Really want a 4.3+ inch screen (preferably 5incher) - Streak 5 General

My Samsung Vibrant is nice and all, but I want more real estate. Opus is looking like it will be a while and no real idea if it will be available on Tmobile.
So what phones are out there? I figured the Streak guys would know all about 4.3+ phones. I am sadly even keeping an eye on the Coolpad 9930 :<
I may try and track down a Streak AWS, but that seems like a hefty premium when newer devices are out.
Heres my shortlist:
AWS Streak
Coolpad 9930
Opus One (Dreaming....)
Any suggestions that I am missing?

I use my unlocked streak on T mobile. I can only get edge data, but it honestly isn't that bad. i get almost the same speeds my buddies are getting on AT&T 3g. I thought about selling mine and buying an AWS version. But between what people want for them, and mine being cherry red, I'll just keep it. I like the red. As far as other phones, T Mobile is getting a version of the infuse in september called the Hercules, I believe. It'll be a 4.5 inch screen. The infuse is only AT&T bands from what I remember. We may all be on AT&T bands soon anyway, lol. So might want to consider that as well. But let's hope not...

I have considered just grabbing edge signal, but does this not mean areas that are 3G only just lose out on data? Or does it send both signals?
The merger is a possibility, but I m not really holding my breath on that one...if I can find an AWS for $400 I will prolly just do that. All in all the real estate is just phenominal and I want one really bad!
Downgrading cameras, 3g, and screen quality might just be to much though.

I've been using 4.3 screen in the past but after changing to the Dell Streak 5, I must say this is the best choice I've made so far. The screen is an absolute beauty for browsing internet and checking emails as well as viewing photos/videos.
Now, anything lower than a 5-4.8 screen would be tough to used really. In my view, the Acer Iconia Smart would be my next phone as it boosts some better specs than the Streak.

Yea, I don't know why a 4.5 inch screen looks so small to me now.
Someone has got to make another 5 incher...

I've been a loyal user of HTC phones in the past before coming to the Streak but Dell's lack of update/support for the Dell Streak is definitely a let down. I don't think I will go for another Dell phone unless they release something out of the ordinary with awesome specs........

I am also on the hunt for a new 4.8"+ phone. Non dell however. I checked out the iconia smart. Not sure I like the aspect ratio. Kind of an odd shape. Seems like it wouldn't feel any larger with that form factor but I guess I'd have to play with one to really tell. Someone has to make 4.8"+ android phone. The streak has really spoiled me.

That has been my ONLY gripe with the Streak. LACK of support from Dell. At&t, well, I've been with at&t through all the name changes, which shows how far back I go. I'm come to EXPECT no support from at&t. If you want an update, you pretty much have to get it from the hardware vendor, or here. At&t won't update anything but the iPhone, since Apple pretty much controls that.
I love the streak, but unless Dell starts supporting the device, I'm jumping to the Samsung S2, or a 4.5" HTC this winter.

Frankly, I would think twice before purchasing myself an htc phone this year - my previous experience with the HD2/Desire HD has not been that great due to the fact that the volume was really on the low side - lower than the D.Streak. I had never run through such troubles with Nokia/Motorola/S.Ericsson. The caller's voice was also difficult to hear on both in crowded areas. Compared to a Nokia and Sony Ericsson speaker, HTC loses badly here!!
I think each company's phone has its ups and downs - it's only a matter of compromise made by the buyer to support the newest phone I guess. But still I like HTC phones...if only they could made louder speakers and with a larger screen.

My HTC's have all had great speakers. In fact, my last phone - the Tilt 2 (Rhodium/Touch Pro 2), had the best yet. And you can throw some serious abuse @ them!

Definitely I own a TP2 and even without the sound hack, the volume is bright and clear --> and with the volume hack, this phone is definitely rocking!! The problem applies to later HTC phones such as HD2 and Desire HD. Seems HTC restricted the volume level to these phones.

I really hope dell do a follow up to the streak, I cant go to a screen smaller than 5" after using the streak.
There has been no news on opus1 since the end of 2010, it would be a shame if theres no more 5" android phones

You sir are quite correct! The ONLY HTC I've had that has had very loud volume has the HTC HD2, was MEGA loud & clear, even half way...
HTC Desire & HTC Desire HD has **** sound, even when maxed out you could barely hear it.
They were ok for music but for video's/youtube you could barely hear it..
most phones however have **** sound, my old Samsung Galaxy even had crappy sound, I do not know why manufacturers make big & expensive phones only their unable to produce quality speakers, why not put quality stereo speakers like ancient Nokia's?
Most nokia's though weak and way underpowered at least have loud stereo speakers...
Sound improvement/loudness is where 90% of phone manufacturers need to improve on.

I pulled the trigger and bought one off craigslist for $250. Unfortunately it is an ATT version. I will just try to use wifi and edge. If it seems to be a hassle I will sell it and buy the one from Cinn. Bell.

[Q] Buyers remorse?

Ok well bgr is reporting Dell will release it's streak 7 this coming month. So bow I'm wondering if I should cancel or keep my order for the streak 5 I jis bought. Especially since according to shipping I won't get till the 18th of January anyways. What do you guys think? Anyone else who just bought a streak feel the same way? Or should I just suck it up an know I'll be happy with my streak 5.
The streak is simply the best phone I have ever had and believe me, if there was anything else better I would have one. Even after having it for a few months now I'm still very happy with it. I bought myself and otterbox case and that transformed it from being a fragile device to something I worry much less about dropping. I also use launcher pro because the dell home launcher is not so great IMO.
Don't buy the 7"
;-)

I wouldn't trade my 5 inch streak in for any 7 in one. Reduces its mobility. I use the streak as my primary phone so I need the smaller form factor.

The solution to your quandary is fairly simple:
Run in to your nearest Best Buy or some other electronics store, shoot even most of the carriers are stocking the Galaxy Tab at this point, pick up one of the 7" tablets, and hold it to your head as if you were talking on a phone call. Ask the person closest to you if you look silly (or use the word "stupid" if you like)...base your decision on their answer.
just kidding. Stick with the 5" model. You can do everything you will want to do on the 5" screen and still utilize it as a phone, eliminating the need for a second device--I have pretty much stopped using my laptop, too.
All I need. In my pocket.

I absolutely love my phone. The first day I was having doubts thinking "OMG, It's HUGE" but then after 3 days of use, I needed to use something on my iphone and I went back to it and I couldn't... I just couldn't stand such a small screen. Android 2.2 on the streak is just awesome, I love the OS. I have only had one lock up, and since then, everything has been as smooth as silk. Great phone. I wouldn't go back on it! Right now I'm thinking about accessories.
There will be some times in your life when an extra 2 inches would make you very popular but you'll find that the ability to keep it in your back pocket wins every time...
7" is too much unless you will be using it strickly as a tablet, the 5" is a perfect phone. Come to think of it, will the 7" have phone capabilites?
Furthermore if Dell is said to be releasing the 7" next month it HONESTLY will not be released until the end of the summer as the nitemare of the 5" slowly starts to come to mind all over again...
Something else to consider besides the size of the device is the fact that everything I have seen points to the fact that the 7" Streak will be released for Tmobile...I'm not saying that is a negative, just that it is something to consider.
Does Tmo work well where you live/work? I'm assuming the draw to this device is Tmo's claims to have the "fastest 4g network", which we all know is crap (but that's another thread). Yes, the device can be unlocked, but then the speed will be altered...
Bottom line, to answer the original question, I have no buyer's remorse with my 5" Streak, my Captivate with the 2.2 Axura rom is just sitting on my desk, and my wife inherited my iPhone 3GS. And, sometimes she even asks to borrow my phone to get online, cuz the screen is so much bigger than hers...
If I were going to get a 7", I'd just go ahead and get a 10" tablet.
The 5" sits well on my belt, pocket. I use BT, so holding it to my head isn't
an issue.

I've been saying this from the day I bought my Streak. I wanted portability. The Streak is perfect in that regard.

i cant imagine a phone id like more yet than my streak. when it came down to getting a new phone, i really wanted something with a large screen and android and on att. if any phone was going to convince me i needed a hardware keyboard, it would have been my touch pro 2, but with its larger screen size and more intuitive on screen keyboard, it convinced me what i needed was a thin keyboard-less large capacitive screen device. while looking at options like an australian imported hd2, i came across the streak and havent looked back. the other options i briefly looked at where the samsung captivate and sony x10. i just couldnt love to have the samsung and my brother has an x10 and well... if you think dell let down some good phone hardware, go play with an x10, its truly awful.

Hilarious!!! Its true. The seven is would be like holding a galaxy tab to your ear.
I bought my streak when it came out in august. I have owned many phones including the iphone 3g and iphone 4. The dell streak is by far the best phone I have ever owned to date. The only thing I give the ipbone 4 is the camera. The speed on the streaks camera is much improvded on froyo but still lacks behind the iphone. Other than that I love the streak! No remorse here!!!!

The 5" is perfect. It is definitely large, and it can look a bit weird held up to your face, but it puts the ear-piece and microphone in the perfect location. No more talking to the air, you talk directly into the phone.
The 7" would be nice as a tablet which can also make calls. But, I think a 7" tablet is probably too small. I hate to say it but the 10" iPad seems like the perfect sized device for a tablet. It is more like a netbook / laptop sized screen so webpages would display correctly. A 7" tablet seems like you lose a lot of capability without gaining a lot of mobility. Both are going to have to go in a bag or a bckpack or a satchel of some kind, so why not get the equally cumbersom yet larger real-estate of a full-sized tablet?
If the 7" can make calls then it gives you a great option for the back-pack tablet with a bluetooth headset. I don't know of a 10" tablet that can do that, yet, out of the box.
I'm in love with my Streak. The lady at the store even said ... "If it isn't convenient for you, you can always bring it back within 30 days." I even considered it .. you know, thought about whether or not I'd return it. I'm only 10 days into using my Streak, and I can't imagine going to anything else. The iPhone's I'm surrounded by seem so small in comparison.
I don't think I'd like a 7" primary phone. That's just too big. The Streak is about as large as I'd go to fit in my pocket for daily use. It fits in my pocket, front or back, and it rides comfortably in the center console slot of my car. It really is sized to take full advantage of the spaces in the real-world.
tl/dr :: I love the Streak and I wouldn't switch.
Well I would stick with the streak 5.. I had one and decided to switch to a windows phone, and that was a huge mistake! I now went and got another streak form BestBuy they had a white one in stock that is pretty awesome looking.. My point is, that I have had a lot of phone and the Streak is by far the best one I have had. Even running an outdated version of Android. I'm sure the 7 will be great as well, but i wold not want to carry that around as my primary device. Good luck with your purchase.
Streak 7 is still in testing phase, it will be out only by mid 2011. Galaxy tab doesn't have a earpiece built in. So conversations only through bluetooth headset or speaker. Galaxy or Streak 7 cannot be used as primary device.

Dear Motorola...it was fun but...

you had to go!!!! After having this phone for 2 weeks, it just didn't quite cut it even though on paper it was remarkable. It had a dual core processor, higher resolution, webtop capabilities on and on...
In the end I guess my old eyes couldn't handle the smaller icons due to higher resolution, I had issues with my MP3 player playing only 3/4 of song then stopping and then i wasn't liking the dual core heating up like a toaster oven. THe icons were dull colors too....Motorola likes these dull browns for icons where as HTC likes to use color and make it vivid.
I also like to play around with my phone too much so LOCKED BOOTLOADER was not cool. Did you hear me Motorola, LOCKED BOOTLOADER for a lot of people dont like that.....
So in the end I got the Inspire 4G with Sense. You really cant go wrong with HTC, although I understand the postive and negatives to each phone, mine just happen to fit more in line with HTC.
So for you hopefuls that Motorola will unlock it, wish you the best of luck or that they will do many updates, wish you the best of luck!!!
Not trying to start a huge debate, but if you are on the fence about these two phones, just spend 10 mins. with the Inspire and most people will probably like it over the Motorola.
its funny i had the inspire for 2 weeks....got rid of it a few days ago
got the Atrix...and THANK GOD I DID
4.3 inches at the **** resolution its at was a disaster, hurt my hands. Too heavy
not very fast, barely played videos (htc codecs suck)
Like you said, it comes down to opinion
but switching from inspire 4g to atrix was the best thing I ever did
PS: The battery on that thing gave me EPIC NIGHTMARES.
Can someone just make a "im returning _______" thread/topic/section?

You actually can go wrong with HTC, its when they put a 1200 mah battery in a 1.8 ghz capable phone then you get to watch your battery lose a percent every 4 minutes of use. I had one it was totally BS battery life and was totally unacceptable. Then people say "just don't OC it" so then you have a 4.3 inch captivate with less ui lag, no usable internal memory storage, and GPS that works.

I love HTC phones. But they have to be Android. I have the evo 4G and I couldn't be happier. It's fast, vibrant, has all the bells and whistles. I literally have a mini computer at the palm of my hands.
I've had it for about 3 weeks now and yeah the battery goes quick but thats because I can't put it down! I had the Hero before switching to evo and I love everything about this phone.
I didn't understand why it was called the supersonic until I used it. Is rather have my HTC evo over any other phone on the market. Puts the iPhone to shame with its 8.0mp camera, and its secondary front-mounted camera makes video chatting a synch, the kickstand is awesome for watching YouTube or movies and also playing games. Oh and I almost forgot it has an HDMI out. Used it and the picture on my tv is remarkable.
Keep up the good work HTC and Google....I love you
Oh and one other thing it has a 4G mobile hotspot that can provide WiFi for up to 8 devices at once. If thats not remarkable I don't know what is

i like the Evo and a lot of people i kno and see around campus have either the evo or iphone 4, very few galaxy S phone, but honestly i think the Atrix is better then all of them, even the Galaxy S II won't compare judging from the specs that were given(but i can't prove it until the phone comes out so it's just an opinion)
I've never been a fan of Motorola. I have had very bad experiences with mot. Phones. I have had nothing but good experiences with HTC w/google. I also used to have the blackberry curve 8310 and thought it was the best thing since buttered toast. But that quickly changed when I switched to sprint.
Sprint has better service than ATT & Verizon combined IMO. But thats just how I feel. They have given me good prices and great devices with no hassle and I'm not the type to ruin a good thing. Bottom line is "to each his own" but I will recommend HTC with Android until either HTC starts slacking or Google bites the dust (which they wont).
I'm sure you all have valid points about your phone's but I'm pro HTC and definitly pro Google.

In the end i'm glad I waited though. The Atrix is rediculously good!!! Super fast and great battery life (I get about 16 hours a charge... 16!!!) It is hands down the best phone i've ever used. Head shoulders and more above the rest, a GIANT among a sea of average phones.

I was impressed by the Inspire back when it came out on Sprint as the Evo... what, eight months ago? I made the mistake of buying old hardware that just came out once, the Hero. Never again.
Coming from the Captivate, the only things I miss are how vibrant the games looked on SAMOLED and flashing the new hot stuff roms.
Do not miss accidently bricking the thing and having to use a USB jig to fix it though...
I am from a another continent; a faraway country - Singapore to be exact. Smartphones is one of my hobbies. I have had several HTC phones - Windows Mobile, and now the Desire on Android which is about 9 months old, and high time for a replacement. I have been reading and eyeing the Atrix since Jan 2011 - all excited about it's superior tech specs, and particularly its innovative HDMI/TV docking unit. I have been preparing myself to be an early adopter and to purchase a unit from EBay at a premium price. I have been so impressed with what I read that I even invested in some MMI stocks. But, all these excitement, hype and high expectations of owning a Atrix (will be my first Moto) came to a complete stop last weekend - when I learnt that a famed developer (he did the unroot for the Atrix) abandoned his work because of the locked bootloader! Motorola may have their own reasons to do this, but it is unacceptable to me. So, unless I see a Moto announcement to unlock the bootloader, I am off looking for another dual core smartphone - either the LG 2X or wait for HTC to release one. Obviously I will also sell off my MMI stocks - even if I have to incur a loss, given its recent rapid decline. Sorry folks, if I have been somewhat off-topic. Just wanted to voice my opinion.

It really is perplexing -the decision to lock the bootloader. I mean, are they afraid someone would engineer a program that steals fingerprints...etc?

My impressions : Dell streak VS Samsung galaxy s2

Recently got Galaxy s2 and I was getting bored with dell streak
I am still debating which phone to keep
Here are my impressions.
Main thing I find different
First the most imp thing - There is nothing out there in the market at this time that can compete with our 5inch screen
Screen : Miss 5" Dellscreen ( SGS2 has 4.27inch screen ) . Miss the fun of reading emails, browsing pages and articles . This has been the biggest dissappointment for me so far. However Quality of the screen is better in GS2 with more vivid colors
If u r into documents and editing streak will kick SGS2 in the ass.
Speed : To tell the truth , I have not seen much difference . My dell streak running 354 stock had no issues with speed. I will say SGS2 is slightly faster but i dont think it makes any difference. Aint there a limit to speed ?
Battery : I think its the same. May be SGS2 consumes more ( There are reports of many people having high battery drain)
Warranty : Had so much peace of mind with streak as I had US warranty.
SGS2 in US has European warranty. Will have to see how things will work, if i need it.
What makes SGS2 better
Feel in the hand : This SGS2 wins handdown. Very light weight and thin. Very easy for one hand operation. However, the build is not great. Plasticy feeling. I dont feel as if i am using a high end device. I feels like a toy
Camera : any day better. I thing i hated in streak , is its camera
Video chat with gtalk is now possible. ( very useful for me )
Internal storage is 16 gb . Now i have a total of 48gb to play with ( however 32gb card on dellstreak was plenty enough.
Support : Now i feel what the android development community is like. Dell streak only has steve and his teams support. They are probably the best , however l am loving the contribution from many developers.
The best thing is samsung has given 5 handsets to all the cyanogen developers for development for free... I wish dell did the same thing to our developers.
CWM support is default . Meaning flashing from recovery is a breeze. U can run cwm app and all is done.
Ports : micro usb is standard.
Here is the best thing OTG support for external usb is default.
Loving the fact that i can connect any usb drive, keyboard or mouse to my phone. Wont be doing this every day but love the idea.
Accessories : Are now sparse but hopefully will get better.
There are some apps in samsung like reading hub that I think is useful. Touch wiz is no go for me.
Finally
- There have been many reports about battery drain, yellow tinge on the screen, pink spot in camera , etc > However i was lucky not to see any of it so far.
- I also believe that any 5" screen phone will never get the same user base and hence developer support as some of the other smaller form facor phones.
To conclude :Inspite of the positives of SGS2 i listed, I still believe that dell streak annouced more than an year ago is a beast device. I am still debating , but looks like I will keep my new expensive toy.
If u have questions thrown them at me.
"The best thing is samsung has given 5 handsets to all the cyanogen developers for development for free."
Wow! I will write to Dell if they can do the same. Never know until you will ask
The streak is a discontinued item. Dell won't do anything for an old device when they barely cared for it when it was new.

Where did you get that information???

I have had the Streak since the day it was released last year. The screen size is fantastic and I am generally very happy with it. But now I have had enough of a phone that's too big for my pocket and bought the SGS2. I miss the big screen and the nice screen density of the streak but I will learn to live without them. I also have a galaxy tab 7 which I use when i want a big screen experience.
The story so far....
G1
Milestone
Streak
Galaxy Tab 7
Galaxy S2
to be continued ;-)

The streak had been discontinued by att in april/may. I haven't seen one in the 6 best buys in the area in the last 6 months. So other than dell(leftover stock), what retailer sells the device? I only see no name places on amazon mobile. The advertising/support for the streak 5 was crap when it was sold by att so why would dell all of a sudden commit harder to the phone when it's life is basically over?
It's a great phone but dell screwed up from the start by not getting the device proper exposure.

In my Illinois Best Buy near St Louis, they still had black Streaks in stock in mid May. They still had the operational model on display. The model wasn't out last week, but I didn't ask if they still had any in stock.
I paid 2400rmb for my streak, that is 2200rmb lower then galaxy s2 right now.So may be I should just sell my kidney for a little bit improvement?

The Streak is more comparable to the Samsung Infuse's 4.5 inch screen. I've moved to the Infuse because of the better screen, better camera, and better speakers. The Infuse stock ROM is faster than Dell's stock. The Infuse also easily last me a whole day with moderate usage.
I don't recommend the streak anymore, specially after all the comments related to broken screens, the screen is also sensitive to humidity,static...no way.I would go with the Galaxy S2 but I think I am gonna go with the Infuse.I know the Galaxy is better but I got kind tired of buying the latest toy....there's always "the latest toy" plus if I buy the infuse I save $200.
with 5" screen, Streak's stil the best except you want other kind of tablet replacement with bigger dimension as GTab or ipad, etc
I prefer galaxy s2 than dell streak.
I'm probably going with the s2 this fall/early winter...the streak (for me) will be year old in November. Being single, with no bills, it's nice to be able to have the latest once a year or so
I can live with .5" smaller screen, at the same resolution, dual core, 2.3/.4, and (hopefully) a larger mod community.
Dell & at&t dropped the ball on this one. If the Streak2 came out with an AMOLED screen, I'd give it a look, but it sounds like it will have the same style LCD screen as the current streak.
Friend of mine as the galaxy and the BRIGHTNESS of the screen is just unbelievable, so with the "super" AMOLED screen for the S2, it should be even better.
It will be hard though, to get use to people NOT saying "that is your PHONE" when I pull the streak out of the belt pouch I carry it in
A piece of friendly advice:don't expect too much for amoled, the colour is unnatural, the power saving is not worth mention, and the worst part is,reading text on amoled/super amoled is a pain in the ass.
That's why galaxy s2 uses super amoled plus.Still,I would prefer slcd rather than amoled family.

I still love my Streak, and am going to stick with it. Because of the tracking issues with the iPhone, my wife wants to get rid of her 3GS. We will replace it with the S2. The release date for the U.S. is supposedly Jul 2011.
I just go my S2 today.
So far I love it. There may be a Streak for sale soon.
I do miss the 5" screen, but the S2 has a 4.3 and it is sooooo much more portable than the Streak.
I do love my Streak though.
If I sell, I am sure I will take a look at the Opus.
Later
The Best Buy near me had none on display, and was also out of stock. I checked BB on line as well, and no Streaks were available there either. I may try to pick-up another to have on the side, as I don't want to go to a smaller screen size when this one dies. I have no problem putting the Streak in any pants pocket front or rear, I have sat down with it in my back pocket and have had no issues with screen fragility. Basically, I love this device and I'm disappointed that it won't be readily available much longer...

Goodbye, Streak 5. It's been a great ride.

Sad for a Streak 5 owner, like me.
Such a shame the device was poorly marketed, people I know who have seen mine, 50% say its too big, but the other 50% say they would love a larger screen but just hadnt heard about the streak. Shame on dells marketing department.
Only 3 months till I need to upgrade, and no sign of the opus one, looks like all my hopes are pinned on the rumors of a 5.3" galaxy 2......

what a shame, i own this device for over 3 months and i'm more than glad to own it...
but let's look on the bright side, not too many people will have such a great smartphone...and a big one too
I've still got mine, coming up on a year old (where does the time go?)
Came with 1.6, which was better than the previous windows mobile device I had
out of the box, 1.6 was better, I didn't have to change a crap load of settings like I did with WM to get it to function. I waited on 2.2 until December, being a noob on android, I didn't want to brick it. Now that I'm a little more familiar with android, I've customized mine to my liking, and 2.2.2 is rock stable.
Since this is a 75% work 25% personal device, I've held off on 2.3x for now.
It's a shame that Dell has no clue what a little gem they have on their hands.
They've killed it because the bean counters only look at how many they sold, and not the lack of promotion.
When time comes to get a newer device, I'll have to give a serious look before I get another 5" dell, if they even have one, and that's a shame. Over the past 10+ years, I've owned nothing but Dell laptops, and have had excellent results, and only a time or two, had to have them repaired, but Dell dropped the ball on the Streak.
I just read it a couple of minutes ago. Its such a shame. I hope they do release the drivers now, so devs can port Gingerbread/IceCream to it. Oh wait. It's Dell. Ah crap, there won't be ANY drivers.
So sad to see it go. Also looks like there will be no replacement for it either. While my Dell Streak has always had its share of quirks I've never liked a phone more. Most people who saw my phone had never heard of it. Even a few people who work in the AT&T store didn't know what it was. I'm also running 2.2.2 right now and it is really stable and very nice IMO.
That being said, I have had my share of issues. Both of the batteries that I've gotten from Dell had to be replaced and the third one in my phone is beginning to show signs of being either bad or getting there (not sure how that works as I only have Dell chargers for the phone). The phone tends to over heat when running GPS and anything else ie. I get a call or play music in the car. Despite my best efforts to keep it nice, the paint is chipping off of the battery cover and the Dell logo has completely come off.
After all of that I still love this phone and will be very sad when I do have to trade it in. Though I won't miss carrying around a charger in my pocket .
My conclusion is that this phone's failure was pretty much 100% Dell's fault. If they had just gotten the freakin' thing into an AT&T store instead of only selling it online and in BestBuy this wouldn't be happening right now.
lol XD
i bought my streak 2 weeks ago ( though my brother has yet to bring it to me from far off place -.-)
I don't know if i should be worried or feel proud.
I used brother's streak and it works wonders really.
So i think they won't update phone any further ? i wanted honeycomb for my mobile because that OS is made just for tablets. Any chance for updates for OS ?

Anyways. i have heard a lot about Steve on this forums. looks like he is a streak freak XD
Honeycomb not good for streak
Honeycomb was designed for tablets with hires screens without hardware home/menu/back buttons. The streak is not really a tablet but a phone with a big screen. I'd hate to lose the use of the hardware buttons and have to use on screen buttons in honeycomb.
Hell, a lot of android apps don't run well in honeycomb and need different versions.
The streak doesn't really benefit from running honeycomb.
I agree that if you are using the streak as a phone first device then yes HC does not sound practical. but once the streak has run its course for any cunsumer, which is soon, for me. I would love to turn this bad boy into a HC mini-tablet.

Not to pile on here, but I have to agree. I literally just picked up a Galaxy SII and the only redeeming quality of the Streak is the screen size advantage.
The Streak is a great device, but it just doesn't hold a candle to the Galaxy SII at this point in time. I loved my short stint with the Streak, really. I don't want to sound like a jerk, but I want to share my experience.
My main complaints:
The speed. It actually feels slower than I ever imagined by comparison, but that's not a knock, really. After all, it's an older device
But....
The sound quality is absolutely abhorrent in comparison to the Galaxy SII or any other smartphone I've ever used, including the HD2, Vibrant, several Nokia devices, etc.
There is a constant and definitely audible signal noise in the Streak that really bugged me. As a recording engineer, I can definitely hear the difference between the audio systems on the two devices. When the playback system kicks in, you can literally hear the hiss in the background. When the playback stops, the hiss vanishes. Upon further investigation, it seems that this is a known issue that found its way into several reviews. If I hadn't heard it for myself, I'd have not believed how terrible it actually sounded, and frankly, it's SO bad that I find it inexcusable on such a high-end device.
I sold my iPod and bought a larger MicroSD to use my phone as my main portable media device, and the Streak really let me down.
I was able to sell it to a friend, since my boss agreed to subsidize my upgrade cost by 50%, so I came out about $100 ahead. I couldn't pass that up.
In my area at least, the Galaxy SII has a waiting list with at least 200 people's names on it.
Again, I don't want to sound ungrateful, because I liked a lot of aspects of the Streak, as it is a groundbreaking device in its class, but the killer was the audio system. It's really painfully bad.
I'm not sure if it was just MY device and those of the reviewers in isolation, but I doubt it. Maybe others just don't pay attention to it, but for me the hiss was disturbing.
I just got a new job and was issued a Dell Venue Pro with windows phone 7 on it.... started plugging around with that and it is now my primary phone. Can't believe how fluid it is and all the integration with mango. Using my streak primarily as a gps for the car now... :-(
just about had it with the streak being slow, clunky.. I don't blame Dell, I blame Android. After a few days with WM7... I can see that Android is not ready for prime time... it might be after whatever comes out after ice cream sandwich..
like usual though the camera is subpar on the dvp, just like the streak.
if google came out with navigation for wm7, it would be ditched already.
I never own a venue pro.must be good.do you think it's too thick or too heavy?

This is sad! You 2 guys are like celebrities in the Streak world...
I still love mine, but have not tried any newer phones. May have to look into the SGS II, as I don't see the Note being a viable alternative for the near future in the US.
Krad, what do you like about Winmo 7? I have had nothing but Windows phones since smart phones were invented (Streak is my first Android), but I heard Winmo 7 was just kind of a simplified (although pretty) UI. Is there lots of development?
I am positive that Android is the wave of the (foreseeable) future, and have really enjoyed it.

If you had to give up your streak today what would you replace it with?

I had a close call and almost lost my streak. Then thought of "what if I have to buy something else?" came to mind.
I have no idea what I could get to replace the streak? Any ideas? Just in case.

Another Streak would be my first guess. Then I would maybe think about the EVO 3D(don't care for 3D just want dual core)
Atrix ftw. And see what samsung announces soon.
I voided my warranty and your mum.
This has been on my mind as well. I had a close call this weekend myself. My Streak went into an endless reboot loop and would not stop. FINALLY I got it to boot and immediately did a factory reset. So far so good but I'm getting nervous about this thing in general. I went back to my WinMo phone over the weekend and I'm still liking it but there's too much crap like Words With Friends, etc that I can't live without now. And I'm not wild about Android either but I had to have it with the Streak.
Bottom-line for me ... Probably will switch to the iPhone 5 when it comes out. Mooooooooo!

Ouch!!
I actually have a second backup streak but if I couldn't use it for some reason then I would probably go back to my winmo phone. I have an old Tilt.
It'd either be that or my old BB curve duct-tapped onto my laptop. Then I would just wait for hopefully the next 5" streak, or another 5" Android phone.
No i-anything for me. Flash is a must.
I would have to hunt down another premium-condition Streak, even if I had to may more for it (sad to say)... I've owned virtually every "premium" phone available.... Nexus S, iPhone 4 (w/Gevey SIM), G2 and a G2x.... None can compare (even though the Nexus S and the G2x were faster)..... What good is it if you can load a full web page in 2-seconds if you have to spend another 3-seconds scrolling and zooming in order to see it
That new 4.5" Samsung sounds good on paper, but their products are so cheaply constructed (Nexus S good example of that), that I'll Streak til I die LOL

Atrix or any other phone with webtop would be a viable alternative.

another streak i think

Winmo? God I have the HTC Advantage and I can barely live with Winmo.. and thats the BADEST Winmo phone ever made.

I don't think "cheaply constructed" is a good argument since our phone is primarily held together by glue!!. =-X.
I'm using a Motorola Atrix currently. I still keep my streak, but I use it as my alarm clock on my nightstand, e-reader, web surfer / all of the above while I'm at home.
I love my streak and will never get rid of it, but unfortunately I cannot get my work email on my streak because of security limitations. Otherwise, i'd still be using my streak.

Aaron 89..... you're absolutely right about our Streaks being held together by glue (not to mention a shoddy battery door/locking mechanism) However; My Samsung-made Nexus S was left in the car (not in direct sunlight), for about 5-hours and the heat caused the screen to separate from the case... That's why, in my experience, I am convinced Samsung phones are made of the cheapest/thinnest plastics available.... They did replace it, but I sold the replacement phone IMMEDIATELY and bought myself a Streak and have never looked back
Speaking of Windows Mobile, oops, I mean "Windows Phone",.... my cousin has a Dell Venue Pro, and that phone is a true piece of engineering.... it's absolutely beautiful and it's so heavily constructed I believe you could drive nails with it.... I almost bought one and probably would have, but I just can't stomach Microsoft's phone OS (compared to Android)... it's intuitive enough, but just so damned boring to look at, not to mention lacking in capabilities (no threaded conversations in email, no call filtering (or app), for contacts, "cut & paste" VERY limited across their platform, etc..

The atrix has official gingerbreak on it. I"m not sure what security protocols are being followed, but everytime I tried to connect via my Streak, I was given the message "Your hardware does not meet the requirements" or " Unable to something or other regarding the security requirements set forth by my network administrator".

I love the windows mobile 7 OS! I used my streak 5" for a personal phone, and used a Dell Venue Pro as my work phone and it's quite an amazing phone. IT's very simple... Much more so than an iPhone, but it's the perfect OS for non-techie types... (i.e. my mom, my grandmother, my wife...)
