Hi, have anyone done a reformat of the phone + sd card?
I did it and had to re-install the games but most annoying of all is after downloading "Crash Bandicoot" the game stuck in the "Downloads" program and required some "files" to complete download.
Although I was still able to install the game without some "files" complete, the game wasn't able to maximise the usage of the screen.
Any advise?

I have formatted my phone and sd card. I just left my wifi on and let the games download the required files that they needed no problems. Try rebooting the phone then with wifi on open crash and let it do its business.
Also if you mean by "maximise the usage of the screen" that its not in full screen. While in the game click the settings button under the d-pad then scroll down to screen mode then click on full screen.
I have done so also because my SD card was broke.
It had to download the missing files. I have changed the screen size with no problems.
Aight.. Will try. Thanks

Hi,
What happened
Yesterday when I had more time I started installing some applications on my HTC Touch HD.
I installed:
1).NET Framework 3.5
2) Advanced Configuration
3) Total Commander
4) Gyrator 2
I had already installed IGO 8 a few months ago.
After installing Advanced configuration I tested the IGO and it was working, I had no problem.
However after I installed Gyrator 2 and with Gyrator 2 on I tried to start Igo8, the IGO8 didn't want to start. After further attempts and investigation I came to the conclusion that the SD Card is corrupted.
Symptoms of the SD Card(original one that came in the box with the device):
1)While reading it from PC only the root directory of the card is visible with all the folders inside but I can access only one folder out of 15. for the others I get an error, cannot read from the device...
2) From the HTC touch HD I can even enter all the folders but while accessing some files, not all of them, I get errors saying that the files could not be opened.
3) I had to do many restarts so only two times the first screen that you see after you power-on the device is the "Smart mobility" and then after a few seconds you get the details of the ROM and two other rows in the bottom right corner. So for two times the "Smart mobility was not centered" as well as the bottom right corrner data they were not at their position. However now after 5-10 more power-on power-off manipulation the first screen seems to be ok.
Possible causes as I see it are two:
1) Gyrator 2 and IGO8 do not lik eache other very much, and some how when IGO8 started maybe the orientation of the screen just changed from portrait to landscape. It is just a theory, as I'm not an expert I cannot say if it's correct or not.
2) After installing the Gyrator2 I have somehow unplugged the USB cable while the computer might still have had a connection to the PC. That's ulikelley because I allways do the "Remove USB device" before unplugging, but I did it so many times that I do not remember exactly that time. However I trust my instincts even though I cannot exclude the possibility of an error.
The cause 2) might be realated as well with the usual problem of choosing the action needed when you connect he HTC Touh HD trough the USB cable. It happened many times that an option is preselected(read the Storage card) but I want to actually synchronise the device with ActiveSync, so initially the PC opens the SD card as an external drive and then after I click on the phone to choose the ActiveSync connection it closes the external drive and makes the connection.
Is there a better way to choose between the modes of connectivity to PC, taking into account that when you want to install some software on the device you have to either copy the file on the device itself and start it there or install it on the PC and use ActiveSync to install it as well on the device.
My main question is related with the helthcheck of my HTC Touch HD.
a) Is there a risk that the internal built in flash storage of the device is corrputed as well? I have checked all the files almost with no problems of accessing any of them. It seems ok to me. The only thing that worries me a bit is the problem with the splash screen as I explained it under possible cause 2) which now doesn't seem to appear anymore.
b) is there any other part that I should verify to make sure that my device is ok.
c) Less important, if you could help me find out what happened to make sure that I won'trepeat it again and break the next SD Card.
d) Can I recover/repair the SD Card itself, the data that I had on were not very important I have them on my PC in proportion of 90%. I downloaded some tool from SanDisk called usb-test-tool.exe but it fails to see the card(I think the tool is not the right one), or I shouldn't even bother because there is a risk of having problems afterwards.
Most probably I'll have to buy another SDMicroCard I'll try to buy the same brand maybe for 16GB, I do not know the prices yet.
Sorry for the long pot, but I wanted to give allt he details.
Thanks for your support!
And now most probably I'll have to uninstall the applications that were installed on the SDCard, I hope it will work out and there will be no left-overs in registries or on the filesystem.

well. Mine got bricked too yesterday. it was a 16GB sd-card. Only my phone can access it and the data is gone. Data was firts messed up (like chaotic named folders and files) and then disappeared. I can create new folders and files there but it is full of lost chains and clusters (found by mobile apps) and reports the same free space as before (40%) but there are no content visible. When I connect it to laptop either as an disk drive from mobile or directly with sd-adapter I get high cpu usage of interrupts and a frozen usb managment and need to restart.

Same happened to me with my 16gb Sandisk card.
Card reader said is was write protected and could not format using SDFormatter.
Solution after a search found on the Raphael forum was to download http://www.cnetx.com/format/download.asp and install to main memory.
Success !
Then I could read it and formatted again with SDFormatter
Hope this helps

Hello,
Few hours ago, I managed to fix the grey "Move to SD" problem in froyo by using the setInstallLocation 2 solution, after doing that, I moved all my applications to the SD card. Then I did a wipe factory reset to my device.
When turning on the phone, the SD card apps were gone, but they are still in my SD card "secure" folder, files with .asec extension.
They don't exist in my phone, but when turning on the usb storage, i can see them in my SD card.
Has this happened to anyone?? ty very much/1
I don't have much experience with this option, but I would say that a wipe is a wipe and the associated file on the sdcard is only a link to the put the application on the sdcard not the full application.
At best it would keep the option when you re-download that application from the market.
If so, where the real application is? what's the point of "moving the SD" if the application is still stored on the phone?
And it can't be a link because of the size of the files, it's really near the size of the application. I'm convinced it is the application, but wondering why I can't use or find them.
it's pissing me off, i had plenty of games and useful apps
yes, the "registry" of installed apps is gone with the wipe, so android does not know how to use those files on the sd card. You will have to nandroid/titanium restore or reinstall.
Aww.. lucky i got the saved games on the sd...
I got an unrelated question:
I found that the apn settings are saved under the file apns-conf.xml.
I downloaded the file with the settings i need, pushed it to system/etc and still i don't get the apn settings. tried rebooting the phone, and wonders why i still don't get the apns?
If you have a backup, restore it, move all your apps back to phone, then wipe, flash the new rom and move them back to SD.
All problems solved, ty
After using MN 4.5.6, you can reinstall the Amazon Appstore, but you'll have to redownload your apps. Most of them should work fine and they are tied to your account. But the Angry Birds games are a royal pain. I like them being "part of" the store so they get updates and such (maybe I'm dumb, but seems this is the only way to get updates on these). So, here is how to get them installed (Seasons and Rio, ad-free were free at one point, and I want those back).
First, you gotta have the SD card in or they won't download. So put the SD card and install one of the Angry Birds games.
Then when it pops up, choose 'Package Installer' (I think 'App Installer' is the B&N version and I don't want to mess with that for now).
You'll get the standard install screen, but after attempting to install, you'll get 'Application not installed' and the Done button. Go ahead and touch Done.
Now connect using ADB and go to the shell and go to /sdcard/Android/data/com.amazon.venezia/cache and look for the latest file there. That will be your Angry birds download. It will look something like 'vnz31051.apk'.
Now that you know the file, exit the shell and do a pull:
adb pull /sdcard/Android/data/com.amazon.venezia/cache/vnz31051.apk.
Once you've got the file, take out your sdcard (or you will get an "[INSTALL_FAILED_CONTAINER_ERROR]").
Now, install it via adb:
adb install vnz31051.apk
You should get a success and you can put your SD card back in.
If you go back to the Amazon Appstore and go to 'My Apps' and then 'All', you'll see your Angry Birds games listed as installed now.
Now, you won't get your progress/data here - it's gone unless you did a Titanium Backup. What I don't know (anyone care to chime in?) is if you did one and you restore it, will it still show up in the Amazon Appstore? I have one, but decided to start clean anyway (although you can use that and restore only the data, which I did do).
Figured I hadn't really seen a step-by-step on this and someone might be pulling their hair out...
Just a little update to this...
After using this, the Angry Birds Rio update from the Amazon Appstore installed perfect. Showed up with an update available, downloaded and installed, no fiddling with the sd card or anything.
Not sure if anyone else ever needed/used this, but figured I'd share just in case...
For those that do not like to fiddle with ADB, you can easily use Root explorer to copy the APK to the device from the SDCard and execute the APK and it will install fine that way as well.

Where on the device should I copy it to?
No need to fiddle with either adb or Root Explorer.
Download with the SD card inserted as written in the OP.
Before hitting the install button after starting Package Manager pop out the SD card,
then tap install and it will install.
Pop the SD card back in after the install finishes.
Note that this is fixed in an alternative kernel. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1084758

Thanks. but that did not work. However I did figure it out. I just needed to drop the installers into "My Downloads" and then remove the SD card and then run the installer.
Hey Matt. This seems to be the common fix to this issue. The problem I am having is moving the apk file from the SD card to the internal memory, then accessing it to install. I am using AndroXplorer, which only seems to give me access to the SD card and not internal memory. My question is, how did you move the apk to internal memory, and how did you access the internal memory to run the apk file? Thanks!
Nevermind, AndroXPlorer was the issue. I found another app that let me jump into the internal memory. From there I followed your instructions, and it worked fine. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
hello all! this is my first post here but i have been a long time fan of this webstie.. I wanted to ask if someone knew or can help me with my problem.. So every time i reboot my phone all the apps that are stored on my sd card don't show up in the folders i created in my home screen. (for example)... in my games folder in my home screen every time i reboot my phone the only games that reamin in the folder are the ones that are stored in the internal memory but not the sd card...same thing goes for all my other folders... so everytime i reboot i have to move all the apps back to their folders... anyone know that is causing this? by the way i'm not using any rooted apps like link2sd to move my apps to the sd card..just using the regular way with the new update! thanks for all your help! cheeerss
I can't copy or move (but I can delete or rename) files and folders on / from the SD card (SanDisk 8GB) of my unrooted Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime (SM-G531F) with Android 5.1.1. I still can create, rename or delete files and folders.
I tried with My files and ES File Explorer, then I formatted the card in phone and with SD Formatter.
With my PC I can copy or move files or folders on / from the SD card.
I changed the SD card with one similar from my Asus TF-101 tablet and the same phone problems occur, but the phone SD card works normally in tablet!
Many thanks in advance!

Please don't reset your whole phone, it won't solve the problem anyways.
With the advent of 5.1.1 Google added a new Media Security Protocol. The affect is that any app that doesn't have root securities can not move or copy files between Int and Ext storage, except those they generate.
The good news is that I know of a FREE file manager that can get around the problem by hooking into Androids Storage Access Framework.
One small problem is that the setting turns itself off frequently, so you have to go back in and turn it back on.
The better news is that it's footprint is only a little bit bigger than 'My Files' and it has a massive amount of capabilities and settings which are 100% configurable.
Enough of the suspense, "Ghost Commander"
Good luck, it's not for the weak of mind.
P.S. To get to the switch;
Top right three dot menu
Location
Home
Storage Access Framework
and search out the Mother directory of your Ext card, then select.

I know this is late but i just had this problem on my note 5.
Try installing / SandiskMemoryZone.Apk should let you move pics and files then.
