 4m market

I edited the layout of default fm app which works on dzo's ics, i think it's now much acceptable
first i should say, i don't know anything about programming, so, i will work on ui only.
How should we install it?

Thanks, but it doesn't install here either. It first complained about different signature from the app already installed. I uninstalled the old one, but yours still failed to install, with no error message.

Maybe it isn't signed.
I've signed it myself, please try to install it now. (Remove the old one first).
If it doesn't work, try to put it on /system/app and set the right permissions (644, or rw-r--r--)

hi mrasquinho,
i forgot to say, i used apkedit for decompile and compile apk and first time and i've got different signature alert. i removed original fm.apk and then i installed correctly.
i think the problem is different signs.
and also, i should to say, if i remember right, this fm app works only with dzo's ics and 3.x kernel.

i used this time apk multi tool and i got the same problems again.
first i deleted original fm.apk from system/app folder, then i tried to install new fm.apk. i couldn't install new app. then installed again original.fm.app then tried to install new app. i got error message about signs. then removed original and then i succeded, i installed new app.
it's weird, i don't know why i can't install at first attemp.
but now it works.
if someone want to try , can download.
For me neither snc-tr or mrasquinho app works. But strange thing happened when I reinstalled stock FM.apk, I got another icon in launcher - FM transmiter. Didin't test it but that icon disappeared after reboot

I got it to install after
1.deleting /system/app/FM.apk
2.rebooting
3.installing OriginalFM.apk
4.uninstalling OriginalFM.apk (through Settings)
5.Install SignedFM.apk (+reboot)
It is indeed much better than stock app.
Just a suggestion: could you replace the app's icon with a better one? (for example the one from CMFM or Huawei FM app from this thread:

I have attached a modded FM.apk that replaces the launcher icon and the status bar Icon with the one's from CM's fm app.
(Make sure if you are replacing another apk to rename this one to FM.apk to overwrite the old one)
All credits for this mod should go to snc-tr.

Since fm is working nobody is in a hurry.
After installing the OTA 4 of the jellyblast custom rom the calculater app has disappeared and i can't even install google play services which i need for certain apps...
Please help me...

the problem with installing Google play services is that when the download is done it starts installing but later is says can't install as tow apps have same name some thing like that.....

Did you install ota 1 2 & 3 first if not follow these steps
Wipe data
Mount system
Install jb v3
Mount system
Install ota 1 2 3 & 4 in number order (mount system between flashes)
Opional
Install hells fusion #63 for best results
if you want playstore back, get an apk of playstore, put it in system/app (using Root Explorer), set permissions to r-w-r. done.:beer:

or u can just install via system app replacer which comes preinstalled with ota2
or just install ota 2.3,4
1 is not needed
g-play and calci should get installed automatically

You cannot install google play services with jb v3 ota 4
You need to install jb v3 with no ota installed then install otas & it may install
You do not need Google play services for YouTube
For latest YouTube just push back button when it asks you to install
If you require sign into YouTube uninstall YouTube & install an old version
So you mean I shall install the rom again with no otas installed right....
But would it work after installing otas...

Try it only one way to find out
Do a back up first so if it it still doesn't install with no ota just flash backup & you're back to where you were
Hi friend
The play service app required for youtube i think is impossible to install on galaxy y i have tried to install it on may roms but it showed the same problems as yours,
I downloaded it apk and tried to install then it showed up app not installed
I also have tried to push the app to system folder by root explorer but that methods
Also didn't work and the last mtehod i tried was to make a flashable zip of that app but that also failed to install it on our device
I think google has made the app avalibale on to ics devices

. when i tried to install google play services from the builtin apk installer ... cant installed .. but when i tried installed using system app installer i.e from the OTAs this shows app installed correctly... but still quick office and other apps are asking to install google play services

Hi, i have a XSP of course...and now im on 4.3 (.201), but even in 4.1.2. (.254, .257) i have redraw of icons and in launcher everytime i touch the home button...its boring to see that because duration is about 2 seconds to put all fine in screen.
Its still always happening to me and i want to know how solution i have to stop this crap to do that??
My rom is deodexed and have root and cwm installed!

Install Xposed module named APP SETTINGS, select the Home launcher..enable options and tick "resident" then save your settings. Now press home button if there are changes[emoji6]

I just flashed thunderbolt Cwm flashable zip and my phone is flying in every sense. I recommend you to check it out in android development and hacking section of xda.

I have tested the xposed app "moded" to work on 4.3 but i have FC when go to download part. I dont know why, the guy who post the xposed app "moded" says it works fine in 4.3 but for me doesnt work, i have pasted in system directory with rw-r-r permissions and nothing anyway.
i realy want to have xposed not only because the moldure you say but becuse others like fm without antenna and the hack connectivity...i already have it when i have on 4.1.2. but in 4.3. dosnt work.

im not sure if the thunderbolt will work on my device because is locked bootloader, and i read in the thunderbolt post it modifies "something else" around the kernel...

Yup. I just did that. No redraws even after asphalt8! Many multitasking mods+ also.

Have to read a little bit though.. might not get it right the first time. Always keep cwm backups if gonna try.
If you r rooted then download xpose installer and a module in it named app setting in that app setting select xperia home and tick on the option resident.

Xposed doesnt work for me..always have FC when go to download section...it installed the framework but moldures doesnt install because get FC everytime!
Any section of the forum who have the app setting to download directly and put them in my smartphone to install?
