Hi all.
Im really angry about Euro 3g xoom update.
Motorolas behaviour is unbelievable.
No support for update. No support at all. They says to me they dont knoe when 3.1 update will be avaiable.
Asus released 2 weeka ago the update for is device.
So...the only hope it someone building 3.1 rom for 3g euro devices...

Moto have said the update will now be released in August! All we can do is wait and see....

Are you sure about August? This really sucks
What is wrong with Motorola or google, why must we wait so long?
Bugger that, in that case I'll be ditching this thing. Moto's support is shockingly bad.

I hear you, ive had the UK Xoom since April and ive been through all the stages....shock, anger, dissapointment and now acceptance
Some point to Google being the problem, but I suspect its Motorola and their distain for anything outside the US. I wont be buying their products again.
As an interim measure I suggest using a 3rd party launcher such as ADW or Launcher Pro. have found the Xoom to be much more stable and a pleasure to use with these great apps. 3.01 is frankly a disgrace.

i know you are talking about the 3g version, but i have the wifi and thought exactly the same, I was reluctant for moto in the first place but thought if google were pulling the strings of updates it wouldn't be so bad.
in the end i flashed the us wifi rom and got 3.1 in a few minutes...
it is pretty poor... a few languages to be added in and maybe a tweak here and there and job done - but noooo

I'm also angry and disappoint. The hardware of Xoom is really good, but the customer service is really horrible if you are non US. I think this will be my first & last Motorola product I will have (unless its for free).
To be honest, I quit giving a ****, I wont get rid of it but moto is on the list of people with **** customer service not to buy from again. There is nothing I hate more than big companies who will take all your money then screw you.

Like Lothaen I have the Wifi only and upgraded to the US image and 3.1. It's great but that doesn't excuse the fact that Moto are holding back the 3.1 update outside the US. When I ordered the Xoom it was my impression that it would be a Google Experience device. That's not the case if you're outside the US.
Don't get me wrong, I love this thing... I just think Moto could be doing a better job.

I added them to the similar list as Comet - although comet still beat Moto for me... I'll definitely avoid buying anything that could go wrong from them again... TV/vacuum etc. - nothing that has the potential to be repaired by them...
and nothing that may require update/support from Moto

Go figure.
Just remember guys. You can never take a cellphone carrier or product maker for their word. Nothing is ever what they say. Remember that white iPhone announced June 2010? It just came out 10 months later. Even companies like Apple who very rarely break big promises for upgrades or releases do this.
The sad thing is they tried to justify the $800 price of the 3G Xoom by saying it would be upgradeable to 4G. If they're going to charge more, you'd think that there would be more of a firm date on this. That's whats most troubling about all of this.
Remember, it hasn't happened till you've officially been given the upgrade.
After the crash of the LTE network yesterday and taking almost 24 hoursto get it back I am happy my XOOM was not 4G-LTE!
Like i said before the 4g upgrade wont be out until the summer..im ok with waiting on that i just want that sd card to work thru google & or motorola....

Talked to rep today and he said charge was pulled for an unknown reason for indefinate time. He suspects related to outage yesterday and will probably be on hold till next week from rumors he heard.
Obviously, at least to me, that there are some bugs to work out. I would rather wait longer than have a crappy 4G experience. And I hope better battery life using 4G. From what I have read in reviews, you can hear the battery juice being sucked out when using it.

IDK for sure but as far as I know it dropped 3G for non-4G enabled phones as well. People reported being dropped to 1x from their 3G phones.
But it does seem that Verizon is sheepish about 4G since their huge outage. I heard many stores even stopped selling Thunderbolts while the 4G was out (for obvious reasons). I doubt Verizon is jumping at the opportunity to release more 4G devices to their network to start taxing it. They ain't gonna update the Xoom or release more 4G devices till they're good and ready.
This is all good but there are a lot of Wifi Only Xooms out there that really want a stable build of Honeycomb or the source code, whichever Google picks as long as they do it already!

Not true -- if Honeycomb was stable:
Google would have released the source code
My browser wouldn't randomly crash and/or lag
Widgets wouldn't spuriously freeze
The SD Card would work (and no mentioning Tiamat, I'm talking about stock here)
In no way do these items disqualify the Xoom from being good, but let's not kid ourselves -- there is a fair amount of work left to be done to mature the Xoom user experience.

Google didn't release source but multiple devices are coming, honeycomb is stable.
My browser lags and crashes on flash sites, pretty sure adobe has something to do with this, also random crashes doesn't mean its not stable unless its actually unusable. MANY apps fc alot on regular android. Saying the browser can be tweaked doesn't mean honeycomb is unstable.
once again no SD doesn't mean unstable, not even going to go there with you on the SD. IPad doesn't even have SD card so is it unstable? Honeycomb is unstable because your 4g doesn't work also, lmfao

Exactly.
Frankly, once LTE is available, I'm waiting for all of you to let me know how bad it sucks or doesn't suck. I'm happy with my battery as it is, and I prefer battery performance to faster download speeds.
So I'm not crying about this at all.
I bet Verizon is starting to get upset by Motorola's constant delays though, given both this and yesterday's "update", which appeared to surprise Verizon just as much as the rest of us.

Disagree, my device crashes a good 3 to 5 times a day, just randomly I get on Tapatalk and it restarts itself. If you think this is stable, you are out of your mind. I am impress though that it doesn't feel like a beta, sure it crashes but I think that's mainly due to the fact that it's fairly new. Something that feels like a beta. Windows Phone 7 at launch, you picked it up and it just didn't feel like a smartphone, couldn't copy and paste or even multi task, at least Google got all that right they just didn't make it as stable as iOS. My browser crashes so frequently I can barely browse on. I think if they update it to be as stable as Gingerbread, then I wouldn't complain too much about the whole not having Netflix or Hulu.

Issue No. 16992 in the Android Open Source Project has to do with Exchange support on the Xoom after the Android 3.1 update -- namely how it's not working.
Comment No. 28 on the issue, apparently made by a Googler, seems to address this, saying:
"There should be a 3.2 update coming within days, and that should help those of you with the Xoom."

You are not alone. I take pleasure in knowing that none of my money will be spent on Motorola products again. I am happy that the margin of error on their part is so blatantly large that there will be tons of people who walk away from this experiance unwilling to ever buy a product from Motorola again on principle.

I thought I learnt my lesson with the Moto Atrix, but no, I had to go and get the MZ601 (EU) tab on Optus and its still sitting on 3.0 - probably never to see the light of 3.1 or 3.2...
Motorola really need to get their Fcuking asses into gear and demand carriers release FW on time and within a set period of the SDK being available.... Until they do this, they'll never be a top 3 manufacturer ever
From what I just read on the Moto forum, it seems the firmware approval process goes :
Carrier -> Moto -> Google
I honestly think it's Google holding up the approval process and moto is getting kicked in the teeth for it, same way they did with microSD.
I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

i can't imagine they will think twice about non us updates. If they ignored us for 3.1 then 3.2 will probably be the same. I dont really understand this but how can they ignor the rest of the world ??
The US is the larger market, also Motorola is a American company.
Just like Japanese companys release updates and products in Japan before anywhere else.
did you see the pie chart for android versions?
3.1 has 0.5% and 3.0 had 0.4% or something
'most' people have 3.1 now - so maybe they just imagine that most people have a US Xoom (or one of the other many models that have the 3.1 updates..)
Moto might think they are catering for a minority?
i thought it was interesting most 3.x were 3.1 though
You know that our wonderful developers will be making it possible for all of us to get the latest updates ASAP.

It's odd, because it has the same price as the other high end tablet and it was the most popular as i said i considered it a NEXUS tablet, and it will probably not be the second one to receive ICS either, that will be the asus transformer
It's crap because not only wa the xoom branded as a GED ...
... not only did the Android team happily blog that ICS compiles for Xoom right out the gate with no tweaks ...
... not only did team EOS get leaked Chinese drivers to make everything work ...
... Motorola _still_ couldn't be bothered to get the update out in time.
Seriously they lined themselves up to have almost zero work on this port ... and they still blew it.
i also bought the xoom thinking it would be treated differently as it was the first "google tab" i have yet to see any special favoritism towards this device.

test..................
What a shocker Motorola borked an update, I guess they are too busy putting out 3 new phones and tablets every week to be bothered to do updates if google doesn't fix them they are done
I paid more for this thing when other tablets were out just so I didn't have to wait for updates...... Guess I was wrong
For the record the "test" wifi users signed up for last week still has not been released
Or maybe they don't want to look like dicks because Google bought them. Maybe Google want everyone to see that Motorola isn't its bff..... or its just the same old Motorola doing what they do best...nothing. you know what will put a cherry on top? Locking the boot loader.
From the sound of things for the soak test Wifi users were signing up for, Google is in control of the update, which makes sense, since it is a GED after all. It may not be Motorola's choice/decision.

In the Q&A, someone from SFR clarifies that the update has been delayed and they don't have an ETA yet. That's all it means. We didn't have an ETA before, so in effect nothing has changed.
This French site is making it up as they go along. They are talking out of their rear end.

Why would Google give inside information to some tin-pot French operator when they have bigger fish to fry with their bigger markets?

Yeah, it makes zero sense. Google isn't "suspending" an update that never existed to begin with. They are surely working on 4.0.4 or whatever comes next and will release it as soon as it passes the QA tests.

Lol... that tin-pot provider is pretty big in France, which is a part of the not so small European market. And as far as I remember, us Europeans are the only ones so far who've got an official update. (Plus the American off-shoot, T-Mobile, of course).

It is also the only source of this rumor and has never been verified by any outside source. Therefore, I tend to believe it is nonsense. And it seems the initial report was inaccurate so it is hard to blame Google for information they didn't release that was not true.
Google must be doing something really big in the next update. Otherwise they wouldn't have delayed it for 3 months.
Or maybe Google devs are too much busy with 5.0 that they are hardly concerned with further updates on ICS.
Just wild guesses. Waiting for a surprise from Google.

My thoughts exactly. They must be cooking up something good.

Not that I want Google to rush or anything, but I must say ICS on my Nexus S (Tmobile) runs quite poorly. Things hiccup and lag a bit, and when returning to the home screen (especially from Chrome or games), the home screen icons can take upwards of 5+ seconds to load. It happens frequently, and is quite frustrating.
Don't get me wrong, I love ICS, but owning a Nexus device to get the latest update is slightly overrated if it means my year+ old phone can't run it well due to hardware limitations. Kind of makes the second year of owning this device less enjoyable.
I'm hoping an update will address this.

For not realising a bugfixed version of ICS or not releasing practically any version at all on some models. It's the first time that google experience phones will get update after the others...and the comments after mine seem not to disagree so much...
How is something that was never officially planned be suspended??
