I currently have a 2Gb class 2 micro sd card.
What is the best class and size for speed and battery consumption?
I was thinking about something like this class 10 card: http://www.mymemory.co.uk/SDHC/Transcend/Transcend-8GB-SD-Card-(SDHC)---Class-10-
Anyone know if there are any fast low power cards that will work effectively?
Class 6 is enough. Just buy a Sandisk or some other reputable brand

isnt it possible to put the android rom on the mobile memory directly to improve speed'n stuff ?
The card you are looking at is an SD. You need a microSD.

8GB Class 6... Can't go wrong

Might sound like a strange question, but what would you suggest getting for most stable Android run. I've had a SAN DISK 16GB but it would always get corrupt and formatting (tried using SD Formatter/windows tools/phone) would only fix the problem for short time.
So which of the following in your opinion is the most reliable choice:
1. SAN DISK
2. PATRIOT
3. Kingston
4. ADATA
5. Transcend
6. Lexar
7. SONY
Also, what class (2,4,6 would be nice if someone could explain whats best and generally what it means). As well as capacity (whether it affects reliability)
No one buy the kingston class 4 4gb card, does not work well at all! I trashed it lol
i got a Class 10 Patriot card, works well, really well
Transcends 8gb Class 6!
Never had a problem with it
Hi, I am using transcend 8Gb card. I dont find any problem till now.
RiData 16GB Class 6
Been using it for 2 weeks. No issues.
Write & Read transfers are averaging 9mbs when transfering backups to and from.
Kingmax 8Gb Class 6, not bad
Don't buy transcend 8gb class 6 card in any situation, it has really bad power drainage problem in every build, after I swapped it with my friends verbatim class 4 8gb I have top 1 % per hour drain in standby, believe me.
Stock 16 gb san disk I got when I purchased my hd2, runs amazingly
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Got 3 sandisks 2 4 8gb..all work well
I use stock card

Any way to check faulty micro sd?
Thanks everyone for the input, seems like I've either got a faulty SanDisk card or doing something wrong here. Are there any tools to test whether or not my 16Gb SanDisk micro sd is faulty or possibly corrupt... By the way, I got it off ebay for $20... seems fishy, although it came in original packagin brand new.
...
German TakeMS 4GB Class6, works like a charm...
Transcend 16gb class 6 runs Android with no hiccups at all and the transfer rate is blazing fast
Samsung 4Go Class 4, low battery drainage, performs like a class 6 card. Original style (grey coloured).
Battery consumption
Battery consumption on Transcend sucks if you want long battery life use sandisk or best by my tests 8gb class 4 Kingston.
i have 4 different sd cards kingston 4 gig class 2, 2 sandisk 4 gig , and a class 6 transcend 8 gig...and i always get better results with the stock card

Sd card don't have jack sh*$ to do with battery drain. As far as cards go, it don't matter. Just pick one. There all the same regardless if someone says this one is faster because it's a class 6, or 8. I have a class 2,4, and 8. No difference what so ever. Even though its written on the class 8 at a higher speed.
Any idea on why sometimes I find non-removable random symbol files on my SD? Does this indicate corruption?
German TakeMS 8gb class 6 extreme fast and stable.
beware buying microsd on ebay
chk this site before buying http://sosfakeflash.wordpress.com/
Because the stock supplied one is too small for my music and I want to get a bigger SD card. Does the GT540 work with a SDHC card?
Yes
I use a 32gb micro sdhc

Thanks very much
Also make sure you get a higher class SDHC for improved read and write speeds.
Class 4 minimum.
I've got a 8gb Class 2, and I think Class 2 is enough, I don't there's a noticable difference to a Class 4 card
Hi,
I am using an 8GB Class 4 MicroSDHC card for booting my Android ROM,
Would upgrading to say an 32GB Class 10 MicroSDHC improve the running speed of the ROM or just the data transfer ect.
I am booting Via Haret.exe using stock WM6.5 if this helps,
thanks,
Alex

Good to here, will save me £70
In my experience I saw that most of the ROMs, scripts and kernels are kind of limited to, or working best, with certain classes of SD cards, i.e. higher is not always better.
Also, in order to get the best performance with your card's SD class you have to adjust the readahead buffer to match it.

There was a thread about this ages ago if I'm not mistaken but as a very general summary, no. Stick with classes 2 and 4 for running SD android. Save yourself some money!
I think it's more dependent on brand. Try Sandisk or Kingston (seeing as you're in the UK) they're good quality. Just a heads up if you ever want to try MAGLDR and dual boot with Windows Phone 7 or NAND Android, Kingston 16GB Class 4 SD cards don't work with MAGLDR for booting SD Android Works fine on winmo though.
From my understanding (I'll try and find a reference) but class 10 cards achieve there speeds through sequential file systems while class 4 and 6 are non-sequential.
This would seem to mean that class 10 would always be markedly faster than class 4/6 but android can only make use of non-sequential so you won't notice the increase in speed.
You will notice the difference when transferring thing across from PC to the card using a reader, but as I understand it class 10 won't increase substantially of a SD card ROM.
Now a follow up question:
If you run a ROM of the sdcard does that mean that the sdcard's lifespan will be greatly reduced as it's constantly being written to and flash memory deteriorates overtime/numerous write cycles?
I am planning to buy Sandisk Ultra 16 GB (Class 10) SD card.
Can I use it to run CM7 from it?
Will this be better choice over Class 4 as Class 6 is not available?

Ordinarily the SanDisk class 4 is the SD of choice. That is because it has superior small file read/write speeds to higher class SDs. The one you are asking about is relatively new and I don't know if many have tried to see how well it works. Look at this thread to see why most recommend the class 4:

So Sandisk cl 4 is enough for running cm 7 from it.(I asked the question because I wanted to be clear wether the UI would be snappy with class 4).
Thank you for saving me some
I honestly can't tell any difference in running from emmc or a Sandisk Class 4... in terms of UI responsiveness..

Sandisk doing better than Samsung in SD, for higher performance, i use Sandisk UHS-I 8GB SD.
I used both NativeSD and DataonExt. My Scandisk Ultra 16G work fine.
Sandisk 10 class with UHS - hd2 incompatible
I tested 2 microsd cards(I bought in one place at once) with 2 different hd2.
first card worked with bouh hd2, but only 1-2 days => after freeze.
second card freezed at boot always, on both phones.
MD5 checksum was identical for both cards.
Both cards work very quickly with other devices without glitches.
Now i use 4.2.2 with transcend 10 class without UHS. HD2 is fast now, more than ever... A1 SD Bench: 18.9mb/s read, 10.5mb/s write.

I would strongly suggest checking out this thread.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1947560
My SanDisk 32gb class 6 card reads about 10mbs higher than yours. My suspicion is that it's your buffer size that needs to be adjusted, but that thread is one of the best resources for optimizing you're card.

Do you test speed by "SD Tools" ? In this programm my transcend show 33mb/s, but it's cached speed, i saw same speed on 2 class card.
I agree what sandisk very fast. But cards with UHS not worked with my both hd2(512mb EU and RU versions )
SDTools seems to be the XDA standard from most when testing you're SD card. I find it very accurate and reliable.
