2.1 Experience on Xperia X10

Hello Xperia patient fans,
I installed Android 2.1 yesterday (don't ask me how, I have good connections) here are the proofs:

and here are my first impressions.
- First of all the system is faster (only after few hours of use it really became faster).
- The interface is really nice, a lot of improvements in all details.
- Address book is integrated with Facebook contacts in a very nice wy, you get all updates directly in your phone book

- There is no Multitouch
- Live wallpapers are included
- No pintch and zoom
- Moxier mail is still there
- Battery seems to last longer (I'll confirm after longer usage)
- Phone dialer application is improved

I didn't try it, I am not really interested in rooting my phone yet, I heard I'll loose my warranty :-D

it has both methods, Root and Unroot, you wont loose any, if you need the file let me know I can send the link to you by pm

I never had any issues with low speaker volume so not an issue for me

Mh realy? Lucky guys........... i have read many threads where users complaining about this low volume. After turning the level up the voice gets distorted. It should be a known problem.
But if this has not affect you, you wont notice a change ofc. So nevermind
BTW: Im talking about the IN-Call Volume! Dont mean the Speaker for out-side Sound. Sry English isnt my native language........

3D Gallery is the default Eclair gallery, that has been replaced by Mediascape.
It is still there though in the /system/app, I saw it in the system dump you provided us.
If you choose to place the Picture Frame widget on your screen, it opens the 3D gallery to choose a picture from.
And for the love of God, you have -theoretically- lost your warranty since you installed a pre-release of the firmware, so please try the one-click app to root!

sorry i don't have it. But i read somewhere that the widget called "Picture Frame" use 3D Gallery.

hey mugur can you just add a video with different live wallpapers.i really dont like that one everyone who get 2.1 just show only that one.

Have a working SGS2

Hey Community,
Due to the company I work for being great. They have allowed me to borrow a working SGS2 for the night. So tonight I will be taking requests for anything people would like me to try out within reason. If you have a request post it or PM me

Get a piece of paper, write your forum name on it and take a photo with both the SGS2 and that paper on it. Then we're serious. Btw this is no offense but due to others claiming they had the phone when they didn't
If that's done then please try out the new Hubs that Samsung has integrated, then test the sound quality of the speakers AND if you connect good earphones.

Please check if the browser render text on websites

if it is the retail or at least the android 2.3.3 version, please do a nenamark benchmark and test some heavy web pages with flash on the browser

Speaker quality is really clear now longivity of this is another question I'm unable to answer. Compared to the Vibrant the loudness is the same but it is a slight bit clearer

I'd like to know how the audio quality is for the phone.

Looks like you got an early pre production version of the SGS II if we look to the Android version. Newer versions of the SGS II run on Android 2.3.3. Anyway, I'm happy for you, I would love to get a SGS II in my hands.

How good is Touch Wiz 4.
What are the drawbacks that you have noticed so far on the phone?
Can you confirm file system and see if the bootloader is locked?
Is there any lag?

This is a pre production version..

Flash is working great. Loaded case-mate.com in no time (i am running on wifi) and the flash animations on the site work flawlessly

Drawbacks so far is it is a bit laggy especially on boot but no where near what the vibrant was upon release..
I am a bit of a noob, not complete, so not sure on how to check to see if boot loader is locked or not. Remember its not rooted

Yep, I know. But there are different 'types' of pre production models. There are those from WMC that got Andoid 2.3.1 and you got newer types that run on Android 2.3.3.
So if you run a benchmark, the result would probably be low, because the software isn't fully optimized on your type/version.

Arc Awesome Sound Quality Glitch

Hi all.
I found a glitch to best speaker quality when playing some music
All you need to do is to play music and then go to track id, and try to find song(then just deny request)... *hear it?

Someone's going to have to tell me.. I've unlocked my bootloader so I can't use trackID... !!!

If I follow shtreber's instructions, the speaker sound changes significantly. I wouldn't call it perfect (speaker sound is one of the few things I hate about my Arc..), but it's less shrill.

Just what exactly does this glitch do? (Sorry, I don't have an arc of my own yet but should be in the possession of one in the coming month).

Works! How to keep it this way?

sammobile has released i9300 firmware , jut download it and extract the apk or ask the op to share the apk

I exacted that file from Galaxy S3 and just install on my Note. I will share after I done my uploading

I cant install the .apk ...

So close! I installed it on my Galaxy Nexus, opened it and got all the way through the tutorial. But when I clicked the button to change the wake up phrase it crashed, and now crashs on opening...
I've got hope someone can figure out how to get it working tho, and I'll keep messing around with it as well.

Installed and tested it on my SGS2
... but I'm not impressed, at least of the german Version.
Starting apps works.
Calling a contact works more or less - it spelled the name i said wrong but called the right person.
Like siri, it doesn't know the weather in fuerteventura - Google voice search does.
I think I'm faster when I do things old-style (by typing) , then with s voice.

Can you upload the apk to dropbox please?

Samsung fix the damn dialer

This **** isnt OK Samsung!
When you use the dialer and hit contacts and then Keypad and then Contacts the screen goes black and redraws and lags like crap.
People use the dialer every time they use the phone and its just BAD.
How on earth do you think you will ever compete with iOS when you have glaring problems with the most basic functions.
The functionality is OK but the implementation is terrible.
If you cant make Touchwiz work then maybe you should just forget it and start over.
Oh and BTW Nature themes suck.

That UI 'lag' or 'black screen' is because when you hit contacts your actually launching a new app (although it doesn't look like you have).
Samsung have just created the dialer app with a direct link to the contact app and vice versa but it is still in two separate apk's

I hate the implementation of the smart dial functionality. HTC Sense has vastly superior implementation. The Samsung version looks like they threw something together in a hurry and didn't finish it off. For a start the dialler only shows one result and there's a considerable delay to pop up the full list. Next there's the fact that there's no space key so I can't type say JspaceS to show John Smith and James Sullivan. Lastly there's the bug whereby if you have a title in the person's name, smart dial only finds the contact if you type the first letters of the title and not the name. If I have a Fr Joe Burns I have to type Fr for the name to show, J and B won't work. I wish Samsung could fix this.

I just installed CM10 Nightly on my wife's SII and it's faster to do both than my SIII. I can see the OP's point, really. Just sayin' that there is some room for optimisation there. No question about it.

Samsung really needs to work on its integration. They have good ideas dont get me wrong.. such as swipe to call on the names. But the way to make it all fit together really sucks
