sd card 32gb class 2 or 10? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

what is better? for example class 10 may be more dangerous (it can be damaged more than class 2?) ?
now i have a 32gb sandisk class 2
in general, these microsd are secure or can happen like hard disks that can be damaged with a hd2 used all the days?
let me know

Why not go for a class 4 instead?

Because there are class10

Hi,
Best for Android are Sandisk and Kingston.
Try to find out the READ speed.

well why did you ask the question then

read speed is 13.8
write is 5.5
and is a class 2
what about class 4 and class 10?

class 10 are redunandant in phones, they are mostly for cameras where they need the high speed to write the large picture out
you would be better off geting a class 4 or a class 6 card, you will not see any difference between them anda class 10 card

16GB Class 2 or Class 6 ?

I am not quite sure about this..
The Class 6 is 40% more expensive than class 2 ... But which one is better for my HD2 ?
Is class 6 will worth it ? any tech glitch if I use class 6 (maybe too fast ?)
Thanks

I dont think its woth it. but its a bit faster. if your budget allow you go for it
I think class 4 is the best of both worlds...
class 2 maybe too slow on saving something like a long video u shoot with your cam and i think that class 6 doesnt worth its money.. i have a 8gb class 4 and im really happy with it..
I have a Transcend 16GB Class6 and it is especially fast when use HD2 as "storage memory" or when insert the microSD directly in to my PC.
During the normal use probably a Class 4 is ample.
Regards
Class 2 is more than adequate. Your card is only as fast as the writer/reader hardware.
Food for thought: The majority of 16Gb MicroSD failures with the HD2 have been Class 4 (me included - I had a 2 month old Sandisk Class 4, 16Gb fail on me in this phone, bought a new Kingston Class 2, 16Gb and have not had a problem)
Obviously, yes. But I have no problem at all with my microSD Transcend 16GB Class6 on my Leo HD2.
All works fine and fast. And the hardware reader/writer on the HD2 is used at maximum of it's performance
Regards
Class 6 is too expensive. I got the Sandisk 16GB uSDHC Class2 and it's fine.

same here, working perfect
Same with me!
I disagree with most guys in here. considering that you have just spend a hell lot of money on the HD2, I think that you might as well spend a few more bucks on a class 6 card, than a class 2. Especially considering that micro sd cards are so cheap today, I see no problem in that tiny bit of extra cost.
Class 6 value?
Of course it's worth it.
Copying, TomTom, photos, are all faster.
I don't believe Sandisk make a class 6 16g
It is important to note that using a class 6 rather than class 2 card will make absolutely no difference whatever to the performance of the phone - the phone itself is unable to read from or write to the card any faster than a class 2 card can easily cope with. The only time the class of the card makes a difference is if you take it out of the phone and plug it into a card-reader attached to a desktop PC.

Surely this phone can read faster than that? Seems odd that a high spec phone like this can't read faster than a class 2 card.

The difference between class 2 and 4 is noticable to me on the HD2, so a class 6 would be nice, but so hard to find.

Well, you have to ask what the phone might be doing that would actually require data to be read or written that quickly. If you're watching a video, for example, the highest bit-rate you'll encounter will be 2 to 3 Megabits per second. Even the worst class 2 cards can be read at 3+ Megabytes per second. So you certainly won't get smoother video playback with a higher class of card. The camera doesn't take pictures quickly enough for the data transfer rate to the card to become a limiting factor. What might you be doing that needs more than class 2 speed? Given that you don't need more than class 2 speed, it would be a waste of money to enable the phone to read or write faster than that.
If you don't believe me, try running an SD card benchmark on your phone, and let us know the results.
The class ratings tend to be quite conservative, in fact, especially on name-brand cards. You can easily read at 8 or 9 MB/s off a "class 2" card from Sandisk (indeed, it may even outperform a no-name "class 6" card). That's more than enough speed for the phone.

Low power micro sd card recommendations for Android?

I currently have a 2Gb class 2 micro sd card.
What is the best class and size for speed and battery consumption?
I was thinking about something like this class 10 card: http://www.mymemory.co.uk/SDHC/Transcend/Transcend-8GB-SD-Card-(SDHC)---Class-10-
Anyone know if there are any fast low power cards that will work effectively?
Class 6 is enough. Just buy a Sandisk or some other reputable brand

Anyone using a class 10 card?

Hey. Just curious how many of you have replaced the stock 16gb class 2 sdcard with class 4,6 or 10. Can you chime in with your inputs on performance between these classes. I know the theoretical transfer speeds, but I am curious how they actually perform in day to day use. Would jumping from a class 2 to class 6 be noticeable, or a class 6 to class 10?
Thanks
I am interested to.
Have just upgraded to an Ebay 16gig Class 6. Speed is faster than a Class 2 but not sure if it is a Class 4 or class 6.
Tempted to buy a 8gig Class 10 but struggling to find a reputable source of these.
In case you don't know Class x denotes the write speed. Class 2 has a 2meg/sec. Class 6 has a 6meg/sec write speed. Also gt a increase in read speed. All must be good for the HD unless the Interface is slower than the card??

From my reading and investigation, not many devices out there support such high speed, I'm thinking phone isn't one of the device that do. I would like to see someone do some testing and see if there is a difference on a HD2 between a class 6 vs class 10.
I didn't know they had a class 10, but I'm running a class 6 and I can tell the difference from the 16gb stock card. Loading Android is a lot faster too.

I have a class 10... Its a great diference.
I've got a couple of 16Gig class 2s and a 4Gig class 10. I can certainly tell a difference. I haven't done any empirical testing but gut says it's almost twice as quick. The difference comes when you multitask, getting a couple apps open, app loading, etc.
The problem with the 4Gig is the obvious lack of size. I'm thinking of buying a 32Gig class 4.

Looking at numbers alone, a class 6 is three times faster than a class 2 and a class 10 is five times faster than a class 2 so upgrading from a class 2 would appear to be a sure fire bet in both cases
In comparison a class 10 is only 1.6 times faster than a class 6.
So I think I will stick with my class 6 for now until class 12+ comes out.
So in conclusion do you guys think a faster SD card is necessory? because once xda team finish develop a perfect android rom i believe they are gonna make it a rom, in that case we would'nt need a faster SD card, But i really wonder if a faster SD card improves the performance? Can someone kindly provide a video for this ? Thanks ,,
class 10
I have a 16gb kingston class 10, compared to my Transcend 8gb class 6, not that much difference, compared to my Class 2 16gb that came with the phone? huge difference.
I'm now going out, to buy a 16GB classe 4 , i think is sufficient, given that in September Cttula will provide NAND, and the class will no longer important, and I'd rather have more space for my photos and videos, in vacation than a business card 8GBclasse10 faster.
Is the ETA for NAND September?
Nand speed vs. Class 10 card?
Anyone know what the read/write speed of the nand memory is as compared to the say the read/write speed of a class 10 card? I know it should be faster, but is it really that much faster?

SD Card Class

Dear xda-community,
a simple question: Which classes do you consider reasonable and which are overkill? Class 2 , 4 , 6 or 10?

There are only very small differences in real-world performance in MicroSD cards no matter what class they are (unlike "normal" SD cards). Even a class 2 will give no problems with HD video recording. I've got a 16 GB Sandisk Class II. Cheap. No problems. What more could we want?
Agreed...
Phone's do not have great demands on memory cards, not even when writing at the highest video frame rate.
I have quite a few Micro SD's to choose and use.
Although I'm using a Sandisk 16GB Mobile Ultra which has a Class rating of 4, in real tests it performs much much faster but is quite really overkill for the Phone.
My recommendation, don't get a cheap Class 2 but go for a solid & reliable card.
It's worth paying that little extra on say a Sandisk Class 2 than a low rated unbranded Class 4/6.

As I have already mentioned it's not so much the class rating that matters but more the quality of the card.
The matrix of the Galaxy S's buffer run does not need anything great.
As such a reliable Class 2 would suffice.
As an example the Sandisk 32GB Class 2 easily provides acceptable video frame rates.
I recently ran this card and my present Sandisk 16GB Mobile Ultra card and visibly there was no difference in both saving camera video's or showing either a camera video or movie.

Why? Please let me see some benchmarks that can convince me there is any idea in buying a class 4 instead of a class 2.
Check these benchmarks: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1468705
So, just buy a cheap 16 GB Sandisk class 2 - anything else will be a complete waste of money.

Again agreed.
The answer here is in the name Sandisk.
MoWa22 also fully understands and appreciates it's the brand what delivers and not so much the Class rate.
Sandisk cards often perform much faster than their same class counterparts.

[Q] Desire Z SD card class?

Hi,
Does anybody here knows which class is the 8gb micro sd card included in the Desire Z??
Not 100% positive on this but I remember reading somewhere that it was only a class 2 card... =/
I got a class 4 card, but seems to be a bit of lottery.
I've read that some got class 2.
Mine was 8 GB, Samsung, Class 2. And it got replaced right away with a 16 GB Class 10.

Is there any point in a class 10?
Can the Z handle it? I know the Pulse has a limit of class 6...
Also - nice card.
Damm I hope I get a class 4 but how can you know which class is the sd card? Does it say on it?
Yes typically the card will have the class printed on it.
Remember though the class is a measurement of the MINIMUM speed the card is capable of handling.
Ex: Class 4 can write at a MINIMUM of 4 mb/s. I have a kingston class 4, 8GB card that I have tested thourougly and it regularly writes at 8+ mb/s.
Not sure where you draw the line on what is overkill for an Android Device. I know on other devices, I.E. SLR Cameras, a slow/bad card can have a big impact on the way things run...
Came with a Samsung Class 2 8GB for me, replaced it with an San Disk 16GB Class 4.

Yes, it can handle the Class 10. The only real benefit is when doing 720p video recording. Most of the time, anything over a Class 4 will feel the same in day-to-day usage (other than video recording).
The other advantage is that if you transfer files to the phone, it'll be somewhat faster.
Also, the card you get with the DZ, it show the class right on the card itself. In my case it was a Samsung 8GB MicroSDHC Class 2. Replaced with a Kingston 16GB MicroSDHC Class 10. <3
Here's a somewhat subjective read on the topic: http://pocketnow.com/android/does-using-a-faster-sdcard-make-your-phone-faster
I don't know if you can see the difference between Class 2 and Class 10 on the Desire Z. Maybe running some apps that install on SD Card is a little faster, also saving photos, browsing through MP3s, playing videos, etc.
When moving large quantities of data (bigger files), there is an increase in speed, e.g. 18 MB/s (Class 10) vs. 10-12 MB/s (Class 2). I expect the differencte to be the same with small files, but I haven't tested yet. Maybe it's not worth the double price tag, but I needed 16 GB and chose to go with the fastest option available...
Mine and everyone else I know with a Z or G2 came with a samsung 8gb class 2 card.
I have now put my 8Gb class 4 in, but I might look to get a bigger class 4 or 6 card soon.
